What more could you ask?.......2007-06-27
Seems to me the songs are all there, not always aligned as in the 'original' (at least U.S. versions), but there's a handy-dandy index such that if ANYONE mentions ANY Beatle song, you c'look it up, find it, and, by God, play it for them.
Again I say unto you, what more could you ask?
Power of the pound.......2007-06-14
I ordered this from right across the atlantic in the UK as with the strong pound, the price of $199.99 represented outstanding value. All the Beatles tracks as per their original mixes and original uk album releases. If you are a beatles fan, a completist and you don't alreay own all the albums on CD I fail to see how this cannot be an outstanding value for money purchase (at the reduced price). I would also reccomend Ian McDonald's book 'Revolution in the Head' if you listen to the beatles music with this book, you will feel like it is the first time you are really 'listening' to the music.
It's the Beatles all together in one place!.......2007-05-03
I didn't buy this set from Amazon. I bought it through a TV shopping channel (which shall remain un-named). At the time I bought it, it had been out for more than a year and if I remember correctly, there was some kind of lawsuit pending and the set was being taken out of print and no one was sure it would be returning. I know I paid less than $200 for it and, despite what some reviewers here will tell you... it was worth every penny. This is (as others have said) all of the Beatles original UK releases along with Past Masters I & II in a wooden roll-top box. The box is not plastic (as has been claimed) and is very sturdy and fairly heavy. Despite rumors of its demise "Hey Jude" is in fact in this set. The recordings seem clear and clean to me and I love the way the whole set is packaged. Why there is so much mis-information on this set I don't know. All that being said, I highly recommend this set for folks (like myself) who are looking for a box set. Sure, you might be able to assemble the individual albums cheaper, and if that makes you happy, please have at it! But that fact can't take away from this wonderful set.
The Best of Rock n Roll.......2007-04-20
Forget SGT Pepper or Revolver and Rubber Soul, they are not the best Beatles albums. This is the best Beatles album. Ha ha, well you know what I'm saying...Everything they did is classic so get all of the CDs (maybe not this set due to high price) and just play them back to back some weekend and you will see the light. Beatles will live on forever and will always be my fall back music when I get sick of the crap that they release these days...RIP John & George.
yeah........2007-03-05
I've been reading some of the customer reviews here. Are you people complete idiots? There's a bunch of people complaining that 'Hey Jude' isn't in the set. It's on 'Past Masters'which is included! Did you even look at the albums you bought, or the track listing? As for the 'Hey Jude' record (1970), it wasn't an album to begin with. Just an incomplete ad hoc compilation of singles, which has no need to exist anymore since the songs are either on Past Masters, or the regular albums. Likewise, the american capitol albums no longer serve any reason or purpose. they deserve their extinction. Sorry America, you got screwed over in the first place. The beatles had nothing to do with those capitol albums, in fact, they detested that Capitol butchered their records that way. They spent painstaking hours sequencing the UK albums, packaging them too, and these represented their artistic vision. The capitol albums are incomplete besides. Here is every single official song the Beatles released in their initial lifespan, as they intended it, b sides and all. Price aside, what more do you want? Oh, yeah, some customers here want the Red and Blue sets. That makes sense doesnt it? Complain about the price, then ask for 4 cds worth of compilation to be thrown in, repeating the songs already on the other cds in the set? Yeah. If your interest in the beatles doesnt exceed compilations why bother with a 300 dollar set in the first place? Everything in this set is amazing of course. It's unfortunate knowing people this stupid share the same interest as me.

A Must Have In Your John Lennon Collection.......2007-05-29
This is a very comprehensive collection of John Lennon's solo career...With even a few live performances thrown in for good measure...One is the coveted Beatles "Come Together" and "Whatever Gets You Though The Night"...For good measure for a John Lennon tribute Elton John sing "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", which Elton does in his own way, and hits the song spot on...This compilation will not leave the listener wanting for more, because sadly there is no more since his tragic death...The Beatles will live forever in music history and John Lennon will always be a part of music history...

Customer Reviews:
Mediocre, but not without merits.......2006-10-11
I was interested in this album because as a violinist, the richness of a full orchestra playing music is almost always preferable to a handful of musicians. Being a fan of the Beatles, I was intrigued by the concept of hearing some of their music orchestrated. After browsing the available options at Amazon, I decided to opt for this collection as it seemed the most comprehensive, and the price wasn't too bad either.
What I got wasn't all that I had expected or hoped it would be, but it would be misleading to say that this album is a waste. The orchestra isn't the best, and some of the arrangements are--well, lackluster. The most disappointing aspect to me is that the majority of the songs are still accompanied by an electric bass line. This screams to me of laziness and lends many of the tracks this flaw is found in a certain level of cheesiness that gets on one's nerves. That said, many of the versions of their earlier compositions--pre-Rubber Soul--give the songs an added weight and texture that they did not possess originally; these are the most pleasing to my ear.
As much as you get out of the 3 discs, there are a few tracks that, to my disappointment, were not included in this album, "Norwegian Wood" being one of them. Luckily, I found the album "Beatles for Strings" on Amazon by the same orchestra. Unluckily, being by the same group, the songs are of no higher quality than those found on this set.
I have some reservations about recommending this item. It does have several well-done tracks. However, there is a level of "cheese" found on much of this set that the Beatles' originals never had, and that is a definite negative. Furthermore, the omission of several of the pieces that would seem to be best suited to such an orchestral treatment from this set--while they can be found elsewhere--is another flaw, requiring you to pay more.
This is the most comprehensive of the orchestrated compilations, but it has a few major issues.
what you would expect.......2006-02-24
this is the music of the beatles played by some symphony no-one's ever heard of, pretty ho hum, not bad but not good. if you have a desire to hear the songs of the beatles symphonically you might as well pick this up, its not a bad price for a 3 cd set

BEWARE!.......1999-11-25
Beware ... ignore the description that says this CD is performed by the Beatles! In fact, the performers on the CD are: disc 1: the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra disc 2: John Bayless disc 3: Ofra Harnoy & the Orford String Quartet disc 4: the Rochester Pops
They say that if a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is.

horrible.......1999-05-23
The beatles are bad enough on their own, they dont need an orchestra to make them worse.
The best ever symphonic collection of the Fab Four ever!.......1999-03-21
The fact you are reading this probably means you are a fan of the Beatles. If you sometimes wish for a collection of orchestral Beatles songs but are unsure of some of the cheap numbers you have heard, well! This set is amazing, the music is rich and full of feeling, a best buy without a doubt. If it were possible I would give it six stars!

Elevator Music.......2001-09-29
This is sooooo bad it makes me laugh. The enthusiasm is gone. Just when you expect to feel a tingle up your spine from the original beat the tempo changes in the most disappointing way. One star is one too many.

Customer Reviews:
for die-hards.......1999-03-15
I am a die-hard fan and got this collection for a christmas present several years back. There is a lot of material here and most of it i do not remember. However, there is one reason this collection gets four stars; the press conferences! There a several lengthy portions of Beatles press conferences here from around 1966 which are simply priceless. By this time the Beatles had grown weary of touring and their razor-sharp wit is in full bloom. These press conferences are the absolute highlights, some of the other interviews with former associates, relatives, and the ex-beatles themselves give occasionally interesting insights, but overall you will forget most of them because of the sheer volume of material. If anyone has come out with or intends to come out with a collection consisting entirely of Beatles press conferences I would most highly recommend it based on these excerps. Once again, if you are a huge Beatles fan and are looking for something interesting and different, then check this out.

Even Pirates Should Do Better than This.......2007-05-22
First, this is obviously a pirate collection, as were the LPs that this collection is made from. I bought volumes I and II on E-bay. I wouldn't pay full price for them, and frankly I'm surpised to see them on Amazon.
But even a pirate collection should try to get the labeling correct. Thus far I've only listened to volume I. The track list for the most part follows that on the LPs. However, upon listening, I find that side A has been switched with Side B on the first LP, though the labeling doesn't reflect this. A track is titled "My Love Don't Give Me." However, it is actually "Sgt. Pepper's Lonley Hearts Club Band," the full version, which was also the previous track. "I Feel Fine" is listed, but it is actually "We Can Work it Out," which is repeated elsewhere. "Nowhere Man" and "Ob La Di, Ob La Da" are listed, but in fact these tracks are repeats of tracks found elsewhere.
Otherwise, the CD appears to be lifted directly from LPs, with pops an crackles included.
I bought this purely for nostalgic reasons, having owned the LPs, but shoddy even by pirate standards, it disappoints.
You gotta be kidding me!.......2006-12-07
Why did they put this on CD?I could understand owning the actual record, but owning this poorly recorded album on CD?Has anyone done their research on this album?
Beatles' Greatest Hits.......2005-08-24
This is a fantastic collection of The Beatles greatest hits. Three cds full of some of their best songs. It even icludes some of their solo work. Excellent selection of songs!
Greatest Hits.......2005-03-19
This is the best collection of The Beatles hits you will find on CD. It is 3 discs full of 60 of their best songs. I highly recommend this collection.
missing track.......2005-02-27
The editorial review says that these recordings were transfered from 8 track tapes but you can distinctly hear crackles and pops that are only heard when playing an vinyl record. And they were Dolbyized? I can tell you these recordings were not cleaned up at all. No pop, crackle, or surface noise removal has been done. No normalization either. The songs also appear in a different order than listed on the CD cover. And where is the song "I Feel Fine"? It is listed on the track list but is nowhere to be found on the disc. "We Can Work It Out" does appear twice, however. I do think the idea of combining Beatles and related solo material is cool though. Consider buying this album after it has been re-re-remastered. I can't give anything Beatles less than two stars.
