5 out of 5 stars great CD.......2006-02-08

My kids love to listen to this CD, and I love it because the songs are well known spanish songs that I grew up with! We all enjoy to sing along. Well done!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Way to Teach and Learn Spanish by Singing!.......2005-10-25

I highly recommend Jose-Luis Orozco's songs and books. They are an excellent and fun way to teach and learn Spanish by singing. I bought them for my children and it has helped them learn the Spanish language. Music is an excellent way to learn the language. The songs and music are very entertaining!

5 out of 5 stars My Little Niece Loves It!.......2005-09-11

I love this CD. I've actually loved Jose Luis-Orozco ever since I was in college taking my teaching courses. He was commonly used to aid in our teaching lessons. The songs are very lyrical and are very catchy to dance to.

I bought it mainly for my little niece who is multi-racial and I thought it would be nice for her to connect to her Centro-American side. A lot of these songs have been shared or are known by my parents and grandparents. They grew up with these songs and I thought it would be nice for my niece to group up listening to them too.

This CD and many other Jose Luis-Orozco are currently used at a college summer program for adolescents between 1st grade-4th grade in Northridge. The students don't speak Spanish but when his songs are played they begin to sing them and learn a little Spanish along the way. The best song on this CD is "Buenos Dias" or (Good Morning) in English. The next best song is "Los Pollitos" or (the chicks). There's also a version of Old Mcdonald Had a Farm which, is called "La Granja."

My little niece enjoys this CD very much and she dances to it. We all gather around her and sing the lyrics and she couldn't be happier. I recommend this CD as well as any other Jose Luis-Orozco CD's because his background music is soft toned with only a guitar to guide the music. I love that! We had bought her another CD which, was livened up with ridiculous mambo background music, too overwhelming! Jose Luis-Orozco is the way to go.

4 out of 5 stars Really nice collection of songs.......2005-07-04

We are trying to raise our daughter bilingual and really like to use music as a fun way to use both languages. This disc has really nice songs that even a young child will like to sing. The arrangements are nice enough that it won't drive an adult crazy to listen to it!

5 out of 5 stars excellent way to learn Spanish.......2004-12-31

This CD is fun and a great way to learn Spanish. My daughter sings the songs all the time. I love them, too.

Eclectic electronic album with an authentic latin flavor. A must have item. Highly recomended if u can get one.

5 out of 5 stars Transition between Soda and Solo. Excellent!.......2005-10-11

First of all Melero is where Cerati first got interested in what now is his signature electronic / rock sound. This is a great album. There are some repeats of different versions, but a must have. * Marea De Venus rattles of Argentine girls' names and what really goes on at night, ** Quatro is a "techno "if you will song. Primitive due to the time period, but you could work out to it, and *** La Cuerda Planetaria has Melero singing. A must have if you are a true Cerati / Soda fan. Great guitar work and Cerati's voice is clear & strong. Think Amor Amarillo with beats & loops. The great thing about Cerati is he can work with different artists / genres and it's always a classic. Fans of Pedro Almodovar's exuberant filmmaking will recognize Rosario from her role in the director's Talk to Her. But in her native Spain, Rosario is better known for her massively popular pop records than for her acting chops. The follow-up to Muchas Flores--the singer's 2001 blockbuster--De Mil Colores underscores the most precious asset in Rosario's music: a deliciously raspy voice that seduces you instantly with its rambunctious personality. A versatile performer, Rosario tackles with equal command a sassy rock number ("Vueltas"), a hilarious flamenco fest ("Los Tangos de mi Abuela"), and a quintessentially Spanish reading of Arsenio Rodriguez's Cuban bolero "La Vida Es Un Sueno." Lovers of quality pop music will appreciate the tasty touches of acoustic guitar, the ever present handclapping, the restrained brass section. This is the kind of album that is mellow enough to serve as background music--yet packed with enough punch to make you sit up and pay attention to its most inspired passages. --Ernesto Lechner

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Excellent Excellent!!!.......2004-07-15

Rosario does it again, with this brand new CD called "De Mil Colores"...Not only can we enjoy her outstanding and beautiful voice, we can also listen to songs and rhythms which I predict are soon to become instant hits.

Her talent and her devotion to her flamenco music is obvious, capturing the attention of anyone who listens to the record...You don't have to be Spanish and know how to dance flamenco, trust me: with this album you'll be on your feet before you know it, drawn by the wonderful tunes!

This is by far, one of the greatest and most talented singers and performers to come out of Spain, if this is your first chance in listening to Rosario, I strongly suggest you buy this record, and get to know this terrific singer!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!.......2004-02-13

I wholeheartedly concur with the previous review. Just what you would expect from Rosario. This CD is quite similar to "Muchas Flores", nevertheless just as brilliantly done. I can't stop playing it! You will not regret the purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Olé, Olé!!!.......2004-02-11

After her Multi-platinum, Grammy award winner album "Muchas flores". Rosario returns to the top with this very good album.
"De mil colores" ("Of 1000 colors") follows the same direction of "Muchas flores" with her very known fusion of styles such as flamenco, pop and rock. The songs in this album are very good, the lyrics can be touchy, happy and even funny as track #10 "Los tangos de mi abuela" (My grandma's tangos), which is my favorite song here it has lots of energy that makes you feel like dancing and the lyrics...the lyrics are great with lines such as: "Mi abuelita tenia una olla, la metia debajo la cama y en la olla no se lo que hacia que la convertia en bola infernal" ("My grandmother had a pot, she use to put it under the bed and I don't know what she did with it that became like a ball of fire") this might sound stupid but when you hear the song, sounds very good.
There are also love songs such as: "Viviras" ("You'll live"), "De mil colores" ("Of 1000 colors"), "Como tu" ("Like you"), "Atado a esa mujer" ("Tighted up to that woman") with Antonio Carmona (main singer of "Ketama"). The funky ones are: "Vueltas" ("Spins"), "En mi casa" ("At my place"), "Aguanta ahi" ("Hold it there") and "La vida es un sueño" ("Life's a dream").
This album was released in november 2003 in Spain and became an instant hit, debuting at #1 and selling hundred thousands records on it's release week.
I strongly recommend this album. You may also like very much her previous work "Muchas flores".

Album Description

San Diego's instrumental post-rock quintet came together after playing in such seminal San Diego bands as The Locust, Crimson Curse, Swing Kids, and Gogogo Airheart among others. This is their third full-length since the release of their critically acclaimed debut "Spine & Sensory" in 2000. It has layers and textures akin to Boards Of Canada and Amon Tobin. Melodic and inventive, emotive and inspirational, the music sings so eloquently throughout, it is nothing less then revelatory. There's great hope and optimism present here; a sanguine feeling that permeates the whole album. A colorful journey beyond instrumental post-rock, delving into the darker realms of modern psychedelia.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A fresh sound that is both tranquil and uplifting.......2006-03-10

Tristeza takes full advantage of the instrumental format to bring you songs such as Liquid Pyramid, which deliver a full sound that can pull the stress and angst right out of you. I am a graduate student that needs uninterrupted reading time, and my trusty mp3 player helps with that. The absence of vocals coupled with a smooth sound make this album ideal for this application. The other strong point of this album is that it is one that you could put in your player, hit play, and listen to it in its entirety.

5 out of 5 stars Anything but melancholy.......2005-12-19

Although Tristeza translates to "melancholy" in english, I felt nothing but happiness and fortune being able to see them live at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood just a couple weeks ago, right after the release of "A Colores".

I'm a newbier fan, and Tristeza have instantly become favorites. I really can't describe how their music makes me feel, except just transported. That's how their melodies made me feel live at their show, and just driving or sitting or working and listening to them.

Flawless. Highly, highly recommended if you are more "old school" and like Pat Metheny or a little new school and like "Explosions in the Sky". To wrap this up, these songs sound like their CD looks: a musical work of art.

5 out of 5 stars A Colores~A Treasure.......2005-12-02

Transfixing and ever-changing is this album's theme. Dark, meloncholly, psychadelic post rock with an amazing keyboard sound. (Gotta love that Rhodes). I saw these guys recently in Orlando and I have to say it's been a long time since I've gone to see a band that is so in tune and in sink with one another. These guys truly love what they do. The new stuff is full of changes, and more importantly, on point. The drummer has definately progressed over time and the music has become more enhanced with almost a dark jazz fusion feel to it. I was and still am impressed with what this band has brought forth. I have been a fan for some time now, but this album indeed shows just how much Tristeza has grown over time. If they ever come to your town, I highly recommend checking them out. It's definately an ear pleasing experience.

5 out of 5 stars Easily one of the best instrumental albums of 2005.......2005-11-26

I had been waiting for this cd to come out ever since I heard two tracks that were put up weeks before the release date. I've been a fan of Tristeza for a while but it wasn't until I picked up this album that I appreciated them the way I do now. The release date of this cd was right around the same time they played in my home town. I watched their live show before getting the cd and most of the songs in the set were from the new album. I was captivated the whole time in a way I've never been at a show before. These new songs possess a certain energy and feeling Tristeza has never showed us before, whether this is due to the addition of two new members since their last release is hard to tell. They've kept the same drummer but his playing has never sounded so good, it seems as if everything he's recorded on this cd is perfect. The addition of a new keyboardist definitely contributed to the change in sound, and definitely for the better. Now their sound is darker than ever before, but it seems like this transition was necessary. Their older stuff was plagued with reviews of it being too repetitive or boring, as if it wasn't going anywhere. On A Colores, it's the opposite. The music is now so ambitious and full of mystery. It keeps a somewhat consistant feel but none of the songs sound the same. To put it simply, this album is a must have for anyone interested in good music.

2 out of 5 stars Good for Spanish Speakers.......2001-01-26

I was looking for fun songs my 7 year old could learn to sing. He is taking a Spanish enrichment class one day a week. The songs were not easy for him to understand. Also, the tape is mostly in Spanish with no translation. A booklet would have been helpful.

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENTE!.......2000-03-06

If your children speak spanish or are learning to, you MUST have this cd. Its a wonderful teaching tool. My boys LOVE the music of jose luis orozco. He makes learning another language FUN through his renditions of classic latin-american folkloric songs and songs about counting, etc. Great for babies, and especially preschoolers and kindergartners.

4 out of 5 stars I bought volumes 1-5!.......2000-02-26

These songs have been a family staple. I want to raise my son to be bilingual, and Orozco's tapes really help a lot. Every morning, before my son eats, we get the music going as I get the diaper changed. He really responds to the upbeat music. If you're like me and forgot all those childhood songs your mami used to sing to you, this collection among the other volumes will bring pleasant memories.

The one thing to be aware of is that there are repeats in the tapes (same song found in more than one tape). So, check your song list when buying more than one.

This is one of my favorite records, along with other recordings of this incredible couple, Rodrigo and Remedios. However, I know that the desciption "Ana Rodrigo" is wrong, the singer is Remedios Flores. Please correct this in your listing.

5 out of 5 stars rodrigo died in 1996, remedios now is living in san diego.......2001-12-26

I love this record and found out that rodrigo and remedios made many more recordings that were never released. After a lot of research, I found out that Rodrigo died in 1996 at the age of 47, and a great career in music was cut short. He was survived by his wife Remedios who now lives in San Diego, California. She has not recorded since. I would really like some musicologist to find her and try to get her to sing again. She is incredible and a real treasure. What a shame that an era is on the verge of dying out. I would be glad to help anyone interested, if I can....

Album Description

Truly a "river of colors", this new recording by the original world jazz guitar duo rushes forth with the top flight mastery of the acoustic guitar and improvisation that the duo is renowned for. At once adventurous and elegant, this recording spans a breadth of styles, incorporating flutes, violin, bouzouki and percussion. With a hand-picked selection of musicians from Latin America, the Middle East and the US, this work celebrates a colorful cultural diversity, music that S&F have pioneered since 1979. The compositions range from flamenco, Persian, Latin folk, and jungly to the romantically classic, with harmonic twists and rhythmic textures overlaid with fluid melodies. Their 12th album, Rio de Colores epitomizes refined world fusion.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Their work is like a duel and a dance at the same time. .......2007-07-06

This duo is one of the best in the music world. I was just hoping it was "Rio ... de Janeiro", since I really enjoy their music and hoped they would do something with Brazilian music some day. Maybe next time ... ?

5 out of 5 stars Another Hit From Strunz and Farah!.......2006-02-13

This is another great Strunz and Farah album, but it is hard to beat their previous works Americas and Heat of the Sun. However any way you slice it it is still world class Flamenco and Latin guitar music. If you are new to Strunz and Farah get Americas and/or Heat of the Sun. They are awesome! If you already own those titles and are looking for more excellent Spanish guitar music then pick up this title, Zona Torrida, Wild Muse, and Stringweave. That will give you a strong and amazing collection of music from this genre. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars AWSOME, A MUST HAVE.......2004-06-24

I have all of S&F cds in my collection, This CD is probaly one of my favorites.
When I play Rio De Colores it reminds me of Americas, I can play it begining to end and enjoy every piece of it.
It is very refreshing and pleasant, some of the pieces have a middle eastern flavor some have south american.
Seeing S&F in concert is a must, this is where all hell breaks loose and they let their creativity and free style guitar playing,
dominate the stage.

5 out of 5 stars The CD is great but they are amazing LIVE!.......2004-04-15

I caught them out in Los Angeles and they were amazing. Nothing beats seeing them live and seeing their hands move so fast they blurr before your very eyes. The other musicians are also fantastic especially the conga player. You want to see an amazing cast of musicians, don't miss S&F when they come to your town.

...Amazing! Incredible! Excellent! Superb! Magnificent! Exceptional! Brilliant! Awesome! Mind-defying! What else can I say?! All the way through their career in multi-cultural latin-fusion-improvised-ethnojazz rythms and songs Strunz and Farah have impressed and knocked many off their feet with their staggering technique and resembling-impossibility swiftness! This particular disc fulfills S&T's legacy of holding everybody's breath at listening to their compositions. I, somewhat of a guitar-player, just sometimes ponder: "with their skill, infinity on the guitar is possible, there's nothing they can't do on this divine instrument." Buy the CD, you won't ever regret it.
