Calidad , talento y sentimiento .......2007-01-03

Excelente trabajo de esta joven cantante. Su padre , el icono de la nueva trova cubana, Pablo Milanes, debe estar muy orgulloso. Aqui es aplicable el dicho "el que lo hereda no lo hurta". Pero hay que aclarar que su estilo es uno muy diferente al de su padre y tiene una personalidad musical propia. Recientemente la vi en vivo en Puerto Rico y les puedo asegurar que su talento es real; no es truco de estudio de grabacion.
Es decepcionante que la persona que escribio la primera resena, en ingles, le diera solo una o dos estrellas solo por la superficialidad de no poder grabar el cd en su computadora...si te interesa la calidad musical y disfrutas de las voces femeninas con sentimiento y tecnica, este disco es para ti.

This disc is labeled "enhanced". What it is is "Copy-protected".
It cannot be digitally copied at all. It will not play in Itunes or Windows Media Player. It comes with player software installed on the cd. I think shoppers should know this and not waste their time buying it if they want to play in on their computers and transfer to portable devices. I was intrigued by this artist and wanted to try her work. But, this is a rip-off because of what I have mentioned. It also may not play in some cd players because of the copy-protection. I though others should know. Amazon dropped the ball on this.

This is an interesting album with unique arrangements, catchy melodies, and a very strong voice captured on a crisp recording.

The songs vary from emotion-filled-pop-infused-loved-songs ('Tu y Yo,' 'Libelula,' 'Donde Van Las Palabras') to a vaguely samba rhythm tune, 'Mi Pasion, Mi Vida,' to a Cuban sound in 'Santa Madre,' and 'La Musica.'

Haydee's voice will make you listen to even your least favorite song on the album over and over again. It possesses an addictive tone, it is sweet and playful, yet gritty, sensual, and strong.

This seems like an effortless work, like there was never a doubt about its direction. The sound is generally mellow, but the danceable songs pop up at the perfect time on the record and prevent things from getting boring. Smoothness reigns throughout. It is clear that the songs are coming from an artist with a distinctive perspective of her craft.

The songs lead you where the artist wants to take you, and it is a delightful trip, filled with fine instrumentation and a passion filled voice. It would be a pity to miss out.

Schvartz can warm -up the coldestly conceived music.......1999-12-14

Sometimes you buy music for the level of performance only rather than the music. And this is the case here where the music seems to be lots of filler incidental,marginal or just boring. The two short Berio pieces here is an example. Berio had no imagination for the piano, more orchestral and vocal colours, for which few can equal him. Cage's "Perpetual Tango" is simply rhythms given to play based on a Satie tango. And Schvartz nourishes this cold template with life, like putting emotive electrodes to Cage's scribblings. The Scelsi here are powerful pieces conceived as improvisations and later transcribed, but they reflect his interest in Asia, the god Vishnu and the inherent spirtuality. The music is gong-like and clangorous,written in 1953 it was indeed experimental for its time. Scelsi living as a recluse in Rome ignored the Darmstadt tyranny contemporary with this music. The Arvo Part is a wonderfully beautiful, an excursion into simplicity, and evocativness in a few high tones. The subsequent variations seems to fill in emotive spaces that should have been left alone. That is the creative power of Part's music he never overwrites, and knows how to evoke with one breath, one stroke of the pen. The Kagel piece here is a post-minimalist incidental excursion and filler music,Harold Budd was far more advanced in this language,A pity for Kagel is a master at timbre and pure anarchic combustion.

A Daring Departure.......2000-04-20

As a long-time fan and student of the music of Astor Piazzolla, I consider 1955 to be the year he began the redefinition of the tango, burning many bridges in the process. Not just one, but two "radical" projects were embarked upon in that seminal year. Piazzolla took the traditional tango orchestra and pared it down to form his Octeto Buenos Aires. This new form angered the traditionalists and stunned the avant-garde with its powerful new sound. In it, two bandoneons do all the work of four or five, demanding a virtuoso proficiency on an already difficult instrument. The new Piazzolla composition, Marron Y Azul, introduced the electric guitar into tango for the first time, and is used in various ways throughout the album including as a substitute for bongos. Piano and violin took a greater rhythmic and harmonic role than traditionally. Piano solos of great technical difficulty are introduced. I consider Piazzolla to be the John Mayall of the tango; always exploring, always improvising and most importantly, always able to ferret out just the right musicians for the project at hand. Atilio Stampone, to mention one, here proves himself equal to the piano tasks demanded. If you are used to the traditional tango and unfamiliar with the work of Piazzolla, then you might find this work a little disconcerting. In view of the tango community's reaction to it, I find it daring. Traditional tunes like Cobian's "Los Mareados" are reworked to great effect and new works like "Marron Y Azul" are introduced. I mentioned two radical projects in 1955. If you can find the Piazzolla album "Paris 1955", compare and contrast the work he does there with the Paris Opera's Orchestra and the great French jazz pianist Martial Solal to the work he does the same year with his octet. The difference could not be more profound! Incidentally, five stars would not do that incredible album justice. Both Octeto Buenos Aires and Paris 1955 belong in any serious Piazzolla fan's collection as the work shows, within the space of one year, the astounding breadth of his talent and the promise of greatness to come.

Stunning and evocative performances that reveal the passion and depth of Tango. Close your eyes and you could be there amongst the docks of Buenos Aires, listening to a lover's lament echoing amongst the cobblestones and the darkness. Mmmmm....

The Best Tango music sung since Gardel.......1998-08-25

Many listens to Tango music expecting dance rythms. This album however not only capture the essence of Tango, but it also shows the deep meaning and vocal passion of Tango music. Ms. Alba vocal style is deeply rooted in Argentinian dialect and express the most passion in the music. My favorites are "Volver" and acapella "Nostalgia"

this very minimalistic piece written by john cage in his earlier stage for merce cunningham's dance piece, here was interpreted by haydee schvatz so powerfully yet emotionally delicate. also jack bruce's interpretation of the unaccompanied song is exceptionally beautiful.

This CD is not for tango dancing. It is a Haydee's solo singing with a street organ accompaniment. Beautiful, exquisite. Tango group in Montreal (Canada) rated this one as one of the best tango recording in 2000. I agree.
