Love the DVD.......2007-07-20

I am happy that I purchased this dvd/cd combo, and this is just based on the listening and viewing of the DVD. I have been a Dire straits fan for some time and also recently a convert to Bluegrass style music so the whole country/bluegrass Emmylou Harris Mark Knofler sound really works for me. They seem to genially be having a good time together and harmonize well with one another. The guitar work is vintage Knofler and I like that the DVD version throws in several songs form both artist solo careers. I especially liked "Our Shangri-La" and the classic "Romeo and Juliet" If you are a fan of these particular artist it is a no brainier to add to your collection. The video, and more importantly, the sound production are also first rate.

I have bought 4 copies of this DVD/CD in the past year. Everytime I show it to someone it's obvious how much they like it so I give it to them. Mark and E Lou are terrific but as in the past Mark's band is so professional and talented it just pushes the performance over the top. This band performs more perfectly than many bands perform in a studio. If you like to watch live performances and like Mark just get it and enjoy.

This is the best duet couple to come along ever. The songs by Mark Knopfler are wonderful and the band is awesome. Emmylou is at her best and the feel of this concert enhances the enjoyment of watching the DVD. No one will be disappointed in this music.

The performances on the DVD are masterful. Mark and Emmylou Harris are wonderful. I just wish the video editor was as good as the audio editor, but both of them could use a little more editing. How many times do you have to heaer Mark yelling "Thank you" to the crowd? My guess is about 1/4 of what they left on the DVD. The performances are wonderful. Mark is understated on the guitar and Emmylou is in fine voice. Ignore any comments about an "ordinary voice" from the Amazon editors.

Diversity for the maturing Classic Rock audiophile.......2007-07-16

I'm usually the last in line when it comes to live albums, and overly long performances with few lyrics and covers sound like bad ideas, too. But these guys pull it off with a nuanced, sublime style that just sounds oh so great!

You don't get a second chance to create a first impression, so start with "Red House" (Jimi Hendrix), where borrowing from jazzy George Benson ("On Broadway") brings the crowd to life for the first of many times.

It's not a bang-you-over-the-head albums, but it does get my highest recommendation for the maturing Classic Rock fan with adequate audio equipment - don't forget to set your equalizer to flat.

If you haven't been blown away be a great live album since the Allman Bros. at Filmore East, or Hendrix' Band of Gypsies, or even Santana's Moonflower then it's time you got this.

Breathless!! That's how this recording leaves you. Like a master painter this group leaves deft touches on their musical canvas. There is no lover of classic rock that can sit through "Poppy" and not be moved. Both a homage to those who tread before them and an innovative guitar tour de force; this cut alone makes the disc worthwhile.

I've never heard anything like this. A guitarscape of three dimensional presentation that is unforgettable. Frank makes his guitar speak like a living, breathing thing. It's as if his guitar is a part of his body. After listening to these CD's I had to just sit and wait until I could bring myself back from the mind trip that Frank had taken me. This rendition of "He's Calling" is astonishing. Simply astounding. You want entertainment? Well let me tell you, this is it. I said it before and I'll say it again. I've never heard anything like this.

if you were to take all of the following guitarists; hendrix, stevie ray, satriani, vai, malmsteen, clapton, roy buchanan, duane allman, tony macalpine, santana, frusciante, gary moore, eric johnson, et. al., and combined them into just one guitarist, the end result would be something very close to frank marino. beautiful melodies and gorgeous tone? it's here. psychadelic, overdriven, blues/rock on par with anything you've heard? it's on here. blistering, cutting edge guitar, in the same vein as vai, satch, etc.? it's here. the man simply encompasses all of it in a way that no other single guitarist, that i am aware of, does. this cd is incredible in its scope. parts of it will make the hair on your arms stand up. parts of it will touch you deep in your soul and may even move you to tears. there are other times when all you can do is shake your head in disbelief and laugh. amazingly gifted musician.

This album is worth buying for the Rendition of Masters of war & a totally brilliant "Garage" Rock version of Highway 61. Tangled up in blue with new lyrics is cool as well

Very good live Dylan.......2006-03-23

Real Live is an album that seems to get a bad rap, that is, if people even know about it at all. But this reputation (or lack thereof) is unwarranted, as this is an extremely enjoyable album. There are two types of songs here: the acoustic numbers and the loud upbeat rockers.

The acoustic songs (It Ain't Me, Babe, Tangled Up in Blue, and Girl From the North Country) are for the most part very good. It Ain't Me Babe has the crowd singing along heartily, which is nice to hear. And Tangled Up in Blue, with alternate lyrics, is just amazing. I loved this tune when I heard the original but I just can't get enough of this one. Great. Girl From the North Country isn't quite as good, as Dylan's voice seems more strained.

As for the rockin' tunes (the rest of the album), they're almost all at a faster tempo than the album originals, and all feature great guitar work from Mick Taylor (formerly of the Rolling Stones); in fact, the band as a whole is very tight and Dylan is into it.

So while this album is hard to find and may be not as historically significant or (quite) as high quality as the Bootleg Series albums, it is nonetheless a good listen and I would recommend it to any Dylan fan.

Underrated Dylan Live CD.......2006-03-02

Dylan started with "Before the Flood" - an excellent document of his 1974 tour. The he released "Hard Rain" , which was only so-so (get Live 1975 the bootleg series instead). The he released the Budokan set, which was rock- bottom. That set was so bad that expectations were modest for this live set.
Surprise- this is good! He's got a good backing band led by Mick Taylor of Rolling Stones fame and he does a good 10 song set here. Maybe not his best live work but better than much of the other live LPs of the period.

Real Live Rocks.......2003-10-01

My dad says he was blown away when he first heard this record. Mick Taylor had just left the Stones, was now playing with Mr. D, and his smoking guitar work supercharges this record. Sometimes Dad and I disagree, but not about this record. I do wish though, that they would have made it a double CD and released the whole show, cuz this CD just plain rocks. Oh well, maybe if we're lucky, they'll release one of the shows from this tour as a future legal bootleg in the Bootleg Series. Until then we'll have to be satisfied with "Real Live." Five stars for this one.

Real Bad.......2003-01-06

This is not a very good live album. The sound quality is not too good and performance is not too exciting except for some nice guitar solos. It has 10 songs ranging from 4 to 6 minutes long. The total lenght of the CD is 52 minutes.

The sound quality is not very good. It is loud and noisy. The audience chatter is way too high in many spots. You can actually pick out some talking in the back ground.

This is one of Dylan's lesser performances. His singing is particularly annoying. He vocals are very affected. He sounds like one of those comedians who do a bad imitation of Dylan with the over exaggerated accent.

The back up band is not very good and renditions of the songs are not anything new or special.

The only thing that makes this CD worthwhile are some amazing guitar solos on 4 of the tracks. And no wonder...the guitarist is Mick Taylor, of Rolling Stones and Gong fame. But, the guitar playing is not enough to recommend this CD.

Sabastian Live.......2007-03-28

One of the great Acoustic/Singer/Songwriter live albums. The gentleness of his smile can be seen with your eyes closed, and heard with every word he sings.

+ 1/2 stars...Sebastian's Aw-Shucks Persona Shines Through on This Live Set.......2007-02-24

John Sebastian's troubles with his former label (MGM) continued when they also released an unathorized album entitled JOHN SEBASTIAN LIVE in 1971. To combat this "bootleg" release, Sebastian recorded several concert appearances in California and put out the Warner/Reprise album CHEAPO-CHEAPO PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS REAL LIVE JOHN SEBASTIAN. Listening to Sebastian perform old Lovin' Spoonful songs along with material that inluenced Sebastian throughout his career, you are immediately swept into the good-time vibe these performances provide.

Essentially these are solo performances with keyboards provided by Sebastian's longtime friend Paul Harris. Many of the songs are very short--"Lovin' You," "Rooty-Toot," "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Am'ys Theme" clock in at 1:30 each (and though uncredited on the track listing, Sebastian also does about 30 seconds of "Teen Angel" and "Ballad of a Teenage Queen"). Of course, Sebastian reprises "Younger Generation" from his Woodstock performance, along with Spoonful classics like "Nashville Cats" and "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind." My favorite is the moving version of Huddie Ledbetter's "Goodnight Irene" which closes the set.

Overall, Sebastian connects with his audience in this live setting and provides enough magical moments to make this a worthy addition to any Lovin' Spoonful fan's collection. [Running Time - 51:00] RECOMMENDED

Silvertone Records has done a smart job of resurrecting Buddy Guy's career. When the label signed the Chicago blues guitar master in 1990, the 54-year-old legend hadn't had an American release in nine years. Silvertone introduced him to a new audience by having him play duets with such rock-star admirers as Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, and Jeff Beck on the 1991 album, Damn Right, I've Got the Blues. In 1996 the label unleashed the hardcore Buddy Guy stretching out on vintage blues numbers in a live setting on Live! The Real Deal. The Real Deal, my review from Barcelona.......2007-04-24

After reading some critical reviews of his record I have listened to it again and I have to agree with some of them willy-nilly. This cd contains some disappointments for all true Buddy Guy fans. For instance in the Bobby Blue Bland's "Ain't that Lovin' you", a song which is really out of place here, or in the irregular tune "Let me love you baby". But the rest of record is really great for me. Guy's voice is still powerful in spite of his age (60 years, at once), and he gives excellent renditions of "I've Got My Eyes On You", the Grammy award winner "Damn Right I've Got The Blues", the classical "Sweet black angel", the magnificent slow version of "My time after awhile", and in the Elmore James' single "Talk To Me Baby". There is also an excellent acoustic piano work of Chuck Berry's formed Johnnie Johnson in "I've got news for you" . The guitar is excellent in general and offers some moments of high tension. Guy is near his top form in this set drawn from gigs at his own Chicago club. If you're a fan of Chicago blues or a fan of Buddy Guy chances are that you'll enjoy this album.

Stands up well.......2006-10-27

I've seen Buddy Guy live several times, and this album captures some of the feel of being there. I think the horns are too much and Buddy Guy's playing is drowned out too often, but overall this album is well worth adding to your Buddy Guy collection.

The essential moment of terror on a rock-solid album.......2005-11-09

First, it's Buddy in fine form, Second, it's G.E. Smith and the SNL band, providing excellent support. A fan of Buddy and / or a fan of the blues can't go wrong with this one, but there's a real, raw, "Hellhound On His Trail" moment that makes this a must-have. Even the fans who are moderately familiar with Buddy's history know of his connection to Muddy Waters. During "My Time After A While" (around the 5 minute mark) he does an extended Muddy "Mannish Boy" type of scat that ends with him howling "lookee here, lookee here, lookee here, lookee here" as the band rallies and stomps and thuds around a brutal, paint-peeling guitar solo. Buy this one. NOW.

Good. Almost great.......2004-08-26

Buddy Guy is accompanied by the Saturday Night Live house orchestra on this album, which may only include nine songs, but still clocks in at well over an hour.

Guy's playing is strong and focused almost all the way through, and he gets superb backing from former Chuck Berry-pianist Johnnie Johnson, whose solo on the T-Bone Walker-like "I've Got News For You" is one of several instrumental highlights. Guy plays rhythm and lead guitar equally well (some blues guitarists, like B.B. King, literally can't play a chord), his voice is still powerful in spite of his advancing years, and he plays excellent renditions of "I've Got My Eyes On You", "Damn Right I've Got The Blues", "Let Me Love You Baby", and the Elmore James-single "Talk To Me Baby" in particular.

"Live - The Real Deal" may not be perfect (Guy's slightly erratic vocals are sometimes too low, something which should have been corrected in the mix), but it does show what an excellent guitar player that Buddy Guy is. It also features some of his best songs in good or even great live renditions, and if you're a fan of Chicago blues, you'll probably enjoy this album. If you're a fan of Buddy Guy you're almost sure to.

buddy Guy takes the SNL band to blues school.......2002-06-16

this is an interesting album. I have been a Buddy Guy fan for a long long time and I've seen him live on a few occasions. While I like the sound of the album and it does have some great moments I just don't get the whole SNL band thing. While great technical musicians they just don't know the blues and it is glaringly obvious when one of them attempts a solo. G.E. Smith's weak excuse for a call and response section with Buddy during, "Damn Right I've Got the Blues" sounds like my cat when she is wining about being hungry. Buddy will throw out some amazing guitar line and smith will answer with something that a ten-year-old would play while learning how to bend the strings. Pathetic! the only other soloist who keeps up with Buddy on this album is the amazing Johnny Johnson on piano. the man is just a legend and he does show it here. This album seems to be another attempt to make Buddy palatable to the casual blues fan, (The ones who think Keb' Mo' is a blues artist), in an attempt to widen his audience and from a financial standpoint I can't blame him or his record company. Ih short, if you are a true Buddy Guy fan you'll find this album to sound pretty waterd down so I wouldn't rush out and buy it. If you are someone who is interested in learning about the blues and have heard about Buddy Guy then I would recommend buying this album simply because Buddy's playing is normally very intense and it may scare off someone who is not familiar with his style so start with this one and then build into the real good stuff.

Real Live Woman finds Trisha Yearwood fully embracing the inner soft-rocker she's flirted with for years, and so it makes sense that it's the most fully realized album of her career. Her Cali-rock jones gets a fix here thanks to a Linda Ronstadt cover ("Try Me Again") and a guest shot by Jackson Browne on "Sad Eyes," a Los Angeles-era Springsteen number, but the voice remains hers--a modern-day country girl who's been uptown and likes it. The result is an album that finds the middle ground between the sonic options won for country radio by the Dixie Chicks, the adult-contemporary blues of Wynnona and Bonnie Raitt, and perhaps even, amazingly, a bit of Garth's Chris Gaines project. The title track's the real keeper, a country-soul anthem that revisits the character Yearwood first introduced in songs like "She's in Love with the Boy" and "XXX's and OOO's" and finds her a good deal wiser now--and feeling blessed to know it. --David Cantwell

This cd really didn't have any notable songs on it. A couple of the songs had basically the same tune as some of her newer ones, such as Jasper County Line. She didn't really use her vocals like she is capable of doing. Was disappointed all the way around with this cd.

Trisha as good as ever.......2005-07-08

Like so much of the music recorded in Nashville, this album mixes pop and rock with country. It won't please purists who only like traditional country but it is a brilliant example of contemporary country music. Several great singer-songwriters contributed songs for this album, some being original while others are covers. Many of the songs are ballads but there is plenty of variety here.

The set opens with Where are you now, written by Mary Chapin Carpenter and Kim Richey who lend their considerable vocal talents to the track by providing harmony vocals. Next is One love, written by three co-writers including Kimmie Rhodes, a singer-songwriter who is highly rated by those familiar with her music but who has never achieved the level of success that she deserves. The third song here, Sad eyes, is by Bruce Springsteen, whose songs have been covered by several country singers. Trisha's chosen song from his catalog suits her ideally with Jackson Browne on harmony vocals.. The oldest song here is Try me again, a cover of a seventies song by Linda Ronstadt and Andrew Gold. Almost as old is Wild for you baby, but this is a song that I hadn't heard before I bought this album.

The title track is by Bobby Cryner who recorded two albums on major labels in the nineties but failed to get airplay on American country radio stations. If she can't record her own songs, at least it's great to hear this song recorded by Trisha. Matraca Berg recorded three albums of her own but has had far greater success as a songwriter. Here, Matraca co-wrote three songs - Come back when it ain't raining (her co-writer on this one was Harlan Howard), I'm still alive and When a a love song sings the blues.

This album, recorded nearly ten years after Trisha made her debut with She's in love with the boy, finds Trisha still in top form and able to adapt to changing musical trents. All Trisha's fans should enjoy this album.

better and better every time..........2005-02-23

it seems that with every album yearwood records she gets better and better, and not only her voice, she takes her music to new and exiting places. this album is such a thrill to listen to. as she opens with the song "WHERE ARE YOU NOW", and brings us her version of Springsteens "SAD EYES", and other WONDERFUL SONGS like matraca berg and Harlan Howards "Come Back When It Ain't Rainin'"
and Matraca Berg and Ronnie Samosets "When A Love Song Sings The Blues". Every song is as great as the last, just when you think it can't posobly get any better, it does... this cd is worth a listen.

One of her best, if not her best album yet........2003-12-01

On Yearwood's 2000 album REAL LIVE WOMAN, we find her in a more reflective mood. 1998's WHERE YOUR ROAD LEADS was very crossover country, this brings her back into a more folk atmosphere that is more gritty and raw in terms of sound and production than its predessor. There was only two singles on here, the title track and the opening "Where Are You Now". The title track was a mild hit that resonated with listeners, especially females. The song explains that she might not be a movie star, or not the perfect size, but she's ok with who she is. She does an inspired cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Sad Eyes". "Some Days" is a very sad, but real, ballad. Same goes for "I Did". She also does a great cover of Linda Ronstadt's "Try Me Again". Other standout ballads include "Wild For You Baby", "I'm Still Alive" and "When A Love Song Sings The Blues". There isn't much uptempo to be found here, but it's ok. This is just a great emotional album from one of the most talented vocalists in country music.

Amazing Album.......2003-01-17

With all of the overwrought, overproduced material coming out of Nashville these days, it's incredibly refreshing to find an artist who is committed to making good music. Yearwood isn't traditional country by any stretch of the imagination: in some ways, she's even more pop than Faith Hill or Shania Twain in that she has a really diverse set of musical influences, all of which show up here. But Trisha is country by virtue of her ability to sing like she's living a song, and make the listener live it too.

Trisha has some amazing pipes, as she shows in "Where Are You Now," but she's so comfortable with her own voice and the incredible material that she lets the songs and the arrangements do the talking. The most affecting track for me is "Some Days," an incredible showcase for Yearwood's interpretative skills and Dan Dugmore's dobro. Her cover of "Sad Eyes" is so achingly sad and yearning that she can stop a listener in his/her tracks. "Too Bad You're No Good" is a refreshing change of pace, and Emmylou Harris really rips up the song with Yearwood. "I'm Still Alive" is surprisingly triumphant and shows a spark of tongue-in-cheek humor.

Unlike Faith Hill or Shania Twain, more bent on Cover Girl glamor or astronomical sales (and generally both), Yearwood seems comfortable in her niche, particularly in her bare-bones rendition of "Real Live Woman." And unlike phenoms like LeAnn Rimes or Lila McCann, she's lived life and is mature enough to sing about the "real stuff" without sounding out of depth or genre.

This is probably the strongest of Trisha's efforts, although she's made some pretty fantastic albums over the length of her career. I'm looking forward to more great stuff!

Arthur is a show that's entertaining for all ages I think. The songs are hillarious and fun. Nothing makes me happier than listening to good ol' Arthur singing about a library card.

Looking for the Crazy Bus Song?.......2006-12-15

For those of you who watch the Arthur TV series on PBS, I'm sure you have heard the "Crazy Bus" song in some of the episodes. Sometimes you might think, hmm, does the song "Crazy Bus" really, really exist? I had that kind of thought when I first discovered this CD two years ago. Before I even bought it, I thought I was going to like it right off the bat. And after listening to the audio samples off the Internet, I knew I was going to like it then. So I bought it, and I loved it - every single track! I even like the "Crazy Bus" song, which is D.W.'s favorite song. But Arthur says that song is "annoying," according to a letter written by him you will find on the back cover of the album. If you're wanting to find "Crazy Bus," this is the CD you're looking for!

This CD contains songs from the PBS hit animated Arthur series, and they are sung by the actual Arthur characters. Most of the songs were baced on episodes from the first 4 seasons of the program. That's right, you'll get to hear Arthur (voiced by Michael Yarmush), Buster, Francine, Binky, the Brain, Mr. Ratburn, and D.W. sing their songs on this fun CD. In the liner notes that come with the CD, not only can you sing along with the songs, you get to see the characters comment on some of the songs. You'll see the characters comment with speech bubbles for the songs. Also, near the back of the liner notes, you'll find a list of the voiceovers who provided the characters' voices for the show at the time the CD was produced. And further more, you'll hear familiar singers like Ziggy Marley and Art Garfunkel.

Theme Song: Arthur says it's his favorite song. Sung by Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers.

Library Card: This song is heard in the episode, "Arthur's Almost Live, Not Real, Music Festival." You hear a lot of the Arthur characters in this song.

Crazy Bus (No Way!): D.W. begins to play her favorite song, but Arthur says it's not going to be played on the CD.
It's the second shortest track.

Arthur VS. The Piano: As I heard this song, I imagined Arthur himself practicing the piano. The song had a little bit of classical bits like Beethoven. My favorite lyric was "I'm sorry, Mr. Bach." Near the end, Arthur thought he hit a wrong note, but he liked the sound and begins to get down while playing the finale.

The UFO Song: Those who watch the Arthur show know that Buster is crazy over aliens, outer space, and UFO's. I liked the harmonica music in that song.

Meek For A Week: Francine sings about the time when Muffy made a bet with her that she couldn't be nice for an entire week. Based on the episode of the same name.

Jekyll And Hyde: Another song from the "... Music Festival" episode, the Brain sings about a time when he read a book which made him dream he became that character. The electric guitar music heard in the song really revs it up!

My Dog Pal: This is really a series of short songs on one track. It begins with Arthur singing about his dog, Pal. Then D.W. says that it's boring and she tells Arthur to sing something else. And then Buster, Brain, and Francine make him change the song again and again. It all leads back to Arthur's first song - about Pal. It's a musical chain reaction!
Based on the book and TV episode, "Arthur Writes a Story."
This is the longest track on the CD.

Matalij Ja Mustii (The Binky Song): There are no lyrics for this song in the liner notes because it's sung in Finnish. Heard in the episodes, "Binky Rules" and "Meet Binky." The actual artist who sang the song is from Finland, Varrtina. This is one of my favorites off this CD. Even though I don't understand the song, I liked the melody and the music.

Crazy Bus (I Said No, D.W.!): Once again, D.W. wants to play her favorite song. Arthur stops her again. This is the shortest track of all - it lasted for about 12 seconds.

My Night Light: Binky sings about how his night light keeps him from having nightmares at night. I liked the lyric "I love my night light more than I love ice cream." I thought it was funny and cute at the same time, and it's my favorite lyric. Based on the Arthur episode, "Night Fright."

Go To Sleep: In this song, D.W. tries to put her baby sister Kate to sleep. She doesn't sing her a lullaby, she tries putting her to sleep with Rock and Roll music! Before I even heard the whole song - I heard the audio samples of course - I had a feeling that her mom would tell her to be quiet when the song was over. I was right on the dot! Try putting a baby to bed with THAT music.

Thinking Tune: There was no singing at all, in fact, there wasn't even any music. There was just the sound of a diggery-do, which almost makes you want to meditate. Brain says he likes to think, and I agree. No wonder they call him THE BRAIN!

Lucky Pencil: Arthur sings about a time when he found a pencil that gives him good luck. He soon finds he doesn't need such a charm like a pencil for luck, you just have to believe in yourself. I once had that kind of experience. The song is based on the TV episode, "Arthur's Lucky Pencil."

Homework: Mr. Ratburn, the teacher, loves to sing about his favorite subject, HOMEWORK! This is another song from the "... Music Festival" episode. Compared to the song heard in the episode, it's slightly longer on the CD.

Poetry Club: As heard in the episode, "I'm a Poet," we hear Francine, Buster, and Arthur recite poems that they wrote themselves. Again D.W. pops up to try to get a little bit of for "Crazy Bus" song on the album.

The Ballad Of Buster Baxter: Sung by Art Garfunkel of Simon and Garfunkel, it tells the story of when Buster went on a trip around the world with his dad. Based on the episode of the same name.

Leftovers Goulash: Sung to the tune of the Carmon opera and other classical melody bits, Arthur sings about his dad who is a cook. Unlike other cooks, Arthur and D.W.'s dad makes pretty disgusting concoctions for dinner. This is yet another song from the "... Music Festival" episode.

Crazy Bus (What's This Doing Here?): Finally, we get to hear the entire "Crazy Bus" song. I didn't mind it at all when I heard the whole thing for the first time. But when the song was over, Arthur wanted to call on Mom for D.W. playing that song. Unfortunately, the CD was over!

I loved the whole, entire CD! I could listen to it again and again and I'd never tire of it. It's one of my top 5 favorite albums I've collected over the years. Arthur and Friends is a recommendation to those who have read the Arthur books and watched the television series. I give the whole album - all the tracks - an overall perfect 10!

Entertaining and Educational........2006-09-15

Taking a cue from the PBS animated show on which it is based, ARTHUR AND FRIENDS is an entertaining and educational album of music that both children and adults can enjoy. The only song that comes close to resembling a typical children's tune is "Crazy Bus" which is the last song on the album and "wasn't supposed" to be on the album (according to Arthur). Many of the tunes are quite catchy and most are filled with educational nuggets, e.g. "Library Card" is a song full of gold nuggets ranging from Ray Bradbury to Dr. Suess waiting to be mined.

FANTASTIC-A MUST HAVE.......2006-04-24

My son absolutely ADORES this cd. Since he was 3 months old he has loved to watch Arthur on PBS. If he's way past tired or on a long road trip this calms him down INSTANTLY. It has the real theme song not that regaee version. And Art Garfunkel singing The Ballad of Buster Baxter is incredible. We couldn't live without it. I'd recommend to EVERYONE!!!

a sneaky way to educate the kids.......2006-01-13

i'm a high school senior (almost 18 yrs old) and arthur remains hands-down one of my favorite tv shows. i've adored it since late elementary school, when it first came out, and all the songs on the cd are quite familiar to me. my friend just gave it to me over the holidays because it was pretty much the first music anyone has ever seen my self-conscious self dance to.

what i must really note, however, which has amazed me for years and that others seem to have overlooked, is that arthur and the songs on this cd are often clever satire or social commentary. while this is something i could talk about for hours, i really want to point out that "leftovers goulash" is a medley that combines lyrics about arthur's dad's crazy dishes with famliar tunes from mozart and the opera carmen. furthermore, the homework song sounds a great deal like a temptations song and the piano song is great fun based on the famous "do-re-mi" from the sound of music as well as pieces of "fur elise" and other well-known piano tunes.

this is an awesome way to introduce musical classics to your kids. i know it did so for me! =D

Great compilation.......2002-05-10

I don't actually own this particular compilation, however, since I own nearly every recording represented on these discs...I think I'm qualified to comment. This is a wonderful representation of the high quality of work that DRG Records does.
The previous review is way off the mark. This is definitely not a waste of time or money. This is 25 years of preserving Broadway shows, Off-Broadway shows, studio recordings (mostly from the city center concerts), etc. So what if they "aren't as good as the original", DRG is preserving many recordings and artists that other mainstream labels don't or won't. You have wonderful recordings from Brian Stokes Mitchell, Nathan Lane, Debbie Gravitte, Tyne Daly, Anthony Perkins, Joanna Gleason, Marin Mazzie, Carol Burnett, Heather Headley, Patti LuPone, Barbara Cook, etc., and many of these are from Original Cast Recordings just as they appeared on Broadway. This is an excellent sampler of the work going on at DRG. No...I'm not an employee...just an avid listener and collector of theatre recordings.

A disappointment.......2001-12-15

There's a reason you've probably never heard of most of the songs and shows on this album, not to mention most of the artists. This is a second-rate collection of second-rate numbers performed by mostly second-rate artists. In the case of the shows that were revivals, the performances on the original cast recordings were better. Don't waste your money.

Awesome CD!.......2006-03-04

It's not too often that a Live CD captures the energy of a band, but then again, not too many bands have the kind of energy the Randy Rogers Band has. This is no studio CD. This is live. I've seen these guys live many times (unfortunately I did miss this recording), and this CD captures their energy. The music is something that's hard to describe. You just have to listen to it. Randy's voice is just amazing. Brady's fiddle playing is unbelievable. This is just one of those "must have" cds.

SDRE Live CD.......2003-07-06

This cd is great. I never heard of SDRE before I heard it from a friend THIS album from a friend and it sounded pretty good. Picked up a copy, and it's amazing.

This is a much better cd than many people realize. I'm not sure what problems some people have with it-I realize the mix is good in some areas and a bit 'off' in others-but it still sounds great and I think many of these songs find their definitive versions on this disc. This is the first cd by SDRE I heard and I've since purchased all their other albums. The "Pink" lp is my favorite but this cd and "Diary" are close behind. Should not be missed. Worth the price of admission just for "Song About an Angel" and "Guitars & Video Games", both of which are better than the album versions.

Recommended.

AMAZING CD IF YOU'RE A DIEHARD SDRE FAN!.......2001-10-18

I had first heard that they even had a LIVE SDRE cd on a college radio station. I had called to request "IN CIRCLES" & they only had the live version. Immediately after hearing it on the radio; I went to Amazon.com to find it & purchased it.
That song live is definitely amazing. Jeremy Enigks voice is soo passionate.
All the other songs on the cd are from various cd's (past & present)Live versions are sometimes worse than cd recordings. BUt, this live version rocks!

Yes it sounds vary good.......2001-09-13

I had heard on SDRL before and had been intrested in checking out some of there music. So the story goes, that one day i was looking in my local used music store. There it was. Right in the been. I had planned on buying this album brand new but to tell you the truth i probely would't get around to it for a while. But since it was only [a price] i picked it up. People have told me that this was avary good band and since i liked nirvana alot i would like this.I am a firm beliver that Sunny Day Real Estate is a great band and a great album. When listening to this album it is easy to forget that it was recored live. The sound is so good that it sounds like it was recored in a studeo. Buy this disk!

Quite Average.......2001-08-26

This album contains 6 songs from How It Feels... and 5 songs from Diary/Lp2. While some of the songs ("Days Were Golden," "in Circles", "Pillars") gain a lot live, there are many songs that sound either exactly like the album version or worse. "Every Shining Time You Arrive" doesn't work as well without the keyboard solo, and "The Prophet," great song as it is, needs the aboriginee chanting to capture the full effect. Also, "J'Nuh" fails to capture the same atmosphere it did in the studio. Overall, you will enjoy this if you're a hard core fan of Sunny Day Real Estate, otherwise, stay away from this.
