Customer Reviews:
I'm not a reviewer, just an old Deep Purple fan!.......2007-01-19
I've had this album since I was about 16 years old, and I finally bought this CD. This is a great CD! I especially like No No No!, Anyone's Daughter, and No One Came. If you're a Deep Purple fan and you're looking for some great classic hard rock, this is not to be missed. Deep Purple really mixes up there songs on this one, sort of an experiment, I guess. Great vocals by Gillan, great guitar riffs by Blackmore, and great organ and piano by Jon Lord. I think that's what really set Deep Purple apart back in the late 60's and 70's. If you're new to Deep Purple, and you already have Made in Japan and Machine Head, you should get this one next!

Strange Kind Of World; another forgotten masterpiece!.......2006-10-16
This Deep Purple album is a hard rock masterpiece and what makes it even better, you don`t get that "classic rock radio" burnt out feeling. It's a shame that Fireball has been forgotten about over the years, and yet, like the Rolling Stones UK "Between The Buttons," it's all fresh because you haven't heard the songs to death. So if you're just starting to obtain Deep Purple albums, this one is essential. One of the great rock albums of 1971.
Highlights: No, No, No, Anyone's Daughter, Fools and Strange Kind Of Woman (a single released around the time of the album).
Better then machine head? Heck yes.......2006-08-01
This album is great from the amazing song fire ball all the way through this album packs a punch and is one of the great hard rock/metel albums of all time. Personally I like better then machine head it's more diverse more full and not so over produced and over played but all the same deep are metel gods and any of there music is not to be missed especially this.
Deep Purple at its clasic best........2006-02-22
This cd was a earful when it first came out and it hasnt given up any to todays rock. If you like classic rock at its best, this cd will be no letdown.
Progressive Hard Rock.......2005-11-22
If you like Deep Purple but don't own Fireball, you are in for a real treat. This album is a hard rock masterpiece and Ian Gillan would totally agree with me. It's a shame that Fireball has been kind of forgotten about, it clearly holds up against In Rock and Machine Head. One nice thing about this album is, besides the great material, you won't be sick of ANY of the songs, because "classic rock" radio ignores this great stuff, just blows me away.
Anyhow, if you're just starting to collect their albums, maybe you already have Machine Head, this one won't disappoint. One of the great hard rock albums of the seventies.
Highlights: Fireball, Strange Kind of Woman, Anyone's Daughter, Fools and No One Came.

Amazon.com essential recording
XTC created the Dukes of Stratosphear almost on a lark, as an excuse to play the kind of music they grew up listening to and playing. The invention of the pseudonym gave them the opportunity to wear on their sleeves the influences they had only hinted at as XTC. The Dukes released two records between 1985 and 1987 and they are both compiled in their entirety on Chips from the Chocolate Fireball. Listening to Chips is like sifting through a '60s psychedelia bin at a good used record store. The only thing missing are the pops and crackles as you drop the needle onto the neglected vinyl. The best of the era is re-created here with reverence and an amazing attention to detail: Syd Barrett's childlike lyrics, the Blue Cheer fuzz-guitar frenzy, dissonant Sgt. Pepper strings and horns, and good old Brian Wilson-style indulgences.
The record opens with "25 O'Clock," which instantly recalls the Electric Prunes' "I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night." From there the references become more obscure: the Count Five's "Psychotic Reaction" is invoked by the bombastic guitar sludge of Sir John Johns (Andy Partridge) and Lord Cornelius Plum (Dave Gregory) on "My Love Explodes," while "Bike Ride to the Moon" is demented enough to have appeared on Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Other high points include the Hollies-inspired "Vanishing Girl" and the Beatles-style piano stomp "You're a Good Man Albert Brown." The record closes with the priceless "Pale and Precious." With its dead-on Wilson brothers harmonies and faux theremin, the song plays like an undiscovered gem from the Beach Boys' Smile sessions. --Paul Ducey

Customer Reviews:
Brilliant tribute to psychedelic music.......2007-06-20
This is worth it just for "Mole From The Ministry". The whole album pays a loving tribute to the best of 60's psychedelic music without mocking it. One of XTC's best albums.
Love the Beatles, XTC and Britpop? You'll love this!.......2007-04-24
if you like britpop, the beatles and/or xtc, this is a clever and fun collection of the entire Dukes library, the alter ego of XTC, in homage to the Beatles.
some of the tunes are just so well done, and the hooks so well crafted that you'll find this is an enjoyable revisit, year after year. you are unlikely to sell this one used.
just simply fun, and much more creative and loyal to the sound of the Beatles than anyone else has done.
Phun, Phun , Phun.......2007-03-17
This recording by the Dukes, aka XTC, is just plain fun and entertaining. The problem with a lot of the music from the psychedelic era was that while they may have included the prerequisite sound effects or drug themes, the tunes themselves were just plain stupid. XTC's strong suit has always been clever songwriting and knowing not to take themselves too seriously. The playing on this collection is great. The bombastic drums, guitars and terrific vocals put to shame most of what passes for rock music today, and these guys were just screwing around for the fun of it. Even though this was a fun recording as homage to the psychedelic peroid, it still contains all that fans of XTC have come to expect from their work: clever wordplay in the lyrics, great musicianship and pristine production. They even have a few special effects here and there that would have made the best of sixties psychedelia (Beatles, Pink Floyd) proud.
Not Quite The Beatles or Pink Floyd, but...........2007-03-10
The record starts off with a cheezy tribute to Pink Floyd, that I think is worthy of Spinal Tap. I still don't know if this was serious, or tongue-in-cheek. While this album will never be my favorite, I am liking it more with each play. "Vanishing Girl" is the one tune that really stands out. If you are new to XTC, I would hold off on buying this CD and go for "English Settlement" or "Skylarking".
Glean from the Peppermint Ice Cube.......2006-10-30
As funny as it is beautiful.
And its really really...both.

Fireball Deep Purple.......2006-11-16
This album was one of my favorites when it first came out especially the intro of fireball and the song Fools this is when Deep Purple in my opinion were at their best before Blackmore quit the band, I allways admired their tight sound one of the best bands that ever existed and the extras songs Man! what a treat!
Progressive Hard Rock.......2005-11-22
If you like Deep Purple but don't own Fireball, you are in for a real treat. This album is a hard rock masterpiece and Ian Gillan would totally agree with me. It's a shame that Fireball has been kind of forgotten about, it clearly holds up against In Rock. If you're just starting to collect their albums, maybe you already have Machine Head, this one won't disappoint you. It is one of the great rock albums of the seventies.
The highlights: Fireball, Strange Kind of Woman, Anyone's Daughter, Fools, No One Came, Demon's Eye, I'm Alone and Freedom.
PS: Check out their 2005 album, Rapture of the Deep. It holds up well. I would say it is right up there with their classic material.
Deep Purple's finest hour.......2005-06-23
Fireball (1971.) Deep Purple's fifth album.
When a band switches lead singers, it can mean one of two things - the band will either go forward into a new golden age with unparalleled successes, or they will be forever damaged, and many of their fans will desert them. Deep Purple is fortunate enough to be one of the bands that falls into the former category. With their Deep Purple In Rock album, the band established that they could get along just fine without Rod Evans. And not long after the release of that album, the follow-up arrived. Read on for my review of 1971's Fireball.
Fireball is the ultimate Deep Purple album. Some fans may bed to differ, but this is where my loyalties lie. The title track kicks off the album. This straight-up, fact-pased classic metal at its finest. The lyrics are top-notch, and the keyboard solo is great. The second track, No No No, is NOT the same song Def Leppard would record ten years later on their High 'N' Dry album - this is a seventies pop-rock tune done the way seventies pop-rock was meant to be heard. Once again, the keyboards are great. The most irregular song on the album is Anyone's Daughter, which sounds like a cross between Bob Dylan, David Bowie, and Lou Reed. Surprisingly, this manages to be a pretty good song, assuming Deep Purple doesn't nomally do songs of this style. Next up we have The Mule. This is a classic hard rocker, simiar to I'm So Glad, a song the band covered on their first album. Once again, it's a great song. Fools is a slower-paced track, but it's no less heavy than the other ones. And, of course, the band closes the album out with No One Came, a rocker that's the perfect fusion of sixties and seventies rock styles alike. All in all, this is one hell of album.
The original American pressing of this album featured the track Strange Kind Of Woman, while the original British pressing featured the track Demon's Eye. You're ordering the American version here on Amazon, so you'll get the former track (but don't despair! BOTH of these tracks are available on Rhino's The Best Of Deep Purple, so regardless of what edition you buy, you can get the other track on that compilation.) Another edition of the album available is the anniversary editon, which features BOTH of the tracks mentioned above, as well as a whole second disc of bonus material! If you're a Deep Purple die-hard, you may want to shell out the extra money and get the anniversary edition. But regardless which one of the many editions you purchase, this is an excellent album.
All in all, Fireball is a classic rock masterpiece. No classic rock collection is complete without this masterpiece of an album, which is by far Deep Purple's finest effort, in my book. If you don't own it, what are you waiting for?

"The Broken" is wonderful, and many of the other.......2007-01-22
songs are nearly as good. I'd give it five stars (and make them one of my favorite bands) if they could find sixth gear - really great bands always manage to go a little bit further than seems possible, just when you think they're going all out.
Sabbath-lite.......2006-09-15
Lots of SABBATH worship here - bluesy, swaggering 70s rock with thick, crunchy riffs, and a singer who sounds a hell of a lot like Ozzy at times. Nothing that references some of Sabbath's more expansive, progressive tracks, though - these are all more compact, straightforward pieces. It'd be nice to see them stretch a bit more.
Their Rock Does Not Rock.......2006-09-09
I really liked this band after picking up Second Great Awakening. This is like SGA on Prozac. The songs sound almost identical to SGA but they don't go anywhere and drag and drag. I've tried with this CD but end up yanking it out after the third song or so in frustration. Some of it is just painful. Whoever produced this album let the band sleep walk through the recording. Literally, it sounds like the band is sleepy. If you haven't heard Second Great Awakening, please do, and this album will pale in comparison.
A mediocre snoozefest.......2006-06-08
One would think that a band with a couple years of performing experience and a few albums to its credit would be able to come up with at least one interesting riff if given 10 chances in the course of 45 minutes, but Fireball Ministry doesn't. I'm not sure this is songs so much as it is a collection of chords put together in the most boring midtempo fashion imaginable. A couple songs sound like they might be on to something, but fall apart within a minute or so after you realize that the payoff in the form of a catchy riff doesn't come. In short, yet another modern band that can't write songs -- and part of a genre I like to call "riff rock without riffs."
About the best I can say for this band is that their hearts are in the right place (heck, I'd probably dig this if they had anything to say musically) and that the cover is very cool.
If you want a modern band worth hearing, check out the Sword (Age of Winters), Iron Man (Generation Void), Trouble, Earthride, Internal Void, Corrosion of Conformity, or even Fireball Ministry's labelmates, Nebula.
Old school metal in the 21st century.......2006-03-23
Nice to hear old school metal in a fresh format. This album rocks! If you like Dio, Priest, Sabbath, etc, you'll like this album. No hair bands here, just straight-up metal. My personal favs on this album: It flies again, Sundown, In the end, and Under the Thunder. Note, the 2nd CD listed on this page is a mix CD with multiple bands on the Liquor and Poker label. Nice mix with bands I've never heard of other than Fireball Ministry, nice addition to the CD purchase. I agree, probably Top 5 best metal albums of 2005/2006. BTW - Saw them open for Dio a few years back, kicka-- show.

A Period Of Creative High For Ric Ocasek.......2005-05-05
The early 90's was a very creative time-period for Ric Ocasek. Where 1986's This Side Of Paradise (5 years earlier) faired well for him, it was easy to consider it only Ocasek in name since it was really more or less an extension of The Cars earlier work.
Fireball Zone is proof of Ocasek's viability in a post Cars setting. Wisely utilizing David Bowie's Let's Dance producer (and former Chic member) Nile Rodgers, Fireball Zone was one of the best releases of 1991. The tall, thin ex-Cars frontman certainly deserves credit with his trendy borderline - scientific musical expertise. Ric certainly holds his own without reliance upon his old Cars-sound though at the same time, draws from a variety of influences ranging from adult-contemporary to reggae to hard rock.
If anything negative could be said Fireball Zone, it's that it slows down after the first 8 tracks of the album is through, but regardless, it represents a height for Ocasek that would only slightly decline with 1993's Quick Change World.
Not Bad, Not Great.......2005-01-19
This album really isn't that bad, there's several really good songs on here but songs like "Over and Over" make this a really boring cd. If you like The Cars, there's a chance you'll like this so it's worth it in that case, but The Cars albums are much better than this.
It doesn't match what the cars used to do.......2003-12-09
I liked the cars' material alot, anyone who
picks up their GREATEST HITS cd can easily
agree,i even liked DOOR TO DOOR
and some of ric ocasek's songs on his solo albums
but no matter how many times i listened to this
cd not a single song could create an emotion
like his other great compositions.
The magic of the cars cannot be
found at all on this cd.
Not a bad CD, but not great........2003-11-09
If you are a hardcore Cars fan, then pick this one up (if you can find it). I wasn't overly impressed but there are bright spots. "The Way You Look Tonight" was a minor radio hit, and is a very pretty song.
Not his best but worth getting.......2003-09-20
The first five songs on this album are totally solid... it goes downhill rapidly from there, but I would still say this is an underrated album and a must-buy for any Cars/Ocasek fan.

Customer Reviews:
Two tracks I really like.......2007-07-21
The Mission Impossible theme is performed well.
The Fireball theme is actually much improved on this version. I prefer the orchestra and the vocals over the original.
Quantity Over Quality.......2007-01-15
As a musician myself, I know too well that one of the most important ingredients in ANY performance (live or recorded) is passion. The recordings here generally lack the same passion and sheer drama of the originals. Much of the instrumentation has been reduced to a cheezy, thin, plastic synthesized replica. The performances are simply a watered-down lackluster version of the classic originals. If it were not for the sheer volume of tracks compiled here, I would have rated the comp only "one star".
Mediocre.......2006-05-17
The sound quality for this collection isn't much better than the samples offered by Amazon.
One Hundred Greatest TV Themes.......2005-08-06
I have watched almost all the shows that are on these 4 cd's. Many were made before I started watching TV. Most I've seen once or twice before.
Pretty close to original recordings.......2005-07-24
Definitely not as good as the originals. You'll probably notice the slight differences since it's stuff you saw and listened to every week or everyday in reruns growing up, but it's still an amazing collection.

Album Description
The members of hard rock trio Fireball Ministry - E. Burton, J. Rota, and H. Storer - christened themselves with religious titles (bishop, reverend, and sister, respectively) in keeping with their band name, and issued their debut album, Ou Est La Rock?, in 1999 on Bong Load Records. This is their second release on the Nuclear Blast label. For fans of Fu Manchu and Nebula. 11 tracks. 2003.
Customer Reviews:
Definitely worth picking up.......2006-10-10
I just became aware of the band recently and picked up this album. Honestly, they could pass as a Sabbath cover band pretty easily. The vocals are almost dead-on Ozzy with a bit more of a "grrunt" sound. That being said - they do it extremly well. This album is full of hooks - and that's what won me over. The songs get stuck in your head. Definitely worth picking up.
COULD HAVE BEEN A CLASSIC SABBATH ALBUM.......2006-04-28
I ordered this album online after getting the recommendation, and listing to some of the online sample tracks. The riffs, and particularly, the vocals are eerily reminiscant of classic Ozzy Sabbath, fitting between the "Technical Ecstasy" and "Never Say Die" releases, and actually, much better than both. Any fan of classic late-era Ozzy Sabbath and Deep Purple should give this disc a listen.
Gotta have more cowbell!.......2006-01-24
I love this sound!
It is a nice amalgam of Sabbath and early Monster Magnet.
Is it the most origional thing in the world? No.
But it is very good at what it is and it totally fit the
bill for what i wanted to hear.
If you like BLS, or other rather anthemy style metal,
with cool vocals, good hooks and a liberal dose of cowbell
then snap it up!
If you hate bands that sound a little like Sabbath,
Motorhead, or very early Kiss, stay away from this.
Better than Circus of Power, better than Whitchfinder General
and better than the last Ozzy Record :-)
Finally! Rock is alive, and kicking.......2005-12-25
At a time when the great rock bands are starting to show their age, and all the newer bands are caught up in the "Music Industries deathtrap"; a glimmer of light has appeared on the horizon.
If you're looking for the emotional power ballads, and pretty boy front men, go see if Poison has put out another greatest hits album. This isn't for you.
However, if your idea of music is jacking up the volume, and having your teeth blasted down your throat by a band that rocks with a vengeance, welcome home.
I can't remember hearing a new band with such an in your face, solid rock delivery since the earlier days of Motorhead. If you're a serious rock fan, you will not be disappointed.
worth buying.......2005-08-30
The samples given don't do the actual CD justice. Well worth the money.

historically important, too!.......2005-03-05
now, i could go on and on about how the rats are the worlds greatest bar band. how theyve opened for aerosmith, stevie wonder, the rolling stones, kiss, anyone who was REALLY big and came anywhere near new england, they played with them. but this album is a special one. it is THE FIRST RECORDING IN HISTORY to use the aphex aural exciter system. which is now a staple in recording studios worldwide. theyve even made guitar and bass stompboxes out of em (and i have one). cherry river is my favorite on this album. the power in the notes peppi hits is amazing. the cat's guitar work was never better, lenny was flexed his jazz-style rock chops, mickey was dead on in those harmonies on both guitar and vocals. it doesnt get much better.
RAT-ON!!!!.......2004-09-17
Want more on The Good Rats? www.goodrats.com
All cd's available.
I saw the original lineup open for Rick Derringer in 1979, at Susquehanna U. in Selinsgrove, PA--they blew him away. Saw them again at RatStock 1, in 1999. Peppi, son Geno on lead guitar, and son Stephan on drums. Peppi still has one of the greatest voices in rock and roll.
Uncle Rat says "Always blame it on the dead guy."
music fan.......2004-07-13
I am originally from roch.NY where I grew up hearing the rats on WCMF (local radio)and allways loved them.I was lucky to see them live at the Penny arcade in the early 80,s.Then I moved to Buffalo NY.After a few years I noticed thatI didnt hear them anymore-I asked local freinds to find no-one local ever heard of them and local radio was rude to me when I called to request"we dont have it!!!;click!!Finally I got myself pc,looked up info on the rats, hoping to add "tasty" and "ingin joe"to my music list.sad that I cant get the "tasty "album".
Wish I could turn back the clock..........2004-02-22
I heard this band back in 1978, played at shock volume from speakers in someone's dorm window at UCONN right after finals. If that was your room, you gave me an unforgettable musical moment. Reason to Kill, Tasty, and a few others whose titles I never did find out. I have always regretted not buying their LPs. Now even the CDs are unavailable. I have never once heard these guys on radio. WHY? They had kick-ass bravado, technical excellence, great sense of humor, and a cult following that rivalled the Dead heads. Wish I could turn back the clock...
Best the group has to offer........1999-03-15
I first heard the Good Rats and Pepe in the late 70's at a bar. I've been following them ever since. This is the best they have to offer and I wish you'd hurry up and get it in stock. I'd love to add it to my CD collection.

Racity in Blue.......2002-04-02
I used to live in the Rochester NY area, and I had a chance to catch the Good Rats at I believe the Penny Arcade club in mid 80's. I had been given a copy of Ratcity in Blue just before they came to town and I played it to death. I could not believe the musicianship and vocal arrangements this band offered. They were unreal. These guys could play! It was one of those Peppi Birthday things and they rocked. I immediately got hooked on their stuff, both familiar and unfamiliar material. There is not a track that gets skipped over on the record, no throw away tunes here. If you like progressive rock with broadway type vocals and a great sense of humor, you'll love this record.
Rat city in blue will rock your socks off..........2001-07-20
Although this album originally came out in the 70's it still holds up with the best of them, just like all of the Good Rats albums. Chock FULL of hard driving rock & Roll and very well written by Peppi Marchello, the Rats lead vocalist. It kicks off with "Does it make you feel good", a tune all guys probably wished an ex girlfriend could hear shortly after a breakup! A big fan favorite. Songs like "Boardwalk slasher", "Reason to kill", "Hour glass" and "Rat City in blue" all have quite a punch. "Tough guys" is a tribute to the old movie tough guys and is just a really great song. "Yellow flower" is a riot and a very catchy tune. There's a "bonus track" called "Mean mother", recorded live and really rocks. I'm a long time Good Rats fan from the early days and this or any Rats albums is just a MUST have. I'm personally so glad their records were released on CD but they can be hard to find. KEEP LOOKING for them, they are well worth it.
The Good Rats.......2001-05-29
This is one of the best Good Rats albums ever put out. All the songs are wonderful, but the best song on the album is one called "Advertisement in the Voice". If you buy this album I guarinttee that you will love it.
RAT ON !.......2000-01-28
Next to Tasty this is my second most favorite album of all time! I've been listening to the Rats since 1984. This past year I've been fortunate enough to see the original line-up play live twice! They are still very tight. Peppi still plays regularly with his two sons in the new Good Rats. My favorite song on the album is and Ratcity in Blue. Some of the best dual lead guitar playing around. I highly recommend this album, as well as Tasty.
We want Tasty.......2000-01-17
I too was hoping to find Tasty on CD...If enough of us ask for it maybe it will happen :-)

Blistering purple album with some quieter moments.......2007-05-26
Released in 1971, Fireball found the band sandwiched in between the scorching In Rock (1970) and the ever-popular Machine head (1972). Of these two albums, I have to say that I prefer Fireball given the combination of classic Deep Purple rockers and the more progressive elements of the band. Come to think of it, this album is also a little bit quieter too.
The lineup on this album is a personal favorite and includes Ritchie Blackmore (electric guitar); Roger Glover (Fender bass guitar); Ian Paice (drums and percussion); Jon Lord (Hammond organ); and the visceral vocal style of Ian Gillan. Overall, the performances on this album by all band members are fantastic - Ritchie turns in some great playing and Roger provides very aggressive and thoughtful lines on the bass. Ian Paice is another great, albeit criminally underappreciated drummer and his thunderous introduction on Fireball is breathtaking. Jon Lord cranks out on the Hammond organ throughout and really adds a lot to the overall Deep Purple sound.
The seven tracks range in length from 3'22" to 8'18" and provide a nice mix of riff heavy, blues-rock "scorchers" and quieter, spacey pieces that feature some relatively experimental passages. The country-ish Anyone's Daughter is one of the quieter pieces and features some dreamy slide guitar work by Ritchie and a vaguely haunting melody. Other tracks that stray off of the beaten Deep Purple path include the excellent The Mule, which features great interplay between Glover and Paice, and the lengthy tune Fool, which includes a trippy, percussion-heavy section in the middle with spacey guitar work. The album closes on a great note with the excellent rocker No One Came.
This remastered album is excellent and the liner notes are very detailed and include pictures of the band. I found the liner notes to be pretty informative. The nine bonus tracks are pretty good and are comprised of a mixture of alternate takes; remixes; and b-sides. Overall I thought the bonus tracks were OK although I was more than satisfied with the original album.
All in all, this is an excellent album by Deep Purple that finds the band becoming a bit more progressive in their approach (progressive hard rock). In combination with the hard rock pieces, this album makes for a great listening experience. Highly recommended along with In Rock (1970); Who do we think we are (1973) and a few similar sounding progressive hard rock albums by other bands including Death Walks behind You (Atomic Rooster, 1970).
Heavier than it was on vinyl........2007-01-13
The Roger Glover remaster is worth the extra few bucks not only because it makes the tracks sound bigger and heavier than they did originally, but the bonus tracks and the booklet are also interesting.
Fireball.......2006-09-25
Band Personnell:
Ian Gillan - Vocals
Ritchie Blackmore - Guitars
Roger Glover - Bass
Ian Paice - Drums
Jon Lord - Organs and Keyboards
The second classic album by Deep Purple, this was more progessive than "Deep Purple in Rock" but it wasn't that wild, Blackmore didn't like this album much but Gillan pick this as one of his biggest favourites, anyway this album has highlights such as the title song, "No No No", "The Mule" and "Fools".
This album may be my least favourite from the four classic albums but it's worth the prize.
Deep Purple Revisited.......2006-04-12
The remixes are worth the money. The extra tracks are worth 1 or 2 listens. This band rocks. Buy a second copy for the car!! Don't copy it. That's illegal. ;)
