It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This!.......2003-08-21

Venezuelan Jose Luis Rodriguez's voice has aged very well. He still has that tremendous range. Without a shadow of doubt, the most versatile and romantic latin-american crooner of all time.

Here he is paired by the great pianist Raul DiBlasio. A combination that really works. It is quite a thrill to hear those classic songs penned by Manuel Alejandro, sang by Jose Luis and with that great piano sound. Unusually pretty.

An excellent recording. A must buy. Recommended!

He sido un fan de Jose Luis Perales desde hace mucho tiempo, tengo todos sus discos, me sé casi todas sus canciones de memoria (el corazón también tiene memoria), y sostengo, después de muchos años, que es uno de los cantautores más importantes en español. Y sin embargo, en muchas ocasiones me ha tocado defenderlo -y defenderme- ante mis amigos que me acusan de "pastelero sentimental" porque me sigue emocionando la música de Perales como en la adolescencia. Entonces les hablo del disco "En clave de amor".

"En clave de amor" es un disco sostenido, logrado, pulido, hermoso, quizás el más hermoso que Perales haya compuesto. Las canciones son, entre otras cosas, una especie de invitación al amor sutil, a los sueños prohibidos que derivan de la rutina ("La música de salsa"), al recuerdo que se lleva junto al corazón y que se trasluce en una canción ("Cántame"). Perales hace una revisión del amor que va de la volatilidad de unos jóvenes enamorados que acaban suicidándose ("Decidieron volar"), pasando por el amor sereno de gente que se enamora en la tercera edad ("Amor de otoño"), hasta llegar a la que me parece ser la mejor canción de amor de nuestro cantautor: "Supervivientes". En esta última se nos muestra un Perales inspirado, con líneas que se ajustan a una música maravillosamente etérea, elevadas (líneas y música) por la sinceridad y fidelidad del amor a una sola mujer, a la que se ha querido y con la que se ha sido y llegado a ser más. El ideal de la plenitud, el amor logrado y acabado a través de los años, en un espacio donde "no cabe nada más". Perales ha crecido con el paso del tiempo como compositor. Este disco resume cabalmente esta afirmación. Desde que escuché el disco, siento que ya no tengo que defenderme ni defenderlo.

Jose Luis Perales has done it again. His song writing has been overlooked for so many years, nearly thirty! But he once again hits the note on key with this release. But his all time best is 'Como es el?'

I highly recommend this CD by Perales. The songs are hauntingly beautiful and well written. Perales's voice and the rich music are at the same time revitalizing and relaxing. Even my Spanish students enjoyed it -- proof that it will be enjoyed by people of all ages! Of all of my CD's, this is by far my favorite.
