On this CD the Church's acoustic versions of their many hits and lesser known songs are impeccably performed. The Church's esoteric and dynamic lead vocalist, Steve Kilbey, is in remarkable form on every song. The entire band really jams with vintage virtuoisity. The Church has been and continues to be one of the greatest bands on the planet. Their vocals and music are elaborate and they frequently sound superior to RadioHead, Coldplay, U2 and Simple minds. Steve KIlbey is not only a supreme singer, he is also a poet, an artist, a spiritual sage, a painter and a diehard philosophical vegetarian.

Though billed as acoustic, the Church are far too experimental to just sit in front of the mikes and see what happens; rather, they paint flange on key cymbal crashes, insert the occasional vocal effect, and rearrange the songs to fit the new format with mesmerizing results. This is an acoustic treasure of wonderful songs by The Church, the world's most unheralded supergroup. Their shimmering musical sounds mixed with Steve Kilbey's detached but vintage vocals always combine to create dynamic songs. Every song on this CD is remarkable including "Unguarded Momemt", "Chromium", "All I Know" and "Till The Cows Come Home". Any fan of Pink Floyd, The Byrds or Radiohead must purchase some Church Cds. The best are "Uninvited Like The Clouds", "After Everything Now This", "Priest=Aura" and "Sometime Aywhere". "El Momento Descuidado" belongs on the list too. Steve Kilbey also has made some incredible solo CDs.

This Album Kills, Gently.......2006-07-14

Not to get too personal or anything, but I recently gave this to my Mom for her birthday. We went out driving to go to a restaurant and by the end of the night we'd listened to the whole thing. We hadn't spoken to each other for over 5 years and now we talk a couple of times a week. I've been a fan since the mid-80's when Heyday came out, and sure enough my Mom's favorite song here is Tristesse, which is from that album. I think this record is phenomenal. If you are skeptical about them, get this one - they have absolutely nothing to hide behind here. It's all about the songs: the lyrics, spear-headed by Steve Kilbey, one of the most articulate and well-read songwriters of all time (go ahead, laugh at me - I don't care), and oh ya they also happen to be MONSTER guitarists, brought out all the more by their understated, gorgeous, shimmering acoustic work here.

I really like the new versions.......2006-05-26

While I admit that I haven't heard all of the songs compiled here, every one is interesting and changed to dramatic effect. It's a solid piece of work that I enjoy listening to whenever and I prefer the acoustic reworking since it shakes up the seemingly stodgy formatting of the original songs that we all love, but not know far too well. This recording is just complete class to me, that's what I hear when I listen to it. These versions are just so vital to me. Buy it, listen to it, tell me what you think.

The Work of Seasoned Musicians.........2006-02-02

This album is as beautiful in its simplicity as it is in its ability to conjure the old-friend feeling of all of the classic and newer Church songs featured herein. I highly recommend this disc. It is absolutely delightful, although it helps to be familiar with some of the original versions, so that one has a frame of reference as to the stripped-down direction the band took this time around.
The only regret here is that there weren't but a few songs from After Everything, Now This. A minor complaint, and perhaps trite, but I suppose it also leaves room for other songs from the catalog. Bottom line: The Church has released a shining gem into the otherwise cookie-cutter "music" mainstream masses. Luckily hardly anyone I talk to has heard of this band. This album is definitely one big point in the plus column! This, people,is what music sounds like when it's the work of seasoned musicians. Sonic genius.

Old Tunes New Spin.......2005-11-17

An excellent effort to bring new light to some of these classic old Church tunes. I've been a fan since the mid 80's and have no problem giving this four stars so I think any fan will find this cd worth owning. I agree that newcomers may not "get it" so beware. The opening of "The Unguarded Moment" (also the cd title in Spanish) is so perfect and it sets the tone for the rest of the cd. That is a 25 year old song and it sounds as fresh as anything the Church have done in recent years. I never did like "Metropolis" until I heard it here. My favorite track on here is "Tristesse." The original version is perfect, but MWP does something to this song on here to really make it special. It may sound like a Bob Dylan impression, but I think it rocks. This 2005 release was my 1st and belated musical encounter with Vicente Amigo. What comes to mind is what Segovia proclaimed of Williams, "a prince of the [flamenco] guitar has arrived [where Paco de Lucía has reigned]." Amigo's music in this CD is electrifying, complex, and sublimely lyrical, while his guitar technique defies human limits--a smorgasbord of new falsetas, rich counterbeats, picado, alzapúa... Flawless rasgueados in crescendo suddenly awaken you like you just had a double shot of espresso, only to find yourself soothed by hypnotizing arpeggios in the next few measures. There is an interesting fusion of sounds at times--drums in Track 1, and bandoneón in several others. You will need to be in an occasional contemplative mood to appreciate Track 9. Track 5 and especially its bonus version Track 10 can be used to unwind while you sip down on Tempranillo.

Essential edition for opera lovers.......2005-02-01

This set gives you the opportunity to follow the entire recording career of one of the greatest singers in Operatic History. Enrico Caruso was the first superstar of the 20th century -- and this without the benefit of mass media. His person and his records were his greatest publicity.

The set begins with Caruso's Italian made recordings. They show a great raw talent. The artistry is lacking with many sobs, over acting and mistaken cues. The 1902 and 1903 clearly show a tenor with a lot to learn. But learn it he did. His 1904 sessions show a mature artist on par with any heard since. His voice matures before your very ears and by 1910, you wonder if you will ever listen to any other tenor the same way again.

The engineering used for this set is wonderful. There is no attempt at all to use the soundstream process of computer sound enhancement as heard on the RCA issued sets. These are near perfect mint conditioned discs copied by engineer extraordinary Ward Marston. They sound like natural 78s, they way Caruso himself must have heard the playbacks at the (RCA) Victor studios.

Also included are outtakes and extra takes. There is a "Celeste Aida" from 1908, complete with a broken high note, previously released by RCA in a 1973 set commemorating the tenor's centenary birthday. But there are new treasures here as well, including extra takes of two of Caruso's greatest recordings, the Italian song "L'Alba separa dalla l'uce ombra" and an aria from Rubinestine's Nerone. Listening to them, one wonders what Caruso could have possible thought inadquate in those long lost altenative takes.

Finally, there is the simple joy of hearing so many things so well sung. Caruso was the pinnacle of the tenor art. He can be compared to no other single tenor since ... he has the brilliant ring of Bjorling, the passion of Gigli, the beauty of Gedda, the youthful enthusiasm of Lanza, the warm tonal quality of Tucker, the pure strength of Corelli, the charasma of Pavarotti and the artestry of Domingo.

Whether you are an opera fan, a voice fan or just a music lover. This set is worth every penny.

Esta es una reedición (2004) que hacía mucha falta. Aunque puedes encontrar todas las canciones de este disco en otras colecciones, no hay como escucharlas en el orden original...

Este es un excelente disco!! Las composiciones de Nacho (Vistete, Asustado Estoy, Quien Soy, Lagrimas al Suelo, Si Esto Fuera Amor) y Antonio (No se Acaban las Calles, Desordenada Habitación, Persiguiendo Sombras, Lucha de Gigantes, Puertas Abiertas) son de estilos diferentes, pero se conjugan perfecto en este disco. Lucha de Gigantes es probablemente la canción más memorable y que ha perdurado de este disco, pero ciertamente el resto es excelente. Puertas Abiertas la considero la mejor canción de cumpleaños.

Este es uno de esos discos que puedes escuchar de principio a fin sin brincarte canciones.

De hecho Nacho García Vega y Antonio Vega son primos, no hermanos como se menciona en otro comentario. El Momento se edita originalmente en 1987, mientras que Dibujos Animados vé la luz en 1985. El disco 80/88 sale (naturalmente) en 1988 pero no trae nada nuevo, haciendo que El Momento sea el último esfuerzo creativo de Nacha Pop.

Hay mejores.......2005-05-20

Considero a nacha pop como uno de los mejores grupos pop de habla hispana. Las guitarras de los hermanos vega son limpias, armoniosas y aun con bastante fuerza. Es una lastima que este haya sido el ultimo de sus creaciones, hubiera sido interesante ver su evolucion despues de los ochentas.

Le pongo 4 estrellas solamente por dos canciones, excelentes ambas: persiguiendo sombras y asustado estoy. El resto del disco es equis, ni fu ni fa.

Si estas interesado en lo mejor de nacha pop te recomiendo mucho mas dibujos animados de 1995 o bien, su album en directo 80-88.

Italian Soprano Renata Tebaldi was One of the Most Important Post-war Sopranos to Tackle a Wide Range of Puccini Roles, and During the 1950s She Recorded Several Complete Opera Recordings. Some of the Operas were Recorded Twice — in Mono and Then in Stereo. Amongst Those which Tebaldi Committed to Disc in the Recording Studio on Two Occasions Must Be Included La Bohème and Madama Butterfly. It is the Earlier, Mono Recordings of These Two Operas which Are Included Here and They Reveal a Fresh-voiced Tebaldi in Recordings Which, Despite the Stereo Remakes, have Stood the Test of Time.

Excellent introduction to Tebaldi's art.......2005-09-29

This set covers the entire productive years of Tebaldi's recording career. Turandot, Butterfly and Boheme are from her earlier career while Tosca is from her later career. Since this Tosca recording is now out of print and is somewhat hard to find, this recording itself almost worth the cost of the set. In Turandot, you will find Tebaldi at her fresher voice, lovely and melting. Eventhough I would still rate Callas' first recorded Tosca as my first choice, this Tosca comes very close. Enjoy.

To say that these 12 disks contain some of the finest singing ever committed to disk is no exaggeration, but a simple statement of fact. Historical fact. In the 100 years (more or less) that Puccini operas have been around, only a few sopranos in each generation have been the equal of Renata Tebaldi. One cannot objectively say that anyone has surpassed her. Some opera lovers find her peerless in many of these performances. Personal tastes in singers vary, but no one ever sang these roles better. Few anywhere nearly so well. There is not a single note on any of these recordings that is not heartfelt to the core of her being. Like Maria Callas and Franco Corelli, she was luminous, gargantuan in her talent that personified an age. This is one of the great compilations.

A revelation.......2006-03-27

Like the other reviewers, I am absolutely enthralled with this album. As a longtime fan of The Church, I find that the acoustic format suits the band beautifully. Steve Kilbey's voice is as hypnotic as ever, and the stellar musicianship we have come to expect is there in spades. Of the new songs, my favorite is "0408," which calls to mind Robyn Hitchcock in some of his best acoustic moments. One gets the sense that if/when the band releases a "plugged-in" version of this song, it will soar to even greater heights. All in all, a fantastic collection of songs that could only have been made by a band that has been stoking their creative fire and exploring intricate musical avenues for more than 25 years. Highly, highly recommended for loyal fans and newcomers alike!

The Church Eternal.......2005-06-19

I discovered The Church over 20 years ago, little knowing that one day my following of a treasured sound from Australia would also become my son's obsession. How many bands can inspire fans spanning generations from 60 to 30? Obviously the benefit of this dual interest is that we both can keep each other informed of new releases, and that is how I learned of El Momento Descuidado. We each have every Church release, and this latest is just as great as their first album. I cannot add to the incredibly informed review below, except to say, if you're a Church fan, buy this album. It does not disappoint, and is magical. Kudos to 20 years of consistent musical craftsmanship and dedication to their fans.

Old songs in a new light, and new songs too.......2004-12-14

El Momento Descuidado sees The Church take a slightly unexpected turn. Over twenty years and many albums into their career, they've sprung upon the unsuspecting world an acoustic album of such splendour that it's hard to believe it was recorded live in just a few days.

What we have here is an album that sees the band re-visiting and re-working some of the gems from their back catalogue; and throwing in some new songs that sit more than comfortably with the old ones.

All I Know stands out among the new songs as a Church classic. The re-working of The Unguarded Moment will surprise. A New Season brings a whole new life to the song. Invisible shines. The acoustic arrangements let Steve Kilbey's voice shine through - except on the tracks where other band members take over the vocal duties!- and in all the albums they've made he's rarely sounded this good.

If you like anything that The Church have ever done then this CD is an essential purchase.

Breathtaking.......2007-06-27

Caruso's performances are purely breathtaking. This set does not attempt to over-process the sound as some do. All the 78 RPM noise gets through and so does all the music. This is the way these recordings should be heard. Was Caruso's voice really that fantastic or is it just that the recording process of the day was perfectly suitable to his voice? It doesn't matter - what you will hear on each and every track is Caruso giving everything he's got. There will never be another like him, and there's no better way to get his material on CD than this series. The only thing you could do beter is get the original 78's.
