Perales is a new discovery for me. I had no idea he existed, but I am totally in love with his music. It is beautiful poetry and he executes it so well... Even my non-English speaking friends comment on the romantic nature of his lyrics.

I was pleasantly surprised to hear Perales in this new CD. His voice is as warm and expresive as ever, his compositions are full of feeling and his poetry delicate and tender. I hightly recommend it to old fans and new ones!!!

I agree with the previous review. Perales did make a radical change in the arrangements he chose for his new cd by working with the talented Javier Limon, but as I told myself when I heard this cd, "esto es mas Perales que Limon." You will still find the very medolic style of J.L Perales and his beautiful poetry, but this time it will be mixed with the fresh sounds of J. Limon.

Perales is an immensely prolific composer, having catalogued over 450 songs over his 32-year career as a singer/songwriter. Yet his productivity is only surpassed by his gift of composing incredibly profound poems, all of which he later envelopes with lovely melodies.

Anyone who has followed his trajectory since 1974, when he released his first album, knows too well that Perales' career has spanned three distinct epochs. In the 1970s, a socially-conscious Perales challenged the materialism and social hierarchy of his day via gems such as "El Labrador" and "Ecos de Sociedad." Later, when his pouplarity peaked in the 1980s, he became somewhat more commercial with his love songs, such as "El Amor" and "Cuando Vuelvas." Today, he has evolved into an artist who no longer needs to sell his music; rather, he is much more interested in perfecting his craft as a composer. As he admits on his official web site, he hopes that his best song is the one that he has yet to compose.

This jazzy-tinged album is a musical gem, yet a radical departure stylistically from past efforts. Perales has opted to let the music speak for itself by selecting exceptional musicians and only a few musical instruments. Along with the jazz-flavored arrangements, you'll be treated to flamenco guitars and some surprising basso nova stylings.

"Como Llenar Mi Tiempo" is a beautiful tribute to his wife, wherein he admits to her that, in her absence, he is incomplete. "Lo Que Fue De Los Dos" is a tragic recount of a long-term marriage, in which both spouses have been severed by the passing of time and the loss of passion. In "Una Cancion Para La Paz," Perales returns to one of his recurring themes: the quest for peace and reconciliation. In this composition, he is joined by a Brazilian choir, a first for this seasoned artist.

There is so much to be said about this terrific collection, yet I am limited by space. If you are a fan of soothing arrangements, poignant poetry, and melodious songs, this album is for you.

Perales as Poetry.......2006-09-25

I have just bought this item and once again, I am very impressed with the quality of the recording and the wonderful sounds of Perales' voice. For me, Spanish is not a native language although my grandparents were Spanish. But Perales, like many other Spanish musicians, makes his work so poetic that it could be read as well as sung. "Love, 'tis a drop of water in a glass" for just one example. I enjoy this album very much

Best songs!.......2006-08-22

Yup, here's the one. The best songs of Jose Luis Perales in two CDs. I must tell he's one of the best spanish singer/songwritters. I rememeber that my father used to play his songs in the morning, and I woke up listening to these marvelous compositions. The music came form an old cassete player, but the magic was there.

JLP speaks about love without the cheesiness we fit today in most "love songs" This is poetry, and you can feel he's singing from the very heart. His lyrics are simple but memorable and touching. I would to translate some of the verses of "EL amor"

El amor es parar el tiempo en un reloj
es buscar un lugar donde escuchar tu voz
El amor es crear un mundo entre los dos
es perdonarme tú y comprenderte yo

Love is like freezing the time on a clock.
Finding a place where I can hear your voice, that is love.
Creating a new world just for us, that is love.
To forgive me and to understand you, that is love.

Me encanta Perales como compositor y por esto compre este disco pero los nuevos arreglos de sus exitos son basicos y malos. Su primera cancion "Porque te vas" no tiene casi instrumentos y pues a decir verdad su voz no es que sea de las mas bonitas, Parecia mi abuelito cantando. Adoro a Perales pero esta recopilacion es una perdedera de dinero.

the only thing i could possibly say about jose luis perales is that he is the best sonwriter/singer ever!
and if you have ever been in love and not listened to this master of love songs then you don't have the slightest idea of what you've been missing!

J.L.P is awesome for the people who understands spanish(like myself) but even persons that don't, can feel the power within his voice and his lyrics...

i would recommend(not only this cd)but ALL of them...perhaps it's just my musical taste but i really do think that you guys should listen at least to 1 song to see if you like it or not...i recommend "cancion de otoño"...which is obviously my favorite song...

I had this as a casette tape 20 years ago when I was living in Mexico. It was one of a small collection and I played it a lot. It's beautiful and I'm happy to have found it again after searching the web. I'm happy it will soon be mine again. His singing goes straight to your heart. Every song is beautiful and even after 20 years I remember how much I enjoyed this music. It's romantic in a sincere, true way.
