Excellent Compilation.......2007-01-04

Carlos Gardel was the most acclaimed tango singer during the first quarter of 20th century. His voice was so musical, expressive and charming that every recording he made of tango music is considered definitve even nowadays.

This compilation brings some not-so-well-known tangos brought to real life by the master process of nimbus records, this company had performed excellent restorations of early opera singers such as caruso and amelita galli curci among others.

A must for anyone with interest in tango music and especially for gardel aficionados who will find more detailed ambience and subleties from gardel guitarrists. A real jewel.

My girlfriend Jenny introduced me to this album, and to the music of Banda el Recodo in general. The only banda music I ever really paid attention to was songs Chalino Sanchez recorded con band. I am so glad because the music ranges from joyous to romantic and adventurous. This is not all traditional banda, there are influences of big band, cumbia, salsa, and others, yet it is distictly done on banda style. A great cd all the way through with fine vocals, and a fun and danceable feel from beginning to end. One of the finest example of modern banda music can be found from listening to this exellent cd!!!

Carreras in passionate mode.......2001-10-10

Recorded in 1994, this second album of Zarzuela arias features Carreras in good voice. It's not on a par with his first album of Zarzuelas, recorded back in 1977 for Philips, but there is plenty to enjoy here. The duet from El Gato Montes with soprano Isabel Rey has some exciting moments, and Carreras doesn't shrink from the high notes in this demanding piece.

One of the few disappointments on the CD is No Puede Ser, an aria that Carreras has sung magnificently in concert. Here he sounds tired and strained. It's a great shame that Carreras never recorded this aria in his prime.

The entire album abounds with High Bs and B Flats from Carreras, and in many instances Carreras sounds almost like the Jose of yore. He is never less than fully committed to his singing, something that his fellow tenors could learn from him. Not for Carreras is the bland technical approach of Pavarotti, nor the covered, nasal production favoured by Domingo. This is singing to remind listeners that Carreras was - and is - the vocal poet of his generation.

If at all possible, seek out the earlier Zarzuela album. It's a classic. In the meantime, this is an excellent introduction to the passion of Jose Carreras.

Not typical Northern New Mexico Music.......2001-01-23

Their best yet--4 voices, a lot of instruments (brass & percussion) and great arraingements which are not typical of norhtern New Mexico. Mela'o de cana offers a very nice Cuban sound.

I truly have enjoyed my NO HAY OTRO AMOR cd. These talented sisters never seize to amaze me. Their voices are so angelic, and the harmonies they do are truly unique. This is one of my favorite cd's by Sparx, and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves to listen to love songs such as NO HAY OTRO AMOR. This song is a song I have to play at least ten times everytime I get into my car. The emotion in the vocals transcend you into a world where you can truly feel and experience what they are singing.

The four beautiful sisters of sparx have done it again. They have made another hit record. This new c.d. no hay otro amor is full of different music styles. It is a must have if your a sparx fan. I highly reccomend it.

Great New Early Music CD.......2003-04-22

Both the instrumental and vocal music here are very good. This CD contains the first recording of a work by Venetus that I have been able to find. Keep an eye out for Ms. Wilkinson's work. She is young and her voice is not yet fully developed. This means that her voice quality on the next CD will be even better than it is on Fire & Ice. Expect great performances from her. She is a rising star in early music.
