On this early album by the Argentine band Fabulosos Cadillacs, the group plays a zany blend of ska, punk, folk, alternative, and ranchera, and some worldbeat rhythms. It takes a while, but after a few listens, the sound is easily palatable. "Tus Tontas Trampas" recalls the maniacal but tuneful routines of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones or even the Voodoo Glow Skulls. Another obvious influence is the '80s ska-punk-rock band Madness. The Cadillacs can jam out with the best of them on such energizers as "En Mis Venas" and "Yo Quiero Morirme Aca." But the boys can also swing smoothly on such moody ballads as "Galapagos." Lead singer Gabriel "Vicentico" Fernandez Capello does a cool job of holding the center, no matter how wild or rhythmicentric the outfit gets. --Ramiro Burr

Cool Debut.......1998-12-15

Los Fabulosos' first album is strictly ska, but tuneful and memorable. Instrumental brass interludes show an affinity for Madness, haunting vocals are carried out stylishy by Gabriel "Vicentico" Fernandez Capello. Higlights include "Silencio Hospital", "Tus Tontas Trampas" ( an excellent cover for the Road Runner theme ), and the sinister "En Mis Venas"
