Salsa with passion.......2004-06-16

I never buy a CD unless I listen to all the songs first, because every time I do that I only like one song from the CD. I most say this is a GREAT CD for anyone's collection. I love all the songs and the more I listen to the CD the more I like the songs.
I recommend this CD to any True Salsa lover ;-)

I have to admit I love old salsa songs (I'm 36 from Venezuela and adore Oscar D'Leon, Dimension Latina, Ismael Rivera, Hector Lavoe), but I must recognize that Luis Enrique and Gilberto Santa Rosa mean the best of the second generation of salsa A must for a salsa rhythm lover!

This is not his newest cd, but one of his best if not the best. Mr. Santa Rosa's command of his voice and tempo just makes you appreciate Salsa music. The tracks "Me volvieron hablar de ella" and "Tiene un amigo" hit the sad and romantic sides all at once. The horns rising from far and carrying on just long enough just before his "voz de Caballero" kicks in is.....Priceless. Gilberto has been around for a while and has gained the respect of every latin (and non-latin that have ever heard him), musician in the business. This Puertorican's CD is the one you will play when you are by yourself (have a cocktail and feel the goosebumps) and will always be a coversational piece at every party.

Very nice for high temperatures and glamorous evenings. Que Manera de Quererte got a lot of air time in my local dance scene in the last couple of years-- its probably the high point of a strong album.

Rhytmic, beautifully arranged, melodious and inventive........1998-05-30

As a newcomer to Latin American music, this one took me several listens to truly appreciate, but now it's one of my favorites. Gilberto Santa Rosa's voice is pleasantly raspy,and his phrasing is very deft. There are several different arrangers for the eleven tracks, and each succeed. My particular favorite is "Que Manera de Quererte" written by Emilio Rios and arranged by Pappo Lucca and Georgie Padilla. This is good music either for listening or dancing, as it is rhytmic without being repetitious. The percussion is especially effective on "Bendito Tiempo." This is great music to listen to while cruising down the road towards vacation, and to remind you of it on the way home. And don't worry if you don't speak Spanish--the meaning comes through clearly enough.

NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT.......2005-02-16

Gilberto is an adequate singer, not a musician nor an arranger or composer. The symphonic Salsa idea is just an ego trip. In contrast, symphonic Salsa works by Ruben Blades and/or Willie Colon are worth taking the time. Ruben did Maestra Vida I & II
with Colon producing. Colon did Baquine and Solo with symponic orchestrations that are musically interesting yet show a grasp and knowledge of the genre because they just swing! Get the real deal.

Just the best! This concert is a hit...a real classic in the Salsa history...Gilbertito is the best "ambassador" of Puerto Rico!

Change in style but still no content.......2005-02-13

The gimmick here is Carnegie Hall. Gilberto is a acceptable singer but he has little to do with the music. The ideas and images are passe and tired. His lyrcis are predictably banal. Santarosa is a symptom of the demise of Salsa. A formula that has been implemented to replace to that vibrant, organic NYC street sound. If you want to hear some real symphonic Salsa get Willie Colon's Baquine de los Angeltios Negros or Ruben Blades' Maestra Vida. Save your money one these.

great striaghtfoward salsa.......2003-09-12

If you're looking for a good disc of straight-ahead modern salsa then you couldn't get any better than this one. The songs are intricate and very listenable, and the musicianship is absolutely incredible.

My personal favorite is "Perdoname", which has an awesome percussion solo break halfway through that could almost be in a latin rap song. When I lived in the Dominican Republic the song was a moderate hit and never ceased to pull people out onto the dancefloor.

I strongly recommend this cd. it seems like every year gilberto keeps producing better and better salsa music year in and year out.this is one of his best ever.its great to listen or dance to it,either way whatever you prefer this is one that wont dissapoint fans.

I AM PROBABLY THE BIGGEST AND MOST LOYAL GILBERTITO FAN. BUT THE TRUTH IS THAT UNLESS YOU ARE A DIE HARD FAN, YOU MAY WANT TO SKIP THIS ONE. POR LA HERIDA DE UN AMOR, AND HABLANDO CLARO (SALSA VERSION) ARE ABOUT THE BEST THIS CD HAS TO OFFER. I THINK GILBERTO HAS TO GET OMAR ALFANNO BACK TO WRITING HIM HIS TRADEMARK SONGS AND THAT WILL REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE. DON'T GET ME WRONG HE IS STILL THE MAN, THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER CABALLERO DE LA SALSA. BUT HE NEEDS TO RETHINK HIS CHOSING OF SONGS WHICH WILL CONTINUE MAKING HIM THE BEST.

This CD has very good salsa tracks. However, about half of the CD is "baladas". I wish Gilberto would come up with another "only salsa" CD like his last release "Autentico". In summary, if you are Gilberto's fan, you should get the CD, otherwise it's not worth getting it.

Mas Bajas Que Altas.......2007-02-14

Este es un disco grabado en vivo que Gilberto Santa Rosa hizo con Victor Manuelle en 2001. Aunque ellos tienen un gran catologo de musica entre los dos, su desempeño en esta grabacion en vivo fue un poco mediocre, mayormente por Victor Manuelle. La cancion que grabaron en el estudio, cual lanzaron para promocionar este disco en octubre del 2005, fue bueno, pero no gran cosa, especialmente algo de estos salseros. La voz de Victor Manuelle en algunos temas sonaron mal como He Tratado, Asi Es la Mujer, Tu Volveras, etc., que se le entrecorta la voz y hasta por poco se le safa un par de gallos, por algo lo llaman mas el "Gallo De Isabela" que el "Sonero De La Juventud", ya que la "juventud" se ha inclinado mas hacia otros generos como el reggeaton en esta decada. A Gilberto su peor en este disco fue en la cancion "Vivir Sin Ella", uno esperando que termine su soneo mongo en esta cancion, y el publico no ayudo coreando fuera de tiempo. Pero el disco tuvo tambien sus buenos momentos, pero la peor entre los dos juntos fue la cancion "Controversia", le salio monga, mas monga que lo que dice Calle 13 en la cancion, "Japon".

En el mejor estilo de Gilberto Santa Rosa, una vez más la mujer es la protagonista del ritmo único de este intérprete boricua. Sabroso de principio a fin, pasa de la salsa pachangosa a la más romática balada (también bailable, pero con otros fines). Es un señor cantante que vale la pena escuchar detenidamente, pues no sólo su ritmo cadencioso es signo de su calidad, también el contenido de las letras de Cuco Peña mueven la fibra de cualquier que entienda español.

I played this cd at my Church for Christmas, and everyone wanted to dance Salsa, a great lively msuic with loads of Son Montuno style Salsa. Weather it is or isn't Christmas, this a a year round listening Christmas cd. we should celebrate Chrsts' birth year round anyhows!
