Riding high on the phenomenal success of A Rush of Blood to the Head, Coldplay is in peak form on Coldplay Live 2003. This CD/DVD two-pack was filmed (on Super-16mm film) and recorded in Sydney's Horden Pavilion on July 21 and 22, 2003, during an exhaustive year-long world tour, and the medium-sized arena provides a fitting stage for the London-based rock quartet, not so grand as to overwhelm the music, but large enough to indicate their large and loyal following, which includes enthusiastic fans of either gender. Especially when played in DTS 5.1 surround, this 90-minute concert is richer, thicker, and (of course) louder than Coldplay's studio recordings, lending a wall-of-sound expansiveness to the band's signature sound, which draws from such diverse influences as Genesis, Pink Floyd, The Verve, U2, and their own unique sonic landscape. "Politik" gets the gig off to a rousing start, and other impressive! highlights include "Daylight," "Yellow," the as-yet-unreleased new song "Moses," and the popular hits "In My Place," "Clocks," and "The Scientist." And while the concert visuals are slick and professional (perhaps placing a bit too much emphasis on singer/frontman Chris Martin), this DVD and CD--the latter containing a truncated 70-minute version of the same performance--are best appreciated for their pristine audio quality. Culled from 400 hours of home video, the 40-minute "concert diary" represents a wasted opportunity, enjoyable for hardcore fans but offering no insight into the band or its individual members. Much better, then, to play the concert at healthy high volume, and appreciate Coldplay in the prime of their young career. --Jeff Shannon
Description
The two-disc set includes a 90-minute, nine-camera, super 16 live shoot taken from their July 21 and 22, 2003 performances at the Horden Pavilion in Sydney, Australia, as well as band commentary, a never before broadcast behind-the-scenes documentary, a special tour diary and the edited audio CD. The DVD and CD will also include two PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED live tracks- "The One I Love" and "Moses."

coldplay live....good background music.......2007-04-10
Coldplay is definitely a solid live band, the problem is, from a production; sound quality standpoint, how do intelligent musicians like this not realize that you need to increase the high end (treble) to maximize the low end (bass)....the way we used to do back in the 80's...the resonance of the bass is greatly reduced without the high end...this is how bands back then used to get that bright, echo-ee, clean live sound...man, i saw eddie money outdoors one october night at heather farms in walnut creek, ca, and his band sounded freaking awesome...bassy, trebly...crystal clear, the sound just cut through the night sky...anyway, when i hear the last two or three minutes of Politik...I'm in absolute heaven...as good as it is, it could have been so much better - along with the rest of the album, with a little bit stronger production / sound quality...This band is way too talented to suffer from sound like this...That being said, this is a solid live album, and you can't go wrong with the cd/dvd combo pak. And by the way, Chris Martin apparently says we're in for a real treat...they have an incredible song in the works that's about to be released...looking forward to it bro...and to you and the band getting back on the road again...who knows, maybe next time you guys come around, i can actually afford to buy a ticket...peace...out
Quality Product.......2007-03-08
I received this product on time, and was very pleased with my purchase. This is a very good concert for those that really enjoy Coldplay and have not been fortunate enough to go to a real concert.
COLDPLAY LIVE.......2006-11-06
I went to a live Coldplay show and this DVD was as spectacular as the live show!! I reccomend this to any Coldpay fan or anyone that is a fan of live music. ENJOY!!
im listen to this genre too.......2006-07-29
coldplay is a great band. this album is for real fans.
the dvd is bangin ya'll
the songs are great and have a distinct sound only coldplay can produce.
Quite good concert but sloppy editing.......2006-05-03
It's always fun watching concert DVD's. For one thing, being a musician, I can actually watch not only how they play the songs but see the musicianship of the band without the benefit of redoing takes and overdubbing certain parts. It's still a bit too early for a Coldplay DVD but still it's quite a good one regardless, it's just marred by the MTV-style editing that I'm very much despising at the moment.
The show combines some tracks from first release Parachutes to 2nd release A Rush of Blood to the Head, as well as 3 non-album tracks. There's of course crowd favorites such as Trouble(with a huge end sing along), the Scientist, Clocks, Don't Panic, Yellow with a beautifully sung intro to album tracks such as Amsterdam, Daylight and Shiver. As for the 3 non-album tracks, I love 2: The One I Love, a big rocker with a catchy ending("sing it to me, oh oh") and See You Soon, a beautiful/melancholy acoustic ballad.
The editing problems are first evident in the Politik intro. While the track itself has that pounding beat, so does the editing and it's incredibly jarring. It reminds me of an old guy trying to get in the mindset of a young person by acting and talking fast so the hyperactive camera is a result of a "this is what the kids want" mentality. Like most DVD's, the lead singer Chris Martin tends to get the most attention. A talent yes but other band members get very quick shots before going back to Chris. At one point I almost thought I saw band member to Chris to band member to Chris rather than switching between the 4 of them.
It would've been nicer if they waited till X&Y came out so we can get Square One, Speed of Sound and Fix You live but that's alright. Knowing the record company, we'll get another one soon.

Great to Hear All those great Voices from the Past.......2007-07-05
I just wanted to confirm what the first reviewer had to say about this CD. To hear Ethyl Merman, Mary Martin, Andrea McCardle etc. singing their trademark songs brought a lot of memories from the mid-centry musical theater back again. The last song by Glynis Johns is especially poignant.
You certainly can't beat the price!
A Good One!.......2006-11-10
This is a very good CD, mostly because it's the original artists. I've had some that were re-recorded by no name artists that were ghastly. This one is a really good one--including the sound quality. If I had one wish, I would wish it were longer!

Good From the Heart.......2006-02-01
Don't get me wrong, they looked a lot better in the 80's with stilletos and all that make-up, and puffy hair that could raise any skyscraper, but old Heart is a hell of a lot better than their newer stuff. I thought they sounded like they meant it like: Crazy On You, Barracuda, Straight On, Heartless (my favorite from them). Yep these vixens who were compared to Led Zeppelin as a hell of a rock band, boy oh boy, pretty damn close I might add. Anyways this album kicks serious butt.
WHERE IS STRANGE EUPHORIA?.......2005-05-30
"Strange Euphoria" was the one of the "new" songs on this recording but it was deleted from the CD of this late 1980 release. Call Strange Euphoria" what you want, but it is a cool song and sounds like Ann and Nancy are on a LSD trip while singing. It was a great song which was not replicated on 1997's Whirlygig even though Heart tried.
The cover sports one of my favorite photos of Ann Wilson with the stand-off-ish, jacked up, over-confident look.
Excellent Introduction To Heart Before 1984 Hit Sensation.......2005-05-28
Greatest Hits Live originally recorded in 1980 was one of my early CD purchases during early 90s but I happened to miss simply because it was dubbed as "Live" and I thought that was not I had been looking for. (At that time I was looking for Definitive collection of Heart including 80s hits). Time has changed and I happened to uncover this CD from the heap of my dusted CD collections.
It has nine best tracks from their early works such as Dreamboat Annie(1976), Little Queen(1977), Magazine(1978), Dogs and Butterfly(1978), Bebe Le Strange(1980). On the back jacket name of the albums the each tracks are from are shown. Then the album become live recording collection during August and September 1980 tour. Live recording of BEBE LE STRANGE takes place at the stage side where the chat among members before the show can be heard. Interesting intrigue. TELL IT LIKE IT IS is unusually not live but studio recording and became single cut from this greatest CD. And then the ending live performance is LED ZEPPELIN classic ROCK'N ROLL. Alas, it shows their rock spirit.
Yes, it misses PRIVATE AUDITION(1982) and PASSIONWORK material to be the early Heart collection. But the timing for the release was excellent because it was made when HEART was at their artistic height.
Verdict: It is no doubt Heart fans' essential and 70s rock fans' paradise. Showing well how HEART had been during their early prime.
Rating: 88 out of 100. Well-edited (particularly Silver Wheel and Crazy On You combination just as their live performance) and consistent. Transition from studio recording part and live recording part has been done excellently.
Recommended for: Every Heart fan. Lots of 70s rock fans and the appreciators of recent Heart releases such as Desire Walks On(1993) and Jupiters Darling(2004).
The Missing Links would make this 5 stars.......2005-05-26
Will they ever release this CD remastered with the 3 missing songs, Strange Euphoria, Hit Single and Unchained Melody?
This was the first greatest hits package ever released by Heart. Heart is my favorite band and I am only able to give this 4 stars because of the missing songs and the missing inner sleeve photos.
Those of us who bought this album when it came out, simply wore the damn thing out. When you enjoy an album like that you should be able to hear it on CD in it's original state. It kills me when a record label omits songs to squeeze the release onto one CD. I would have paid and still will pay the price to have this release in it's original line-up of songs. Kansas did the same thing with their live album, Two For The Show, as did Nazareth and Jethro Tull with their live albums.
Otherwise, Greatest Hits/Live is a masterpiece. Heart have released other greatest hits albums more recently and only one of them really defines the first years of their career better than this. However, I simply must have the 3 songs missing from this album. Won't somebody do something about this!
Bought it for a hit - not worth anything actually.......2004-07-13
Back in the days when I tried to collect the much-reviled (of course I was not aware of it then) hits of the pre-Nirvana era, hearing the then-unplayed "Magic Man" (reviled by my brother).
it is fair to say that this loud rock hit singles collection really has nothing to offer, being, except for the fairly generic folkie flourishes that make such songs as "Dreamboat Annie (Fantasy Child)" mildly worthwhile to listen to, there is nothing more than amelodic noise in most of these tunes, especially "Barracuda" - whilst "Crazy On You" really was awfully overblown.
The later songs, dating from 1978 to 1980, are mostly live but at the same time even less memorable and more overblown. there was none of the listenable acoustic passages present in these songs as the band bridged whatever distance existed between it and radio. Here we see the first pseudo-macho posturer after Suzi Quatro emerge - though Ann and Nancy Wilson never intended to start what can only be described as a very bad trend for women in music. Even so, they could at least have become a listenable folk duo in any other era.

A Stunning Document of early 80's Journey.......2007-06-15
Awesome sound quality, Awesome performance, Awesome setlist!
This CD also comes with a nice fold out card stock inner booklet with some very nice pictures. All of which I've never seen before (unpublished?).
As for some of the reviewers saying that Steve Perry is reliving the past by putting out the Houston Live 1981 & Greatest Hits DVDs, let me shed some light to this myth. Steve Perry was approached by John Kalodner (A&R Guru) to get involved with these projects and oversee production. There are also interviews where John Kalodner states having lunch with Steve Perry asking him to reconsider joining Journey.
In case you're wondering what kind of clout John Kalodner has, whenever you see his name in the credits of an album/CD, it just simply states:
John Kalodner : John Kalodner
His name is his title. Kind of like- God : God
Don't get me wrong, he's not God, but is held in very high regard in the music business amongst musicians and record executives alike. He put Aerosmith back together in the mid 80's.
John asked Steve Perry to produce and Steve Perry said yes.
NEWSFLASH!!!! Journey is without a lead singer once again. Their website has just announced that Jeff Scott Soto (filing in for the ailing Steve Augeri) is no longer in Journey.
I smell a Steve Perry/Journey reunion, don't you?
had to get cd.........2005-12-29
This cd is a replacement of the Journey-Greatest Live tape that I had found in a music store. I had played the tape so much that it became useless. This cd brings back the Memories of youth, fun, rock and roll. It has all the best songs on it. This is the cd that made my kids fans, I can not keep them away from mine.
Great collection of songs but.......2005-11-20
Captured is better. It has a better "live" feel than this one. I'm just not feeling it with this album. Despite reading most of these (and other) reviews first, I bought it anyway since I like their music. If you don't have Captured, buy that one first.
Great live album from a great band.......2005-01-23
Great melodies, super tight band, great vocals and all live with no overdubs. Most live albums are full of fixes and overdubs but this band was a band that sounded live the way they did on the record but with more live energy. Steve's voice soars. If you are a Journey fan this is a must have. Obviously they were much more than just an 80s pop rock band. They could really play and sing great. Refreshing in a time when so many acts are lip syncing, singing to tracks, or just singing poorly. This is an example of how a great band is supposed to sound live. They made sure they gave the audience their moneys worth. And so does this CD.
another underated super group.......2004-12-26
after listening and comparing this compendium album with others done by groups recognized as great power groups, i was shocked by how well they measure up to the likes of cream, zeplin and santana. sorry to admit that i didn,t even know who their lead player was. neal shoun's work on this album compares favorably with jimmy pages work on how the west was won and without overpowering steve perry's usual superb vocals. if you are only going to own 1 journey album this probably needs to be it. it also shows that, despite what some of us older rock fans believe, a few great groups did really exist in that decade.

It was alright. The mixing is a little off.The sound quality isn't what it could've been,. I wish they would've miked the audience better. I missed songs like "Here I Am" and "Even the Nights Are Better". It just seems kind of "low budget". But Russell Hitchcock is still my hero. He can do no wrong.Keep stirring the heart guys. The best way to sum up Air Supply's "Greatest Hits Live: Now and Forever" is that this is not your regular live album. This album brings 10 of the best Air Supply songs performed live with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra. There are two studio songs: There is a new song called "The Way I Feel" and a remake of an earlier Air Supply classic "Now and Forever". The live songs are really the pieces that are going to fuel this album's strength. The live pieces were recorded in Taipei, Taiwan in 1995. Air Supply's days as a hit-making machine had long passed for about 12 years now. By 1995, the band still had a solid following (especially outside the U.S.), so by finally releasing a live album almost 20 years into their careers they had nothing to lose. This effort would help continue to keep the existing fan base happy, help some of the old fan base rediscover Air Supply, and harvest some new Air Supply fans.
Air Supply's performance on this collection is augmented a couple of ways. They are accompanied by some outstanding studio musicians - most noteably a pianist named Guy Allison who is going to help compliment the outstanding keyboards already in place by Graham Russell. Allison has played a role in 90s Air Supply as a songwriter too - co-writing the songs "Always" and "Someone". You'll hear the power of the piano and keyboards many of the big name classics that are included on the album. The interesting thing is that the Orchestra doesn't have as prominent role as on other albums by artists who have done live albums with one. The Orchestra's role is perfect making this very much an Air Supply album with a key focus on the talents of the stars - Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock. It will be the combination of Graham Russell and Guy Allison's keyboard and pianos that really are going to steal the show when it comes to the instrumentation - especially on tracks like "Making Love Out of Nothing at All", "All Out of Love", "Lost in Love", "Sweet Dreams"
The trademark Air Supply vocals are on this album. Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock have some tremendous dual harmonies on the songs "Lost in Love", "Sweet Dreams", and on the classic remake of "Unchained Melody". What I like about their version of "Unchained Melody" is how they use the classic Air Supply crescendo to build up the song at the end, nobody does this better than Air Supply. There is a lot of true emotion on this CD, but none comes to life better than in "The One That You Love", when Russell Hitchock shows an elated emotion with a slight chuckle of joy when he sings "we have the right you know". As usual Graham Russell is perfect in complimenting Hitchcock's lead vocals. This is also heard on "The One That You Love". You will hear some classic trade off on the lead vocals between Graham and Russell; noteably on the song "Goodbye" (which is a David Foster penned song, you can hear his trademark keyboard influence).
The two most powerful numbers are the first live song, "Making Love Out of Nothing At All" and the last live song (actually the 10th track since the remaining 2 are the studio cuts included), "All Out of Love". The live version of "Making Love Out of Nothing At All" even blows away the great studio version. Hitchcock again shows how in touch he is with the crowd and music when he sings "I can make all of the stadiums - ROCK!" (emphasis on the Rock). To me the "Rock" blows me away each time I hear it and it helps set the table for the remaining live cuts to have the high energy and emotion you would expect from an Air Supply live performance. On "All Out of Love", when Russell sings and holds the 'of' on "what are you thinking of" - instead of the classic slight pause you hear on the studio track, you'll hear a spectacular drum pattern followed by the significant pause. It's almost like a mini encore during the pause. The drum pattern lasts about 20 seconds and the pause goes about another 30 seconds. It is the perfect ending to what is a most powerful performance by the band. It's also worth noting that "Sweet Dreams" is very powerful number as well - the keyboard intro will just blow you away.
The liner notes are pretty good. All of the lyrics to all of the songs were included. It would have been nice to see on which songs the Symphony Orchestra played a more prominent role. It also would have been nice to put the album references on each song, but the song copyright date is included. I would have also liked to have seen some more photos (there are six - plus the cover photo).
As for drawbacks, the only real gripe I have is that only six of the classic songs are included from the album. Perhaps if they could have made this a longer album, they could have included tracks like "Just as I Am", "Two Less Lonely People in the World", and "Even the Nights are Better". Don't let this drawback deter you, because the later years stuff included is very good. This is a solid Live Album and one highly recommended for your collection. Judging this as a live album, it really does everything a live album should do - I give it the 5 star rating.
The best Live album I've ever heard.......2004-03-21
About 5 years ago I went to an Air Supply concert. It was really good I have to say, and I even got to go up and meet one of the performers during the concert. So after the concert I went out to buy this CD and grew attatched to the music very easily.
The CD starts out with "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All", which is a good beginning to this LIVE album. It is one of my favorite songs, along with the 7 minute, 14 second "Sweet Dreams". That song is really amazing in lengths that it has a huge piano solo in it in which when I heard it in the concert I was completely blown away. Guy Allison, the pianist, has a great talent that really shines in this album, and in particular this song.
Another song on this album that is remarkable is the ever so popular "Unchained Melody". Air Supply did a very good rendition of this song. One of their big hits, Lost in Love is also really good.
I liked the songs so much that I picked up "The Best Of Air Supply" song booklet for Piano/Guitar/Vocal. It shows you all of the chords and recreates the magic of their sound. A great momento if you are a music tracker type of person.
All in all I really enjoyed listening to this album for the past several years and am going to continue to listen to it a lot in the future. If you want yourself some good soft rock/classic rock sound to listen to, this is a great album to pick up. 5/5 Stars for sure.
#1, The Greatest!.......2002-12-21
Air Supply has always and will always be the best. All of their albums are gold. Russell has such a strong and beautiful voice that will just take your breath away. I have seen them in concert every year, and I can't wait until they come back. I know their next album will be as great as every other. I'm looking forward to their new album, which I understand will be coming out sometime in 2003. Keep on rock'n air Supply! You guys are great! Susanne Curro at eiscu2000@att.net.
Highly critical review.......2001-12-26
This is a terrible CD. I like their music, but this particular CD is absolutely awful...
Fro some reason, these guys are out of tune, their voices are shot (another review describes them as being "mature"), they cannot hit the hight notes, and sound like they both have a bad cold or the flu when they recorded this. I think this was a final effort to squeeze money out of a credulous public that did not expect these "artists" or their music to simply be so bad in person. I am embarrassed to own this album, and I advise you to save your money and spend it on something else.

The Jersey Boys in their prime........2006-02-25
I have always enjoyed Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons but after seeing Jersey Boys, I was hungry for more music from them. This album includes quite a few of their top hits and my favorite memories.
A Class Act.......2004-07-11
One of the greatest acts in music histroy, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons scored a string of hits between 1962 and 1968 plus a few more with a differnt lineup in the 1970s'. In 1981, the latter incarnation reunited and created this excellent live album.
This album features all the songs you could want: "Sherry", "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Walk Like A Man", "Rag Doll", "Let's Hang On", "I've Got You Under My Skin", "Workin' My Way Back To You", "Who Loves You" and "December 1963 (Oh, What A Night)". Evne though most of them are in medley form, they all still bristle with the freshness of the original version. Also, a few great Valli solo numbers are done: "Our Day Will Come", "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", "Fallen Angel", "Swearin' To God", "My Eyes Adored You" and an exhilerating version of "Grease". Two new songs are also done: the single "Spend The Night In Love" and the joyous "Heaven Must Have Sent You (Here In The Night").
This is a great live album. Valli's voice is in great shape and the falsetto is still there. Get it today. I guarantee you will enjoy it immensely.
A Live Album For All Seasons.......2004-06-02
Between 1962 and 1976, the New Jersey quintet The Four Seasons had over 15 top 10 hits and a few more that made the top 30. Add that with a few more hits by lead singer Frankie Valli, they might be the most successful American male vocal group of all time. In 1989, The Four Seasons went back out on the road for a reunion, playing to sold - out audiences all over the world. Their concert in Holmdell, New Jersey is the one highlighted here on this live album.
All the hits fans are dying to hear are here - "Sherry", "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Walk Like A Man", "Rag Doll", "Bye Bye Baby (Baby Goodbye)", "Let's Hang On" and many more. My only complaints are that their 2 big '70s hits ("Who Loves You" and the number 1 hit "December 1963 (Oh What A Night)") and newer material as well as Valli's 5 biggest solo hits, are included in complete versions while the classic 1960s' materials are banished to medley form. Still, they remain some of the best music ever recorded. And Valli's solo spot on "My Eyes Adored You" show that his voice just gets better with age, and the Seasons' harmonies remain beautiful. There are also two then - new recordings that might have been big hits had they been released as singles: "Spend The Night In Love" and "Heaven Must Have Sent You (Here In The Night)".
Overall, a great live show. The Four Seasons remain timeless faces in pop music today. There music will outlast anything by Eminem, Britney Spear, Christina Aguilerra, Ashanti, Beyonce, 50 Cent, G Unit, D 12 and so on and so forth. Get this album today and you won't be sorry. Have I ever let you down?
Can't Take My Ears Off Of It.......2004-04-14
The biggest group of the pre - Beatles '60s' (1960 to January 1964), The Four Seasons were the first group in history to have 3 consecutive # 1 singles, and their career lasted well through 1968. The original nucleus of the group disintegrated in 1971, so lead singer Frankie Valli began a highly successful solo career that yielded two number one hits, "My Eyes Adored You" and "Grease", plus a string of top 40 hits including "Swearin' To God" and "Our Day Will Come". In 1976, The Four Seasons reformed with Valli as the only original member, and scored a # 1 hit with "December 1963 (Oh, What A Night)". After a few more mid - charting singles, the new version of the band broke up in the early 1980s', during which Valli regained his hearing. In 1989, the latter - day 4 Seasons reunited and went on tour. Their electrifying performance in Holmdel, New Jersey is included on this cd.
Beginning with a rauous version of "She Loves You", the band has clearly not lost its touch. Valli's voice still sparkles like wine, although his falsetto his died down a bit. He sounds young and alive on "December, 1963", "My Eyes Adored You" and "Our Day Will Come". The rest of the group's harmonies shine throughout the cd, especially on the clsoing medley and the closing chorus on "My Eyes Adored You". Also included are two new recordings not available anywhere else: "Spend The Night In Love" and "Heaven Must Have Sent You (Here In The Night)". Both are great songs in vain of the 1960s' charttoppers. And original member and songwriter Bob Gaudio pops up onstage for all to brief a moment.
This cd showcases that after over 30 years, the group is still one of the finest acts out there. This was also the first Four Seasons cd I ever bought, so it does hold a lot of emotional value for me. Classic.
Workin' My Way Back to You, Babe!.......2002-06-11
Wow! This is such a great album. It is so full of energy and the songs from the past. You see the list of songs on Amazon's list. It's all the 4 Season biggies. Play it LOUD, in the car. It'll rev you up. Sing along with the oldies. The medleys are great, too. The "20" songs include the medleys. There are only xxx tracks, but 20 songs in all. On a scale of 1 - 5, this album is at least a 10 or better.
Right now (May 2007), there is a musical out there called "Jersey Boys". It's about the life of Franki Valli and the 4 Seasons and has a lot of these songs in it. I just saw it in Manhattan. If you get a chance, see it. It's excellent and the music (this music) will have you clapping and stomping.

The Ventures are the most successful instrumental group of the rock era, having sold over 50 million records since 1960. Their worldwide popularity continues today, drawing huge crowds to their concerts. The live performances included in this collection were recorded between 1990 and 2002, and were taken mostly from their very successful tours of Japan. This two CD set is the first-ever live anthology collection released by The Ventures, and is a must-have for any Ventures fan. Every important song the group recorded is featured, including "Walk-Don't Run," "Hawaii Five-O," "Perfidia," "Secret Agent Man," and of course "Walk-Don't Run '64." This release also features some of the last recordings with original drummer and founding member Mel Taylor (he plays on the first eight tracks). This two CD set comes complete with an eight-page booklet featuring photos and a new interview with the band.

First CD 3 Stars Second CD 5 Stars.......2007-05-04
Most of the songs on the Second CD & House of the Rising Sun on the first CD have Nokie Edwards on lead which makes a BIG difference. While Bob Bogle & Jerry McGee are very good, Nokie's guitar playing is on a much higher level. Even today at age 72 Nokie still has the chops. He was Buck Owens orginal lead guitar player (Pre-Don Rich) & while is first love has always been CW Music, surf pays the bills! i would concur the mid 1960's LIVE Japan concert has more energy, they are better players today. How the Ventures could NOT be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is unbelieveable!!!
Its good but somehow lacks the punch from their sixties live performances.......2006-09-09
Although this double album has very good recordings and clear sound, for me this compilation of live performances (from 1999 to 2002)don't have the same energy and punch from the early 60's. If you are new to The Ventures I rather recommend "The Ventures Live in Japan '65".

Quality Recording by quality duo.......2004-12-18
There was a time in the 1980s when Daryl Hall and John Oates would be proclaimed "the most successful duo in Rock history". This argument can definitely be substaniated. One thing that has always been a weak spot is the lack of a solid live album from the duo. There had been two previous live efforts - "Livetime" and "Live at the Apollo". However, both of these albums failed to capture a major chunk of the portfolio of the Hall and Oates collection. "Livetime" was a 1978 release - and this was released before Hall and Oates would reach their peak period in the early 1980s. "Live at the Apollo" was more of an EP release that coincided with Hall and Oates' performance at Live Aid. The focus of this live album would be the alliance with the Temptations as well as some additional cuts. It wasn't until 2001, when Hall and Oates would release "Greatest Hits Live". This would be by far - their best live release and something very worthy of "the most successful duo in Rock history".
Normally when there is a live album released by a group, I prefer it to have certain attributes. I usually prefer the live album to be a live recording of an actual concert - as opposed to a conglomeration of songs from several concerts or a tour. The reason for this is that it brings continuity to the performance and is able to capture the magic of the band. On a Live Set, I like when you hear the band first take the stage and when the encores happen. I like when the band talks with the crowd. I also prefer the performance to be on the CD in the order as it was played in concert. All of these factors contribute to the magic. From reading the liner notes, this collection doesn't appear to happen on one night. The liner notes do indicate that these performances come from 1982's "Private Eyes" tour. Despite breaking one of my fundamental rules, the production team (led by Daryl and John) really did their homework. They found a way to bring continuity to this performance. Despite the fact you don't hear a lot of dialogue and don't really know the order these songs were played (it is possible this is in order), this is a terrific performance. Much of the reason is that the recording of this performance is outstanding - especially for 1982. You'll hear the instruments clearly as well as the voices of Daryl and John.
An interesting fact I learned is that this was originally intended to be released as a Double Live album (back in 1982). For whatever reasons, the project was shelved. As mentioned above, this was recorded during the "Private Eyes" tour. As a result, there aren't songs that are included from "H2O" and "Big Bam Boom". Although I would have liked to have had a live album that included tracks from these albums, this collection does the job in satisfying me. This is a result of the outstanding quality of the recording, quality of the production, and the actual energy of the performance.
One thing that I really like is that there are some lesser known songs to the mainstream fan that are included. These songs that are included are "How Does It Feel to Be Back", "Diddy Doo Wop", "Mano A Mano", and "United State". I found that these were excellent songs done in the live setting. Most of the well-known songs that were released (up until 1982) are included in the collection. I would have also liked to hear songs like "Las Vegas Turnaround", "Your Imagination", and "Everytime You Go Away" - but this again doesn't hurt was has been included.
As mentioned - I can't tell if the songs are in the actual order as they were done. However, the flow is outstanding. You'll also hear the Rock and Soul connection by Hall and Oates. For the Rock songs, they have a great Rock feel and the Soul songs have a great Soul feel. The collection kicks off with "Did It In a Minute". This a perfect opening song. There are great harmonies included with this song. It flows nice into the second song "How Does It Feel to Be Back". The collection really starts to move into high gear with the fifth track, "Rich Girl". I love the quick tempo that the duo applies to "Rich Girl". The instruments almost sound three dimensional on the that track. The great instrumentation continues with some nice guitar work and "whoooo"s for "She's Gone".
Tracks 7 and 8 are the best two tracks. These are two of Hall and Oates' best songs. I always felt "Kiss On My List" would be a great live song. This song completely lives up to my expectations. The guitar work is once again outstanding. John Oates is terrific on background vocals. The smooth hit "I Can't Go For That" follows. This is a near 6 1/2 minute version. There is terrific "jam" session at the end in which Daryl leads a "No Can Do" chant. The guitar work is a perfect compliment to the song's trademark saxaphone. The momentum of the collection continues with "Sara Smile" - which has a great segue into "Wait For Me. "Private Eyes" then follows - another solid number. The duo will also do a version of "You Lost That Lovin' Feeling". I'm not a big fan of this song, but the version done is pretty good. The collection then wraps up with terrific versions of "You Make My Dreams" and "United State" (this is a perfect closing song).
The liner notes have no lyrics, but there is an outstanding writeup by Jeremy Holiday that talks about the duo with a nice focus on this recording. Overall, this is one terrific performance. I highly recommend this - especially if you are a Hall and Oates fan.
All of the Best - Live?? No Way!.......2002-11-11
There are no real words to describe what it is truly like seeing these guys live - this collection is the next best thing to being there! The philly duo has been making music for over 20 years and today they sound better than ever. Soulful tunes with a rock edge has been their mantra from the very beginning and no one does it better. The collection encompasses songs from the deep, dark 70's to the dance, pop intensive 80's. Seriously, if you have ever loved Hall and Oates, but never seen them live - give yourself a treat, right now!
Still have it..........2002-09-02
In fact, not only do they stil have it, they have something they lacked before. Now the music truly is theirs, their variations are true, unpredictable, and skilled. Daryl's voice is impeccable. It is his voice that lends the ease to the music. But don't underestimate John's role in this. His work is also flawless. They are masters of their creations. Having seen them live, I could never listen to the studio versions on CD again. This CD is the truest recording of their live work. Buy this CD Yesterday!!
I hear the voices.......2002-03-15
Finally RCA is doing something with the H&O catalog. Where's the box set though? This is a great live recording. Unlike a lot of acts, this is a great live band. Daryl and John really take the live shows seriously and it shows. This set contains some of my favorite H&O songs including rocking renditions of How Does it Feel.., Kiss on my list, Diddy Doo Wop and United State. The recording and mix are both good and thankfully editing is very minimal. I wish the would have left a little of the between song banter in though. Guess you can't have everything and finally we are getting something. There is a lot more in the vault, now there's hope we get to hear it. Buy this NOW.
Back Together Again.......2002-01-10
Its like attending a Live Show. The recording quality is tremendous and the song selection is great.

We wish there were more...............2007-06-22
Sadly, this is the only live Carly album I know about, but it's a five star winner. Carly is said to suffer from severe stage fright; she has good company...Rosa Ponselle used to pray she'd get killed on the way to the Opera House [don't read more than I intend into the comparison; Carly is beautiful, fabulous, wonderful, and the dream girl of half the guys in the country; Rosa was merely the greatest singer that ever lived]. Some singers have "pirates" available, but I don't think Carly does.
The music here is well up to the standard we expect. She does here old standards to perfection, and puts a great spin on some newer music. "Two Hot Girls" is a treat. The recorded sound is all we could ask. Fabulous album....get it....you'll be glad you did.
Carly Simon "Greatest Hits Live".......2007-01-14
This is without a doubt the most sought after CD's that carly has ever produced. This album which was recorded live on a jetty in Lobsterville, Martha's Vineyard in 1987 as an HBO special. The songs that were chosen for this album marked the diversity of Carly's tremendous musical career. The DVD that was produced of the concert is the most sought after DVD of Carly's career. And to be fortunate enough to attend this concert was in itself a life remembering experience.

Carly Simon - Greatest Hits Live - BEYOND AWESOME!!!!
Carly is a great singer, this CD is 100 stars!!
With a voice like this, Carly is the one who should be vain.......2003-04-19
In my younger days, I would fairly often buy an album quite spontaneously, and Carly Simon's Greatest Hits Live is one of my better purchases of that type. I was familiar with a few of her songs, especially You're So Vain, but I can't say I was ever really a fan, so I don't really know why I was drawn to this CD at the time I bought it. This album certainly made me a Carly fan when I listened to it, though. I love her uniquely flowing, soothing voice. Several of the tracks on this CD are immediately recognizable when you hear them: Nobody Does It Better (which served as the theme song for a James Bond movie), the aforementioned You're So Vain, It Happens Everyday, Coming Around Again, and Anticipation. I had forgotten how great a song Anticipation is, having gone so many years without hearing it. My favorite happens to be a song I do not remember having heard before, You Belong To Me; Simon seems to pack a great deal of emotion and feeling into it and makes of it something really special. All eleven songs are remarkably consistent in sound and presentation although spanning a total of 16 years, a fact which can be explained to some degree by the fact that Carly Simon wrote or co-wrote every track except for Nobody Does It Better. The 1970s material is more familiar and enjoyable than those tracks from the late 1970s and the early- to mid-1980s, but there's not a bad song to be found here at all. I had never realized until recently that Carly Simon had such a fear of performing live, and that makes me appreciate this live album even more than I already did. With such obvious musical talent and that richly melodic voice, Simon stands as one of the most amazing female vocalists of the last thirty years. She can sing about love and loss and still make you feel good doing so, which is quite remarkable in my book.
Living Things Up With Carly.......2002-11-02
Opening up her live performance with the smash Bond theme "Nobody Does It Better", Carly knows what to give her listeners. One of her best singles, and probably one of the few great Carly tracks she didn't have her own hand in, it's a lovely opener into her most well known and well loved classic. I'm, of course, talking about the smoldering "You're So Vain". The brief "It Happens Everyday", leads to another undeniable Carly classic, the beloved "Anticipation". Other dazzling live performances of her hits follow, gems being "The Right Thing To Do", "You Belong To Me", and "All I Want Is You". Perhaps the strongest highlight is the seven minute epic version of her late 80's come back smash "Coming Around Again/Itsy Bitsy Spider". One of those rare live recordings that is actually good, a gem of a Carly album.

Not a fan.......2007-01-25
I've never been a paticular fan of Charlie Daniels. I bought this CD to get a live version of "Still in Siagon". I was blown away! Incredible, old-style, Southern Rock. If you are a fan of live Lynyrd Skynrd (Sp?), Molly Hatchet, 38 Special, Outlaws, Blackfoot etc, then get this CD.
having a blast with Charlie and the gang.......2005-04-12
Hard driving, rockin' country music is what you get from start to finish in this excellent live album, with recordings culled from several concerts (in Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia) in 2000. Charlie and the band have so much energy and passion for their music, and for the message of freedom and patriotism that is in many of their songs, that their honesty and zeal alone is appealing; the musicianship is superb, and really shines in the instrumentals, "Sidewinder", and "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed", and Charlie gets to show his virtuosity with the fiddle in "The Devil Went Down to Georgia", which is a fantastic track, and a great finish for the CD.
Along with this CD we get a single, "This Ain't No Rag, it's a Flag", a song that "offended" some, but is appreciated by most of us who love this land and its flag.
Charlie wrote or co-wrote 12 of the total of 17 songs, among them two of my favorites, "Caballo Diablo" and "In America". The terrific band deserves mention along with Charlie who sings and plays guitar and fiddle: Taz DiGregorio sings and plays keyboards and organ, Charlie Heyward is on bass, Pat McDonald is on drums, and Bruce Brown, Chris Wormer and Mark "Sparky" Matejka all do vocals and guitar.
The sound is excellent for a live recording, and we get to hear Charlie introduce many of the songs, and the audience's enthusiastic reception.
Total playing time for the CD is 73'29, and for the single, 3'30.
What more can you ask for?.......2001-12-08
How can you go wrong with a band like the CDB? This is a great live album and it covers a lot of ground. Seeing the band live is a great experience, and they've caught that excitement in these sixteen songs. It's the next best thing.
Great CD!!!!!.......2001-12-01
(...) I was impressed with Mr. Daniels introduction to Simple Man. He talks about catching "flack" for writing the song. Before the song starts, he says, "I Don't Care." Way to go Charlie
The recording dates are listed on the inside cover flap.
Thank You and God Bless, Mr. Daniels..........2001-11-10
I have been fortunate enough to see Charlie Daniels Band at least once each year for the past five years. Four of the five years were at a country music festival in Ohio and in 2000 at The Volunteer Jam in Detroit. They never fail to deliver a great show and Mr. Daniels has established a position as one of my favorite musical artists of all time. Anyone know what show this album was recorded at? The disc sounds great and basically puts you there like it was at all of those shows. Curiously, though, Charlie usually does at least one gospel number as well as the Orange Blossom Special and neither appear on this disc. That would've made it five stars. Regardless, this is just what the doctor ordered. I will definitely keep trying to see them as long as they keep touring. Good memories! Keep music living!
