Since they burst on the scene from Guadalajara, Mexico, in the early '90s, Maná have reigned as the premier Latin rock band of our time. Led by the powerful and passionate vocalist-composer Fher González, drummer Alex González, and the incredible guitarist Sergio Vallin, the combo beautifully blends American power rock with Hispanic folk idioms and Afro-Caribbean rhythms. This three-CD compilation contains the band's greatest hits, from their debut CD, Falta Amor to their groundbreaking, Grammy Award-winning MTV Unplugged recording. All of their favorites are here, including "Vivir Sin Aire," "Dónde Jugarán los Niños?," "Se Me Olvido Otra Vez," and the reggae-tinged "Selva Negra." Unlike their American counterparts who sing songs about parties and sex, Maná has performed a number of socially conscious compositions. The most prominent tunes in that genre are "Cuando Los Angeles Lloran," composed for the legendary Brazilian environmentalist-activist Chico Mendez, and "Ana," a song about teenage pregnancy. Other favorites, such as "La Chula" and "Como Tedeseo," are remixed as pop-dance numbers. This amazing box set includes 3 of Maná's earliest CDs: "Cuando Los Ángeles Lloran" (1995), "¿Dónde Jugarán Los Niños?" (1994), and "Falta Amor" (1992). Each CD has it's own style, but all of the songs are awesome. Great addition to your Maná collection! I also highly recommend "Sueños Líquidos" and "Revolución de Amor"!

Mana is the standard to which all Latin pop/rock bands will be measured for years to come! They are truly the Latin Beatles!
Great lyrics, vocals, and great musicians! They sound awesome Live! Every concert I've attended (8 total) the crowd chants all the songs and never sits throughout the whole show! Amazing!

As pioneers in their rock-carribean flavored music, Mana let's it all out with this best-of compilation. Whether you have never heard of them or you own 1-2 of their albums, you are guaranteed to enjoy all the tracks on this CD. When living in Mexico about 10 years ago, I saw Mana live about 5 times, from a small 200 person venue to large arena style concerts, and I can say they are as good live as they are in the studio. They rank among my top five best rock bands! This CD will truly add to your collection.

Wonderful.......2007-05-12

Truly universal music is supposed to speak to the heart, rather than to the ears. "Lo Esencial Mocedades" is a good case in point. I purchased it because I wanted a fresh remastering of the only hit they had in this country, 1974's exquisite "Eres Tu". But there's much more to this group than that one fluke hit. On every track, the ethereal harmonies lift you away with them, and even though I don't understand a lot of Spanish, the songs are always involving. Though most of the tracks come from the 70s, there are also examples from the 80s of how Mocedades tried to keep their sound fresh, and they succeeded beautifully. Everyone should have "Eres Tu" in their collection (The lame English translation, "Touch the Wind", only available in the flip of the 45, is not here, thank God), but, trust me, you will be swept away by the harmonious beauty that is the music of Mocedades.

one of the most innovative salsa bands of our generation............2006-10-24

It seems like just yesterday, when I was first introduced to the wonderfully catchy and distinctive sounds of the late, great salsa ensemble, DLG (or Dark Latin Groove). It featured the smooth R&B style crooning of lead singer Huey Dunbar, the gruff raps of James "Da Barba" de Jesus, and the smoother rap freestyle of Fragancia. How would I describe this band to those who have yet to hear their music? DLG juxtaposes salsa, reggae, rap, hip hop and adult contemporary sounds, they then blend them together and stir......creating their unique, self-proclaimed "salsa reggae" sound. It is a sound that definitely appeals to a younger generation of salsa lovers, yet has crossover appeal with the older generation of more traditionalists. We have the brilliance of album producer Sergio George, of Sergio George Productions, to thank for that.

Some of their most popular and well-loved songs are featured on "Lo Esencial DLG" ("The Essential DLG"). This includes their remake of the popular Wilfredo Vargas song, "La Quiero a Morir" ("I Love Her to Death"), complete with freestyle raps and Huey wailing like there's no tomorrow. Huey's voice is comparable to young Michael Jackson (I am talking pre-"Thriller", post Jackson 5). They also do remakes of "Juliana" (with help from salsa great Cuco Valoy), "Volvere," "No Morira (No Matter What)," "La Soledad (The Loneliness)," and "Me Va Extrañar (Unchained My Heart)." The songs featured, here, are basically a sample from the three albums the group released (DLG, Swing On!, and Gotcha!).

I guarantee you that this album will get you up and dancing, even if you have never taken a salsa dancing class in your life. It just makes you wonder where these guys could be, today, if they had stayed together.
