We heard this CD in our local Dominican restaurant and noticed the entire staff was singing along. And soon, we were too. An instant mood lifter and party maker. We love it. Terrific rhythms, great instrumentation, charismatic vocals. Try it!

Worth It for Huapango Alone!.......2006-11-22

After serendipitously hearing Huapango on Sirius, I just had to have it! This CD presents an interesting mix of composers -- some more significant than others -- and other reviewers have addressed the strength of some of these pieces over others. But the joyful ebullience of Huapango is something I find myself turning to time and time again. The last cut on the disc, Huapango alone is worth the effort it took to find it. I would have bought this CD if Huapango had been the only piece on it!

Dorian after Mata.......2000-06-26

Eduardo Mata began this collection with a very serious attitude. Unfortunately, it has not been understood by the Dorian staff. This selection has the spirit of its title, and it makes no sense to offer "Latin American Lollipops" when there has not been a meal before. The CD market is hungry of non-mainstream information, and Latin America is almost totally absent. Here, Maximiano Valdés makes a good job, even if he has not the extraordinary level of Mata when he recorded "Sensemayá" for Dorian. The selection is useful with the light pieces by minor composers like Camargo-Guarnieri, Carreño, Plaza and Moncayo (his nationalistic post-card "Huapango") or with the minor piece by the better Ginastera (whose discography is so scarce), and necessary with the marvelous and so short "El renacuajo paseador" by the great Silvestre Revueltas, the major composer from the Americas, the deepest, the most serious of all.

Another Winner.......2004-01-21

If there's any validity to the adage that time improves all good things, Juan Gabriel's most recent release, Inocente De Ti, proves it true. The CD arrived in Mexico in January 2004 as Gabriel celebrated his 54th birthday. Time has been good to the Mexican icon, and the quality and variety he offers his fans in this CD illustrate it.
The first couple tracks, including the title track, run a little slow-great Gabriel for when you're in that laid back mood. If you're feeling a little friskier, however, hold on for songs like "Amor Profundo" which is quite unlike what we've heard from Gabriel in the past. Call it big band, call it swing-call it the genius of Gabriel once again treading beyond the confines of the traditional. "Amándote" is another upbeat number as is "Como Te Quiero" whose backup vocals are synthesized. If you yearn for the sounds of Mexico, check out "Idilio."
The most delightfully painful rendition on this CD comes in the form of "Loco Enamorado." Backed up by subdued Mariachi, Gabriel shows that he has not lost his touch in making songs to cry by. "El Fin" is another tune to accompany tears in the tequila. He provides his own vocals in harmony, a feature that is becoming more and more popular with this delightful pop singer.
Even the best can't be perfect and Gabriel has been known to have a few off days-days when his voice reflects the strain of 30-plus years in the music business. There's no off day on this CD. The entire production is top-notch. His renditions are honey-smooth and he demonstrates all of the elements that have made him famous, including the little hiccup in his voice at just the right places.
Gabriel's charismatic showmanship doesn't come across as it does in his finest works, the two live CDs and videos at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, but for a studio production, Inocente De Ti is as good as it gets.
Gabriel is the author of all of the numbers and the lyrics are provided on the insert. The insert also includes a statement of an unsettling nature. He writes (translated from Spanish), "I want to show my appreciation to BMG for their support during all of these years in this, my second to the last project, with them. Juan Gabriel." What could this mean?

El señor Gabriel ha demostrado su gran abilidad para escribir canciones, música y diversas secuencias en esta obra reciente. Inocente de tí es un disco con una variedad de emociones y activamente aviva y emociona al enamorado. Durante una trayectora artística muy larga Don Juan demuestra su arduo trabajo, sus lágrimas, su amor, su cariño, su madurerez, su sus deseos, su integridad y su bondad que ha tenido y compartido con su público desde los 1970's y como dice él, "...y aqui estoy." Gracias don Juan por tanto amor y tanto cariño. Vayan todos a comprar este disco y recuerden, "Dí no a la piratería."

Lo Nuevo de Juan Gabriel.......2003-10-23

Lo mas reciente de Juan Gabriel ha sido una grata sorpresa. Los temas son un poco despacios, y da la sensacion de los comienzos de Juan Gabriel. Inocente de Ti muestra la capacidad de JG a lo maximo. Varios temas tiene un parecido con canciones previamente escritas y suenan muy bonito. Sin embargo Juan Gabriel es Juan Gabriel. Y para mi este disco es unos de los mejores desde el disco con Banda El Recodo. Adquieralo Ya, no se va arrepentir!

This Guys have a very singular way to make music, their combinations in some songs like "maldita" is incredibly cool!!
Estos muchachos y su manera muy peculiar de hacer musica los hace bastante originales, entre sus canciones "Maldita" y "Oscuridad" los saca un poquito de su genero, pero sin duda alguna les da un grado de mucha originalidad. Rock Guanaco (Salvadoreño) muy recomendado.
