Since his ascendance as an international Latin pop star in 1971 with "No Tengo Dinero," Juan Gabriel (born Alberto Aguilera Valadez) has used his songs to define the contemporary sentiments and concerns of Latinos around the world. With simple, to-the-point themes and truths, Abrazame Muy Fuerte takes him back to the days when he ruled Spanish-language pop with inspiring poetics. The beats and sonic atmosphere are contemporary on songs like "A Mí Me Gusta Soñar," which grooves with a mellow funk vibe and cool background singers who accent his lyrics and delivery. You won't find rancheras or other traditional Mexican styles on this album, but in spite of the modern mood, Gabriel's insatiable romanticism pours out on his balada duo with Tamara on "El Amor de Nosotros." Dance-happy auras permeate tunes like "Padre, Dame Tu Consejo," "Catalina," "He Me Aqui," and others. With the emotional quiver of his voice intact, Juan Gabriel scores again with a pop masterpiece perfect for the new millennium summer. --Jesse "Chuy" Varela

5 out of 5 stars Similar to Todo Esta Bien cd.......2003-01-22

He does it again. No wonder he is the most influetnial prolific latin american music composer. This album is on the same path as todo esta bien but with lyrics not as weird(luna llena). The music is great and it features arrangements by top contemporary arrangers like silvetti among others. He was wise enough to leave the arrangement for "abrazame muy fuerte" track to the maestro Maguellanes. That is the most powerful track. Its ending is as powerful as the lyrics in that it is about time is too short hence abrazame. Again, a lot of fusion in the songs as in his previus cd Todo Esta Bien. BUY IT.

5 out of 5 stars request for lyrics.......2001-11-08

I have listen to this song many times, and I don't get tired of listening to it. I'm a big fan of Juan Gabriel. I think he is one of the best singers in latin music. I'll be very glad if you could please send me over the lyrics of this song to my e-mail address. I'll apreciated very much and so that I can also buy this song for friends in the future. I look forward to my reply soon. Thank you in advance.

4 out of 5 stars A different kind of Juan Gabriel.......2001-04-03

It took several "listens" for me to appreciate this CD. It doesn't match up to the Juan Gabriel of the live performances at the Palacio de Bellas Artes; the energy just isn't there. The backup vocals are fantastic, and the arrangements are catchy. And Gabriel tells some delightfully mushy secrets in "Estos son recuerdos." No, this isn't the Gabriel of "Celebrando 25 Años . . ." It is nonetheless a Gabriel that once again pulls the listener into his world.

5 out of 5 stars Juan Gabriel's FINEST.......2001-01-15

What else can I say? I've said it already This is Juan's finest workever. I own it made a copy of it and have it in every room with aCDplayer, this cd is a must get. Plus, with... great prices, you getthe best of everything. Why are you still reading this, order it!

3 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings, but worth having for two specific tracks..........2003-03-01

This novela introduced me to the extremely talented (and equally gorgeous) Pablo Montero and this CD is worth having first for an introduction to his core style and specifically for "Cruz de Olvido" which is not on any of his 5 CDs (ALL of which I highly recommend). This song is the apotheosis of the pain of love and loss, and Pablo makes you feel the pain with him when you listen to this incredible song. No other singer conveys these emotions better than he.

The title track is a thing of sheer beauty and could only have been made better by Pablo singing it (though Juan Gabriel's performance is noteworthy). I will leave it to the guys to comment on Aracely Arambula.
