Customer Reviews:
What could have been.......2007-05-18
This is a perfect example of an album that could have been so much moore. There are some great tracks and there are some bad tracks.
Murder In The Skies is worth the price of admission alone. Fantastic song (although the guitar solo-intro is kind of out of place for such a dark song)
The title track and Devil In Her Heart are very good.
Shapes Of Things is good.
The rest of the album really falls short with a few stinkers.
Gary's voice is also very limited; I think a different singer could have really livened things up. Great guitar work though, love the meaty sound on Murder & Devil.
I use to have this on cassette way back and just picked this up...great to hear these tunes again.
3 1/2 stars
THIS is Gary Moore!.......2006-10-14
No offense to his blues stuff, but to me this guitar work stands up with the greatest; His '80's lead style evokes strong mixture of Van Halen, Schenker, Jeff Beck, and Vivian Campbell. The leads in the title track, Devil in her Heart, Empty Rooms, and Murder in the Skies are still hard to fathom, and Shapes of Things still remains one of the greatest rock/metal solos to come from this era. Moore displays an incredible balance of technique and spine chilling emotion...Rock/metal guitar fans will be pleasantly(if now overwelmingly)surprised at how much he shreds here; Those who have the album already know what I'm talking about...His most shining moment as far as I'm concerned.
Some of 80's Metal's Finest!.......2006-09-17
The title and opening track sets the mood for the CD, putting great 80's metal with nuclear anxiety right on the table. "Shapes of Things" will take you back to the Summer of '83, when GM dominated even US rock radio with this track. Maybe you've forgotten this fantastic rocker and maybe you didn't even know at the time who it was. It's actually a cover of an old Yardbirds song, but you've never heard a makeover like this! The ferocious, galloping rocker "Murder in the Skies" relays the true tale of a commercial passenger jet shot down by communist fighter planes during some of the most intense moments of the cold war. It begins with a stellar solo where you'll find darker metal's answer to Van Halen's Eruption.
My 4-star rating picks up anything from pretty good right up to just about a 5-star rating. And I stop at a 4 here for a few reasons. Empty Rooms does beat most other ballads. Even so, calling it the '84 Remix really doesn't even justify the repetition of the song as a "bonus" track. Also the instrumental, Blinder, just doesn't go anywhere, which distinctly disappoints--especially with what GM does everywhere else on "Victims". Aside from these things, you've got tons of solid 5 star material here.
One Of Gary Moore's Five Best.......2004-12-01
VICTIMS OF THE FUTURE, along with CORRIDORS OF POWER, RUN FOR COVER, THE WILD FRONTIER, and the best-of OUT IN THE FIELDS, is one of Gary Moore's five best CDs ever. All of the songs except "Law Of The Jungle" are great, but the title song, "Devil In Her Heart", "Murder In The Skies", "Hold On To Love", and the ballad "Empty Rooms" stand out in particular. You should get all the Gary Moore albums I've mentioned at the same time.

Rippin'.......2004-10-31
Moore' 1983 release "Victims.." is Moore's best all-round effort. Stiil in the thick of his hard-rock era. Moore lays down five of the best hard rock tracks in a row that ever came from 80's metal/hard rock. Tracks 1-5 absolutley smoke. The re-working of the Yardbirds' "shapes of things" is very clever as is the way cool solo in "Teenage Idol" (a tongue-in-cheek take on rock and roll singers). Chocked full of snappy playing and a nice production, "Victims" is a nice look into quality 80's metal before it became too heavy and too fast. High Spots - Shapes of Things, Empty Rooms, Murder in the Skies. Low Spots - All I want.
Alternately fantastic and fantastically silly........2004-06-29
Gary Moore, Victims of the Future (EMI, 1983)
There is quite a fine line between brilliance and cheesiness, and never has that been more evident than on Gary Moore's fourth album, Victims of the Future. Pieces of brilliance (the title track, Shapes of Things, Murder in the Skies) juxtaposed with songs so cheesy they hurt to listen to (Teenage Idol, All I Want). "The Law of the Jungle" straddles the line so closely I can't tell which side it falls on, even after having listened to it hundreds of times in the twenty-one years between its release and now.
Worth having, especially as the title track hasn't seen the light of day (despite Moore's predilection for putting out best-of collections) since the 1984 live album We Want Moore, but you probably want to pick it up used. ***

Where's "Devil In Her Heart?".......2003-02-10
This CD would have been given 5 stars if they had not left out "Devil In Her Heart," which was on the original LP release. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the CD because it is EXPLOSIVE!
The master of the guitar.......2002-05-18
Folks, let me introduce to you one of the most underappreciated guitarist of all time. If you are a guitar player, listening to this will make you want to throw your guitar in the floor in disgust. Mr. Moore doesn't play around, he has an unbelievable fire behind his guitar playing. And his vocals aren't bad either. Favorite songs are Victims of the Future, Shapes of Things, Empty Rooms, Hold On To Love, and the incredible Murder In The Skies. Warning: this CD may cause your CD player to smoke!
Solid, Meaty, guitar oriented 80's metal.......2002-02-15
Bought this CD on a friend's recommendation and was completely satisfied. Hard to pigeon-hole the sound: Sonicly, the closest thing I can compare it to is a guitar virtuoso based hybrid of 'Accept' and early 'Van Halen'.
GOOD BUT...........2001-03-27
Good but "CORRIDORS OF POWER" is much better. "VICTIMS OF THE FUTURE" has some really weak spots.
wow !!!! hits like an earthquake!!!!.......2001-01-20
this album is hard and heavy from the 1st note to the last note! empty rooms is a great love gone bad song in the line of black from pearl jam! get this album ! i have the original vinyl release from the early 80s cant beat the vinyl!!!!from thin lizzy tourin guitarist gary moore makes the guitar scream for mama!! also i recommend corridors of power and back on the streets for the complete gary moore experiecne i saw him live in 1984 as the open act for rush . he blew them away!!! get it asap
