Missing 80's Hard Rock Classic.......2007-04-10
There was a LOT of 80's Hard Rock/Semi-Metal Garbage that sold a bunch more copies and got bunch more airplay circa-1986 than this, and that was a shame. Gary Moore refers to music from this period as his "Billy Idol" phase and if you don't look at photos, it's not a totally inaccurate comparison. Gary got a bit more contemporary, refined his songwrighting, and still kept the guitar chops as sharp as ever. A little disjointed due to the lack of a solid band. Too bad the Gary Moore/Glenn Hughes partnership couldn't work out as it appeared to have much potential, and it is REALLY too bad we never again got to hear Gary work with the dear, departed Phil Lynott.
Bonus points if Amazon gives you an offer to buy this one and Gary's follow-up disc Wild Frontier at a special price. Do it now.
This one's for you, Markie!.......2006-08-14
While I am by no means an expert in Gary Moore's music, IMHO this is definitely the best of his rock albums. It certainly outshines "Victims of the Future" and "Corridors of Power," both of which are also good. I have had the cassette tape since 1986--it's a road trip staple of mine--and when it finally died I replaced it with this CD, which has some extra tracks.
One of my favorite 80s album.......2006-04-15
I used to have this album on tape but lost it and totally forgot about it. I still have Gary Moore's album (as a record) "Wild Frontier" which is also an excellent album. But I think "Run for Cover" is even better. As other reviewers noticed "Out Of My System" was not on the orignal record (it was at least not on my tape). I could probably also live without the bonus tracks. The song "Listen To Your Heartbeat" on the other hand was on my compilation and I do like the song. I'm definitally going to buy this CD for good old times sake. I'm probably also going to buy the "Wild Frontier" as CD. The track "Empty Rooms" is one of my favorites, but then again, I like actually all songs on the original album.
G.M........2005-07-22
Wish Gary was still rockin like he use to do,even though some of the blues is cool.He can Jam with the best Hard Rockers.Rock on G.M.!
Good job by Gary........2005-03-19
Reviewer Kael said it all about two songs that, alone, are reponsible for me downgrading two stars from this otherwise remarkable album by one of the most underestimated guitarists ever. OUT OF MY SYSTEM is so bad, but so bad, I think for you to have an idea compare it to a bad Poison song... It's a cheap and half-hearted attempt at sounding totally pop / hair metal. No wonder in the original pressings of this album (in CD format), this song was not included.
But, to compensate for it, we have som gems here, "Military Man" being the best.

Brutal.......2003-11-03
Probably the best cover album next to Slayer's Undisputed Attitude. A lot of good stuff here, and I gotta give props to Eric Klinger for picking up some of the vocal duties. Not to sideline Gary, but I'd like to hear more of him on their regular studio albums. 'Weeds' is just killer and 'Iron Fist' smokes. My only beef is with their choice to cover 'South of Heaven.' Yeah, it's good and heavy, but they should have gone with something like 'Antichrist' or 'Die by the Sword.' Regardless, it's an excellent album.
Run For Cover.......2003-08-27
Hardcore legends Pro-Pain have released their 9th studio CD "Run For Cover". The disc is comprised of cover songs from artists who have influenced Pro-Pain throughout their musical careers. Songs from such artists as Discharge, Sepultura, Celtic Frost, Operation Ivy, Slayer and many more are spotlighted here on this 14 song musical onslaught. Admittedly the band is not and never has been a cover band by nature, but the heavy hitting quartet has produced a CD of cover songs that pays homage to the artists who have inspired them most "musically, spiritually and intellectually." This has to be one of the most intense recordings of cover songs that I have heard in years and yet each song maintains the level of integrity that they were originally recorded with. Probably the one song that is the purest to the original is their rendition of the Motorhead classic "Iron Fist". Vocalist Gary Meskil almost sounds identical to Lemmy (Motorhead) on this song and he should be proud of the job he did on this song. This is a great CD from Pro-Pain and I think that fans of the band will be happy with "Run For Cover" overall and it may even appeal to fans of some of the bands that are honored on this recording.

If you want a different take on Rush classics then this is 4 u.......2007-05-17
This an interesting little cd we have here. Members of various Rush tribute bands formed this "super group" of cover artists. They seem to have picked Rush fan favorite tracks to cover and do a nice job replicating the originals. The highlights probably are Limelight and The Trees, these two selections seems to have a little extra kick to them. The vocalist for the group sounds like a cross beteween Geddy Lee and the lead singer from the band Queensryche and does a good job hitting all the signature Geddy vocal high spots. All in all not a bad cd if your a fan of Rush it's a good variation on songs you've heard the original versions of probably 100 times already.

A Home Run in The Nylons' library...........2003-03-21
1996 was the year that tribute and covers albums were all the rage. The Nylons were requested by their record company to pitch in and gave them the appropriately titled "Run For Cover." A choice collection of nine sixties and fifties pop songs, The Nylons again show why they are the best of the A capella bands recording today. They again choose a Beatles' selection, this time "Lady Madonna," to match their distinct style to a classic. (It also sets the tone for the disc's title, as the opening lyric is "See how they run...") Included are beautifully smooth versions of The Beach Boys' "God Only Knows" and Stevie Wonder's "My Cherie Amour," and for a good chuckle, a true to form cover of "Stranded In The Jungle."
But the two best moments begin near "Run For Cover's" end, when the group breaks into a cover of Bronksi Beat's signature song "Smalltown Boy." The risk is in the vocal. Jimmy Sommerville has one of the most distinctive falsettos in music, and this is a deeply personal/politcal song. The Nylons not only manage to match Sommerville's personal potency, but also to maintain the song's vocal integrity. The second moment belongs to the album's original, "Human Family." A plea for understanding and compassion in confusing times, it's as relative today as it was when Marc Connor wrote it prior to his passing in 1991. That The Nylons finally felt comfortable to record it after such a long time is a gift to us as listeners.
Great harmonies.......2001-02-21
Canada's premier acapella group are fabulous. This 1996 album contains 11 wonderful songs including one written by The Nylons themselves. Backed only with percussion, these guys have terrific harmony. A modern-day barbershop quartet!!
Sweeeeeet~.......1999-12-04
At first I didn't really like this album, but then I listened to it more and more, it grew on me. And now I have my favorites and they are wonderful. Tracks #2,6 are especially the best!

Album Description
1985 album for the Irish blues-rock guitarist.
Customer Reviews:
Gary's pop metal album...........2004-07-28
RUN FOR COVER has the dubious distinction of having two of Gary's most pedestrian songs ever: the obnoxious "Out Of My System" and the abomination "Listen To Your Heartbeat". Also, the album has that loathed reverbed drum sound typical of the pop metal / hair metal bands of the eighties.
But, since we're talking about master Gary Moore, you'll find some gems here. "Military Man" is a masterpiece, while the title track rocks harder than ever. This remastered version also has a good booklet containing the lyrics. Gary used different line-ups for each song, including hiring the services of Glenn Hughes to add lead vocals to some tracks.
By a large margin, this is not his best hard / metal album.
The last of the hard ones.......2002-12-04
Run for cover is the last HARD ROCK album of Gary moore before he released the not great at all Wild Frontier(too much Keyboards)and then went back to his roots:the blues.
On this album Gary Moore shares the vocals with Glenn Hughes and Phil Lynott, which is certainly good news, it also features Phil Lynott's last recordings OUT IN THE FIELDS and MILITARY MAN.
Run for cover contains very good HARD ROCK songs, strongly re-enforced by Moore's brilliant guitar job, but most of the tracks on this album are NO MORE than good HARD ROCK and I probably expected more from Moore, Lynott and Hughes.
Also a "remake" of Empty rooms, quite useless.
Not a bad album but weaker than Victims of the future, corridors of power or Dirty Fingers.3 and 1/2 stars would be a better rate...so yes depending on the fact that you already own a previous HARD MOORE album or not, that would be a 3 or 4 stars.
One Of The Best.......2002-10-14
This is one of Gary's hardest rocking albums. His playing as usual is superb and his vocals are far better than he is utilising today. Maybe part of the reason is the heavyweight guests backing him: Glenn Hughes and the late Phil Lynott. Both contribute much and it shows. Not a weak track to be found. Great sound quality. If you prefer the harder stuff to his blues excursions of late, this will satisfy. 10 Tracks/45.45.
A better representation of '80s era metal.......2002-02-25
The true standouts are Phil Lynott penned Military Man and Run for cover. Besides being great rockers, these tunes have lyrics not common among the genre ie strong political themes. The musicanship is very strong. This was the peak period for Gary with After the War marking the end. Reach for the Sky as always been a personal favorite, especially as a live song.
Keep on rockin'and rollin',keep on singing the blues.......1999-10-20
The line above is from'Nothing to Lose',a great cut on this album where the vocal duties are performed by none other than Glenn Hughes.Stellar musicians accompany Moore on this record:Phil Lynott,Bob Daisley,Don Airey. It's a very diverse album showcasing Moore as vocalist, songwriter('Empty Rooms','Listen to Your Heartbeat'),guitar virtuoso(sometimes reminiscent of Santana).Check out the ZZ Top-ish'All Messed Up'.Very much underrated, this is Gary Moore at his strongest.

Customer Reviews:
Simply The Best Of The Best!.......2004-11-08
The previouse 3 reviewers should be shot( or at least scolded ) for not giving this 5 stars!
This 2CD set is from the now defunct Axe Killer Records out of France. They released only 6 or so of these "Back To Black Collection Series" CD sets. The 2 CDs come housed in the coolest black leather bound books with silver flake art work and tons of rare photos and liner notes. Not to mention the unbelievable sound quality that these cds retain,SONIC!All haven been given the remastered treatment.
All are out of print and highly collectible. The other sets are from BOC,Scorpions,Whitesnake,Queensryche,Saxon, and Suicidal Tendancies. Each contains two albums complete with bonus tracks.
Now as for this Gary Moore collection it contains two of his best rock n' roll style albums,Corridors of Power & Run For Cover.
Featuring some great players like Ian Paice & Phil Lynot these albums are crisp blues hard edge rock that can even approach heavy metal at times.
Corridors of Power has the rocker Don't Take Me For A Loser and the heart felt ballad Always Gonna Love You.And one of my Favorite Gary Moore tracks Wishing Well. They've also tacked on 3 bonus cuts,Devil In Her Heart,Blinder and the excellent long Version of Empty Rooms.
Run For Cover has a little more polished edge production wise but is no less a rocker than Corridors.Out In The Fields is a great heavy song about the consequences of war and how the worlds not being able to get along will cause all to be subject to violence at some point."No flag no uniform ever stopped a bullet from a gun".
Also Empty Rooms appears in it's original form. One of the best ballads ever recorded.
There are two bonus cuts on Run For Cover,Still In Love With You and an unbelievable live version of Parisienne Walkways with the late great Phil lynot of Thin Lizzy fame on vocals.CLASSIC!
You can't go wrong here if you're a Gary Moore fan.And I urge you to pick up the other albums in this collection if you can find them. You won't be sorry.
Corridors of Power/Run for Cover, 23 Feb 02.......2002-02-24
Wow what a find. Up till now I had really only heard Gary playing the blues. But these two albums really rock. A great buy if you do not already have either one. This guy is truly amazing no matter what he plays.
2 albums, and 5 bonus tracks.......2001-03-14
Made in FRA in 2000, Serial# 3063312, Playing Time 115:20
This 2-disc set is part of "The Back To Black Collection", a series of re-issues exclusive to France with nice packaging, which includes a brief bio and all the lyrics.
Disc 1 is GM's 3rd album, 1982's "Corridors Of Power", plus 3 bonus tracks extracted from various singles: track 10 is from "Hold On To Love", track 11 is from "Shapes Of Things(Remix)" , and track 12 is from "Empty Rooms", (contrarily to what's in the liner notes). Unfortunately for those of us who have the limited edition version of the vinyl, which included a 7" recorded in concert, these tracks remain as of yet unreleased on CD.
Disc 2 is from one of GM's 1983 albums, "Run For Cover", with 2 extra tracks, once again from singles: track 11 from "Out In The Fields", and track 12 from "Empty Rooms", a different single than 1982's since it was re-recorded for "RFC".
This pair of albums present music that is fairly similar, blending rockers with slower tracks, and preceeded his shift into a bluesier direction.
Strong material, versatile performances from Mr. Moore; worth grabbing if you're missing 1 or both albums.
Corridors of Power/Run for Cover.......2001-02-05
Two, almost long lost, Gary Moore classics, remastered with long lost rare bonus tracks. Blinder is among the rarest, until now, only found on vinyl,it alone is worth the price of admission. Gary smokes throughout, a must have collection for any die hard fan, or for those who are just getting acquainted with his earlier, pre-blues, works.
