Album Description

Celldweller combines the electronic and the organic, darkness and beauty, aggression and sensuality, with the ability to find its home in the mosh pit as easily as on the dj's turntable. Their debut self-titled album ranges from guitar based electronic rock to the unique blending of heavily distorted guitars and aggression with drum and bass trance. Celldweller's music has been featured on television shows including: "The Chris Isaac Show" (Showtime), "Higher Ground" (ESPN, MTV); video game placements, including: "NHL Hockey" (EA), "Road Rash: Jailbreak" (EA), and "Test Drive: Off Road" (Infogames); and even in the Martin Lawrence movie, "National Security".

4 out of 5 stars Different and Good!.......2007-03-12

This CD was recommended by a friend based upon bands that I listen to now (Metallica, NIN, Korn..). He said it was a little different but thought I'd like it. A great mix of alternative and metal. I truly liked the entire CD.

5 out of 5 stars Exceeded my expectations.......2007-02-22

I'm relatively new to the industrial-ish scene and didn't know what to expect from this CD. I had heard "Switchback" and "The Last Firstborn" and *loved* them but I'm almost always cautious of other tracks that I haven't heard yet on albums I buy. To my pleasure I found out that my caution was unnecessary. I enjoy pretty much all of the tracks on this CD. My favorites remain as Switchback and The Last Firstborn but I discovered I really liked "Frozen." My recommendation? If you liked Switchback, The Last Firstborn, or "One Good Reason" (all of which you can hear on Pandora) then I feel you'll like this album.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!.......2006-11-06

This album is incredible. It never gets old, there are no repedative samples, it's hard without being too edgy like Argyle Park. You just need to buy it!

5 out of 5 stars Hard II Label - Easy II Love.......2006-08-30

Celldweller has gained alot of respect and fans since the release of this. With many of these songs heard in Movies, Video Games & Internet Radio and a MySpace page filled to the brim with loyal Klayton fans. The ironic part is this guy is from Michigan (where I happen to live) where Industrial & Techno are far from the main trend. Yet this One Man Army is easily one of the most idolized idependent artists in the state, If not the country.

The albums approach is a mix of several different genres. Alternative, CyberTek, Gothic, Industrial, Metal & Techno. They all combine into a well oiled machine creating some of the most original music i've ever heard. From gritty synthed out guitar riffs, to dark overtones with soft melodic vocals and everything in between.

Songs such as 'Tragedy' have lyrics easy to sing along with and fast paced music easy to dance to or even head bang to. Other songs such as 'Switchback' have a heavier Industrial Metal influence and even have Klayton singing in audible Growl/Yell form. Tracks with a darker grittier approach like 'Symbiont' have Cyber Goth written all over them and are a nice addition to the album.

Metal fans be cautious, This album really isn't all that heavy. I suggest checking out songs on MySpace before purchasing. Everyone else don't hesitate, This is a great and original album to add to your collection. Personal favorites include: Frozen - Tragedy - Symbiont - Afraid This Time.

-If you took the time to read my review, Please take the time to rate it and let me know whether it Helped you or Not.

-Thank you, A loyal Celldweller fan & Michigan Music supporter.

5 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars. Excellent album........2006-08-29

I was fortunate enough to get this disc a little while back, and I had no idea the version I acquired was a low bit rate, internet leak. So, about 2 months ago, I buy the album and never really do much with it, but yesterday I brought it into work and I was floored at the difference. Lesson learned: Buy your CD's, even if you get the "early" version. Or just wait for the final to drop.

Yes, Celldweller is not Circle of Dust. They aren't industrial. What we've got here is a tapestry of rock, house, drum n' bass, and industrial, and it's quite a project he has here. A lot of people criticize it because he uses clean vocals, catchy harmonies, and club beats. I praise the man for it, and I'll tell you why this album is amazing, and why it's pushing the envelope. (Hopefully the soon-to-appear sophomore disc will be the sonic powerhouse a lot of people have been saying it is). Also, I'm going to not compare it to Circle of Dust or Argyle Park, as this is a completely different beast.

First off, Celldweller is defintely catchy and poppy. There is no doubting this. Some of their songs, like the rap infused synthetic rocker Switchback, are high energy affairs that allow you to bob your head and sing along. However, the variety of song structures, the use of synths, heavily processed guitars, and throbbing programmed drum beats all come together to produce something that doesn't skimp on either the rock or techno side. This isn't electronica sprikled over numetal, ala Spineshank, and it defintely isn't techno with a bit of guitar filled in. This a perfectly balanced combination of the two creating something quite unique, good to the ears, and something you can dance to. Once the album progresses and you start hearing the acoustic bits, the catchy rock riffs, the vocoded female vocal leads, you'll start to understand: This isn't a faliure at industrial, it's an almagamtion of all the styles of music the man in charge (Klayton) enjoys.

The high points for me are without a doubt the 7 minute techno epic "The Last Firstborn", with its hypnotic house rhythms, amazingly well mixed guitar parts that don't overwhelm the general feeling but add immesurably to it, and the whispered/raspy spoken word/rap hybrid vocals. Add some cool guitar breakdowns and infintely creepy lyrics, and it's a 10/10. The other high point comes later in the album, the much shorter and more rock-styled Fadeaway. From the trip-hop intro, which quickly gets a dose of chugging riffage, to the soaring and amazingly catchy chorus, this song rocks your ears until it drops down into an unexpected acoustic break complete with erie synths switching between your ears and a solemn vocal performance.

I can't recommend this album enough to people who have an affinity for rock and an even passing interest in electronica and industrial rock (Front Line Assembly fans need not apply ;) ). Don't expect a mind-twisting, calculated insanity. This is not Aphex Twin with guitars. This is straight up 4/4 beats, a high range mix of vocals, simple rock guitars, enough hooks to hold down a hungry Oprah, and some of the best club sample work I've heard outside of rave dj's. If your idea of great music simply consists of how heavy it is, then you're better off somewhere else. If your benchmark of good industrial is Squarepusher or Aphex Twin (both of which I love, btw) and if your rock collection consists of Gorguts, Starkweather, or even to a lesser degree Trivium, this probably isn't the album for you.

However, if you can take some pop, some club beats, and a motherload of catchy rhythms, get this album. You will not regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Always a good choice.......2007-06-01

Plain and simple, if you like this album see Ours live. Prepare to be blown away. I have had this cd in my car cd player for about 6 months and I can still listen to it over and over again. I have to say that I am addicted to this band and cd. It is amazing.

4 out of 5 stars Can we get another album?.......2007-03-05

I enjoy this one a lot and and came out with this strong album. Starts nicely with a native beat, a low tone singer and a higher tone singer which is pretty much similar to Bono.

I find he has a lot in commun with Muse's album Origin of symmetry on many points (Darkshine = Drowning) or (Feeling good = Miseryhead) who cares it's striptease time ... both albums out the same year at one month from each other.

Medication makes me think of Underneath from The verve pipe. I always loved that song. Both albums out the same year again.

He even sound like Pineapple thief on meet me in the tower.

My personal favorite is Sometimes and I'm a monster

5 out of 5 stars death of an imaginary enemy.......2007-02-02

the band ours has been apart of my past for the last seven years. i still remember the first time i heard their music. it was a beautiful, sunny warm spring day and the song "sometimes" from distorted lullabies graced my car's radio station. the echos of jimmy gnecco's voice took a hold of my heart in a way that i had never really experienced before. it became like a reasoning, a feeling that never wanted to leave and has remained with me ever since.

ours has been through a few different changes of band members, but the one thing that has forever remained true is the loyalty of the fans and their relationship with jimmy.

over the past few years, the live experiences have been full of a warmth that resurrected throughout the crowd and created a feeling that gave absolutely everyone the power to sing. familiar friends and fans would fly from all over the world to attend strings of performances in random cities and the audience would immediately react to certain special songs like "meet me in the tower", as if they were religiously their own. everytime when the music would stop and cries upon harmonies continued, it sent chills all over the room. there was an important aspect of attending those shows, meeting new strangers who actually had a special love for something they found in the music and the bond that you'd immediately share. i remember leaving with such strong highs and lows due to the unknown intense understanding of when id ever feel like that again.

to many special fans, we've been waiting very patiently for the last four years for a new album and the time has deservingly come. my only hope for those who are being newly introduced to the music for the first time, realize that ours is not just like any other band; they are a connection to a hidden place that lies very deep within the soul.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely necessary. Click "Buy Now.".......2006-07-22

Ours would be nothing without Jimmy Gnecco's powerful singing. His voice [frequently described, somewhat accurately, as the bastard child of Bono and Jeff Buckley] wraps around every word, caressing tenderly before shattering to pieces with straight-from-the-gut screams. Gnecco's remarkable range and vocal character is best shown off in the stunning opener "Fallen Souls," which delivers a swift kick to the nuts to listeners expecting mild-mannered singing.

The rest of the songs on the album fail miserably to disappoint. Gnecco's simple, often abstract lyrics deal with the dark side of the human emotional spectrum. Yet it is very possible to listen to Ours while in a good mood and STAY in a good mood - unlike, say, "Disintegration" by The Cure (try listening to the title track and see how happy you are after that!). My personal favorites are probably considered the most melodramatic tracks on the album: "Miseryhead" whines in a sarcastic self-aware manner; "Here Is The Light" and "Meet Me In The Tower" feature catchy hooks and beautifully haunting vocal work.

Fans of Morrissey, Jeff Buckley and Queen (look for the Ours cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody floating on the Internet - Gnecco SINGS the guitar solo) will definitely appreciate this album, but it's worth a listen for everyone. Just make a point not to buy it for background music's sake; the songs on "Distorted Lullabies" will keep you up rather than put you to sleep.

5 out of 5 stars This album absolutely blew me away........2006-07-19

The first song I heard from this album was Fallen Souls. I picked up the name somewhere (the internet, no doubt) and so I looked into them. The first time I heard Fallen Souls I was a bit indifferent to it. It was good, but that was all until I heard the ending and the resounding yell that shows just some of what Jimmy's range is like. I heard Medication a few short days later and was hooked, and I have been since.

It's a crying shame that this band hasn't gotten more attention than it has. To this day I only know one other person who had ever heard of Ours, but they, like myself, fell in love with the first few listens.

This album is amazing and I would reccomend it to anyone, and in fact show them off to my friends as much as I can because of the impact they have made on me.

1. Fallen Souls - outstanding. An excellent way to start up the album with the fade-in and the way it just immediately puts you into the music with no long lead-ins. 10.

2. Drowning. Another excellent track that keeps the music moving and the mood of the album alive. 8.

3. I'm a Monster - the only track I have a tendency to skip over, but not a bad song at all. 7

4. Sometimes - gets you right back into the thick of things and opens up a little bit deeper into the feelings that come out with each listen-to of the album. 8

5. Miseryhead - I can see where people could not like this song, but I love it. Fun song to listen to and adds a touch of a moodiness to things for me. 9.

6. Here is the Light - Excellent. Absolutely, and the ending is just beautiful. Great way to descend off but not feel like it's dragged out too long.

7. Medication - An amazing display of vocal range. The beginning starts out with his deep, almost sultry voice and by the end he is up into his amazing high range again. I'm a girl and I can't come anywhere close to the notes he can hit. Love it. 10.

8. Dancing Alone - Another one of those good songs that makes it really hard to skip. More upbeat and slightly less depressing than the previous tracks, but it never shies away from the depth of the album, which makes it a great song. 9.

9. Bleed - Another good display of vocal talent and songwriting ability here. 8

10. Dizzy - Not my favorite track. The only track on the CD I can say I am not a huge fan of, but I obviously like it enough to where I listen to it still. 6.5

11. Meet Me in the Tower - Another one of my favorites. I love his voice in this song and the way the song progresses. 10.

12. As I Wander - A fine example of the low range that he is capable of. It's hard for me to believe (still) the depth his voice can reach. Good song. 9.

The singer in this band stands out as one of very few absolutely excellent vocalists in my mind, range-wise, with a more modern approach to singing with a vocal range comparable (almost) to Freddie Mercury. Excellent.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good.......2006-09-10

Ok first off, I've only heard a couple of Ashley's other songs. I'm new to him. I love Celtic music and just found out about him. The Celtic songs I've heard are great. I decided to get this since it's a rock album. It has it's good and bad points. His vocals aren't great, but they seem very emotional to me and I like that. There is a very good range of music styles from punk to rock to blues to country witch I also like. The songs that jump out at me are "Bitch" and "Because I love you" especially the latter. They are just so emotional to me and I can totally identify with them. The part I can live without is the gay crap, but hey each to his own. With all that being said. I do prefer the great fiddle player he seems to be.

2 out of 5 stars Listen before you buy.......2006-08-26

Ashley MacIsaac should have stuck with Scotish/Celtic music. I do not recommend this CD to those who enjoyed his previous works.

5 out of 5 stars Ashley Explodes.......2006-05-14

Ashley MacIsaac's self-titled Decca CD was one of my favorites with "Lay Me Down" becoming one of my all-time classic tracks. This set rocks out with Ashley giving the finger on the inner cover announcing that he's no longer Mr. Nice Guy. "Bitch" rocks mercilessly followed by "Just Because" that also pulses furiously. "Love 'Em" burns with sensation without regard to being tidy or polite, "I dance with the Tommies; I wear my pajamies." "Because You Love Me" is another staunch rocker with Ashley's vocals, all sass and no apology. Not until "Revolution," the 7th track, does MacIsaac slow even a tad with this washboard melody country parody. "You took the gun from my head & you took the fun from my bed," MacIsaac sings on "Nights Wasted Away" in a Stonesy burner. "A Man Like You" is a love song with the Ashley's vocals worn and weary, "I would take you in my arms; you would do the same; We could be as free as love, supposed to feel this way." "Because I Love You" is the first openly acoustic track, confessional in tone, before MacIsaac explodes dramatically, "Why do you make me want to see you die; I wanna kill you. Do you think you can play me for a fool? ... I know the Golden Rule." The set ends up with "Sick of Rock & Roll." MacIsaac's "Pride" is starkly different from his other work, excellent on its own merits, rough and frayed without pretense. It's a great set if you can stand it! Bravo!

4 out of 5 stars Not his usual fare, but not to be dismissed........2006-04-13

Honestly, I enjoy MacIsaac's singing voice as much as I enjoy his fiddle playing. His voice reminds me of Rob Dougan's-- A bit rough with a raw quality that evokes a visceral reaction in the listener-- and I've found that the music on this album can go with me in the car, in my office, or when I'm out walking. Perhaps my appreciation of it has been influenced by my admiration for MacIsaac and his courage in making an album that is so different from anything else he's produced, but I think this album has its own merits and I liked it just as much as his other musical endeavors.

4 out of 5 stars A Bold Move that hits and misses.......2006-03-28

"Bitch" opens the album of new material by famous gay in a kilt Ashley MacIsaac, and it indicates that this album is going to be a strange departure indeed. Considering what I am used to hearing from him... more classical than grunge, this is a bold departure... kind of punk meets... well, anti-melody.
That said, Bitch is nothing to scoff at. The song, after multiple listens is quite catchy (and in my car stereo it actually is pump worthy)
I particualrly enjoy "Just Because" which seems to borrow its melody from the likes of the Bravery and a lyrical style from Ashlee Simpson. As a matter of fact, most of the writing on this release seems to be a tad bit teen-ish and considering it has a "parental advisory" sticker slapped on it, that isn't really a good thing.
The thing I really like about "Pride" is that the voice that made me like him in the first place (heard on "Lay Me Down" from his self titled album) pops up throughout the album. He does not have a conventional pop-rock voice and perhaps that is one reason he is being dissed by other reviewers. But I have to say that I enjoy that voice and while it seems like he strains to get the notes out... it is a strain that I find endearing and entertaining. This album is no masterpiece, but with a few sprinkles of glittery fun and a gothic tinged "Because I Love You", this album is not a complet waste in my collection. It is a bold departure from the celtic intrumental he has enchanted many with... and I hope he continues to branch out and polish his edge (and improve those ltrics... stat). This album is not for everyone... note it is heavily influenced by punk and alternative rock... but for someone like me who has an ecclectic taste in music, this is fun spin for sure.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Crystal clear production and interesting arrangements........2007-06-23

I really like this album and I think the intent of the musician is somewhat more involved than the lyrics would have you believe. I think he is railing against the church and how it has distorted and destroyed whatever purity there was about the early Christian movement.

Musically, the horror film samples work well next to the distorted vocals. The synths sound fantastic and the percussion has a nice amount of grainy distortion added so that the tracks are rarely boring, if at all - they pound, scream and soar through the average sonic boundary.

I agree with Virus mag's review in that this album is not the most original thing out there, but the concept of the album is interesting and keeps it all pieced together. There's nothing bad about this album per se, but nothing really grabs my attention as being too exciting in terms of originality.

Nevertheless, a good album for fans of dark electro/industrial/terror EBM.

5 out of 5 stars THE CHILD DEVIANT!.......2007-06-11

I picked up this album at a record store and had no idea what it was going to sound like. When I got in my car and popped it into the CD player, I was hooked from the first track. The production is impressive. The music of Distorted Memory is definitly along the lines of spooky industrial elecronica (EBM). The lyrics are all about religion and why it sucks. I love the song "Sweet Evil", and "Confession" most of all. Lyrics like "redemption for your sins denied, a life of hatred, scorn, and lies"...should help give you an idea of artist's direction. This is a verry aggressive Industrial dance album that borders on violence. Fans of Psyclon Nine, Suicide Cammando, and Grendel won't be dissapointed. I consider this to be one of the best Electronic-Industrial albums of 2007.

    5 out of 5 stars A nice suprise!.......2007-06-09

I didn't think that this was ganna be an album that I would enjoy, but I got to hear it all the way through and I think it's actually excelent. It's a brutal anti-christian Industrial/EBM band that is shure to please any fan of Suicide Cammando. Verry good production, includes a cool photo of the artist and all the lyrics.

    5 out of 5 stars $100?!.......2006-04-27

Is this a typo? Are you aware that this is available on celldweller.com for $15?

5 out of 5 stars Can be easily downloaded for $10 on Yahoo Music Engine or I-tunes.......2006-04-11

Since amazon isn't currently selling this product, and the one guy who does have it is selling it for $100 (understood, it is pretty rare), I reccomend you download this off the net the LEGAL way cause that's pretty much the only way to get this one. Anyway, if you liked the Original Celldweller cd then you'll love this 2-disc set with almost 30 songs and several remixes and instrumental versions of songs from their debut cd(2003). However, the best feature of this album is the song "Switchback (Detroit 2000)". If you were a fan of the original Switchback, then you'll think this is a million times better.. they sacrifice a lil bit of the techno to make this version ALOT heavier. Thumbs Up all the way around, especially the instrumental version of I Believe You.

Sounds raw, fresh, and intense. Kind of explodes out of your speakers. I listen to this every few months and it always seems different from anything else in my collection. It's not that they're inventing anything, so I guess it means they're very good at what they do.

5 out of 5 stars No BS rock.......2005-06-11

If you like blues based garage band kick ass rock then this is the CD you have waiting for.

      >>New York City's Suffrajett ..... led by the sweet and raw vocals of Simi. Simi, a classically trained singer from Woodstock, NY, and Chicagoan guitarist Jason Chasko, who played with Liz Phair on Whitechocolatespaceegg, formed Suffrajett in 2002. With Kevin Roberts (Elysian Fields) on bass and Frank Ferrer (the Psychedelic Furs) on drums

      5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-07-16

The other reviewer for this album must be confusing it with a completely different band. This is NOT a ska album in the least. It's sort of Big Black meets Black Flag. Hhmm, maybe a very raw Ministry? They're hard to quantify. Not metal, not industrial, not punk. But if you like hardcore punk and industrial you'll love these guys. It, along with Distorted Pony's other album are amazing. Dueling male and female vocals.

      3 out of 5 stars Not Bad-not the greatest.......2003-09-08

I am not really a fan of Instant Winner, I basicaly just came across them through garageband.com They sound like your typical Ska band with a dash of punk. If your into ska buy this albulm. You won't regret it but you won't be listening to them until 5AM in the morning. Maybe 3AM. But as I am currently listening to them right now they sounds really good. Buy this albulm. Songs Iv've heard on this albulm are good. They kind of remind me of a toned down version of Less Than Jake.

      Album Description

With Ganymede, Micronaut takes the experience of the Chicago underground electronic music scene to a new level. Stuttering breakbeats, deep ragga bass, and a thick layer of distorted synths, winding guitar lines and obscure samples all compete to take the listener on a tour of the heavy side of electronic music.

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars not THE ganymede.......2003-09-05

Just a word of warning, this is not the better known synthpop band from Cali also named Ganymede, who came on the scene in 2000.

5 out of 5 stars Sister Machine WHO??.......2003-07-13

This is Sister Machine Guns side project, whom I dont care for to much. And that is why I was so surprised when I heard this CD. Nothing to deep here, but really catchy, not dance club catchy, but really good
