5 out of 5 stars Foghat - Another Great Live Album.......2007-03-21

"Road Cases" is a live album from the re-united original members of Foghat recorded in Portland Oregon in 1996. There are also two additional new studio tracks as well. Most fans of the band consider "Foghat Live" from the late 70's as the band's high water mark, so there was a lot to live up to with this live release. So how does the band sound after two decades? Actually the album holds up really well. The band is tight as ever, Dave's voice sounds very good for the most part, and Rod Price has some really powerful slide guitar solos. Overall it is not quite as consistently good as "Foghat Live", but it is a fitting testament to a band that always was at their best in a live environment. The "big 3 hits" are here of course along with other favorites and album cuts like an 8 minute plus "Drivin Wheel", "Soakin The Bone", "Sweet Home Chicago", "It Hurts Me Too", and a few others. There are also two new studio tracks both of which are on the mellow side, but are nice little tunes. Overall I would still say "Foghat Live" is the best live album from these guys, but this one is certainly well worth owning.

5 out of 5 stars Another Great Foghat Concert Recording.......2003-11-11

ROAD CASES is another great Foghat concert preserved for posterity. Most of the songs are great, but there is a bit of filler, and I could do without the two studio cuts. Overall, you should own this one, but only if you already have FOOL FOR THE CITY, LIVE, NIGHT SHIFT, ENERGIZED, ROCK AND ROLL OUTLAWS, and FOGHAT (ROCK AND ROLL).

5 out of 5 stars DYNAMITE!.......2002-02-15

It sure is good to see the old fellas rocking again, and nowhere is this more evident than with FOGHAT and "Road Cases." This is a great live recording, with Foghat smoking just like they usually always do.
This jam starts out with a rousing rendition of "I just want to make love to you", followed immediately by what I believe to be the best song on the set, "Driving Wheel." Their version of DW lasts up to almost eight minutes long and just flat out rocks! The fifth track "Sweet Home Chicago" is indicative of just why Foghat always stayed true to their blues roots. They were always appreciative of the blues, and SHC is pure in its content.
This concert was recorded live at the Roseland Theater in Portland Oregon, on the 25th and 26th of Oct. 1996. The crowd is very enthusiastic, and Foghat does not disappoint their audience.
Peverett and Price trade licks throughout this entire set, and the duo guitar attack will blow back your ears! Price does get a little carried away with the slide guitar on occasion, but this recording will show anybody what a true blues rock band is capable of.
The line up at the time of this recording consisted of "Lonesome" Dave Peverett-Lead vocals and guitar- Rod Price-Lead slide guitar and vocals-Tony Stevens-Bass and vocals-with the ever dependable Roger Earl on drums. A powerful line up, that packed a terrific punch. Foghat did not care if they played too loud, that was their trademark, and they stuck with it, critics be [fooled].
Tracks #9 "Fool for the City" (another one that flat out ROCKS!) and #10, the Foghat anthem "Slowride" are performed with magnetic enthusiasm on this CD. There are also two additional studio tracks provided with this album "Angel Of Mercy" and "Tear you Down" ( a somewhat softer side of Foghat, but still very good). What one gets here is unapologetic, fast driving hard rock, with a couple guys that can also sing.
Lonesome Dave is no longer with us. He succumbed to kidney cancer about eighteen months ago, after a long struggle with that disease. However,"Road Cases" is a wonderful testament to a band that made no apologies about what they believed in (blues) combined with a hard edge. If you do not get up and boogie with a little air guitar during "Driving Wheel" or "Fool for the City" you should be declared legally dead. I'll even sign your death certificate.

5 out of 5 stars ROAD FEVER.......2000-02-11

My first ever Foghat CD and it sounds really good. The band is great live and after 25 some years, they still sound fresh and lively as they did back in their heyday. I Just Want To Make Love To You, Slow Ride and Foll For The City are here, as expected, and sound great. Drivin' Wheel, Bad Bad Lovin', and Sweet Home Chicago are good blues boogie rockers. The CD ends on a studio note, new songs Angel Of Mercy and Tear You Down are excellent proving these boys still can come up with good songs. A definite keeper.

5 out of 5 stars ROCK & ROLL BLUES LIVES.......1998-12-15

From the Opening rifts of Waters tribute to the fairer Sex to the Rocker of the City Bound. THIS LIVE ALBUM RULES. Lonesome Dave sounds great and the slide guitar work is excellent. This album is fresh. If you wondered what happened to these guys just give a listen. Thanks guys "My Babe" thinks it's great.

5 out of 5 stars Two more songs then the original US release.......2001-05-01

An excellent addition to anybody's foghat collection! the first cd is 43 minutes and the second cd is 45 minutes, IJWTMLTY is a differant version then what was on the original Roadcases release, also all the in between song "speaking to the crowd" by Lonesome Dave is not on this version of Roadcases, my only complaint is that "Its too late" and "stone blue" are recorded at a little lower volume then the rest of the cd! but overall its an excellent cd
