Just in case you don't know El Gran Combo is called the University of Salsa for a reason. If you never heard of El Gran Combo, then you have never danced to real Salsa. In their live anniversary CD you hear their old and new stuff but you can't tell which is which becuase it's all wonderful. They have lasted this long for a reason, you can sing with them, dance with them, and if you ever get a chance to see them live I implore you to go. You can hear the energy and the love they have for salsa in their live cd. I have played this CD to many and they always ask me who is this, and I just love introducing them for the first time, they all go back to buy 40 years of their Cds. I would recommend you do the same if you don't have a collection already. Actually I would recommend buying all of their anniversary CD's.

Lebron Brothers are in my opinion one of the hottest Salsa bands out there! love their music arrangements, their control, and the "coro" is superb!!.. not to mention the line up, "Pichie" Perez does justice to "Hasta Las Piedras Cantan". Pupy "El Callejero", what can I say, if you don't feel like dancing to this ("Lo Tuyo Llegara") you better check your pulse man! Big props to "Luigi Texidor" with "Agonia", I mean you feel the pain, kinda like "El Imcomprendido" or "Diez Lagrimas" or "Pena Y Dolor" which btw is also in the CD, if you heard you'd know what I mean.. The rest of the lineup is top gun, Frankie Vasquez, Primi Cruz, Jr. Gonzales, Angel and Pablo Lebron, all songs are hot!!!.. I love this CD so much I could be in bumper to bumper traffic and feel like I just won the lotto!!

Great--but can't compare to the original studio versions........2003-09-27

This historic 2-CD set pays tribute to one of Puerto Rico's most respected and beloved bandleaders. Olivencia's band can still play and swing hard and singers Sammy Gonzalez, Simon Perez, Paquito Guzman, Viti Ruiz, Marvin Santiago and Hector Tricoche all add plenty of vocal magic with their improvisations. Unfortunately, this band's two most famous singers (Frankie Ruiz and Chamaco Ramirez) have both passed away and it's difficult to imagine their songs successfully covered by others (although Perez' renditions of the classics "Plante Bandera", "Doroteo" and "Evelio Y La Rumba" are very faithful-to-the-originals ones). Great Salsa from one of Puerto Rico's greatest bands but these "Live" versions can't really compare to the originals.

Is very sad to listen the songs of the inmortal Chamaco Ramirez
performed by Simon Perez. He also never gives credit to the great one( Chamaco).

I heard all this album and I just said: they did it again!
With this album, the duo celebrated it's 40th anniversary, "Live", with a top ranked orchestra (julito Alvarado, Luis García, Edwin Clemente, Georgie Padilla and others).
If you buy this album you will hear other artists on scene like Bobby Valentin, Papo Luca, Jhonny Pacheco, Alex D'Castro, Charlie Cruz, Luisito Carrión, Luisito Marin, Miki Vimari, Sanabria brothers, etc.
It was recorded "live" in Puerto Rico and Richie Ray play songs of all his career, like "traigo de todo", "amparo arrebato", "cristobal celai", "bomba camará" and many others. He also bring us new songs, like Son cien (a Jhonny Pacheco's composition), Doña Catalina, etc. Enjoy it.
