"I am first and foremost a performer and I have been playing with these players for a long time. Ripping Slide Guitar Blues.......2006-02-14

I've always been an admirer of Roy Rogers - and I love slide guitar blues - a few of the current best purveyors being Johnny Winter, Sonny Landreth, Rory Block, John Mooney, Dave Hole, and Robert Randolph (pedal steel). Previously, some of Rogers' studio work has been a bit sterile, and sometimes his vocals can be wearing. However, in this case, Roy Rogers has set the standard in the warm, live setting of the Sierra Nevada Brewery "Big Room". All of the interaction with his longtime partner, Norton Buffalo, and the Delta Rhythm Kings, and the audience getting into it, make for an exciting listen. His slide guitar really shimmers and shakes, and all of the cuts (except for one), which were previously recorded on his other albums, really benefit from this live presentation. The recording quality itself is excellent. If you see this album - Get It!

There is no doubt that the this is a great collection of classic tunes from the Best of The Best. However, heed caution before purchasing. This is one of the Biggest headaches in trying to get the correct title.

Like many music labels like MTL & Samba Entertainment, SLAM Music / Prestige Records used the Same UPC [8711252091297] for most of the catalog, so you can actually receive any title. Anything from Compilation: Soul Party, Compilation: Let's Twist Again, Sister Sledge: Live, etc... Before ordering from any Marketplace vendor, be sure to inquire the actual title they are offering as many vendors list there inventories by UPC only. This way you are not disappointed that you received the wrong title and it will prevent an unfaulted headache to the marketplace seller.

There is no blame to the seller, only the label. Regardless of the labels farst, they do offer a great product. Collect them all... and enjoy!

I ORDERED THIS CD THE PACKAGEING AND CD SAID TAVARES LIVE. THE CD WAS AN OLD COUNTRY ARTIST.
I WAS SENT ANOTHER COPY THE SAME SAD MUSIC,THE SAME PACKAGING AND SAME SAD MUSIC. I PAID TWICE TO RETURN 2 CD'S I WOULDN'T KEEP FOR FREE IF OFFERED. BECAREFUL WHEN U OPENA BOX U THINK U WANTED. YOU MAY WANT TO RETURN IT RIGHT AWAY.

Why Oh Why???.......2005-09-09

I have heard bootlegs that sound crisper, cleaner and acoustically more sensitive. Of all their live performances over the years, why did they choose this release?

The sound is muddy, (almost sounds like a bootleg recording in the crowd), has no real highlight and misses the mark for the Jan and Dean Fan!!! Save your money and hope that somewhere in the J&D archives that there awaits a true gem rather than this non essential release!!!!

This is terrible. The sound is muddy mono and the screaming crowd almost sounds better than the music. Other then "Surf City" and "Dead Man's Curve" which features Jan I don't know who is singing what. This might be ok for those who saw them live late in their career and want a souvenir of their performance or collectors who want everything they did. As poor as the sound is, I did enjoy Jan having fun singing "Dead Man's Curve" which is why I gave it 2 stars.
