If you were challenged to name five rock albums that epitomized the '70s, Frampton Comes Alive! should probably top the list. Former Humble Pie guitarist Peter Frampton recorded a few perfectly fine albums with his band Frampton's Camel, but it wasn't until some of those tracks were recorded at a live performance in San Francisco and released as Frampton Comes Alive! that he became a household name. Buoyant pop, sentimental ballads, arena rock--this album has it all. The double-LP package set sales records and contained three bona fide radio hits ("Baby, I Love Your Way," "Show Me the Way," and "Do You Feel Like We Do?"), one of which, shockingly enough, was over 14 minutes long. No wonder that, to many, the two-and-a-half-minute songs of the Damned and the Sex Pistols felt like a breath of fresh air a year or two later. --Lorry Fleming

5 out of 5 stars A Classic Sensation.......2007-07-01

My father owns many classic rock lps, but when i heard about frampton comes alive it was joyous to notice at times that live rock perfomances are just that much better, this here is one of framptons finest piece of work

4 out of 5 stars It takes me back.......2007-06-27

Have you ever heard a song that totally transports you back to a significant time in your past? Well, that's what Peter Frampton's "Comes Alive" album, excuse me, CD does for me. Back when I was 17 and riding around with my high school buddies, going to somebody's house after the football games for parties. Hanging out. The entire collection of songs causes me to have such feelings of nostalgia because it is such a great grouping of songs that Frampton does so well. Put it on, real loud if you can and sit back and let the music wash over you and see if you can feel 17 again.

5 out of 5 stars Frampton Comes Alive.......2007-04-04

This is the only copulation by Peter Frampton that you want to own.
No other releases by Frampton measure up to this one. He made one great copulation of recordings ever. This is it. After this he Petered' Out!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-02-05

It was great on LP when I bought it in the 70's and even better now on CD.

4 out of 5 stars great album -- more to frampton than you think.......2007-01-19

i always thought of frampton as a heart-throb with one big album in the 70s.

then i listened to this and -- WOW! Frampton is a superb guitar player with a unique sound (this album made it famous); an impeccable songwriter as well as a charismatic and, ok, good looking lead singer.

when you go past this album, you realize that frampton has a solid track record of pop songwriting & impeccable musicianship.

You might think it's easy for a songwriter with a high degree of prowess and a distinctive guitar sound to make an all-instrumental CD. But on Fingerprints, Peter Frampton--who was a British teen sensation with the Herd, a hard rock hero with Humble Pie, and an international phenomenon with Frampton Comes Alive--proves it's more difficult than it looks. This is a roots album for Frampton, as he pays homage to many of his heroes and gets a few of them to play on the disc. The classic Rolling Stones rhythm section of Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts lay down the blues-rock groove of "Cornerstones," while guitarist Hank Marvin and drummer Brian Bennett from the Shadows, England's version of the Ventures, get the reverb sustain going for a twin-guitar slow-blues track called "My Cup of Tea." Frampton also brings in some relative youngsters with jazz saxophonist Courtney Pine, who plays some R&B honks on "Boot It Up," and Pearl Jam's Mike McCready and Matt Cameron. They drop in for an overly faithful cover of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun," on which Frampton plays the vocal line with a fuzzed wah-wah guitar before singing the chorus through his TalkBox. Frampton has always been a sensitive guitarist, and you can hear that on tracks like "Float," where he orchestrates a delicate call-and-response with producer/guitarist Gordon Kennedy. But a lot of the album consists of riff-heavy grooves like "Blooze" that sound like polished jam sessions. It's probably not fair to draw comparisons with other axe-burners from the '60s, but Fingerprints is formulaic next to the electronica-infused wail of, say, Jeff Beck, on albums like Jeff. Where Frampton could have made a statement as a solo guitarist, he settled for genre exercises. It's a shame, because he sure can twang those strings. --John Diliberto

Album Description

LEGENDARY ARTIST'S FIRST INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM FEATURES MEMBERS OF PEARL JAM, THE ROLLING STONES, AND THE SHADOWS, AS WELL AS WARREN HAYNES AND OTHERS. In a career full of accolades, Frampton is particularly proud of Fingerprints: "This has been the CD I've been waiting to make all my life. Every track has been a wonderful challenge, pushing me to raise my own bar again and again." With a stellar cast of players, Frampton traverses a diversity of material on Fingerprints, from American soul to Latin balladry and all-out rock tunes. To help bring his childhood musical dream to life, Frampton invited Rolling Stones Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman to play on "Cornerstones"; original Shadows members Hank Marvin and Brian Bennett to perform with him on "My Cup of Tea"; and Pearl Jam's Mike McCready and Matt Cameron join him for a cover of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" and the original "Blowin' Smoke." Fingerprints also reveals Frampton's penchant for American roots music, especially on "Blooze," featuring Warren Haynes on slide guitar, and "Double Nickels" featuring Nashville virtuoso Paul Franklin on pedal steel. Frampton trades licks with British saxophone legend Courtney Pine on the blues rocker "Boot It Up." He and guitarist/co-producer Gordon Kennedy play harmonizing electric guitars on "Float," another album highlight. Another guitar virtuoso, John Jorgenson, joins Frampton on the Django Reinhardt-style "Souvenirs De Nos Phres." Fingerprints follows Frampton's critically acclaimed 2003 release, Now, which prompted The Washington Post to proclaim, "Frampton comes alive again." In another review, the BBC described Frampton's playing as "faultless throughout." The Associated Press said, "When it comes to fiery, guitar-drenched rock, Frampton delivers." The consistency of Frampton's playing was also affirmed when he earned a "Best Rock Instrumental Performance" Grammy nomination for Live in Detroit (2000). In 2001, Universal released the 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of the 1976 landmark Frampton Comes Alive, to much acclaim. The album remains one of the most successful live albums of all time and continues to influence generations of young artists.

4 out of 5 stars Get your fingers on "Fingerprints".......2007-06-27

Outstanding collection of instrumental songs. No wonder it won the Grammy. Each time I listen, I find something new. It's a real treat. Frampton amazes on guitar throughout.

5 out of 5 stars Frampton's "Guitar" in his maturity.......2007-06-25

This is a great instrumental album to just let play on............ his playing over the years is so refined and is absolutely fantastic!!!!!

He is better than ever.........!!!

4 out of 5 stars Could be his defining work .......2007-06-09

Peter Frampton shines on "Fingerprints," displaying his skills as both a guitarist and songwriter (two tracks are covers) throughout the varied range of material here. Numerous guests offer cameos, but his cast of regulars deserve high marks for their work as well.

Of the songs, 13 out of 14 hit the mark: an oddly too faithful to original version of Black Hole Sun is generally skipped when I play the CD.

Though many may tend to shrug off Mr. Frampton, they would be wrong to do so. He's always been a fine guitar player but his playing here shows that he has disposed of the albatross around his neck ("Frampton Comes Alive"). The energy and sheer joy that exude from the songs here should render "Fingerprints" as his defining work.

5 out of 5 stars This album is simply geat!!.......2007-05-20

No one makes guitar albums like this anymore!! Just fabulous!!

5 out of 5 stars Great guitar cd from a great guitarist.......2007-05-08

Simply put, this cd has been in my car, in my ipod, and mp3'd onto my work computer for the last 6 months. I love it. As a guitarist, you have got to enjoy pure guitar, great songs, with great sound. This is better than 99% of the new cds this year.

4 out of 5 stars Love this CD.......2007-07-05

Had this when it came out on LP--didn't even know it was ON cd til just now, and I ordered it. Take it for what it is, a timepiece from the period. The Bee Gees in the mid to late 70's were as dominant as the Beatles were in the 60's. PS- CHICAGO was offered the "Got To Get You" song and passed.

5 out of 5 stars to those disco freaks that love cheesy films!.......2007-04-19

Yes, I'm a HUGE fan of Peter Frampton and the Brothers Gibb and I'm an even BIGGER fan of cheesy films. I've been hunting down this soundtrack on CD since wearing out the VHS I checked out from the library. After having the DVD fall on my foot at my local Walgreen's (and watching it 7 times over 3 days), I'm now starting my search again for the awesome soundtrack. I'm a bit miffed that the tracks are out of order, but it's no big deal. If you love Frampton's guitar work, the BeeGee's vocals, and a cheesy film from '78 to boot, then by all means, get it. For those haters that don't like disco-fied Beatles covers, well, all I can say to them is pfft (oh, and not buy it if they're going to just fuss and cuss about how it's not 'right').

4 out of 5 stars Why would you buy it then?.......2007-03-20

Looking at the previous review I wonder...Did you see the movie? if you did then you heard all the tracks before buying the cd. Yes the movie was corny and campy...and I'm glad it didn't turn out to be like Xanadu (largly due to the fact that no one had to act, they just sang the parts) but it still leads me to wonder why would you buy the soundtrack to a movie you felt like was a flop? I enjoyed the music therefore I will most likely buy this cd. I enjoyed the movie as well (sucker for the Bee Gees)...

4 out of 5 stars Good Music.......2007-03-17

This sound track from the movie is a very good remake of the Beatles tunes. I enjoyed the movie back years ago and enjoy the music again now...

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Purchase.......2007-01-10

This item was exactly as advertised. It arrived in perfect condition and in a timely manner. I would not hesitate to do business with this seller again in the future.

5 out of 5 stars THIS IS VINTAGE PETER FRAMPTON LIVE AT HIS ABSOLUTE BEST........2007-03-24

I will be writing a review on the legendary historic live Two-CD set in the new Deluxe Edition commemorating the 25th Anniversary album entitled "FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE" by one of Rock's greatest premier guitarists and one of England's most legendary artists of all-time. I give you the one and only, MR. PETER FRAMPTON. "FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE" was originally released in 1976 on Vinyl/LP and Cassette on the A&M Records Label. I purchased the very first release of this album on a Two-CD set in the late 80's. This new 25th Anniversary Two-CD set Deluxe Edition was re-released in 2001 on the A&M Records Label which is a Universal Music Company. This new re-release is Digitally Remastered using the HDCD recording process. (High Definition Compatible Digital) As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary live album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.

PETER FRAMPTON has had a long and glorious career in Rock n' Roll history. His career would begin as a guitarist with the successful band HUMBLE PIE in 1969. After two years, FRAMPTON would leave HUMBLE PIE in 1971 following the release of the live "PERFORMANCE--ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE" album. However, it would be FRAMPTON'S solo career that would skyrocket and strike gold. FRAMPTON would release four successful solo albums from 1972 to 1975 before releasing his greatest historic live landmark achievement in 1976. When FRAMPTON recruited bandmembers Bob Mayo on rhythm guitar, Stanley Sheldon on bass guitar and John Siomos on drums, his new band line-up was now formed and complete resulting in a new sound and rare bond between the four. When "FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE" was released in 1976, FRAMPTON recorded the ultimate live album which not only capture's FRAMPTON and his band perfecting their own special blend of sound and music at their absoulute peak, but he also captures the true experience, spirit and excitement of what being at a live concert is really like. On this special 25th Anniversary Two-CD set Deluxe Edition only, there are four previously unreleased song tracks included which were not included on the original 1976 release. In my opinion, "FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE" is one of the greatest live albums of all-time. This legendary live album is definitely a true testament of the musical creativity of a great guitar genius and a fine fitting tribute to a great artist who would undoubtedly set the tone as to how live concerts would be recorded after 1976.

And now it is time to let the music speak for itself and do all of the talking. DISC ONE begins with the introduction and the climatic Rocker "Somethin's Happening," the energetic funkish Rocker "Doobie Wah," the beautifully slow soothing "Lines On My Face," the forever legendary FRAMPTON trademark Rocker "Show Me The Way," the breathless Rocker "It's A Plain Shame," the beautifully slow mild acoustic "Wind Of Change," the previously unreleased slow and mind acoustic number "Just The Time Of Year," the uplifting mellow acoustic "Penny For Your Thoughts," another fine energetic acoustic performance "All I Want To be (Is By Your Side)," the slow and most beautifully well crafted song "Baby, I Love Your Way" and the seven minute blistering Rocker "I Wanna Go To The Sun." END OF DISC ONE.

DISC TWO begins with the previously unreleased killer Rocker "Nowhere's Too Far For My baby," the slow groundbreaking Rocker "(I'll Give You) Money," the forever thirteen minute FRAMPTON trademark slow Rocker which contains one of the greatest guitar solo's in all of Rock n' Roll history, "Do You Feel Like We Do," the amazing breathtaking Rocker "Shine On," the previously unreleased incredible Rocker "White Sugar," FRAMPTON'S eight minute tribute and rendition of THE ROLLING STONES classic Rocker "Jumping Jack Flash" and the previously unreleased song that sounds like it was recorded in the studio, the well balanced Rocker "Day's Dawning." May I also add that FRAMPTON'S blistering and merciless guitar licks and riffs that were flowing through his guitar were burning sizzlin' red hot and on fire during these amazing performances. FRAMPTON NEVER sounded better. This is PETER FRAMPTON at his absolute best.

Overall, this is one hell of a legendary historic live album worth seeking further into and checking out especially if you are a newcomer or a new beginner to the sound and music of MR. PETER FRAMPTON. I know for fact that all of the FRAMPTON diehard fans and devout music collector's own a copy of this legendary historic live album.

I would like to highly recommend purchasing this legendary historic live album to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal music collection. This legendary live album has already proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. This is one historic live album that no devout music collector would want to be without.

In closing, PETER FRAMPTON has continued to entertain audiences the world over to sellout concerts up to this very day. Following the release and success of "FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE," FRAMPTON would also star with THE BEE GEES in a movie about THE BEATLES called "SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND" released in 1978. FRAMPTON would also release new albums to highly critical acclaim in the 80's and 90's. However, in 1995, FRAMPTON would release the sequel to the original 1976 "FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE" album with a new live album entitled "FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE II." PETER FRAMPTON has contributed and accomplished so much in Rock n' Roll that he feels that he still needs to give more. In my opinion, I truly believe that we have not seen or heard the last of PETER FRAMPTON yet, HIS BEST IS STILL YET TO COME. So here's to you Peter, John, Stanley and Bob. Thanks for the great memories. Keep Persevering. Keep The Faith. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," need I say more? Thanks for reading my review and I hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. PETER FRAMPTON RULES. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.

5 out of 5 stars and boy does he!!!.......2007-01-27

The guitar playing alone would make this album worth having. The pure rock and roll would make this worth having. Combined, this is an album you must have.

It may not the greatest live album ever (I think it is Warren Zevon's "Stand in the Fire"), but it's pretty damned close.

Not only "...an honorary member of San Francisco Society..." but all society, Mr. Peter Frampton...in all his glory.

Enjoy

5 out of 5 stars Frampton's finest moment 30 years on.......2006-08-13

Peter Frampton's Frampton Comes Alive was released in January of 1976.
This album still rocks and does not only feature Frampton's great guitar solos and vocals and Stanley Sheldon's great bass playing but also showed us what great musicians the late John Siomos and Bob Mayo were. John was what Peter called the John Bonham of his band and John's death in January of 2004 was sad and then a month after John's passing keyboardist/occasional guitarist/backing vocalist Bob Mayo died of a heart attack in Switzerland while touring with Peter. This album is a living testament to Peter's band whom played with him from 1975 to 1978.
This live album was completely live save part of the vocal of Something's Happening(the killer opener), the rhythm electric guitar on the classic Top 10 hit Show Me the Way and the piano on I Wanna Go to the Sun(a classic) but the rest is all live(solos, drums, bass and backing vocals).
This classic album features the Frampton standards Show Me The Way(which hit #6 on the singles charts), the Top 20 hit Baby I love Your Way and the Top 20 epic Do You Feel Like We Do in all of its 14 minute plus glory with its famous talk-box section and he and Joe Walsh would have a great talk-box duel.
The other tracks Doobie Wah, It's a Plain Shame, All I Wanna Be (Is By Your Side), Wind of Change, I Wanna Go To The Sun, Penny For Your Thoughts, I'll Give You Money, Shine On, his killer cover of Jumping Jack Flash and Lines On My Face are all superb classics!
This classic live album showed Peter Frampton and his band in all their glory. Besides being a excellent songwriter and singer, Frampton ranks as one of the greatest guitarists in all of rock and roll history.
This live album for the longest time was the biggest selling live album ever and was #1 for a total of 17 unconsecutive weeks making it the best selling album of 1976 hands down.
It's unfortunate that critics panned Frampton for his good looks rather than his musical talent showing critics are more about pazazz and glitter than music integrity.
In January of 2001 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of this classic album, A&M re-released the album in an expanded deluxe version with an expanded booklet and four bonus tracks bringing to album's running time to nearly two hours.
The additional material on the expanded edition includes three additional live pieces(including a killer Nowhere's Too Far For My Baby) as well as an radio broadcast version of Day's Dawning which originally appeared on 1975's Frampton.
This remixed/remastered version was superbly remastered by Bob Ludwig and Peter makes a classic live album sound even more classic today.
Highly recommended!

3 out of 5 stars I just don't get it!.......2006-01-12

While this is a fairly good record, I just don't get why it receives all of the praise it gets. "The Allman Brothers Live At The Fillmore East", "One More From the Road" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and "The Who Live at Leeds" are three of the live records that are better. Even the live Humble Pie record that Frampton was on leaves this in the dust. I've had this recording in some form (LP, CD) since it was released and it seldom finds it's way to my play list. As I said earlier this is a fairly good record but the best live record ever, PLEASE!

4 out of 5 stars Show Me the Way, One More Time.......2005-12-14

There's nothing new to say about an album this familiar, popular, and previously-analyzed. This was a landmark release of the 70's; its hits remain staples of the classic rock format, and probably always will. So let's skip right to what makes the Deluxe Edition worth buying.

First, the sound: These recordings have been nicely remastered. There is detail audible now that you would never have caught on the original release or on any of the various Greatest Hits collections. The new, expanded packaging also adds to the value. It includes the original liner notes by Cameron Crowe, along with a new booklet with a reflective essay, full lyrics, and archival photos. The four previously unreleased tracks are "Just the Time of Year," "Nowhere's Too Far For My Baby," "White Sugar," and "Day's Dawning." The first three are excellent live recordings from the same tour and flow smoothly into the existing mix, though I would've put "Nowhere's Too Far" after "(I'll Give You) Money," since the latter makes such a great kick-off for the second disc. "Day's Dawning" is an alternate studio version of a track that originally led off 1975's "Frampton." It's pleasant enough, but is a somewhat incongruous and unexciting non-live track to cap off a legendary live album.

All in all, an iconic record of the `70's has been handsomely updated. Not cheap, but worth it.

5 out of 5 stars Peter Frampton's Best Songs.......2003-09-14

GREATEST HITS does an excellent job of summing up Peter Frampton's career in the 70s. It is more concise and manageable than the double-disc SHINE ON set, and more comprehensive than THE VERY BEST OF PETER FRAMPTON. To start your Peter Frampton collection, get this one, FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE, and THE VERY BEST OF PETER FRAMPTON- all at once.

5 out of 5 stars A soundtrack to the seventies........2001-11-03

Peter Frampton is just one of many talented musicians of the seventies who's popularity decreased during the big 80's thanks to MTV who saturated the record buying public with Devo like computerized techno-schlock! The art of true musicianship was temporarily lost during that era. This greatest hits collection profiles a fantastic guitarist singer songwriter who reached the peak of rock n roll stardom with "Frampton Comes Alive". Listen to his guitar work on his cover of Stevie Wonder's "Signed Sealed Delivered" which brings one back to the days when one played air guitar to their favorite tunes. My daughter may listen to the "Backstreet Boys", but she also listens to "Peter Frampton". Good music lives on in any era. Buy this cd if you appreciate a fantastic performer.

5 out of 5 stars Don't miss out.......2005-11-19

I am probably the typical Peter Frampton fan--played the vinyl version of "Frampton Comes Alive" over and over, and then forgot about him. Then, after seeing him recently featured on A&E's "Biography," I remembered how gorgeous his guitar playing is and how hooky his songs are. So I took chance and ordered "Now." All I have to say is, wow! This is the best possible type of CD--maybe it doesn't bowl you over on the first listening (I don't think the little 30-second excerpts you can listen to for free really do the songs justice.) But it'll grow on you, believe me. It's now in my daily rotation.

There's a nice mix here of hard-rock guitar-playing and softer ballads. Go ahead, take a chance. He sounds as good as ever.

4 out of 5 stars A stripped down sound and a worthy Frampton comeback album.......2004-10-02

It has been nearly 10 years since Peter Frampton's last studio album, and it is unfortunate that we have had to wait so long for it to materialise. Though this `comeback' album is a good effort of the standard we are accustomed to from Peter, it is hardly the `magnum opus' that one might have expected after a decade's virtual silence. The sound of the album is quite basic and stripped-down, being essentially loud electric guitars (or ringing acoustic guitars), bass and drums, with subtle keyboard textures, the band being the same as that featured on Frampton's 1999 `Live in Detroit' concert album - Bob Mayo from the 1976 `Comes alive' album, John Regan (another longstanding Frampton associate), and Chad Cromwell the regular drummer with Mark Knopfler. There is little of the synthesizer overdubbing previously used on albums such as `I'm in you' and Frampton's 1994 studio album; the sound is very much that of the live band, but performing in the studio.

The songs are typical Frampton - mostly not particularly memorable at first hearing, but pleasant enough to grow on you when heard several times. Stylistically the album covers Peter's usual territory of acoustic guitar ballads and heavier R&B influenced rock, and listeners hoping for much innovation or experimentation would be disappointed - this is standard Frampton material, and though it is done well one can't help wondering why it took so long for the record to be completed. For me the most satisfying moments are when Peter departs a little from his usual formula, and performs a powerful version of George Harrison's `While my guitar gently weeps', followed by `Greens', a long instrumental piece reminiscent of some of Jeff Beck's `jazz-rock' work in the mid-70s. On these two tracks the extended guitar solos are somewhat more eloquent than in the rest of the album, and are a reminder of Frampton's past track record as a very tasteful and melodic electric guitar soloist.

For anyone not already familiar with Frampton's work, this would probably not be the best place to start, although for the committed fan it will be an essential purchase. I feel that with its generally simple musical arrangements it is a good complement to the 1994 `Peter Frampton' album (his previous studio album), which is more complex in its arrangements and is possibly a more carefully crafted album. Consequently I recommend that the listener should not buy one without the other, and along with the Detroit live album these studio recordings would give a good representation of where Peter Frampton really is at `Now'.

It should be noted that the German edition of `Now' contains three extra tracks compared with the original American edition, and in Britain it is also cheaper. This extended edition on the Framptone / SPV label, with 14 songs and a total length of just over an hour, is a particularly good bargain, and much better than the 11-track US edition. (All credits and vocals are of course in English.) The SPV version of the Detroit live album is also much longer than the US version.

3 out of 5 stars frampton is still alive...barely.......2004-02-24

i bought this cd because i heard his rendition of "while my guitar gently weeps" on the radio. his version of the song is a powerful one. typical of frampton guitar play. melodic that becomes more powerful towards the end of the song. peter does the song justice as i could feel the pain through his guitar play. as for the rest of the songs they are ok, something for noise while you do your homework or pay bills, but nothing that really grabbed me.

5 out of 5 stars Great!.......2003-11-14

I took a listen to this thing at Border's today, thinking, "what the hell." I thought he would sound like a dinosaur, but I was astonished to find myself tapping my foot to the first song. So, I listened some more, liked it and bought it. Now, I'm playing it constantly.
Nice job Peter! I'd never bought one of his albums, but I'm glad I got this one.

5 out of 5 stars amazing amazing guitar.......2003-10-08

I just got Frampton's NOW and LOVE it. The Greens guitar solo is the best and his guitar version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps is totally amazing. Love love the guitar, want more of it.

5 out of 5 stars San Francicso's Adopted Son.......2007-04-25

This CD was first released 20 years after the first 'Alive' recording of 1976. It was a single disk in America (Where it was almost ignored by the Masses). But an Asian/Austrailian version was the Two Disk Set that is now Released as this the "Deluxe Version".

This is a fine Bookend to the Original "Frampton Comes Alive". "Alive 2" features the Same Spirit of One of the Seventies Biggest Talents and Continues the Story where the Original Release ends with more Fine Songs and the Great playing of Peter and his Band: John Regan-Bass Guitar & Vocals... JR Robinson-Drums... and the Late Great Bob Mayo-Keyboards, Guitars & Vocals. There are some Great Songs: "Day in the Sun". "For Now", "You", "Can't Take That Away" and "Off The Hook". Peter's Big Hit: "I'm In You" is here as well and as with all of Frampton's Tunes I prefer this Live Version over the Studio Edition as the Whole Reason for the "Alive' tag is how these Songs become Bigger & Better on Stage. Peter's Playing and Performance has Gotten Better after Thousands of Nights on Stages such as these, and this is the Proof.

The Second Disk features the Most Popular Songs from the 1976 record: "Show Me the Way", "Baby, I Love Your Way", "Lines on my Face" & "Do You Feel Like We Do".

Peter is still out there as I Write this in 2007, still Releasing Great Music and still making the Girl's scream at Sold Out Show's around the World... SHINE ON

4 out of 5 stars good music.......2007-06-08

I went into this album expecting a pleasant listen, because the few songs I know from Peter Frampton have shown me that he is a pretty good songwriter who just writes nice music. That's exactly what this album is- a nice listen. I didn't hear any wild guitar playing (not that I went in expecting to) but I did hear a listenable collection of nice tunes.

The way Peter Frampton seems to *almost* write ballads, but insists on throwing in *just* the right amount of guitar playing as a way to seemingly trick the listener into thinking he's writing a ballad when in fact it's actually somewhere in between a ballad and a rocker, is probably his trademark sound. That's the thing I always remember about him, anyway.

Another thing- the back of the album says this album was recorded in a castle, and Frampton comments on how freaky that is, and how the music reflects that. Not really. Now, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is an album recorded in a castle that really SOUNDS like it was.

Anyway, this album is just what I expected- a nice listen with nice songs coming from a nice guy. It's nice to hear versions of "Show Me The Way" and "Baby I Love Your Way" that AREN'T from Frampton Comes Alive. In the case of "Show Me The Way", there's a certain empty vibe about it that the live version seemed to fill, and surpass. "Penny For Your Thoughts - (I'll Give You) Money" is a really good, energetic way to end the album, too. The former being a good instrumental, and the final song being a pretty decent rocker. Good music.

Captured on tape inside the late Ronnie Lane's "Reels On Wheels"!!! This great album is chock full of awesome tracks including the original versions of "Show Me The Way" and Nassau/Baby, I Love Your Way",as well Day's Dawning,One More Time,(I'll Give You)Money, and five more!!! Great remastered sound too!!! Two thumbs up!!! Five stars!!! A+

4 out of 5 stars Before the storm.......2006-12-22

Yeah, I'll add a vote here too, I was just writing about Frampton era Humble Pie, and noted that the first four Frampton albums were fine music. This one was a disappointment to me at first. I liked the light touch on the first three albums, especially the garage sound of "Something's Happening", and the rather bombastic title and more serious tone here put me off. But after a couple listenings it was apparent that this was his best effort, and a really fine album. It should have been the start of an interesting and musically rewarding career, the maturity of his craft.

And then . . . pink hair and screaming teenies, the live album and appearances in drek like the Sergeant Peppers movie, any crass superstar junk you could imagine. Classic rock and roll ruin, an instant joke among all males. Can you imagine this guy used to crunch and his guitar could scream? Do you feel? Yeah, sick to my stomach. Wow, were the seventies lame until punk saved the day, and Frampton's image unfortunately went right along with white suits and the word "boogie". Unbelievable.

Anyway, if you can't imagine someone with fuzzy pink hair is worth a listen, I can sympathize, but check this out and you'll be rewarded.

5 out of 5 stars Thank you Josie.......2006-03-22

My best friend Josie gave me this as a surprise gift and I haven't stopped playing it. Frampton is an excellent guitarist as this cd illustrates. This is a must have for any Frampton fan.

Product Description

Jerry Lee Lewis first trip to the United Kingdom ended in less than spectacular fashion, as the tabloids got hold of the age (and ancestry) of his young bride. In 1973, though, he returned triumphantly. His all-star backing band includes Eric Clapton, Rory Gallagher, Peter Frampton, Albert Lee, Alvin Lee, The Whos Kenney Jones, Procol Harums Matthew Fisher, and Gary Wright, among others. Virtually all of the previously releases of these sessions were truncated in some fashion, usually to satisfy the demands of the medium (only eighty minutes on a CD, so either tracks had to go, or the number of discs had to increase). As a consequence, six songsSatisfaction, Dungaree Doll, I Cant Give You Anything But Love, Be Bop A Lula, Goldmine In The Sky, and Singing The Blues make their CD debut on the Select release. And how does Jerry Lee sound in the company of these talented artists backing him up? Better than he had since the Fifties. Not only did he take on such early rock hits as Frankie Fords Sea Cruise, Johnny Rivers Memphis and Chuck Berrys Johnny B. Goode, but he also turned in creditable versions of Gordon Lightfoots Early Morning Rain and Creedences Bad Moon Rising. Hes totally on his game throughout, surprisingly laid back as he pumps the piano with virtuosic intensity, letting his fingers do the talking. The man from Ferriday, Louisiana, is rocking big time on this finally-restored-to-its-original-glory album.

This may very well be both one of the most obscure, yet "no-holds barred" and wholly unleashed R&R albums of all time, Read the critics' and the few consumer reviews. Recorded "live" in a London studio in '72 (?), just check out the producers, engineers, and guest musicians. You will be wholly incapable of cranking the auto audio system and driving less than 80 m.p.h Just can't be done...

5 out of 5 stars A great historical recording.......2007-05-28

Most reviews of JLL records are written by Jerry Lee Lewis enthusiasts and I am one of them. My review might therefore be biased. What I find fascinating about Jerry Lee is that he has not lost any of the original magic during the past 50 years. Listening to records of other artists from that time period, I find the music often dated if not boring or kitsch. Strangely, this is not the case with the recordings of JLL. There is some magic quality to his work which demands respect even today. I have listened recently to many of his records and also viewed some of the movies avaiable on youtube. I recommend that you take a look at his performance of "Mona Lisa" on youtube. That movie shows JLL's great piano playing ability. Look at his left hand articulating clearly rhythm and harmonies. Then watch his energetic outbursts without compromising precision and clarity. That's a unique quality of JLL! He plays the piano almost like a drum. Pay attention to the overall clarity of sound. Jerry Lee's piano is so strong and dominating that he needs little backup - just a drum is enough. The recording under review, unfortunately, does not display these qualities as clearly as possible. The overall sound is a little bit too "thick" and noisy at times. This is the result of a too heavy electric guitar sound - the great innovation of the 70's in jazz and rock music. The sheer power of electricity employed masks some of the finer qualities of JLL's playing. In my ears this sounds today more dated than the original Jerry Lee Lewis boogie woogie sound from the 1950's which in comparison is more delicate. However, this does not diminuish the overall quality and historic value of the recording which is excellent. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Jerry Lee's terrifying answer to the "1968 Elvis Comeback Special".......2007-05-08

First, it's great that Amazon's offering this. It's a Hip-O Select release (Universal's answer to Rhino Records, offering Web-only collectors reissues). Second, what a lineup: Alvin Lee, Albert Lee, Gary Wright, Kenny Jones, Rory Gallagher, Klaus Voorman, Matthew Fisher, Peter Frampton and more, but Jerry Lee is the star here and he's cousin Jimmy Lee Swaggart's worst nightmare: howling, snarling, filled with rock 'n' roll fire. Highlights are Drinking Wine Spo-Dee O'Dee, No Headstone On My Grave, Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On (a truly insane, over-the-top version), and the Rock Medley (4 Little Richard hits capped by a reprise of "Whole Lotta Shakin"). No one expected this in 1972 (the original year of its release). Jerry Lee was making a name in the world of Country music. Just as Elvis reclaimed his legacy after years of bad movies by suiting up in black leather and beaming himself into America's living rooms, Jerry Lee headed "across the pond" and took back what was rightfully his...with a vengeance. The career-best version of "Whole Lotta Shakin"...with Rory Gallagher on over-amped slide guitar and Peter Frampton on rhythm...explodes as Jerry pleads "Let's go one time now...SHAKE me baby shake me...MOVE me Mama, move me....WHOOOOO, shake it baby shake it, HEE-YOW, shake it baby shake it...Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on...SHAKE it baby shake it...SHAKE it baby shake it...SHAKE it baby shake it...SHAKE it baby shake it...WHOOO, Move it baby, move it...I ain't fakin', whole lotta shakin' goin' on...ONE MORE TIME NOW...I SAID, shake it baby shake it..." Seriously, folks, what are you waiting for?

5 out of 5 stars No Comparison!.......2005-10-31

This is a fantastic album. It is infinitely better than any of his many others. Score it if you can!

The "Frampton Comes Alive" tour was the first concert I ever attended. It still is one of the best.

This CD is a good collection of Frampton's work. It's a taste of the best of his 70's career and much of the music still holds up very well today.

Peter Frampton's still making music today and his voice sounds great. One of his standout performances is on "Mad Dogs and Okies" a various CD of musicians who have worked with Jamie Oldaker, an Oklahoma sideman.

5 out of 5 stars A gem of an album !!!.......2007-05-17

Ordinarily the 20th Century Masters Series disappoints me because the CDs run very short--only about 36 to 40 minutes on average. Thank goodness they didn't do that with Peter Frampton! Here on this CD you get roughly an hour of some of his best performances including live concert tracks, too.

The CD starts with the awesome "Show Me The Way" performed live; and the song rocks hard--this number is a classic! The use of the guitars and percussion add strength to the musical arrangement; and Peter's vocals are excellent. His voice is rich, warm and full of masculine strength. The audience sure loves it, too!

The romantic and thoughtful "I'm In You" follows; this love ballad celebrates the joys of true love. Peter and his band perform this with great sensitivity. Awesome!

Other gems on this CD include "Nassau/Baby, I Love Your Way;" and Peter and his band perform a really rockin' version of "Signed, Sealed Delivered (I'm Yours)."

The CD ends with a whopping 14 minute live track of "Do You Feel Like We Do." Peter uses the talkbox for a great effect and the audience especially likes the way the band jams and takes their time to deliver this one just right!

The liner notes include a great essay about Frampton's career by Scott Schinder; and you get all the song credits, too. Moreover, the art work is excellent.

Peter Frampton fans will love this CD; and people who want to get to know the artistry of Peter Frampton would do very well to start with this CD. People who really get into that classic rock sound from the 1970s will love this CD, too!

Enjoy!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Frampton Comes Alive Again!.......2004-02-10

Don't get me wrong this is not the best collection of Frampton you can get! I know alot of people don't care for the millennium collection series but i myself think they sum up the persons most popular songs! I myself love this cd & would recomend it to anybody who likes Perter Frampton!
