Album Description
Channel 23 calls their music Tryptafunk. It is a blend of heavy soul, funk, dub, rock, tryp-hop and hard bop, performed by some of San Francisco's most potent musicians. Memorable vocal songs remain the focus of this cd, however it is peppered with some experimental flavors, and ripping instrumentals. Recorded on all tube gear, the sound is full, raw, and fat. Running at 66:30, with 17 tracks you get over an hour of one of San Francisco's most innovative new groups.

Awesome.......2003-05-28
...one of my favorite bands now channel 23 flows through different types of music and gets into some pretty funky grooves. buy it and you wont be dissapointed
Wow, Float's my boat.......2003-02-24
I picked this up after finding eenor thru the Frog Brigade shows, I was blown away by his performance. Where is this band, how can I see them? This band should be on the Grammys tonight winning something. The cd is long and covers lots of styles and I like the way it travels, takes me on a ride. Too hard to describe here, just buy it. Somebody get this band to tour please.
So smokin', you'll think you've been cremated..........2001-11-15
Anyone remember S.F. locals The Limbomaniacs? How about South-Bay wonders Psychefunkapus? Of course we all know about Primus, and for those who don't know, there is a Les Claypool connection with this band.
Well, this is a mish-mash of them all, with a little Oingo Boingo thrown in for good measure. A somewhat ok comparison would be like the outfit Ulu, only a little more funky. It is (bottom)-slappin, grease-drippin, funked-out, jazzed-out, music. Drips like butter of a hot biscuit, as some may say. For a measely (cost of cd), you cannot only work to get these boys some new shoes (which they all need), but you can get a heapful of some of the best tunes you'll ever come across, from one of the most awesome bands around (despite the fact that noone beyond Shattuck Ave or Haight St. seems to know who they are).
Get it, get it, get it. Should you wish to try and experiment with other S.F. mind-bending efforts, look for some stuff by Laundry, El Stew, Praxis, Death Cube K and even Ben Wa. Also look for the release from No Forcefield which features Ler and Brain of Primus fame. And, for the utter amazement of what can be acheieved through a six-string guit, check out Buckethead. As Claypool has stated, Buckethead is "actually Neil Schon with Trey Anastasio on his shoulders." Go figure that one out.
But, at any rate, this is HIGHLY worth the effort. Get it and you will not be disappointed. Look up top too....they even let you sample ALL the songs. How can you go wrong?
An endothermic galactic tryptafunkic journey of music..............1999-10-21
Is this band really from our planet? I hope so!!! The dynamics of these artists together make it hard to explain in words how I'm moved everytime I listen to this disc.Their sound is just like they said: warm, raw, and DYNAMIC! Songs like Buzzfly, Float, Room, and Gonzalger Quaalude make you want to search out their next live gig and be part of the 'here and nowness' that this band is all about. You won't be disappointed. FLOAT is one splendid effort! Congrats to CHANNEL 23!!!
Gonzalager Quallude' definitely puts this San Francisco quartet.......1999-07-11
"Channel 23" into their own league. We're talking skills! This band can play, (the drummer is making meat-by-products on his kit quicker than any Wolfgang Puck, the horn player has got breath!) and sing and write unique, worldly pop-music. When we listen to it, we think of a rather steamy amphitheatre in San Paulo, Brazil dancing and sweating to this very dynamic and expressive band all night long. This band should be on tour with Dave Matthews, Mana, or 311-because they cook!

Save your money!.......2001-08-13
Buy this Italian import CD package only if you are a true Santana fan from way back in the late 60s. If you are not a die-hard fan or serious collector, you will be disappointed in this CD - so, save your money. You would be better off buying their first three albums on CD or simply their hits collections. It is not that the songs are bad on this live recording, they just sound that way. The songs are pure, early Santana. However, the live recordings do not complement the songwriting. Santana was definitely better in the studio. But, it is not the live renditions that are so bad, it is the sound quality. Very poor, indeed! But, then again - they were recorded back in 1969, long before live recordings by great rockers such as Peter Frampton made it imperative that the standards of live recordings be lifted. All of us remember how poorly the Woodstock live recordings sounded. Well, this is much the same - dull, hollow, fuzzy! Good music. Bad recording!
A good Live raw jam.......1999-12-31
It's good to hear the Santana Band in a raw jam featuring Michael Shrieve and Chepito Areas. The latter were absent from the Live at the Fillmore '68 CD. S.F. Mission District is a pretty decent live recording which allows the Santana fan to listen to the same band who played at Woodstock '69. This one is a must for the true Collector.
