On this comeback effort, they re-visit their signature tune, 'El Preso' and come up with a very exciting new version. They also cover the Juan Gabriel standard 'Se Me Olvido Otra Vez' in a swinging, tough salsa style. This group paved the way for Colombian stars such as Joe Arroyo and Grupo Niche. My favoured salsa cd's are this one (El preso alone is worth the price, but all are great), and Wayne Gorbea's second. I love it so much that I cannot properly express it I'm affraid.

Fruko y sus Tesos is one of the few exemplary groups who have mastered the genre of salsa known as "salsa brava". This is their second consecutive album after a long hiatus from the music world and they have once again proven that they have not lost their ability nor creativity and a strong sounding percussion and drums is still their claim to fame. This album called "Power Salsa" and rightfully so is a work of art in terms of combining well mastered beats and rhythms. Although very contemporary sounding and fast paced, Fruko has preserved many traditional elements of salsa which can be heard throughout the album. Traditionally a hard sounding salsa group, Fruko did not stray away from this style but added key elements such as "swing" and "charanga" to many of the songs thus enhancing and all already fast paced tempo. The album is a dancer's bliss and any song in the album will inspire salsa lovers to flock to the floor and groove like never before. There are some songs in this album that are in a class by themselves such as "Cachondea", "Cali de Rumba","Se me olvido otra vez", "El Swing de Fruko", "Naci en la Barriada"and "El Preso" (new version ) but as mentioned before all are worthy of praise. I highly recommend this salsa cd because of its artistic creativity and cadence by some of the finest singers that Colombia has to offer.

disappointed.......2004-06-03

I thought that this CD would have more faster, modern salsa for dancing but it sounds a bit like lift/ supermarket music. I was really looking forward to some great salsa for my dance classes but am quite disappointed.

Throughout the history of salsa many have come, many have gone. However only one musical organization can claim that they have catapulted the solo career of El Gallo Tito Rojas, and thats no other than Puerto Rican Power. Under the very jealous and detailed leadership of trumpet Master Luisito Ayala, Puerto Rican Power has managed to release some of the best, most influential and solid salsa throughout 3 decades and counting! Want to hear how influential is this band? listen to anything made in Cali Colombia as of late and compare it to their 80's and early 90's hits. This particular album is among the BEST in their long career and has definitely proved that sometimes change is good. Now released by J&N instead of their decade long MP label, PR Power is defining yet another wave of upcoming salseros. ANY of their tracks will definitely be a listening and dancing pleasure to anyone and ALL!

It Is Indeed "Wild Wild Salsa".......2002-06-02

Luisito Ayala and the Puerto Rican Power do it again. The lastest release "Cuando Faltas Tú" is the lastest jam from this CD. The two other salsa hot hits are "Pena De Amor" and "Me Tiene Loco". The whole album is awesome and since it's relase in July of 2001 it has been jamming on all the salsa radio stations and clubs. If you are a salsa aficionado or just a crazed salsa dancer you got to add this CD to your collection...

Salsa lovin' gringo.......2002-04-04

After two years in Puerto Rico I loved the music and have heard a lot of it. This CD has some of the best. There are a couple of slower songs that are not quite as fun to dance to, but they are still good. I'd recommend this album to anyone who wants to listen to some great salsa and dance the night away. Vaya Boricua!

The trouble with PRP.......2003-12-23

Puerto Rican Power is really a great group, wildly popular in the club with some infectious hits. But, as is true with most albums, there are one or two really stellar songs (in this one it's tu cariñito) and the rest are generally decent. I think that the best overall album from these folks is Wild, Wild Salsa but this is worth the buy at least for the previously mentioned track; the other songs are very danceable also. I also recommend PRP's Salsa Another Day if you can find it. That album has several really good songs.

Mediocrity At Its Best.......2001-05-30

Not that its a bad CD. But this one does not distinguish itself in any fashion from the rest of the field. One can hear pretty much the same arrangements, rhythyms, and vocals from countless other wannabee latin artists and herein lies its fault.

If you want to listen to adventuresome latin rhythyms look elsewhere. But if you just want to listen to background music while trimming your toenails, this will do just fine.

Absolutly a brilliant CD. Being new to the latin scene, I was ultimatly caputred by the cover and wanted to futher investigate so I purchased the CD and havent stopped dancing since. The vocals are great but the beats are what is so intriuging about the CD. This is the ultimate CD for working out, lifting your spirits, tapping your feet and feeling good. Its 1000% salsa and I think that all people regardless to what they're music preference is will enjoy this CD.

This CD is definately bound to make it into the top-sellers list in Salsa music. All of these songs are so rhythmic and melodic that a salsa lover can't just sit still and listen while they are playing. If you don't have Audio Player and can't sample this CD, trust me and buy it anyway. You will NOT be disappointed.

Este es el mejor disco de la trayectoria de lo que es Luisito Ayala y su Puertorrican Power. Los arreglos y las voces estaban muy buenos. Las voces de Osvaldo Roman y Joselito Gerena llevaron este disco a otro nivel. Desde las primeras palabras de el disco cuando Osvaldo empieza con "una suave caricia provocando la brisa en mi piel senti, solo pienso en ti" sabia que iba ser un disco incomparable a los restos. Ademas de ese tema llamado "Solo Pienso En Ti" tambien me encanto "Nunca Mas" de Joselo Gerena y "A Donde Iras," "No Me Acostumbro," "Juguete De Nadie," y el contagioso "Otro Poco" de Osvaldo Roman. La mezcla de un sonero como Osvaldo Roman y el la voz romantica de Joselo Gerena es una magia que a lo mejor nunca se va volver a encontrar en la orquesta de Luisito Ayala ya que Osvaldo Roman se fue a cantar con el Grupo Niche y Joselo Gerena ya tiene seis anos que no graba un disco con la orquesta.

Solid production...but a bit mellow.......2003-08-29

This is a terrific sounding cd by los Titanes de Colombia but somewhat mellow considering they can really let loose and produce some fierce salsa if necessary. The pace is quite up beat and the songs are all danceable except for the first one only because it sounds very slow in comparison to the other songs. I like all the them and especially songs #6-10. The style is a cross between salsa (Colombian style) and hints of son montuno in some of the songs. The musicality and instrumentation are all excellent but then again how could it not sound great since Diego Gale is the top percusionist. If you like los Titanes go ahead and try this new production you will enjoy it (to what degree I leave that up to you). What really surprised me is since they are from Colombia and are competing with premier groups such Fruko y sus Tesos, Sonora Carruseles and Grupo Gale, I expected more of a powerful and impacting salsa album similar to their production "Salsa al Maximo Volataje" but never the less a good album worthy of recognition. This album is similar to the style of Los Nemus del Pacifico also Colombian but their primary rhythm is Son Montuno. Good album. Don't be afraid to try it.

Just not the same power........2003-11-19

Puerto Rican Power is a great group, however, since there lead singer left them the group doesn't sound the same. Osvaldo Roman the guy who sang such his as "Pena De Amor, Emergencia De Amor, and others" left. The group is now left with three singer none as good. The only ones voice who catches ears is Josue I forgot his last name but he sounds good. The only true salsa songs on the album are number 5 "Doctor", and number 9 "Dile". The rest are new school with the electronic istruments and effects. I hope this is not the end of Luisito Ayala's group becuase they have left an indellable imprint on salsa and this a terrible way to go out.
