La Llave De Mi Corazon finds tropical music troubadour Juan Luis Guerra returning to the secular sounds that have made him an enduring, endearing performer. His last disc, 2004's Para Ti, was a cautiously received--if still joyous--collection of spiritual tunes. La Llave De Mi Corazon centers on romance and love, themes that better suit Guerra's blend of salsa, merengue and other assorted tropical rhythms. The cutesy title track is featured in English and in Spanish, though it's doubtful Guerra will engage in any serious crossover work anytime soon. Better is "Something Good," a silky, simmering duet with smoky-voiced Chiara Civello. Guerra's own rich, expressive delivery is always a treat. He's emotive without oversinging, particularly during the lilting "A La Vera" and "Solo Tengo Ojos Para Ti." Standout "Si Tu No Bailas Conmigo" is a simple, gorgeous ode to amor that soars on glittering imagery and a gently shuffling beat. "If you don't dance with me, I prefer not to dance," Guerra confesses to a lover. It's an irresistible invitation. --Joey Guerra
Customer Reviews:
El mejor album latino del 2007.......2007-07-18
Quien no recuerda "Bachata Rosa", "Si Tu Te Vas" o "Mi PC"?
Excellent Come Back on Juan Luis Guerra...finally!!!.......2007-07-15
I just love it, the english songs and new jazz rithems are a great complement to the other merengue, salsa and bachata songs.
Well rounded album full of poetry and dancing!
AHORA SI !!!!!!!!.......2007-06-22
!! Un album sin desperdicios.... GRACIAS JUAN LUIS!

Fun Poolside Music.......2007-05-28
This CD was a gem. I ordered it on a whim based on the other rave reviews. I'm so glad I did. We put it on my CD player and mix it with "Steel Drum Party" CD and Bob Marley's "Legend" CD when we're out by the pool. It makes for a great pool mix and puts you in a great, relaxing, Mojito mood :)

One of Wyclef's Greatest works.......2007-05-19
This album is probably one of the best albums I have heard in a long time. It tells some of Haiti's history and gives alot of respect to the rest of Carribean. It reveals Haiti's proud history of Independence.Dieu vous bénit Wyclef. Bonjour le Pacifique du sud. Ceci est un grand cd. Great CD.
Love Wyclef.......2007-04-15
I loved the fugees and love wyclef. His albums always have the carribean flavor. Must have in the collection it is a classic.
Bon Bagay!.......2006-03-20
This is a great CD for anyone who love Caribbean music, especially Konpa Kreyol. Se yon bon bagay ke li ye. Li gen bon mizik ladan.
Love It!!!!!!.......2006-02-23
I love this cd. It's upbeat and fun. I listen to it everyday. I hope he puts out another cd in this same style. My favorite song is President but Fistibal festival is a close second. There's not a song on here that I don't like. I highly recommend this cd.
Great WORLD album.......2005-12-16
This is quite possibly my favorite album ever. It doesn't fit in with Wyclef's past rap and hip-hop albums, but it is an excellent world/carribean cd. I especially like Bicentennial. If you want to have an uplifting album with great flow, buy this one. I believe that Wyclef should continue both with this carribean and his rap as well.

Dance pop-merengue star Elvis Crespo shot to the top of the charts in Billboard with his feverish and horn-fueled mix of nonstop merengue, as best exemplified by the anthem "Suavemente." Even if you don't know Spanish, the tribalistic grooves connect solidly enough that suddenly even merengue dance steps seem instinctive. The tune has been such a smash that label reps released a "Spanglish" version that was included in the movie musical Dance with Me. Also instantly hypnotic is "Tu Sonrisa," another blitzkrieg-paced merengazo propelled by bewitching horns and relentless percussion. These two tunes alone are worth the cost of the CD. Elsewhere, there are more merengues and the occasional romantic bachata--especially noteworthy are "Llorando" and the flamenco guitar-fueled "Te Vas." Another bachata, "Nuestra Cancion," is classic bachata, reminiscent of the great singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra. --Ramiro Burr
Customer Reviews:
Fabuloso.......2006-11-05
Wow! What a talented singer. If you're not familiar with Latin music, Elvis Crespo is a great introduction.
All songs sound the same, but they still make you move.......2004-05-25
Although all of the songs have different titles they all sound pretty much the same. However they are still catchy enough to make you move.
Not for connoisseurs of this genre.......2004-02-26
Basically this merengue is not authentic and definitely not representative of the genre. This kind of merengue will sell because there will always be people who like the top 10 hits in any category of music and of course people who don't know enough about merengue to really judge this music the way it should be. This album lacks in every way and all songs sound the same. Suavemente is the big hit, it gets a crowd going for sure, it's a nightclub favorite but after that I can't say too much. The rest of songs sound like Suavemente so I can't call this an album...may be Suavamente variations. I am not into bashing albums but honestly merengue like this is not representative of the real Macoy. If you bought the album because you like the song, please do continue to enjoy it. However, if you are serious about merengue please sample the classic Dominican groups that still reign in this genre. You may want to try music from Los Toros Band, Rubby Perez, Juan Luis Guerra, Fernando Villalona and Los Hermanos Rosario just to name a few. But really this album is a misrepresentation of this beautiful Dominican rhythm.
Catchy pop/merengue.......2004-01-28
All of the songs are catchy...only problem is they all sound the same. "Suavemente", "Tu Sonrisa", "Luna Llena" and previous work with Grupo Mania all have the same beat and horns. The CD is upbeat and fun to listen to, but come on Elvis, come up with some new material.
Not a good singer, i.m.o........2003-05-24
I can not even comment on the quality of the songs and musicans (some of it sounds pretty good), because, in my opinion, Elvis Crespo has a terrible voice. I find his singing nasal and winey to the point of being almost unlistenable.
I hate to say it, but I just can't get thru this album because I just don't like his voice! Well, to each his own.

Dominican singer, composer, and bandleader Juan Luis Guerra is one of the few true innovators in contemporary Latin music. He created a revolution when he reinvented traditional merengue with smart, poetic lyrics, jazz harmonies, and higher production values. In Bachata Rosa he similarly updated the lowly bachata, the rural, Dominican down-home version of the romantic ballad. Songs such as "Estrellitas y Duendes (Little Stars and Goblins)," "Como Abeja al Panal (Like a Bee to the Beehive)," "Burbujas de Amor (Love Bubbles)," and the title track revisit the old love themes with rare grace and subtle poetic flair. Meanwhile "Rosalia," "Cartas de Amor," and "A Pedir Su Mano" (in which Guerra hints at the connections between Dominican and African music which he pursued in subsequent albums) provide superb dance floor tracks. The result was a commercial and artistic success and with good reason. --Fernando Gonzalez

Super!.......2007-06-30
Never tire of listening to this exciting album--and I've owned it since 1992! Great for dancing or just tapping your feet. Happy music.
Great for people new to salsa/Latin music.......2006-03-24
I have just started to learn to dance salsa and other Latin dances. To improve, it is important to learn about the various types of music and the timing when learning new dances. I have asked many people what groups and CDs I should purchase to expand my knowledge of Latin dance music. Invariably, they recommend Juan Luis Guerra and specifically, Bachata Rosa. This CD is accessible to people who are new to Latin music. In addition, there are various tempos and styles of music on this CD, from salsa to bachata. I highly recommend this CD to novice and experienced Salseros, and anyone who is interested in experiencing Latin music.
Grace.......2006-03-03
I am enjoying this item to the utmost...It is a beautiful cd...I love the singer's style!
Ay, Juan Luis! Que talentoso y bien bonito, tambien!.......2004-10-28
I was introduced to this album several years after its initial release. Juan Luis Guerra y 4.40 has always been one of my favorite bands hailing from the Dominican Republic. The level of sophistication they add to their music is unmistakable. They are one of the more polished, well arranged and catchy bands I have heard. I only wish their music was played in the salsa clubs of Seattle. I guess I have to head to the East coast for that!
This album blends catchy merengue, beautiful bachata (slow, sort of like a cumbia with a "bounce") ballads, and African influence and takes it to a new level. Example of this is prevalent in the title cut, "Bachata Rosa." Also, the beautiful mixture and variation in tempo in a couple of the tracks makes them especially exciting! Whenever I listen to this album, I always see the sun even when its raining outside. I am sure you will think so, too!
Superb!.......2004-10-20
For me the best of JLG albums, even better than "Ojalá que llueva Café" and "Ni es lo mismo ni es igual". Bilirrubina, Rosalía, A pedir su mano are great merengues; Estrellitas y duentes, Reforéstame, Bachata Rosa (especially) showed the world how sweet, delicate and sensual bachata rythm is.

Singer/songwriter Marc Anthony gets back to the basics here, rewarding his main fanbase by recording salsa versions of the Spanish-language pop ballads on his Amar sin Mentiras CD. Beyond "Lamento Borincano," the old folk-salsa standard by the legendary Puerto Rican songwriter Rafael Hernandez, there isn't anything new. The other seven tracks are simply horn-fueled and percussion heavy retakes. But even those who already have Amar can find new juice here. Valio La Pena vibrates with new sonic urgency as Anthony describes the risks sometimes necessary in finding romantic happiness. The pop version of "Ahora Quien" was dramatic and anthemic. Here, it's speeded up and filled out with melodic pianos and horns. Even "Escapemonos," the tepid duet with actress/singer Jennifer Lopez, gets a recharge in the salsa version thanks to percolating percussions. Anthony's strength is his strong, plaintive vocals. On ballads he's ok, but it's in fiery salsa tunes where the music and the vocals really complement each other. Did we really need two Anthony CDs? Probably not, but his hardcore salsa fans will appreciate the extra effort. --Ramiro Burr
Customer Reviews:
Love it.......2007-03-28
One of the reasons I'm such a big fan of Marc Anthony is that he's able to sing with such feeling. With this CD he does it again. Valio la Pena is the kind of album you either want to dance to or sing. Or both. Marc and his band put their all into this album and the end result is a fantastic CD from el rey de salsa. Enjoy.
Valio la pena to buy this cd.lol.......2007-02-25
This is a great cd from marc anthony.I love the song "se esfuma tu amor".I have all of marc anthony songs in my ipod.He is the best.
HE'S BACK!.......2006-11-21
After acouple of questionables albums Marc Anthony the best modern day salsero is back and i cant be any happier as i live and die by this mans golden voice and unlike victor manuelle he can get away with this salsa/bolero style of salsa.Tu amor me haces bien being the best song of the album and the rest is just as good i gave it 4 stars b/c at the start of the album it was a smooth start but it got choppy by the end, the landing was rough but it was good enough to give it four stars.
Just off 5 stars.......2006-07-31
Marc Anthony is excellent as always. The only reason I didn't give this five stars is that I was disappointed to find out that the album contains "salsa" versions of the songs played on the radio such as Ahora Quien. The version I heard on the radio is more of a ballad style as is Tu Amor me Hace Bien. Since I prefer the slower versions there was a bit of a disappointment for me since I still have to buy the slower versions. Other than that I love the album.
Not as good as his 3 previous salsa albums.......2006-05-19
*** stars - can't change the above!
Valio is a rearrangement of some of the songs of Amar sin Mentiras. And it definitely has the feeling of an afterthought.
While it is a pretty decent salsa album (albeit brief), it is simply not in the class of his other three salsa CD's, Todo a su Tiempo, Contra la Corriente, and especially, Libre. The arrangements are standard competent rather than thorougly innovative and unique as were the older ones.

Singer/songwriter Juan Luis Guerra applies his tropical big band magic on Christian-themed tunes on this CD but the result is the same--infectious rhythms that induce dance fever. Guerra's strength has always been his seamless blend of the spicy salsa and carnivalesque merengue rhythms and layering the music with elaborate vocal and horn arrangements to produce irresistible melodies. Guerra penned all 12 songs here; thay all deal thematically with God and devotion. Highlights include "Eres," which blends blues sentiment and gospel fever. Crisp piano and powerful horns drive the title track and "Las Avispas," a tune about walking with renewed confidence. Acoustic guitars introduce "Tan Solo he Venido," a mellow song about willing to give it all up for the Lord. As a singer, Guerra in top shape, his vocals conveying the variety of emotions from pain and longing to hope and celebration. As a bandleader Guerra hasn't lost his edge. He is a musical genius who knows how to fuse complex arrangements with tuneful hooks. --Ramiro Burr

Happy with purchase.......2007-01-21
One of the best spanish christian album thats come out in a long time.
amen!.......2007-01-11
this album has so many GOD-blessed music on it. i do not speak spanish (i never even took it in high school!), but i can tell that these are songs that honor the Trinity, and along with that gives a fabulous salsa beat. two thumbs up!
Merengue Music for Christians!.......2006-11-04
Juan Luis Guerra crea nuevamente canciones apasionantes, esta vez demostrando su "vida nueva". El ritmo sin embargo es el mismo "sabroso pa' bailar" de siempre.
Dismaying, to say the least.......2006-09-01
I learned of Juan Luis Guerra just a few years ago, and was totally enchanted by his originality and style.
My own personal viewpoint is how dreary it is that a man of such immense talent and originality has to sink himself into this genre. Spirituality and God were apparent in all of his old work, in every word and every phrase, and in a way that was meaningful to people of any faith or of no organized faith.
Now for reasons unknown to me, he has latched into fundamentalist religion and has put out a CD of religious dogma and superstition. It is not surprising that it would be difficult to write quality music in such a genre, as the generally dreary nature of such music illustrates.
Para Ti, is of course, much better than most Christian music. With this kind of talent, it would almost have to be. Trying to listen to just the music, and not the message, (and frankly, I have never cared much for "message" music of any type) Para Ti has its moments and there are a couple songs I like in spite of myself. I am just glad my Spanish is not fluent.
But anyone who has followed Juan Luis's career and thinks this album is in the same class musically is merely in rapture to the religious overtones, and does not even begin to understand the musical merits of his previous work.
I am sure Juan Luis could care less about my reaction and others who agree with me. That is certainly his perogative, he is what he is and its his music, not mine. Nevertheless, as a person who admired him tremendously, I am sorry to say my estimation has sunk considerably. I will not, however, let this affect my enjoyment of the old Juan Luis - "Bubbles of Love" anyone? Now THAT is God.

The best collection.......2007-01-10
This is really a collection of the best of Juan Luis Guerra not like some others that claim to be and have some songs nobody has heard of.
a GREAT compilation of hits from Juan Luis Guerra y 4.40!.......2005-10-12
For those of you unfamiliar with Juan Luis Guerra's music, this is a great opportunity for you to hear this wonderful man! He is considered one of the most beloved singers/songwriters/poets of the Dominican Republic. We are so lucky that he put his poems to song. Not only is he the king of el merengue (a popular dance music from the Dominican Republic). but he also showcases his abilities as a singer and musician in bachata (a slower, more sensual dance music), and ballads. He fuses traditional Afro/Latin rhythms with jazz and pop. Some great examples of this sound include "Frio Frio" (ballad), "Como Abeja Al Panal" (a combination of salsa/bachata/ballad), and "Rosalia" (just a great, energetic song!).
Please listen to this music. He is a legend, and is still very popular today, as a contemporary singer of merengue (with a large Christian flavor to his lyrics). Totally worth it! You will not be disappointed.

Best 'Clean' Merengue Around.......2006-05-08
I'm also of Dominican descent and love love love Merengue. But, some of the music out there is really perverted and not to be heard by young ears. My daughters (ages 2 & 3) absolutely LOVE Juan Luis Guerra and I encourage them to listen to his music because I know that the songs he sings are sweet, romantic and respectful to women. This album has my vote!
Music, Feelings & Rythm !.......2005-09-26
This was the first merengue album I bought, and since then I can't get enough of it! Juan Luis is definitely a GREAT artist. Just listen to it, and I am sure you will understand what I mean...! A Great album for people who want to know more about merengue and about the Dominican culture!
Grandes Exitos.......2005-09-11
This is by far one of my favorite CD's ever!! I had a copy of this CD already but my toddler son scratched it and I was heartbroken. It is a must for replacement. This CD has a great mix of slow and fast songs (bachata, merengue, salsa and dare I even say one particular song that's part samba). Juan Luis Guerra has such a haunting voice when it comes to the ballads and the fast-paced songs are so danceable.
Very very good.......2005-02-03
I can only echo the sentiments expressed in other reviews. Juan Luis Guerra has a unique sound and is one of the few artists who can claim to sounding really different and original. The merengues have a folksy yet thoroughly modern quality that is very beguiling. Perhaps even more impressive are the gorgeous ballads. "Bachata Rosa", in particular, is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. I find it impossible to listen to without a few tears coming down my face, especially with the associations I have with it.
The only reason for not buying this CD.......2004-04-24
is having all previous CDs from JLG & 440. Being a huge fan of this music I have all albums released so far so I burned 2 CDs, one w/ merengue the other one w/ bachata + salsa.
