Not Like the First One - But Still Very Cool.......2006-09-29

While Volume 1 of the DREAM BABES series is more accessible with its very girly girl group pop, sun-shiney vocals - Volume 2 offers a little bit of everything - from pop r&b, girl group vocals, pop, swinging pop & even some very early school grrl rock 'n roll - they might be a little more lyrically serious (hence the subtitle REFLECTIONS) but if anything, that's a good thing. It's nice to hear that women were trying different styles and genres and not just singing about about boys ...

And also know - these are not just timepieces to be admired from a distant - these are all still fun, interesting and downright cool to hear again or for the first time.

If you're a collector, this whole series should be on your checklist.

A decent mishmash in the Dream Babes series.......2004-05-01

Not my favorite of the "Dream Babes" series after first buying Volume 1 and being delighted by all of the novelty sounds; but there are some good, notable works on this one. The sound of the collection is much more of a "late sixties/early seventies" feel when music got a little less light and took on more seriousness of tone ("Don't Leave Me", "And Now I Cry", "I did Nothing Wrong"). The one tune on it, "People Will Talk" by the Three Quarters struck me as an oddity among more "grown-up" tunes only because of its fun and intoxicating, almost Calypso beat! It honestly took me about two weeks listening to it to finally realize the girls' "Shoo-wop" jargon is "She-ray la-ray la-ray"! Definitely a song that sticks in your head all day! What I also benefited from purchasing this was the "accidental" personal discovery of the AMAZINGLY talented Helen Shapiro ("He Knows How To Love Me"). It made me go on to seek out more of her work which I truly love. I had actually never heard of her before (only getting the "Americanized" versions of standard, biased "oldies") and neither had any of my other collector colleagues! It just goes to show what expanding your horizons a little can turn up sometimes!

This one's really good!.......2003-12-28

I picked this one up by chance, hoping it might be decent, but what I found was one of the best live folk albums I've ever heard. There isn't a bad song here, nor a bad performance, and the sound quality is great. The "bonus track" isn't anything to brag about, just the crowd chanting, but who cares? I can listen to this CD over and over without tiring of it. I highly recommend it for folk lovers.

Reflections 1: Early Delerium Compilation.......2005-02-19

This is the first of two parts. This CD is a collection of songs from 1988-1995. Delerium is the brain child of two people, Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber, they excelled themselves in the early Days before they turned Delerium down onto a new direction. The songs in the 1st volume come from the following albums; Stone Tower (Cleopatra), Morpheus and Syrophenikan (Cleopatra). This album is best suited for someone who is just starting out on Delerium and wants to soak in the essence of this delightful music.

Good compilation of their early music style.......2000-04-13

This CD is a compilation of Delerium's earlier CDs with a few new tracks thrown in. In most respects I like it better then the individual CDs they came from. It is essentially a 'best of' the early Delerium. If you like Delerium's Karma CD, you may not like this one since it is mostly ambient, darker, and more gothic. If you like the group Dead Can Dance, this is closer to that style then Karma is. If a Delerium fan, then the few extra songs are well worth the purchase.

Dark, longing...nostalgia.......2000-03-21

I admit this isn't a CD for everyone, but I enjoyed it very much. It brings me back to my Goth days in the 80's and early 90's. The music is richly layered and dark, dark, dark! There are too few artists making this kind of music today. I like the darker themed music that's being produced now, but the subtle, trance-like music in this album is what I really enjoy...and have missed. For those you have similar tastes, this is a CD that belongs in your collection.

Absolutely Perfect.......2000-02-15

If you're big into their early good stuff, this is the perfect album to get. A great way to get some rare songs. I love this album for DJing.

Symphonic jazz classics from Paul Whiteman.......2001-04-16

This outstanding CD features Paul Whiteman and his Concert Orchestra from 1927 and 1928 performing a number of mostly light, often jazz-influenced orchestral titles, including George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" (in its original, or near-original Ferde Grofe arrangement) and a version of "Concerto in F" rescored by Grofe. Other titles include Domenico Savino's Gershwinesque "A Study in Blue," a skillfully-written condensed concerto that anticipates any number of 1940s film scores; Matty Malneck's lightweight but memorable mood pieces "Midnight Reflections" and "Caprice Futuristic;" songwriter Rube Bloom's famous "Soliloquy," a gentle parody of early-20s pop music; and a marvelous Grofe orchestration of "Sea Burial," a Debussyesque miniature by Eastwood Lane, an American composer much admired by jazz great Bix Beiderbecke. The restored sound is remarkably free of surface/background noise, which results in very detailed, if slightly muffled, sound. While I personally prefer more natural-sounding reissues, it must be said that these sides have been very carefully and lovingly restored. Peter Dempsey's liner notes are detailed and informative, as are the track listings in the booklet. A typically high-class production from Naxos, the budget label that delights and amazes.

Second part of an early Delerium Compilation.......2000-04-13

I suggest checking out the reviews for Reflections Vol 1, but basically this is a compilation of Delerium's earlier works. I highly recommend getting both albums at the same time. They go very well together. As I said in the other review, If you like their Karma CD it does not necessarily follow you will like this one. This is Darker and more ambient then Karma. the best comparison is the group Dead Can Dance, although personally, I like Delerium better.
