Editorial Reviews
Finally the CD closes with the hottest song on the album--"Little Buddha" [3:55], a fiery jazz guitar driven cut. Stefan and Curt Warren really cook. This is an amazing song. I loved it. So ends a great CD. Fourteen songs which offer a variety of world music. A strong Spanish sense is felt throughout. Here there is a fine melding of classical Spanish styles of music with jazz, samba, rock, Latin, and other influences. These are great tunes...Stefan is unique musician that mixes class with exotic music. He is a master of the acoustic guitar and he is cleverly supported by a group of fine musicians. Highly recommended!
Product Description
Spanish Soul is a complete guitar oriented album. It uses live percussion and hip hop style drum loops to create a new effect in acoustic Spanish guitar music. The musical styles on this album are as varied as the musicians featured. Spanish Soul has a definite Spanish flavor, but it also includes jazz stylings such as Sweet Samba & Anniversary Song, Middle Eastern melodies such as Aya Sofia & Mediterranean Nights and Rhythm and Blues tunes such as Little Buddha. In addition there are quite a few tunes that will fit the in between categories. The 1st Track Malaguea is a fresh new dance version of the original Spanish Malaguea. The Title Track Spanish Soul is a romantic Ballad with the warm sounds of the Flugel Horn. El Camino Real combines the Rumba Flamenca rhythms with a Samba rhythm track while Serenade is a pure Guitar Jazz ballad that features a duet of the Spanish nylon string guitar and the warm sounds of a Gibson ES-175. The remix of Today & Tomorrow now starts as a Blues Ballad that develops into a Spanish/Jazz style. Then there are songs such as Shiraz, that would fall more into the "raw energy" middle eastern sounds category, while East of Spain features the mystic sounds of an English Horn. Last but not least there is the mellow Guitar Ballad Days Gone By and the hip hop/Spanish style composition Song for Nima that defies any category.
Spanish Soul
Spanish Soul,Stefan,Innovative Strings,His 2nd and best selling CD after his 4 year partnership with Telarc International and La Vienta. combining Latin, Jazz, Flamenco and Middle Eastern sounds. On the top ten Latin Jazz Chart for over a year on mp3.com.

Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08
The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!
I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.
The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

LIKE CHAMPAGNE.......2003-12-10
opening up with Don't play that song and follows through with a
string of his first singles and their b sides. It's amazing to think that Stand by me, was backed with First taste of love (I have the original 45) What fantastic value for money! The CD winds up with Brace yourself, which is very fitting as you will be....for another listen.
Finally I would like to say that these are the originals, not some re-recorded effort from the 70's or 80's. Enjoy!

FOUR STARS, BUT THE LAST 13 SONGS ARE 5 STAR ALL THE WAY!.......2002-11-06
THE FIRST 11 TRACKS DO NOT APPEAL TO ME AT ALL, I CONSIDER THEM DUDS, HOWEVER, OTHER PEOPLE MAY FIND THEM APPEALING. I FEEL AS THOUGH THE RECORD COMPANY WAS TRYING TO CAPITALIZE ON THE TITLE SONG BY PRODUCING AN ENTIRE ALBUM WITH A SPANISH THEME AND SOMEHOW IT JUST DOESN'T WORK. SO IN MY CASE I FORWARD THE CD TO THE TWELVTH TRACK WHICH IS "SPANISH HARLEM" AND FROM THERE ITS SHEER MUSIC TO MY EARS.
I HAVE SEVERAL BEN E KING CD'S AND MANY OF THE SONGS THAT ARE ON THIS CD ARE NOT ON THE OTHERS. THE SECOND ALBUM "DON'T PLAY THAT SONG", TRULY MAKES UP FOR WHERE THE FIRST ALBUM FELL SHORT. IT JUST HELD ME CAPTIVE BY THE SOUND OF BEN E KING'S VOICE, THE LYRICS TO THE SONGS AND THE ORCHESTRATION OF THEM.
THESE ARE SONGS OF MY YOUTH MANY OF WHICH I HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT UNTIL I LISTENED TO THIS CD. TRACKS 12 - 24 ON THIS CD ARE IN MY OPINION SOLID GOLD. MY PERSONAL FAVORITES ARE "HERMIT ON MISTY MOUNTAIN", "I PROMISE LOVE", "SHOW ME THE WAY" AND "YES".
RECOMMENDATION: BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT! I DON'T THINK YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED. I HAVE NOTHING TO GAIN BY PROMOTING THIS CD, BUT YOU HAVE MUCH TO LOSE BY NOT HAVING AS A PART OF YOUR COLLECTION.

Not entirely perfect, but still a great piece of 80s nostalgia.......2007-03-17
Good & catchy.......2003-12-28
CONSISTENT FOLLOW-UP.......2003-09-21
It combines freestyle "A fool is born everyday", 60's girl group vibe ("Lost in emotion", a #1 hit), r&b ("Everything will b-fine", another top 10 r&b hit) and funky-pop ("Head to toe", another #1 smash). Of course a simmering duet with FULL FORCE is on board ("Someone to love me for me", top 10 r&b again!). This duet is really nice with it's gospel overtones about loving someone for the content of their character instead of material things. FULL FORCE AND LISA LISA work well together and the production is tight throughout this cd as well.
CULT JAM member SPANADOR shares a lead with LISA LISA on the grinding "I Promise you". It is a wonder why he didnt sing lead more. The song is really catchy. Another good song is "A face in the crowd". A jamming snare drum rocks the beat on this one and the song has a catchy hook.
Though not much different from the debut, this one had more commercial appeal and catered to a more pop audience. The freestyle was sacraficed for a more pop following. Not that it is bad, considering the great song writing and LISA LISA's mature vocals. She wasnt even 20 years old yet! A great pickup for any fan of 80's r&b!
A '80s DANCE CLASSIC.......2002-09-06
"Spanish Fly" is by far a late '80s dance pop classic that established Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam( Spanador and Mike Hughes) as HUGE stars. Although they would release two more albums that flopped commerically, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam AND Full Force are currently back in the studio...time will tell what we're in for but rest assure "Spanish Fly" will forever keep feets moving and the late '80s alive! :-)

Product Description
What a difference 35 years makes. Contrast these lyrics with, oh, any gangsta rap record of the last decade and a half: Black pearl/ Pretty little girl/Let me put you up where you belong Black pearl/ Precious little girl/You've been in the background much too long. It was a kinder, gentler time, kids. Checkmates, Ltd. were "discovered" by jazz diva Nancy Wilson, and for their A&M debut engaged the services of producer Phil Spector, who was best known (until recently, anyway) for early hits with the Ronettes, Crystals and others, and for his work on the Beatles' Let It Be. His patented Wall of Sound and back-to-mono ethic served the Checkmates, Ltd. well on their only smash hit, Black Pearl. But dont stop there. They took Creedence Clearwater Revivals Proud Mary and souled it up, not quite in the Ike and Tina mold, but very credibly. And theres a gorgeous version of Spanish Harlem, which Spector had co-written with legendary tunesmith Jerry Leiber. Rounding out the disc is a real nugget from the time capsule as Sonny Charles & Co. take on a medley from Hair; takes you right back to 1969. Select Direct Releases feature original LP artwork reconfigured to an oversized heavy board minijacket wrapped with an iridescent stock, includes a translucent sleeve to protect the CD. Each jacket is gold foil stamped with a limited edition sequential number.Customer Reviews:

Album Description
Last but not least there is the mellow Guitar Ballad Days Gone By and the hip hop/Spanish style composition Song for Nima that defies any category.Customer Reviews:
