Editorial Reviews
Album Description
2002 album for the influential guitarist finds him revitalized. Says Gary, 'It's a lot rawer & earthier than my recent blues & I'm experimenting with some new guitar sounds. I'm back with the strat & you'll hear the Hendrix influence in some of the riff-based songs that I haven't been known for before. I'm very into the Jimi thing at the moment. My band now is a three piece & it's very free because of it'. The 'power trio' includes Skunk Anansie bassist Cass Lewis & Primal Scream drummer Darrin Mooney. Ten tracks.

Disciple ROCKS!.......2007-07-16
Before this CD, I didn't particularly care for Disciple. But after seeing them in concert the week it came out, I decided to try it and fell in love with their music. This CD has a song for everyone. If you're more into the inspirational or slower stuff, I'd suggest "After the World" and "No End at All." For those of you who like the heavier stuff that Disciple is known for, I'd suggest "Scars Remain," "Game On," "My Hell," and "Fight for Love." It's a great CD, a great band, and a great message that they're putting out there. After listening to this, I went from not even knowing the names of the band members, to knowing every single lyric to every song on this CD.
Not what it should be.......2007-04-10
Disciple is a band that, unfortunately, seems unable to find its way to the top of any audience's favorites list. Too unpolished to reach the top of the Christian rock scene and too typical to gain success in more indie-oriented circles, Disciple is perpetually cursed to mediocrity.
Admittedly, this album is a step in the right direction, seeming an improved successor both to the recent, pop-oriented self-titled album and the older, rawer releases like By God and Back Again. The beats are fast and the guitar riffs faster in songs like "Dive", "Regime Change", and "Game On". Unfortunately, the songs never seem to go much farther than that, opting for paths beaten to dust ten years ago or more rather than newer sounds.
The lyrics have enough biblical allusions to satisfy the religious audience, and the riffs have the tired feel that make this exactly the type of release that "old-school" Christian rockers will love, complete with the sleep-inducing power ballad "No End at All". However, in a scene that is increasingly developing lyrical and musical depth, Scars Remain simply can't compete--it has nothing really new to offer.
My Metallica replacement.......2007-04-02
I've been a Metallica fan since 1989. I recently gave up listening to them because of their interference with my faith. Only 5 days after I discarded every Metallica CD I had, I received this Disciple CD in the mail. Like I said, I was a fan, die hard Metallica fan, since 1989. Scars Remain has replaced my Metallica thirst musically and replaced angry, hopeless lyrics with Jesus. Awesome!!!!!!!!!
WOW!!!!!!!!.......2007-03-28
When my dad showed me this CD I was blown away. I couldn't believe that i'v never heard of Disciple before. Ever since christmas they are all I have in my stereo and on my MP3 player. I can't get enough of Disciple and I can't wait for their next CD.
Awesome band, Awesome CD! .......2007-03-27
I am a Christian, and of course I listen to Christian music, and I LOVE all types of Christian music, Contemporary, Hip Hopish, Rock, etc... I read a review on this CD on Amazon, and that same day I went to town and I bought the CD and I am really glad I did! Disciple is an awesome Christian rock band! I am really liking this CD more each day as I listen to it. I am glad that Disciple is doing this for God. I hope that they continue to do what their doing in Music Ministry. My favorite songs would have to be "After the world", "My Hell", and "No end at all". All in all this is an awesome Christian CD, and I recommend that you all go buy it! ;-)

Straight-ahead yet emotive, testosterone-fueled rock, SOiL's impressive debut boasts 13 strong songs, all with staying power. The propulsive rhythms of the infectious, melodic, and intense title track are at once edgy and heavy, while "The One" is like a cooler Creed, with "Black 7" a brooding, more powerful and modern Danzig. Though Scars was produced by Johnny K, the seeming architect of the new "Chicago sound" that began with Disturbed (and SOiL are not unlike their Windy City counterparts, especially on "Understanding Me") that's not to say SOiL doesn't have its own identity. The Midwestern quintet grooves hard and consistently with a pleasing combination of modern metal stylings matched with old-school influences and a nice attention to detail. From the sexy groove of "Need to Feel" to the more evil "Wide Open," to the punky rawness of "The One," SOiL cover a lot of ground without losing the thread, marking the darkly provocative Scars as an auspicious, affecting, and coolly commercial beginning. --Katherine Turman

From start to end had me trapped!!!.......2006-05-12
I picked this cd up a few years back and when i head the band was releasing their new cd which you can read my review about under that cd i just had to pop this album back in to remined me why i loved these guys. From the second you pop this cd in to the very last dark track you will be bangin your head and screaming for more, this is truly one of the best cd's i own and will always love it although Ryan is now the lead man for drowning pool!!!
Their best........2006-04-14
This is one of the few albums that I can listen to from track 1 through the final track and enjoy every single song. The album had 'radio friendly rock' written all over it, but it never got much attention besides the one single "Halo." Unfortunately Ryan (lead vocals) left the band and has since joined Drowning Pool.
Scarsy.......2006-03-19
Good rythims, good vocals, fun lyrics....first saw this on a WoW pvp video and had to have it.(Video PAT-PVP2)
Probably the best ever..........2005-08-18
True Score:4.8 a couple songs toward the end could have been better
Replay / Value: 5.0 always something good to listen to no matter how many times you've already heard it.
I love many cd's but no matter how great a cd seems to be at first the routine of listening to the same songs repeatedly makes even the best cd's dreadful. I've had Soil's cd for 4 years now, seems like longer and could be, I bought it when it was first sold. Still enjoy their sound. It's probably safe to say after all this time SOIL is my ultimate favorite group in my ultimate favorite genre.
The best comparison I can make on Soil is to take what is good about Godsmack's industrial vocals and style of music(on Godsmacks good songs). The music is loud, energetic, thickly layered, strong, heavy and dark.. perhaps a little like Spineshank? Lyrics aren't generic so a wonderful job of writing their own words. The drums are particarly powerful, like metalica, and push my sub hard.
As pleasant of a recording and well mixed as you can get for hard metal recording.
Mindless, Blind, Water-Deprived, Locked-In-The-Basement Mosh.......2005-06-02
(The title of this article)Is what you get when you buy this album. The first two tracks are brilliant, no matter what, with heavy, harsh riffs taking mosh by the scruff of the neck and cheerfully kicking the life out of it, making sure it can't run away. They have mosh music, and it's all theirs.
From then on it gets weaker, the songs are enjoyable, but only if you're in the mood for a good old mosh, and have been kickstarted by the first two tracks. There are times when you have to wonder how much thought he's put into his lyrics (He rhymes 'emotion' with 'wotion'. Is 'wotion' a word? I haven't checked, and I'm not going to.)
The album is enjoyable at first, but if you are listening to it on your own it gets boring quite quickly (especially after the 3rd time you have played it.)It just seems to be the same stuff at different tempos.
But, overall, this is a good album while you are in the company of others, and it does for about forty minutes of moshing. So gather a group of like minded friends, lock the door, turn the lights out, drink more then a sensible amount, put this record on, and demonstrate.

This swaggering, tough-singing Kentucky duo consists of a pair of impassioned but unremarkable singers--Eddie Montgomery (brother of country star John Michael Montgomery) and his longtime musical associate Troy Gentry. They deliver a rowdy, whiskey-drenched, antiheroic brand of rocked-up honky-tonk that unabashedly conjures up memories of Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr., and other rough-and-rowdy country "outlaws" of yesteryear. Montgomery and Gentry wear these influences well on serviceable cuts like "Hillbilly Shoes" and "Didn't Your Mama Tell Ya," but do them a disservice on unremarkable ballads like "Trying to Survive" and "If a Broken Heart Could Kill," and on their derivative-sounding cover of Charlie Daniels's "All Night Long." The utter lack of original material on their debut CD is somewhat suspect, yet on killer cuts like the painfully confessional "Self Made Man" and the morally insightful "Daddy Won't Sell The Farm" they do show a few sparks of innovation amid all the ragged honky-tonk smoke and fire. --Bob Allen

Country Singer Charged With Killing A Tame Bear
(WCCO) Minneapolis Country singer Troy Lee Gentry was indicted Tuesday in federal court on a charge of illegally killing and tagging a tamed black bear.
Gentry, of Franklin, Tenn., and Lee Marvin Greenly, a 46-year-old wildlife photographer from Sandstone, Minn., appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Raymond Erickson in Duluth, Minn. Tuesday morning. Their case being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael A. Dees.
According to the indictment, Greenly sold Gentry a tame, trophy-caliber black bear named "Cubby" for approximately $4,650 in October of 2004. Greenly housed several animals for use in his photography business.
After the transaction, the indictment reports that Greenly and Gentry tagged the bear with a Minnesota hunting license. Gentry then allegedly killed the captive bear with a bow and arrow while the animal was still enclosed in a pen on Greenly's property.
The indictment further alleges that Greenly and Gentry registered the bear with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources as though it had been hunted in the wild before shipping the animal's hide to a taxidermist in Kentucky for mounting.
According to the Lacey Act, it is illegal to falsely tag a tame bear for the purpose of hunting.
The bear's death was videotaped and allegedly edited after the fact to make it appear that Cubby had been killed in a "fair chase" situation.
Greenly is also facing two further charges of violations against the Lacey Act, including guiding hunters to the Sandstone National Wildlife Refuge, where black bear hunting is illegal, and unlawfully setting up bear-baiting stations in the area.
Both Gentry and Greenly have been released on bond pending their next court appearance. If convicted on the charges, they could both face a maximum potential penalty of five years in federal prison and a $20,000 fine.
Been a MG fan for 2 years.......2006-03-22
I became a MG fan when I heard them (on TV) perform at the Fanfare in Nashivlle. I heard 'Hell Yeah' quite a while before that and I loved that; and If you ever stop loving me. I didn't know who MG where then- then I heard their performance at fanfare (On the TV) and had to become a fan. I got all their albums.
This is their debut CD, and it is really good. Their first single; "Hilbilly Shoes" is about not judgeing people- sends a powerful message and it can still be rocked out.
And "Lonley and Gone" is a great song and they can sing it with such emotion.. not to mention the vid for it!! Wow.
The whole album is good- and their version of "All Night Long" rocks
There are just so many things to say about each song.
"Daddy wont sell the farm" MAN! That song is great- the music singing melody and all. And it is about not being able to take a country boy out of thier setting, no matter what.
The whole album is great- and If i heard this album when it debuted in 1999 I would have said, "These guys will be around for a long time to come"
A great debut!.......2005-06-08
This is the cd that started everything for Eddie Montgomery and Troy (T-Roy) Gentry. This is what they offered, and they did a great job with it.
All of the songs on this album are great to listen to. It makes no difference where you are, home, work or on the road, you can listen to them anywhere. The songs are well written, and each song has a message, it has something you can relate to. "Trying to Survive" and "Lonely and Gone" are songs about trying to cope when relationships break up. Many who hate Country argue that's what all Country songs are about. No, they are not, but then again, EVERYONE knows someone going through this kind of heartache. "Trouble Is" sings of regret of letting a marriage slip away, while "Didn't Your Mama Tell Ya" reminds us there are still guys who do love their women and simply don't disrespect them, but rather love them completely. Other songs are a lot of fun, such as "I've Loved a lot More Then I've Hurt," where he's endured alot of bad things, but he still enjoys life, and "Daddy Won't Sell the Farm," about a farmer who won't sell out for ANYTHING, and neither will his son. Probably the most emotional song is the title track, "Tatoos and Scars," a song about a kid who thinks he's seen it all with his tatoos, but an older man shows his much harder-lived life with his scars.
This album was their finest moment. They told the world they were tough and proved it with their music. Their next one would be good, but unfortunately it was downhill after that. At one time, Montgomery Gentry made solid Country. Maybe one day the will do it again.

When hirsute El Paso, Texas, emo gods At the Drive-In abruptly called it quits and split into two factions--unofficially, the afros and non-afros--dismayed fans feared that it spelled the end for their pummeling, tight-wire guitar rock. Not so. While hairy frontman Cedric Bixler and guitarist Omar Rodriguez did, indeed, venture into weirdo space jazz under the name the Mars Volta, guitarist Jim Ward, bassist Paul Hinojos, and drummer Tony Hajjar stay on course as Sparta. Wiretap Scars echoes the reckless beauty of the trio's former band. The album features raw punk fury on "Cut Your Ribbon," emotional dissonance in "Cataract," and an absurdly exuberant melody ("Glasshouse Tarot") or two ("Mye") scattered about. And it rocks like a bastard. --Aidin Vaziri
Customer Reviews:
Forget At the Drive In.......2007-02-02
I've seen too many reviews marginalizing this album because it's not At The Drive In or Mars Volta - they're right, it's not, and that's why it's brilliant. Independent of the comparisons, taken solely for what it is (rather than what's it's not), Wiretap Scars earns each of its five stars. The level of its energy and the sincerity of its emotion have made this album one of my all-time favorites, which is what led me to write this review some 4+ years after I first purchased it. I disagree that this album is just a disjointed collection of songs; personally, I think it's one of the most cohesive albums I've heard in the last decade - the pace and attack of the songs changes over the course of the album but the emotional tone stays the same: desperate and somewhat nostalgic. I've never tired of this album and it has scarcely left my CD player over the last several years.
The Veritable Archetype of Alt-Rock.......2006-12-12
I had been a fan of At The Drive-In, and when that band fractured into Sparta and the more popular The Mars Volta, I investigated both new bands. The Mars Volta have certainly become more well known; and their style of bizarre, experimental art-rock/psychedelia/fusion/whatever is interesting, but I seriously think that this album by their counterparts Sparta is one of the great underappreciated alt-rock albums of all time.
Pop-inflected, atmoshpheric, creative, otherworldy, artistic, catchy, gritty, expressive....these are all way I could describe this amazing and addictive album. Both more coherent and more well-written than anything The Mars Volta have ever done; it really is a shame that this album didn't receive more attention from the music-buying public. For me, this band and Sunny Day Real Estate are the veritable apogee of the alt-rock/emo sound, in different ways, without some of the annoying pretense and smug hipness of some of the other bands in the genre. I still can't get this one out of my CD player. A modern obscure classic!
Solid Foundation for Sparta!!!.......2006-12-02
This album is instantly palatable, and the grandeur of this work is awesome. Every track is instantly catchy, and the lyrics and music are well put together. This album features 3 out of the 5 ex-At the Drive In members from El Paso Texas: Jim Ward (vocals), Paul Hinojos (guitar), and Tony Hajjar (drums), and you can definitely see where At the Drive In got some of its influences from. Jim does an excellent job at taking the reins at vocals, and in my opinion, the break-up of At the Drive In has provided us with two excellent bands (the Mars Volta and Sparta) that can more than adequately hold their own apart from their previous band, if not even better. This album has a somewhat euphoric quality to the guitar work, and leaves you in a state of wonder, and the overall raw integrity to which lead singer Jim Ward lends his vocals is amazing. Standout tracks are abundant, but if I had to pick my favorites, they would be: "Air", "Collapse", "Light Burns Clear", and especially "Glasshouse Tarot", which in my opinion, is the best sounding song on the album. For harder tracks reminiscent of ATDI, check out "Cut Your Ribbon" and "Assemble the Empire". EL PASO ROCKS!!!
SPARTA--force unstoppable. .......2006-11-26
One of my favorite albums, Wiretap Scars, gives the listener such a wide range of Sparta's capability as coming out and making it as their own. Many of the songs are catchy and have the stick-in-your-head ability. I can't stop playing it in my car! Perfect for all moods.
Great album........2006-05-06
This album start to finish is simply awesome and rocking. Some people don't seem to like Jim's voice compared to Cedric's but personally I've always preferred Jim's. If you like rock in the vein of Fugazi, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, and older Jimmy Eat World you should definitely check this out.

Amazon.com's Best of 2001
Mystic is the one folks have been waiting for. The Bay Area singer/rapper exudes the kind of bona fide b-girl bravado that, underneath their macho posturing, very few male MCs can match. Not a holier-than-thou granola dreamer, Mystic is a rhyme rebel who assesses harsh realities unflinchingly, with nerve and tenderness at the same time. She's a skilled MC, as evidenced by the intricate wordplay and cadences that she showcases on hardcore cautionary tales such as "The Gottas." She's also a great singer, with a smoky alto that captures lovesickness on "You Say, I Say." Cuts for Luck and Scars for Freedom is low-key and lush, with production by Left Coast luminaries such as the Angel and A-Plus. This album is b-womanhood at its best. --Lizz Mendez Berry

One of my favorite albums ever.......2007-05-31
Beautiful lyrics, sad, moving, sexy, edgy. Perfect, really.
Mystic - Cuts for Luck and Scars for Freedom.......2007-02-19
Mystic's debut album "Cuts for Luck and Scars for Freedom" (2001) is an impressive not to be slept on release. Mystic is a female Rapper/Singer hailing from Oakland, California. Mystic reminds me of other talented female MC's like Lauryn Hill & Jean Grae. Mystic keeps her audience listening throughout from the laidback intro to the closing bonus cut "Destiny Complete this is an MC who has deep and relevant music to deliver. Over some ominous sounding production Mystic drops thoughts on corruption and the ghetto environment many people live in. My favourite track on this release is "Neptune's Jewels, Mystic delivers a refreshing love ballad, with on point rhymes and soulful singing. On "The Gotta's" Mystic paint's a picture of a young street soldier and the life he lives, in pursuit of money, sex, love and respect. The following track is the upbeat "The Life", Mystic sings soulfully providing another memorable joint. Mystic flips the script on "Once A Week", being the women who's looking for a casual relationship no strings attached. Mystic slows things down with another love ballad in "Forever and A Day", while taking the perspective of a hustler/killer on "D Boy". "You Say, I Say" is another track about relationship's. Throughout this album Mystic delivers deep track's, "A Dream" is one of these, Mystic's lyrics/singing are outstanding on this sad cut about struggle and overcoming. Mystic collaborates with Planet Asia for "W", in a track about their home state California. Powerful is the best way to describe "Fallen Angel's", a track about death dedicated to those who have lost people to violence, domestic abuse, drugs and murder. Mystic talks to the women who find love in the wrong places on "Girlfriend Sistagirl". Mystic reflects on her life, getting raped, remembering her drug addict father who abandoned her on "Fatherless Child", nothing's simple in this track about love and pain. Mystic talk's to people who have suffered in life on "O.K. Alright", while dropping some introspective words's on "Spoken Words". Mystic provides conscious and quality music on "Cuts for Luck and Scars for Freedom" a album which I recommend checking out. I think women will especially enjoy/relate to this release.
A Masterpiece.......2005-10-20
In a Hiphop context there are few female MCs that can truly be considered 'nice' in comparison their male counterparts but by leaps and bounds Mystic can be easily placed in that select group. I remember when I first heard of Mystic in 2000 as the buzz albeit small, was building for her debut. So when I got my hands on a copy I knew it should be handled with care because her label was already having problems prior to her release and sure enough the label folded not too long after which also affected releases by Bahamadia and Phil Da Agony, so it felt great to have something I knew few had. I have listened to this CD more times than I can count yet I love it more every time and there are few complete CDs in any genre I can say that about. Artistically Mystic is on another level, and lyrically she can burn many rappers that are selling ridiculous units right now, and she's a really good singer/songwriter. Mystic is a breath of fresh air and when she recently re-released the CD in 2003 as Cuts For Luck Scars for Freedom...Learning to Breathe, I had to snatch that up too! I look forward to more music from this incredible Bay Area talent.
Beautiful, Sensual, Intelligent, and Touching.......2005-09-08
I first heard Mystic when I just happened to download it. Her music truely touched me in ways that hardly any other music has before. She sings about life, love, the streets, growing up, and heartache in all its many forms. After listening to what I could of her, I tried to find the cd at my local record store, only to be told that it was no longer in print. I am excited to have found it today, and wanted to pass on to those who read this that, first of all, I myself am a skeptic of recommendations that I read from people I do not know, but that I really don't see how everyone couldn't relate in some way and appreciate her music. It's one of a kind!
This album is live . . ........2005-09-02
. . . . . with its beats, rhymes and versus, this is additional proof that the Oakland independent music scene is the best in the country . . . and I live in Washington, DC!!!!!!!!!!!!

Product Description
Speaking to a generation in a way that few artists can, Disciple continues their mission of reaching a lost world with intense, driving, ferocious rock, leading the body of Christ into an explosive battle cry for The Cross. From the declarative anthem "Regime Change," to the raging charge "Game On," Disciple brings their hard-hitting message to the masses with Scars Remain. Life brings us trials, tribulation, and ulimately scars. But Christ has scars that match everything that we have experienced. The scars that remain on us are a reminder of all that Chris has done for us.

I feel like something busting, breaking out of its own skin..........2007-01-13
That line (my review's title) from "Purpose to Melody" pretty much describes this album. Disciple's latest "Scars Remain" album cannot be held back--it's just that incredible. It's heavier than their last release and the lyrics are phenomenal on pretty much every song. You really feel the need for our loving Savior and a joyous thankfulness for God's love while listening to this album; it's very present throughout. Here's a track by track breakdown:
1. Regime Change: This is just about the perfect hard rock song; it's incredibly intense and emotionally powerful. The intro really builds into the song beautifully. The lyrics about us, as Christians, fighting with our sinful selves are exceptional. The song also goes out with a incredible bang. Quite possibly my favorite song I've ever heard. A+++
2. Love Hate (On and On): Great song. The lyrics comparing/contrasting all of the love and hate in the world are phenomenal. They'll really make you think. The music is heavy and very well done. One of my favorites on the album. A++
3. My Hell: The lyrics to the song are awesome. It speaks about how anything (even Heaven) is Hell if God is not there. The music is good as well, but it didn't grab me with as much intensity as some of the others. B+
4. Scars Remain: The intensity of this song is probably an 11 on a scale of 10, and for a song about the pain we all feel, it is a perfect fit. The music is heavy and absolutely beautiful. A++
5. Game On: Great song about holding our ground for the ones we love and fighting back against terrorism. It's a very inspirational song and should definitely make anyone strongly opposed to war under any circumstances rethink their stance. Kevin's passionate vocals remind me a lot of the pain, betrayal, and anger we all felt on 9/11. The music has a great heavy beat and the vocals sound like some of their older stuff as Kevin's vocals are a combination of rapping/screaming for the majority of the song. A+
6. Someone: Fantastic song about feeling God's presence all around us and that you can easily prove His existence by just looking at the order of nature's cycles and the way all species behave. Extremely awesome heavy intro. You'll get your head banging whether you want to or not. The verses are slowed down a bit, but the chorus is really heavy as well. This is another of my favorites. A++
7. After the World: The first of two ballads on the album. The song is written from God's point of view, as He's calling out that He is what we're looking for in this life and that He has and always will be here for us. The vocals are great, and the music is slow and builds into powerful choruses. The bridge is wonderful, as well. It's an absolutely beautiful song and puts a lot of modern rock ballads to shame. A++
8. Dive: Great song about finding our strength in God. We need him to rejuvinate us when we are growing weary, and this song is praising Him just for doing that for us. It's a very fast song and the music is fast, hard, and very catchy. I love this one. A++
9. Fight For Love: Probably one of the most intense songs on the album. Kevin starts off by screaming the first two lines of the verse acapella, and the song never looks back. The song talks about fighting for Christ, our first true love, and fighting for all of the ones who do not know Him, whom he loves so very dearly. Great, great song and one of my favorites. A++
10. Purpose to Melody: Incredible song about the Christian journey/relationship and it sounds like it is more specifically written about Disciple's own journey as being God's servants in a Christian rock band. The intensity of the song is unstoppable, and the lyrics are very inspirational. This song is also very heavy, and the music is just incredible. The chorus is one of my favorite choruses in any song. A++
11. No End at All: Beautiful second ballad of the album. The lyrics are, once again, very good. The song talks about how God is there with each of us through all of our rough times, and how nothing can separate us from his unending love. The guitar in the verses is great (even sort of beautifully haunting) and the music transitions to a feeling a joy and thankfulness for God's neverending love in the chorus. A
So, there you have it. Each song on this album is incredibly good, which is such a triumph today in music. Also each track is unique, so the album never gets monotonous (something many other rock albums suffer from). It also holds up well over repeated listenings (it has hardly left my CD player in the two months I've had it). It's probably Disciple's best album and very possibly the best album I have ever heard. Check it out! I think you'll be glad you did!
One of the best albums I have ever heard!.......2006-11-17
I love Christian rock music and Disciple has been my favorite band for quite some time now. So, when I received my copy of "Scars Remain," I had some pretty high hopes. I heard several of the new songs at an awesome Disciple concert in September. Also, I had listened to their first single off of the album "Regime Change" numerous times on the radio and MySpace, and it just blew me away. The incredible music and intensity of the song meshes perfectly with the subject of our desire as Christians to separate ourselves from our sinful selves and even the deep longing to murder that part of ourselves. Anyway... I have listened to album all the way through numerous times now, and I think I can safely say it is the best album I have ever heard.
Disciple's sound on the album feels like a mixture of their signature heavy metal sound (listen to their great albums "This Might Sting a Little," "By God," and "Back Again") and their latest self-titled album. It's much heavier than the self-titled "Disciple" album and equally as heavy and intense as "Back Again" (if not moreso). Brad, Joey, and Tim are back playing their instruments the way they do so very well: synchronized to produce a great hard rock sound. Brad mixes up the palm-muting and playing open to create a great variety on the guitar. He also has several solos on this album. Yet, the album still has sort of the same feel as the self-titled album (probably because Kevin continues to do a lot of fantastic singing on this album). Also, Kevin really brings a great variety of screaming and singing on this album, and the guys have really mixed in a great variety of heavy rock/metal and alternative-type stuff. All in all, I think it's Disciple's best-sounding record yet, and probably the best album I've ever heard musically..... secular or Christian. It's incredibly strong all the way through...... you won't want to skip a song and it will probably be difficult to pick out a best song on here. "Scars Remain" is just that good.
Disciple has written some phenomenal lyrics for this one, as well. I hate to sound like a broken record, but the lyrics on this album are also probably some of the best lyrics they've put out yet. I have already mentioned how much I love "Regime Change," but there are so many other great ones. "Love Hate" has a lot of brilliant contrasts between the love and hate in this world. You can really feel how the hatred in this world is grating on Kevin as he sings the song. One line in particular brings me to tears nearly every time I hear it: "A mother is willing to give her life, while another one throws away her child." "Fight for Love" is a fantastic song about how we should be desperately fighting for the souls of all of Jesus' children that He loves so dearly, and therefore we should love so desperately. "Scars Remain" is a great song about how we all share pain and scars..... no matter where we are in life (which reminds us of Christ's scars for us and directly points to everyone's need for a savior). "Game On" is an incredible, raging anthem about fighting against terrorism and rising up to defend our families and our country. "After the World" is a beautiful song from God's perspective about His amazing, incomprehensible love for us (Kevin's singing on this track sounds great, too). There are just so many highlights on this album that I would have to list nearly every song to explain how wonderful the message of this album is.
All I can say to close this review is to just check out this album. If you like rock music or Christian music (or both), you will absolutely love this album. Even if you typically don't listen to Christian music, don't write this album off. There's no judgmental themes to be found here. The music is breathtaking and top-notch, and this album is filled with love, hope, and themes clearly showing that we all have a need for a savior...... the loving Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Thank you, Disciple, for another fantastic album, and for some of the very best music I've ever heard! This CD won't be leaving my player for quite some time!

Great solid album........2007-02-23
I personally think the audio on this album sounds terrific. I listen mostly in my car on my stereo, which is mostly all high end with subs and the whole works. I don't know what the other guy is talking about with poor quality. Everything is very distinct and audible, nothing gets real washed out or muddy sounding. This is an album that you have to be in the state of mind for it because its not about random pointless subjects. The lyrics are the kind of hurt/bitter/angry type, so if you're not sitting on top of the world in your life right now, this album should sit perfectly with you. Good job guys.
Could've been better............2006-11-05
whoever eq'd certain parts of this album needs to be slapped. I took out 1 star for poor production, and one for performance. The vocals on the title track where Mike tries to sound like Alex from Atreyu are irritating, just 'cause Scars is way better than Atreyu, they shouldn't be influenced by them. Also, the Caliban-style overproduced clean vocals on a few of the tracks. As far as production goes, The Horror of Realization sounded way, way better. The kick drum's slap it way too high pitched on the album. It's more than likely a sound replaced kick using a trigger, but the kick they chose to use just sucks. The guitars are way, way too bassy to the point that when I listen to the beginning of Nashville through my studio monitors, it crackles all over the place. The rest of the drums sound great, musically this album is about on-par w/ their last. Love these guys to death, just hope their next effort is mixed better......

I Assume This Is The DVD Version (If It Isnt Dojn't Bother Wasting Your Money On The DVD)Ill Start With The Album, This Short Little Spawn Of Mayham Is Good Deicide And Nothing Else(Even The Song Mad At god Which I Found A lyrical failure) Is good. The DVD however is quite a letdown, the first part is alrihgt explains how the album is made(well how the vocal's are anyways) and it show's in on the band's live's which is alright i guess, some parts were inteesting but i got bored when steve started showing off his gun collection, and i feel that they could have also gotten the video for the title track on here (and a making of feature for that) if they tried.
Best Death Metal Album.......2006-04-03
This is my favorite Death Metal Album of all time. I'm a huge fan of every deicide album, even the ones that most agree weren't all that good. They just stepped it up to a new level on this effort. The sound they get out of their guitars is huge and unearthly. The over all atmosphere Deicide creates is on an epic orchestra like level. I've never heard metal like this before. Other great albums by this band are their self titled album, Serpents of the Light, and Legion. If you're new to Deicide you might want to try those ones first. This album takes a little time to digest.
Don't listen to the Christian reviewer below me, if there is a God I'm sure he's got better things to do that worry about what kind of music were into; you think he'd be more offended if we were listening to talentless, mediocre, kiss A$$ Christen Rock. `Praise Jesus, He's so great, Praise him, He needs your acceptance and approval, it's like crack to him.' Grow up people.
This is one rules!!.......2006-04-02
Now 1st of all I would like to talk to Mr. Noel Kelly "A_Christian" Dude now just to let you know. YOU are dead wrong!!!! I used to be a christian along time ago but now I hate the church, etc. That church stuff is brain washing you to make you say the same thing as I hear from the rest of them people. You need to wake up!!! Now this cd is one of there best works!!! I have been rocking out with them for along time! So if you want to hear something that is going kick your ear drums in then pick up this!!!!

Album Description
Trophy Scars - not just a roving clan of substance abusing ninjas, but also a distinguished group of intelligent musicians. Using their clever craft of swordplay and word manipulation to deliver a unique blend of tragedy; soaring pianos, epic guitars, lung-punching bass, acute percussion, screams, yells, and singing all crashing into each other - making for a new and unusual cocktail.
Customer Reviews:
A musical accomplishment.......2006-12-30
The diversity of this album is just insane. From hip hop to screamo to post-hardcore, it's all here, and it's all amazing.
The vocals here are drool-worthy. The screams and yells are anything but smooth sounding, but damn, are they suiting to the agressive drumming and angry guitar.
This is an absolute must-have for ANY fan of screamo or post-hardcore music. Or if you just appreciate diversity in general, get this. Now.
my true age is irrelevant.......2006-11-10
If you're like me, which you're not, but if you are, you're wonder just what exactly is original post-hardcore\hardcore. You've heard the claims about uh...well...EVERY band about their incapibility of producing anything orginal. Yet the people behind the accusations usualy can never give you an "original" band to listen to. So much so, that the term 'unoriginal' has been degraded to just a reason to not like a band by self proclaimed music eleitests and scene kids (while they're liking another band exactly like it) proving their incompetentness.
You want an original band? You got it. Enter Tropy Scars. They combind breath taking lyrics throughly thought out that would turn 'the scene' upside down and walk them off a cliff. Hopefuly. Anyways, they combind that with almost emotive hardcore/emo voilence influences, more evident in their earlier works. I've never heard more passionate vocals. The keyboard have never been used more effectivly. I've never heard a rap segment in the middle of a post-hardcore song, and I wish I haven't still, but it proves their creativity and broadness. All this along with that post hardcore sound everyone loves to hate, to make something that is genuinely original. It's not progressive. It's not experimental. Those terms have lost all meaning with bands that write 15 minute epics and claim it to be original when they're on tour with 5 bands just like them. No, this is something..more. It's hard to explain. Their sounds is more unique and eccentric, there is not very many other words to describe their sound without having a negitive influence attatched.
Quite honestly, I could write a book on Trophy Scars. There arn't many bands I respect more, if any. These guys will never be big, they will never be popular, and most people wont like them. But this is music to your ears if you're a REAL music fan. And no, that doesn't include you, Mrs. My Chemical Romance, Silverstein, *name any band in the same ballpark*, the list goes on. Find their MySpace or Purevolume and give them a listen before you buy this. It's not made for everyone, and it's not meant to be. But if you crave something genuine, un-scene influenced, and are seeking the true meaning of original, you've found a home in Trophy Scars.
Assessment. Assessments........2006-08-28
Wow. This band is effing amazing. It's becoming harder to impress me nowadays with so many bands producing garbage that is just a ripoff of past bands that have already done it so well. The "scene" is focusing even more on what you look like than what you sound like. If that is NOT what you're looking for in a post-hardcore band, then Trophy Scars is for you. This is a band that is making progress in post-hardcore and that is hard to find. I'd also recommend their EP Goodnight Alchemy.
A Dank CD.......2006-06-14
I heard of Trophy Scars about a year ago and never really gave them a chance. Finally i heard of this CD and listened to it. It is sick. They are very different than your average band if your into original bands.
My favorite song have to be Alchemist. Alchemists. Check them out..
