    This CD has the demo tapes for the Beach Boys first several recording sessions. The music is rough, but there is heart here. I would recommend this CD soley on the psycho-death-killer supreme version of "Surfer Girl," whic I believe is better, aye, far better, than the studio version we are all familiar with.

    If you like the Beach Boys, then you like Jan and Dean. This is a nice sampling of some of their hits. Brian Wilson co-wrote Surf City, so it is appropriate for them to be on the same disc.

    How can you argue with music from the greatest surfer groups of all times. I am a young adult, but I was fortunate enough to see the Beach Boys in concert a couple of years ago, and they have not lost their touch. This compilation of the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean is a bit short, but every second of the album is quality. The sound is fresh and refreshing, and still has merit in today's society. There are plenty of recordings and compilations available for these two groups, but any beginner who wants a solid introduction to these 7 individuals, this is the album to have.

      The cool thing about this flawed CD is that you have some Beach Boys songs on here that didn't make their first album...so it's hard to find these suckers. I LOVE Barbie (or Barbee or Barbi on some albums). Cool surfer stuff from Jan and Dean and the Beach Boys, and rare stuff like Heart and Soul (J&D) and What is a Young Girl Made Of (mostly a young man's dreams). The sound quality isn't the best and they actually fade the songs out before they're finished (God only knows why), but you still have your hand on some rare songs, and that's why you get 5 stars for this CD. It's not a typical Best Of CD.

        After much searching I finally found a seller who gave me a track list and I found out that this album is actually two albums in one, The first cd contains an album called The Beach Boys/ Jan & Dean Back to Back and the second cd contains The Beach Boys album titled Greatest Surfing Songs.

        It's cheaper to just buy those two albums.

          Where else are you going to find a Christmas album with songs by Doris Day, Joni James, Rosemary Clooney, Jo Stafford, Judy Garland, and Peggy Lee (some of the greatest female singers of all time)? Excellent male singers are represented, too, with carols sung by Dick Haymes, Perry Como, and Billy Eckstine. This is a well-chosen selection that features songs and recordings that are not the same old ones that are on dozens of other compilations. This one will be a holiday season favorite at your house.

          I'm really surprised to see so few reviews of this great collection as compiled by those fabulous folks at RHINO. I found every song to be a major winner, with the exception of Jack Jones' version of Jingle Bells. Now don't get me wrong, I've always liked Jack Jones & even have some of his cd's in my collection; but this is one of the worst covers of Jingle Bells I've ever heard. Maybe it's the arrangement but it sounds like he just couldn't be bothered recording the song. Oh well, it shouldn't matter-every other song is golden & are original versions. Highly recommended.
