Customer Reviews:
Not as good as it could be.......2006-08-24
This album includes most of the hits, however it does not have the original version of "Joy to the World" with the extra excerpt towards the end saying "JOY TO THE WORLD, (pause) JOY TO YOU AND ME" and it also does not have songs like "Eli's Coming" on it. It is pretty good, but there are better Three Dog Night albums to get.
Not as bad as everyone says it is.......2005-09-10
This is one of the earlier Three Dog Night compilation and it's very good, contrary to common belief. I'll admit it's very obselete compared to newer compilations like the 1982 "Best of Three Dog Night" or the more recent "Complete Singles Collection". But this one is very good for its time. It has 13 of the 20 songs from the 1982 "Best of" compilation, plus a 14th that wasn't included on the 1982 compilation, "I'd Be So Happy". This compilation actually saves your money in a way. It has all the good songs from the "Hard Labor", which is pretty much unavailable new and pricey for a used copy. (about $24.99 at the least). Although it did fail to include "Mama Told Me (Not To Come)" This is a very good compilation and I reccomend it to anyone.
Not a bad collection, but now there are much better ones.......2005-04-06
I bought this as a tape about ten years ago. Somehow, I lost the tape and bought a copy on CD. But now there's an even better Three Dog Night compilation CD. I'm not sure of the name, but if you type the group's name into Amazon's "popular music" engine, it's usually the first one to appear. Also, it sells at a low price and has more than 20 of their greatest hits. My major complaint with this Greatest Hits album is that the sound is not remastered or anything. It sounds like it's playing on a really good LP record. I recommend--both to the casual Three Dog Night listener as well as the hard core fan--to try one of the later compilation CDs. They're sure to have more songs and better sound.
Overall, I suppose this is not a bad compilation, but why bother when you can get so much more?
bad sound plus no "Mama Told Me(Not to Come)"?!?!.......2004-07-21
I don't own this disc(but I do have the lp copy), so I can't say anything about the sound quality only that I read another review that mentions it. My only qualm is that it never included "Mama Told Me(Not to Come)"(1970), their first no.1 single, but instead has "I'd Be So Happy"(1974), a much lower-charted song.(Not to mention no "Easy To Be Hard" and "Eli's Coming",both from '69). But I never liked those two that much anyway. I'd recomend the newly released(May,'04) "Complete Hit Singles" compilation that includes all 21 of their 1969-74 top 40 hits on one disc.
What's here is good.......2004-04-27
This collection is getting a bad rap. It is a good, but incomplete collection. It is a re-issue of the vinyl lp from 1976, so it only includes 14 songs. 13 of which were big hits, the only miss being "I Be So Happy" from the Hard Labor album. But I would recommend you pass on this and buy "Complete Hit Singles" which includes all 21 top 40 hits on a single CD.
