Ho-Hum.......2007-06-27
I love music, and I divide it into two broad categories: music that I devote all my attention to, and music that I'll put on the spin if I want something in the background while other stuff is going on.
This CD falls into the 2nd category. Very generic stuff when, given DJ Tiesto's name, I was really hoping for an experience. A good album should make me feel like I've been somewhere, sort of like reading a book. Didn't happen for me.
Tiesto's weakest CD.......2005-07-15
I am a big fan of Tiesto, esp. the ISOS series, but this CD was truly disappointing. I found it to be bland throughout, with no particularly inspiring melodies or peaks. By far the weakest of the Magik CD's, and the worst Tiesto CD that I have heard.
Save your money and buy any of the ISOS series or Magik 1,4, or 5 instead.
Amazing CD, utterly, simply, fantastically so..........2004-10-07
First, I would love to thank all the reviews here. I never would have brought it if I didn't read how great this CD was. I never brought any CD from DJ Tiesto, but I heard many of his songs on Launch Radio. I don't think I'm new to listening to Trance, but I don't know who's the best or everything about the genre. Anyway, I wanted to try the CD out and I knew it couldn't be horrible because I always loved every song I heard from Tiesto. The CD arrived today and already I'm in love with the music. I love to buy CD's that put me in the mood to write. This CD in particular, even though I'm only on track 7, which is by far the best one I heard yet, extremely superb, is fabulous. This music in seconds, literally sends my mind into that journey, it's hauntingly beautiful. Another reason why I brought this CD is because I love fall weather, and trust me, tomorrow when it's cold outside and windy, I'm going to have this CD blasting in my ear, slamming those beats while the wind blows. I agree... this CD is prefect amongst any fall day, any track. I highly recommend this CD, it's an out of body experience. This CD makes me want to venture on to more volumes of the Magik series.
I'd rate it 10 stars if I could.......2004-07-02
Wow...This CD blew me away. From the start of the CD all the way through the end, I was amazed at the beauty and hypnotic sound. My favorite songs are 'Stand By', 'I Love the Music', and 'Trancestors.' Every track is wonderful, though. If you liked Magik Vol. 1, then this CD by the amazing DJ Tiësto is a must-have for sure because the CD really does live up to its title: Magik.
Beautiful music.......2004-03-10
This is truly beautiful and moving trance music. As a previous reviewer posted, it seems to be overlooked by many people. This is sad because along with Magik 6 this has to be the best of the Magik series. This is not the high energy 'trance' that is played across dancefloors today.
"Story of the Fall" is such an appropriate title for this album. This is a sonic journey into achingly beautiful and emotive music that has an unmistakeable undertone of melancholy and sadness that underlies the beauty of the mellow melodies. As the picture on the album cover illustrates, this album is like the last bittersweet and glorious shout that nature gives in the autumn before it surrenders to the harshness of winter.
This album makes me cry. Magik 2 is all about good trance music from beginning to end.

Some of Billie Holiday's favorites.......2007-06-26
With so many Billie Holiday CDs out there, it's hard to pick a favorite.
This `SOLITUDE` Cd , though, is right up on top of my Billie favorites.
Classic American Music.......2001-11-17
The depth and excellence of American music is unparalled in the world, but sometimes I've wondered about the best definition for it. I think my choice would be Billie Holiday in front of a small jazz combo singing American standards of popular music the way only she could. This was 1952 and Billie was starting to wear down, but her voice was still fine if laced with hard experience. Here she just rolls through a wonderful lineup of songs with a gently swinging combo; never too hard or too soft, the absolutely perfect record for sitting on the couch with a glass of wine and just letting your cares melt away.
One word... Perfect!.......2000-12-28
The first time I listened to this album I wept from the sheer power and beauty of Billie's voice. I've been a fan of Billie since I first heard her, but nothing could prepare me for just how wonderful this album is. There is really only one word to describe this collection of songs, perfect. "Autumn In New York" is but one of the jewels found on this album. "Solitude" might just be the most heart wrenching song ever. Yet, for all that solace it is divinely beautiful in every way. As is this whole album. To me it is like a gift from the heavens. One that should be cherished and listened to over and over again.
Another One of Billie's "Must Own's".......2000-12-08
Billie scores another triumph for herself with this essential recording. Made in 1952 when her voice was still in pretty good shape (most of the fans will agree after listening). The song selection was a bold one since half are from her Columbia days in the 1930's. Here is a different Billie because most of the tempos have been slowed down to suit her taste and preference. This was her first release since leaving the Decca label and what a big relief it is to hear her again in a jazz combo setting with some occasional saxophone backing thrown in. Every song is framed around Billie's voice and her wonderful interpretation. While her voice has taken on more rasp, it has also grown fuller and rich with nuance and subtlety, something she did not possess in her "golden era" of the 1930s. All are standards on this 15-song set, including an alternate take of "Autumn in New York". Verve has done a pretty good job remastering, though some hisses are still evident, but it doesn't get in the way of the aural enjoyment of Billie's performance.
Jazz fans will find solace in "Solitude".......2000-07-19
Upon signing with Norman Granz for Verve Records in the early fifties, Billie Holiday recorded a set of songs with a small combo, reminiscent of the work she did in the thirties. The significant difference, however, is her voice: the early fifties were Holiday's glorious "in between" period; more mature and textured than her early years but not as ravaged and drug-worn as her later recordings. With the quintessential Holiday nuance, a top-notch set of songs and a stellar backing that includes pianist Oscar Peterson, Holiday offers up one of the strongest and most consistent albums of her distinguished career.
Both "Blue Moon" and "Moonglow" have the easiest of swings, enhanced by masterful vocals and first-rate horn solos, and "I Only Have Eyes for You" is one of her bounciest and strongest uptempo recordings. But for those of you who cherish her bluesier side, never fear: her gift for melancholy can be cherished on the gorgeous, Duke Ellington-penned title track, as well as the wistful classic "These Foolish Things (Remind Me of You)."
Throw in a gorgeous remastering and near-perfect mix and you have one of the most impressive albums of an incomparable career. Whether you're a longtime fan eager to hear her in her finest element or a jazz novice curious as to why Billie Holiday is still so revered four deacades after her passing, "Solitude" is a treasure to behold.

one of his less better mixtapes.......2007-01-28
this mixtape isnt really worth any more than 2 stars,i think the game is a dope artist and im probly a bit biased when writing reveiws of his ablums, and i still didnt like it much,i just couldnt get into the beats on subject matter,it seems rushed to me,keep your cash and get one of games better mixtapes,he has a whole stack of them...lol
The best album I've ever heard.......2006-01-25
I thought this cd wouldn't be very good because after artist makes a cd as good as The Documentary they seem to have used most of their creativity. But this is the best rap album ever.
The Game ----- The Untold Story, Part 2.......2006-01-09
If The Game is rap's self proclaimed MVP for 2005, Then JT The Bigga Figga could be a candidate for raps 2005 Executive of the Year. Every couple of months JT puts out some old Game material that apparently, he has the rights to, then those records go on to sell a lot of copies with minimal expense to JT. You can't really knock that, unless of course, it's your material that he's selling. In just a few months JT has released two albums by one of Hip-Hops biggest superstars. The second of JT's series, Untold Story Volume II (Fastlife), featuring The Game seems to have made no improvements upon where Volume I left off.
Untold Story Vol. II is clearly more of a JT project than a Game project. A lot of the vocals were recorded by The Game years ago when he was still in the early stages of his career. But even then, The Game displayed the realness that makes him one of Hip-Hop's biggest stars on songs like "Just Beginning", where he airs out his father over some smooth guitar licks, for some of the things his father did to his family while he was growing up. Another song that true Game fans can appreciate is "Truth Rap" where he speaks about life in the ghetto in a way that only a few can when he spits "Nobody knows there neighbors name/ unless they sell weed or cocaine/a lot of black clouds on a block with no rain/The game got a lot to say/ so they wanna take me down in my own front yard like Marvin Gaye." But outside of a few other decent tracks from The Game himself including "Business Never Personal" - "Real Live on blocks, if we aint pushin the rocks, we movin the stocks", Volume II suffers from mediocre production and a lack of creative direction mainly because the star of the show had NO input in the creative process.
It's unclear how much of The Game's material JT has left in his vault but what is clear after listening to this album is that he's probably getting pretty low on his stash, which means that pretty soon JT is gonna have to come up with a new hustle for 2006. Untold Story Vol. II has a similar feel to a recent posthumous Tupac album where the lyrics seem a little outdated and a little too familiar (heard some of these verses on the last album) and the production and the M.C. just aren't on the same page and don't compliment each other at all. Now, while Tupac can get away with that, the same thing can not be said at this point for JT The Bigga Figga or The Game.
Good Listen.......2005-10-26
This cd is pretty good even though JT just wants to make money off The Game. This album is better then the first Untold Story but just slightly under The Documentary. Favorite songs are Walk Thru The Sky,Born And Raised In Compton, and Game Get Live. I recommend that Game fans buy this album and if you want to hear a little of the Westcoast then this cd is for you.
Good CD.......2005-10-26
The Game is one of the best to come out of the westcoast in a long time. This cd is not what you think it is, it does not have the beats that his true debut The Documentary has but the lyrics are a little better on this cd but most people will say other wise but this is my opinion. I recommend that hardcore Game fans buy this cd and people who like underground cds.

Volumes 1 & 2 excellent ...........2006-02-09
HOWEVER Vol 3 has several fillers that don't fit with the Sue Story on UK Sue that I remember first time around,BUT; at least 11 great tracks somehow slid in here though ,and if you are a Sue nut like me y'gotta have em ! Volume 4 is the weakest collection so far and i'm still troubled by the lack of tunes that still have not appeared yet .Look at my list of missing tracks in my review of vol 3 .I recently discovered some of these essential missing tracks can be found on an Island 40th Anniversary collection called Rhythm And Blues Beat. It is Volume 2 in the Island 40th Anniv series .

Album Description
"Lounge Story 2" retraces the history of lounge music born in the 1960's while showcasing its influences on contemporary musical motifs. Exquisitely chosen, it forgoes the typical downtempo, chill-out and 'back to mine' grooves in favor of a sophisticated and chic musical program that is both classic and contemporary, while tipping its hat to the French 'easy-listening' or 'lounge-core' underground movement.
"Lounge Story 2" offers something for everyone. Similar to internationally-acclaimed releases like "Verve Remixed I & II," "Blue Note Revisited" and the ingenious "Hotel Costes" series, the compilation is an intoxicating and adventurous journey through the multi-dimensional world of jazz and jazz-influenced sounds. From bossa nova, future jazz, swing, broken beat, house, samba, Afro-Latin rhythms, jazz-funk fusion, textural electronic & organic downtempo grooves and lush smoky jazz nuances, the rapturous collection is a seductive and bewitching tour-de-force essential to old and new school heads alike.
Highlights include: Moondog's infectious and swinging 1969 pearl "Lament I, Bird's Lament" (which was immortalized in Mr. Scruff's 1999 international smash and Lincoln Car commercial theme "Get A Move On"), Carol Ventura's sweepingly cinematic "I Want To Be With You," Eric Pierre feat. Ladygatica's sumptuous "Channel Zero (Shade of Soul Remix)," Patchwork's timeless Afro-Latin inspired rare groove "Summertime," Nicola Conte's brilliant re-working of Truby Trio's brilliant "High Jazz," John Beltran's cosmic future-jazz drenched "Heaven and Earth," Hajime Yoshizawa's symphonic broken-bossa masterpiece "I Am With You" featuring the indelible vocals of Smoke City chanteuse Nina Miranda and co-produced by Chris Franck (Smoke City / Da Lata) and Colorblind's penetrative slow-burning closing track "Erotica."
Customer Reviews:
Awesome tracks!.......2007-03-15
This is one of my favourite lounge/jazz compilations, very catch tunes on here!Navarone and Hajime Yoshiwaza are my favourite tracks on here.Definately worth checking out!
Great collection of tracks..........2005-05-26
I was rather impressed with the collection of groovy, mellow, and even jumping at times, tracks on this CD. A Must-have? Sure.
The opening track, "Lament No. 1," was one that I recognized as Mr. Scruff (didn't know that until I found that song on radio) brilliantly interpolated that song into "Get A Move On" which I heard in the infamous Lincoln commercials before I even knew who made it and before I realized that it was actually a song and not some jingle the automaker came up with. I really enjoyed Patchworks' rendition of "Summertime" even with its midi-sounding quality, it was still something to nod your head to. "High Jazz" has to be THE high point of the album, and Nicola Conte and the Truby Trio did an excellent job in mixing simple vocals with a stunning piano/sax bit and electrifying percussion, all while throwing a bit of electronica into the mix. This song, if you ask me, is what Lounge is all about or should be about.
Other songs that were enjoyable were "Channel Zero" with its poeticism and a nice beat, "Heaven and Earth", especially toward the end where the bass is so different from the first half that you wonder whether it's the same song but it's all woven together rather nicely, "Shihab's Habit" with its staccato-style piano and hard-hitting percussion score, and "Pascalito's Theme" which has a very nice fast but soothing tempo...gotta love that keyboard..."I Am With You" was cool, too...albeit I can't understand the lyrics, half of it is in another language (or languages, I can't tell)!
And who can forget "Mannix" by Klement Julienne, what a song! THAT is how music should sound! Smooth, vibrant, rhythmic, with a kickin' percussion bit, a catchy chorus line, beautiful guitar and brass compositions, and a very mixed range of scores, if you wanna get technical.
The low points, however, included "I Want to Be With You" (and maybe it's because I'm not high on vocals or something) and "B. Erotica" (again, vocals). But the other songs that have vocals, like Channel Zero were actually pleasing.
Overall, great album, a great collection...
I would also pick up "The Best of Cookin'" for a great two-disc compilation or jazz from the West Coast, including a few of DJ Greyboy's hits, such as "Grey's Groove" which has a very upbeat jazzy feel with its mellow piano and the fluent sounds of a dancing flute and a bass line with a hip-hop style percussion (even though it's a drum loop), a truly eclectic but enjoyable mix.
The album description says it better than I can........2004-06-16
All I can say is that IMHO it lives up to the description. Although I have enjoyed music from the lounge genre, I might not have purchased this CD had I stumbled on it here at amazon, especially if no one had reviewed it. I heard it playing in a music store and bought it after hearing a couple of cuts. If what you hear in the samples appeals to you, take the plunge. If you were born after 1960 and/or think this might be 'techno' lounge or trance, you will probably not be happy with it.

Customer Reviews:
A gateway drug, nothing more, nothing less. .......2007-03-11
To say that this album constitutes a necessity for the classical music enthusiast would be a great big unarguable lie. It has nothing innovative to offer you as a listener, except for maybe the labelling of melodies such as "My Heart Will Go On" (that god-awful Love Theme from the gruesome film Titanic) as a worthy member of "Best Classics 100". But than again, every collection of things that does not naturally belong together, is bound to have at least one outcast where the connection clearly isn't based on anything but cost and sale-ability.
This might sound like the beginning of a CD-slaughter, or a snobbish review where only the Deutche Grammophone's recordings are meting my standards, but although I am fairly picky when it comes to musical collections, best of albums, and such horrifying destructions of the universality of the works and the intentions of the artist behind it, I am willing to give this collection another chance, since classical music is somewhere between Arabic and wine in degree of unmanageability. It also helps that all the tunes are familiar to almost every one of us, and the fact that the artists' intentions probably got killed by the hundreds of different conductors trying to convey their personal interpretation of the works.
What I am saying is that this CD can be to classical music enthusiast what 'absolute rock' can be to a rock enthusiast, or to someone slightly interested, with no conceptual frames of where to start the search for knowledge. "Best Classics 100" offers nothing except a selection of melodies where there's bound to be one for every taste, but where the album feeling, the entirety or completeness intended by the composer, or conductor, or performer is completely lost in a trade-off made with variety.
The collection is attempted organised by giving each CD a different theme, supposedly to describe the mood of the music, and the labeller succeeds only to a limited extent as we move from themes such as 'uplifting' and 'relaxing' towards 'golden'. I wonder what that golden feeling constitutes. It apparently is to be found in, amongst others, "Jesus Bleibet Meine Freunde", and in "My Heart Will Go On"?
But no matter how I try to describe this CD it will sound worse than it actually is. This because to me it works as a great reference to which I can always turn with my classical music questions. Was it Schumann or Schubert who were the sad one? Of all the -inis, which where which again? Who composed "O Mio Babbino Caro"? The starting point for finding out if you belong to the romantic or the renascence wing, lies within this assemblage, if you look with your ears.
If you feel that classical music is something you like, and you'd like to learn more about it, this is a way to get started. If used together with a book on classical music, or wikipedia, it can be a gateway drug, leading you towards the great different experiences to be found within the different genres of classical music, and within the different periods ranging from the 12th century, maybe even earlier, towards yesterdays and tomorrows spectacular compositions of melodies that conveys a feeling, a state of mind with much more precision than any other musical genre. Expect a fairly alright collection of classical prunes, and you won't be disappointed.
Decent Selection, But..........2005-04-21
...The Audio Quality is really not great. I bought this CD because I am new to classical, and the price was great! 100 songs for 25 bucks, thats like 25 cents a song, most songs are 1 dollar or more. Now I know why it's cheaper. The audio quality isn't that good. I imported the entire collection to my computer using Apple Lossless, and it sounded fuzzy, not crisp, with background noise, and sounded like compressed music, cutting off the frequency response.
I then played the CD's through my home stereo, with the same results. I plugged in my SHURE E5c headphones and the sound was soft, uninviting, lacking punch, with significant backgound noise (not just from the headphones), which was especially distracting when the music would get softer. I have heard much of the music before, and it was much more dynamic, entertaining, this recording seems too flat.
The music selection is ok, but I was hoping for some more interesting selections from the vast classical genre.
Overall, not that great of a recording, but many might not notice the difference, so if you are new to classical or aren't like an audiophile, get this album because it's a great overview of pop-culture classical, and it's pretty inexpensive.
A must-have classical music set!.......2005-01-06
Classical music is, by far, my favorite type of music. It can make you happy or sad, it can make you laugh or cry, and it can make you want to fall asleep or get up and dance. This 6-disc set is a must-have for and classical music-lover! It has all the great composers like Handel, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Bach, and Pachelbel. Some great songs include: Canon In D(Pachelbel), Morning: Peergynt(Grieg), Adagio For Strings(Barber), Cavatina(Myers), and much, much more. Every classical song you can think of is on here and the sound quality is great. So if you're looking for a good classical music CD, this set is all you need. Be prepared to be blown away!
