This is real blow-out-the-speakers music! If your neighbors don't complain about you already, after you get this they will for sure. Tremendous lineup, Jeff Beck (Yardbirds alum), Rod Stewart (Faces), Ron Wood (also Faces), Nick Hopkins (various '70's bands including Faces), and hey, you get to hear Stewart sing a cover of Ol' Man River with Beck on bass. I still have my vinyl from 25 years ago and wouldn't give it up for all the oil in Iraq.

If you've never heard the Rod Stewart-era Jeff Beck Group, then you're missing a major piece of rock history. It was this group, and not Led Zeppelin, that pioneered the heavy blues that would evolve into heavy metal ("Truth" was released in '68, "Led Zeppelin I" in '69). Several of these tracks even out-Zep the mighty Zep. The blues covers are better than Zep's, and if you were to imagine Led Zep playing every track with the looseness that they do on "Rock'n'Roll", you have a good idea of what the Jeff Beck Group sounds like. Beck's guitar on "You Shook Me" is not to be missed. Of the two, "Truth" is a much better album than "Beck-Ola", which is bogged down by some less than stellar material. However, the two Elvis covers on "Beck-Ola" are ace.

5 out of 5 stars TWO MASTERPIECES ON ONE CD.......2001-03-01

When I first bought Truth and then Beck-Ola, I couldn't believe how inventive this music was. I always thought Jeff Beck was every bit as creative as Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. And when you add the extraordinary vocals by Rod Stewart you have great music. The music has a very live quality to it even though it was all made in the studio ( except Blues DeLuxe). I suppose that these albums eventually got the credit that they deserved. I can't believe that I am the first one to write a review on them though. Ron Wood plays some incredible 6 string bass also. Jeff Beck eventually went on to become a master fusion solo guitarist superstar ala John McLaughlin. And of course everyone knows how popular of a vocalist Rod Stewart became. Ron Wood went on to record with Rod on his first solo effert, "Gasoline Alley" followed by "Every Picture Tells a Story", which was a masterpiece, and then became the featured guitarist for the Rolling Stones. I must say that this group certainly lead the way with these two great albums. It amazes me that you can purchase both albums on one Cd for such a cheap price. BUY THIS CD!!
