Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars mostly weak material and wasted talent.......2004-07-04

There is little worth listening to in this disappointing CD, and only two tracks that I actually enjoy listening to, Celsio Piña's "Llanto", which he sings with a slight wobble in pitch but a lot of passion, and has a strong musical arrangement and a lovely tune, and Maria Maria's "Zapata Vive", which has over-amplified vocals but is a lively, thoroughly engaging song.
I think Alejandro Fernandez is one of the best singers on the planet, but I can't get too enthusiastic about "Luchare por Tu Amor"; it has a weak melody, and considering what he is capable of vocally, it is an underwhelming performance. Fernandez plays Zapata in "Zapata, el Sueño del Heroe", the latest film from director Alfonso Arau, whose previous "Like Water for Chocolate" and "A Walk in the Clouds" are beautifully made, delightful films.

I usually like Ana Gabriel, and her singing is unique and lovely, but "Morir para Vivir" is about as ordinary as a ranchera can get, and does not do her artistry justice.
Tres de Copas' "Esta Vida", and Jaime Camill's "La Tierra de Mi Pueblo" are quite pleasant, but the remaining 3 songs, which are "pop" style ballads, will make good use of the "skip" button.
The CD ends with two instrumentals from the soundtrack by Ruy Folguera, and the sound quality for these final tracks could be better.
The foldout insert has the lyrics for "Luchare por Tu Amor", and the recording info for the 11 tracks.
Total playing time is 45'56.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but..........2004-06-23

This soundtrack combine ten song: the most representative is LUCHARE POR TU AMOR, the movie theme, this song is very good and it's sing by Alejandro Fernandez (Emiliano Zapata in the movie) Other important song is LA TIERRA DE MI PUEBLO, a nice fresh composition by Jaime Camil (Eufemio Zapata in the movie), and don't forget MORIR PARA VIVIR by Ana Gabriel. The others songs try to make a nice atmosphere around the soundtrack, but it can't be possible.
The two scores (11 & 12) are wonderful, specially GUERRERO SAGRADO a beautiful song. EL HOMBRE DE MAIZ is the score that appeared in the movie trailer.
Thus, it's a good soundtrack. The only bad point is the small selection of scores, and the missing of others good songs of the movie. It can be a soundtrack with 20 tracks.

4 out of 5 stars Great... But Where's The Rest?.......2004-06-12

Only One Song By Alejandro Fernandez...Yikes!!! Granted It Is A Beautiful Song & Is Sung By The Best Male Singer Around...But I Would Enjoy The Cd More If He Had Sang More Songs. Jaime Camil & Reyli Barba Also Have Great Songs On This Cd!! Now If They Will Just Release The Movie On DVD!!!!!
