Coming out of Cuba and first heard there in the early 90's, the new style of music and dancing now known as Timba is the most significant development to classic salsa since the early 70's. It fuses salsa with hip-hop, adding reggae and jazz (among others!) into a Caribbean based stew that becomes a new way of looking at salsa. 14 tracks from various artists. 2002.

The Best Yet.......2006-07-31

I think "Descarga en California" is Rebeca's best solo effort to date. It's awesome! I have all of her CDs, but this one stays in my CD player on a regular basis since it was released. To be honest I'm not usually much of a Latin jazz fan, although I am drawn to her music. I'm much more of a timba fan day to day. However, the compositions and the quality of the musical work on "Descarga..." is one of the bests I've ever heard. I especially like the drums and timbales on "Suena tu timbal", Serenata rítmica", and "Califas".

To bad I couldn't make it to Yoshi's for the release performance. It was just a bit far from northern VA. I hope she keeps up the great work. I can hardly wait for the next CD.

Manolin I think is the best cuban singer in the whole world. I was a fan of him since back when i was in cuba and i think his music is just great.His music is inspiring to all cubans around the world as he says in one of his songs"que le llegue mi mano". I think he is reaaly el rey as he says in his songs and if you want to hear great cuban music this is a great example of it.A la Batalla.
