5 out of 5 stars Jaded... No More!!!.......2004-04-16

After my ex dumped me, I tried a lot of self-help books. I even tried to get backstage at a Tony Robbins show. But nothing seemed to work. I got so desperate that... well, one night, while I was up watching Nick at Night Reruns of Family Ties I tried to kill myself the way Alex did by drinking too much Cough Syrup (or was it amphetimines when he needed to study for a big test?). Anyway, as I felt myself drifting away, I saw Tina's face like a bright, beckoning angel. And, well, let's just say that I'm Jaded no More!!! Hurray!!! Anyway, I'm a huge fan of her latest project. You should definitely buy this CD. Especially if you have contemplated suicide or just like kick-ass jazzy rock with a little chili-pepper inspired edge. Toodles!

4 out of 5 stars Wow.......2003-11-03

I am shocked to say that it really isn't too bad.

5 out of 5 stars Gwen Stefani better watch her back...here comes Tina Yothers.......2001-12-01

I listened to the CD Confesions and was completely blown away by the vocal range of Tina Yothers. I was initially curious because like most folks, I had watched her on Family Ties many years ago, so I checked out this CD and was COMPLETELY blown away. The songs are all catchy tunes that keep you wanting more and more. Check out this CD today and you'll see what I mean...definitely a band to watch...

4 out of 5 stars Jaded - :).......2001-09-22

I was introduced to Jaded by an ex. She gave me a copy of the self-titled album 'Jaded' (sold at concerts) and I liked every bit of it. I knew I had to buy Confessions when it came out. I bought it and gave it a listen...almost as good as 'Jaded', but definately not bad by any means. I am awaiting receipt of jadedonline (sold through their website).
All in all, buy it, you'll like it!

Album Description

Showcasing clever lyricism and engaging melodies, Good Morning Beautiful is a sure-fire indie pop winner. Good Morning Beautiful makes resourceful use of the talents of every one of its five singer-songwriters. Truly a collaborative band, each member has co-written and sing on at least one song on the self-produced Good Morning Beautiful. Irving's blending of wildly catchy pop harmonies and a solid rhythm section produce their special brand of pop magic. Even the most jaded and cynical pop scenesters will find themselves moving to the beat of these contagious tunes. Jumping smoothly from the animated L-O-V-E to the curiously affecting Did I Ever Tell You I'm in Love with Your Girlfriend to the melancholic beauty of Holiday, this record has it all. The effortless segue from the upbeat, energetic pop sound of A Very Frivolous Distribution of Sundries to the tenderly graceful Faster than Steam elegantly demonstrates Irving's range and creativity.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Solid.......2004-04-18

I got into Irving after hearing "The Curious Thing About Leather" off their EP. I immediately bought that disc, and within a week of listening to it, I bought this CD. A lot of albums you have to listen to a few times to really get into, but this is like putting in a Beatles album - you know it's genius from the start. It only gets better as you begin to decipher what this band is 'really' trying to say. If you've got a girl/boyfriend, beware of #5 and embrace #6. They get the emotions flowin'. Oh,baby.

5 out of 5 stars La La La's don't get better than this..........2003-12-02

In a genre overcrowded with retro reaching and one too many copies of "Pet Sounds," Southern California's Irving hits the nail on the head. The Andy Paley produced "L-O-V-E" is certainly a happy highlight, but its one of many. Considering that there are five singer songwriters on the LP, "Good Morning Beautiful" is amazingly cohesive. The band's website uses words like "shimmery loveliness" and "best f****ing band in the world"; and while the former is right on point, the latter isn't too far off. If you don't believe me, you should see the spectacular quintet rock a live show. If you are unfamiliar with the group, a live show is a great place to start, because after their set, you'll surely be marching to the merch table. But if you've already played this CD until it skips, you should check out "I Hope You're Feeling Better Now" or label mate's (eenie meenie records) From Bubblegum to Sky's "Me and Amy and the Two French Boys." Either way: happy or sad, pop or indie pop, rain or shine, Irving released an album that hovers above the pack and sky rockets right to your heart.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but not enough To Die For / Jaded.......2004-03-22

Let's hear it for the Finns. It seems like every other time I find a group I like They're from Finland. Well, ok, it may not be half but it certainly is an inordinate amount of great bands for tiny Finland, population approx. five million. For starters they have Nightwish, Sentenced, Stratovarius, Hanoi Rocks, Sonata Arctica, H.I.M. and Children of Bodom. A glowing list of second tear performers include And Oceans, Charon, Silentium, Entwine, Kalmah, Apocayptica, The 69 Eyes, Eternal Tears of Sorrow and of course To Die For. To Die For were founded in the town of Kouvola in the mid-90's, but it wasn't until decade's end that they were snapped up by local Spinefarm Records and released their 1999 debut All Eternity. Jaded is their third full length album.

To Die For was one of my initial discoveries and I bought their CD Epilogue which was easy to like, having a style reminiscent of Depche Mode but faster and several then popular American bands. However, in the flood of new acquisitions, it was forgotten, that is until three years later I picked up their newest release Jaded.

Jaded is not a great recording but it is quite good. Like Epilogue, the music is accessible and similar to mainstream American music. In fact track 2, is a remake of Cutting Crew's 1987 hit, "Died in your Arms Tonight".

Most of the songs have a medium tempo and a similar sound, not unlike Depeche Mode or Tears for Fears. Tracks 1 and 7 have a faster hard rock pace and track 9 is somewhat slower. Track 9, "Silence Tells More", is in my estimation, the best track, followed by "Dying Embers" and the title track.

Highlights

"Dying Embers" is a medium fast paced number with double bass and chugging guitars. Good song but vocalist, Jape Peratalo's vocals tend to annoy me after awhile, perhaps because it's so distinctive. Regardless "Dying Embers" has a lot going for it including a catchy melody a some excellent instrumentation.

"Jaded" is a neat medium tempo song a little slower than "Dying Embers" but every bit a good. Again good mechanics accompany singer Peratalo's vocals which actually vary between low and high pitched and double tracked.

"Silence Tells More" my favorite, a catchy beat with male and female background vocals accompanying a whispering Peratalo on the chorus and sedated vocals on the verses. This is the kind of song that can stay in your mind and haunt you for days if not weeks.

Conclusion

As you probably suspect To Die For most likely would appeal to fans of the poprock and alternative music with a slightly heavier edge, of the late eighties and ninties. So if you like any of the bands listed below, you are a candidate.

Similar Bands

Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, Simple Minds, The Outfield, Oasis

4 out of 5 stars The worst album by To/Die/For, but still good enough.......2003-10-14

This is album is bad, if you compare it to the previous To/Die/For albums, but stills good enough to buy it, to much keyboards and just few guitars for my taste.

4 out of 5 stars Just plain fun.......2005-05-02

I first came across this album (and Ben Lee) when my ex-girlfriend started playing some of these tunes on her guitar one night. After she played the actual CD for me I thought that the "recorded in his bedroom" quality was exactly what made this album so refreshing and just plain fun. I ran out and bought it myself (well, once we broke up) and is now a staple in my "best of ..." list. What can I say ... I loved it.

2 out of 5 stars At least Silverchair can play their instruments.......2001-01-24

I bought this CD back in '95 after reading the Spin Magazine article about them, and boy, was I ever disappointed. This "album" (actually just a demo tape) was apparently recorded in Ben Lee's bedroom, and it shows -- I've heard karaoke tapes with far better sound qualities! As for the songs: they are somewhat amusing at first (especially "I Wish I Was Him", a tribute to Evan Dando of the Lemonheads), but they are nothing out of the ordinary, and Ben Lee and his friends can't sing or play their instruments. Oh yeah, I would stay away from Ben Lee's "critically-acclaimed" follow-up ("Grandpaw Would") as well. I've only seen the video for "Away With The Pixies" once, but it didn't seem like Ben's guitar-playing/singing/song-writing had improved at all. I remember when there were heated discussions about Silverchair vs. Noise Addict/Ben Lee. My 2 cents: stay away from them both.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous rockin' album!.......2004-03-13

This is just a grenade of an album. Melodic Rock/Hardrock at its best. Great vocals, guitars, and melodies. This is how Def Leppard, Bon Jovi are supposed to sound today if they would not have sold out or became pop musicians.
This is for anyone who loves Whitesnake, Blue Murder, Dokken, TNT etc.
There is no weak track on this album, infact they are all nearly a ten.

Just listen to the opener and 'Healer'. But I could have picked any song.

Great rockers and ballads. They deliver!

Of course they will not get any airplay today in this bloody US but nonetheless I hope some people will find this gem though these reviews.

Whoever is sick of screaming, fake attitude and bad musicianship nu metal and all the other sell out and superficial teenie music should try this band - I promise you won't be dissapointed.

Their other albums of course rock as well, try IV for example.

NEH Records brings you another great European Melodic Rock import from MTM Music in Germany. In March 1999, MTM MUSIC decided to sign a contract with JADED HEART. Their fourth album was produced in the summer of 1999 by BOBBY BARTH (AXE, GUILD OF AGES) at the NEH studios (Colorado). The demo tapes for their new album impressed us so much, that MTM and BOBBY BARTH agreed on a cooperation spontaneously. For MTM, this is the first German band under contract. With the production of this album in the States, JADED HEART will get further than ever. The album is a masterpiece of Melodic Rock that is sure to impress.

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Best Germans Ever (almost as good as the Scandinavien Bands).......2002-11-27

This is some of the best Melodic- Rock CDs coming from Europe.
The 3rd title "Way back home" alone is worth the price of buying this one!
It has everything of TREAT, STAGE DOLLS, TALISMAN, RETURN and so on (from Scandinavia), but sounds a little bit more like BON JOVI, which, I guess, allow an "easy buying" for the Americans without having any regret.
I love the softer songs, but you know, your intentions may change for days when you like the harder ones the more.
So you will never be fed up of hearing to this masterpiece and make all your friends visit at once your house (..and they WON'T get away anymore ever!!)

5 out of 5 stars Newer Metal Force From Germany, Ready To Break Out.......2001-12-09

JADED HEART is one of the hopeful mid-careered German pop metal bands contemporary of Slaughter, Danger Danger, Firehouse and Nelson twins. They formed a band in 1990 and made their first debut in 1994.

IV, also one of my all time favorites, is their fourth album in 1999. It is hard but really pop as well. Their music is metal version of the Eagles and some influence of Firehouse, Whitesnake and Europe can be seen. Particularly Hey God Don't Hesitate is pure late 70s Eagles with a little bit harder edge.

They became famous in Germany by Bon Jovi covers so their vocal style reminds me a bit of Bon Jovi. Songwriting is superb. It has lots of sing-along songs such as Live And Let Die, Way Back Home, Stonecold(it is Rainbow cover), With Your Eyes, But I Like It, She's A Woman. Their dramatic turn from ballad track to rocker(as seen in With Your Eyes/But I Like It) is amazing reminding me a bit of Fair Warning style. I take Easy Lover (cover of Phillip Baily and Phil Collins superhit in 1985) as a joke which should have been a Japanese bonus track.

Highly recommended if you love Whitesnake, Europe, Scorpions, Def Leppard and Bon Jovi as well as their contemporary American melodic rock bands.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!! THIS IS SOME AMAZING METAL!!!.......2001-04-22

Where do I start? WOW!! This is an amazing album!! The riffs are hard, the singer has pipes comparable to the one and only Sebastian Bach, the melodies are uncomparable. I wouldn't compare them to Bon Jovi at all. The guitar is much harder!! I compare the guitar to Judas, Scorpions, and Skid Row. The melodies aren't really comparable because they don't sound cheesy and over the top. But if I was too compare I'd say the melodies resemble WHitesnake and Firehouse. Germans again on top of the new rock movement!!! Scorpions first, now these guys. THese guys rock. It seems everything gets it's test in Europe first, then comes America. Us, trendy Americans think we always have the music first. It's funny though Europe always is the testing ground. WHat's big over there comes back here in a year or two. WELL ROCK IS COMING BACK!! ...

4 out of 5 stars Bon Jovi meets the Scorpions.......2000-08-26

Great melodic rock! Imagine, if you will, that the Bon Jovi tour bus collided with the bus carrying the Scorpions. After dusting themselves off, the survivors decided to carry on the musical legacies of their former bands. If this were to happen, I think that they would sound like German up-and-comers Jaded Heart. Great vocals, plenty of guitars, and (Heaven Forbid, grunge lovers) good production add up to a very satisfying CD. Try to find their 3rd album, Mystery Eyes, if you like this one. It's also quite impressive.
