4 out of 5 stars Aztec Hard-Electro.......2005-08-26

Their symbol is an insect that is a cross between a beetle and a spider. Each insect in Mexico since before the arrival of the Spaniards has had its own myth acquainted with it, and this creature is the hideous progeny of the dysgenic Mexico City. The lyrics of Hocico ("snout") of course reflect the degeneracy of modern man, though unlike mainstream music which whines about an individual's personal problems with backward family/fellow high schoolers/ex's, they actually strike out at thick branches of internal war of man's soul instead of the little twigs that are problems of the ego. Not so concentrated on merely politics as Mexican hard-electro counterparts Cenobita. In Sad Scorn, they say "How can people be different? The answer doesn't exist". Similar content is in Slow Death. This might seem fatalist, but this actually means the recklessness industrial civilization to expand itself, and its effects which is much like cancer. This is the ideology of Industrial music (not cybergoth fashion); free industry has produced nothing but filth and made people into silent, inert minded drones for the bourgeois. Varg Vikernes of Burzum called it the dungeon of dreams, Hocico calls it the temple of lies. "Fatten those tender lambs...in confused mental state." Industrial music is the aggressive soundtrack to this uglyness that made one think about what's going on in their nation before much of the genre turned into insipid clubbing music. The West is decaying, and men have holes in their souls which they are never able to fill, so they have all these addictions, and the competition to acquire the material desired - be it knowledge, power or drugs - is dividing man more every day. In the final track Face to Face, you read about a warrior that is revolting against this degenerate modern world; "...Though they want me to stop, I'll keep on being. I can't change my instincts. I create my faith and defy your intentions face to face. I have no fear." This is urban warfare EBM which is not dancey as most other bands of the genre. Industrialites, be sure to read Pentti Linkola, William Gibson's Neuromancer and Ted Kaczynski's FC Manifesto.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING !.......2003-12-23

5 out of 5 stars HATE IN THE SOUL.......2002-01-08

this is the debut cd album from MEXICAN INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTIONISTS Hocico...a band with a dark DARK style never heard of before and much MUCH more evil sounding and feeling than wumpscut, velveta ASSid christ, leaether strip, suicide commando, etc... taking the influence from SKINNY PUPPY (the best!), these 2 mexicanos are truly gods of industrial, pinche perra!! get their other albums, they are all amazing!!! Cursed Land, Sangre Hirviente, Aqui y Ahora En El Silencio, & El Dia De La Ira, look out for their new album "Signos de Aberaccion" coming out in Feb. of 2002!!!! >=]

1 out of 5 stars Boring, uninspired, repetitive........2001-08-10

Take Wumpscut, sub Spanish for the German lyrics, and make it totally cliched and boring. What do you have? Hocico! Do NOT buy this CD. It's utterly terrible.

1 out of 5 stars leather strip + skinny puppy= hocico.......2001-04-03

I am a fan of Skinny puppy; I used to be one of Leather strip, but I still like some of their songs; these, together with Yelworc, are the main influences acknowledged by this mexican band. But Hocico is a bad band, in my opinion obviously. They lack ideas, I'm not a purist, and I know not every band can crate their own style, but it's just that Hocico usually tend to copy other bands (Wumpscut, Leather Strip) but they make it bad; I will explain: I think they only achieve to follow the darker sides of these said bands, but they are unable to get the subtleties hidden under Puppy's music, for instance. The first song, instrumental, is really a very good one; but the rest are so purposely agressive that they get a blurred image of other bands and sound sometimes ridiculous.
