If you've got a weak heart, steer clear of Osdalgia. When she flings herself into a breakneck timbia, she could send your pulse into overdrive. On slow filin selections like the slick and soulful "Corazon Rebelde," she may just melt your valves. Havana-born Osdalgia languished in Cuban girl groups until she caught the ear of Jose Luis Cortes, director of the "new generation" big band NG La Banda. That power outfit's brass and rhythm sections kick into sprocket-slipping high gear seconds after the disc opens with a rewrite of the guaguanco classic "Asi es la humanidad." Her confidence as a performer dabbling in everything from jazz vocal to rap matches her chutzpah as a composer. Her own songs share space with standards penned by Beny More, Ernesto Duarte, and other legends. But don't expect modernists Osdalgia and Cortes to let the dust settle on the golden oldies. Cha-cha-cha chestnut "Donde estabas tu?" gets a son injection and a coda from J.S. Bach, the title cut shakes Obdulio Morales' Afro-Cuban classic into Richter scale territory, and More's "Dolor y Perdon" slips off its bolero origins and glides into a funky orchestral arrangement capped by the diva's silver pipes. --Bob Tarte

A Must for latin music lovers.......2001-07-30

This is the first album I've heard from Osdalgia and it's great. I love sad-romantic songs, a little depressive, and this album is a lot like that. She's got a great voice for this kind of singing and she can make you feel whatever she wants with her songs...

The rithms in the album are very good and very authentic... and this is not too common these days! I like her "son cubano" and the fact that you can feel she's expressing something with her music.

Personaly, I think it's a Must Have for latin music lovers.
