"performances light up the heavens ~ Crouch End Festival Chorus".......2005-06-25
This reissue originally released in 1997 was on the top American Billboard Charts, ranked number #13...dramantic in every respect "CINEMA CHORAL CLASSICS", featuring the CROUCH END FESTIVAL CHORUS and their leader David Temple (Choir Master), world renown with a strong reputation for hitting the mark everytime...for additional listening pleasure THE CITY OF PRAGUE PHILHARMONIC, conducted by Paul Bateman, Kenneth Alwyn and as always Nic Raine these gentleman are the icing on the cake...for additional listening pleasure we have the classical favorite "CARMINA BURANA"(1981-Carl Orff), the dark tale of Camelot...now that's just for openers.
Silva Screen Records takes us on a journey of adventure "CONAN:THE BARBARIAN"(1981-Basil Poledouris), with Arnold Schwarzenegger and resounding singers with brilliant orchestration...then we have two selections from "THE MISSION"(1986-Enno Morricone), beautiful choir blends emotion, enhanced by haunting themes and counter melodies..."THE LION IN WINTER"(1988-John Barry), a favorite among Barry fans, this arrangement and rendition has it all...next we travel with helmet in hand(with horns included) with "THE VIKINGS"(1959-Mario Nascimbene), if it's action you crave, then this Kirk Douglas epic is a real winner, but Nascimbene's score adds color and breaths life into this tale of the Viking God "Odin"...another remake leaps to the screen with "HENRY V"(1989-Patrick Doyle), one can only marvel at Kenneth Branagh's Shakespeare film, but the music from a solo to full choir gives you goose bumps...the CD is excellent, recorded in Dolby Surround sound is completely mesmerizing and outstanding...orchestration, every intstument, every voice, crystal clear...for all the "film-score-buffs", do not pass this one up...needs to be in your every growing collection (nuff said)...gotta love it!
Hats off to Kenneth Alwyn, Paul Bateman and Nic Raine conducting the world renown CITY OF PRAGUE PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA...plus James Fitzpatrick(album producer)...Reynold da silva(executive producer)...and a special thanks to David Temple(Choir Master) and our favorite-dynamic choir that made all of this possible...THE CROUCH END FESTIVAL CHORUS!

Frijid Pink - 'Earth Omen' (Repertoire).......2006-12-30
Originally released in 1973, this was the band's third lp and nearly as good as their previous two, their self-titled debut and 'Defrosted' (see my reviews of both). I've heard a few others say this record number three is boring, but I disagree with that. Still good psychedelia. Most notable tracks are the full-speed-ahead rocker "Sailor",title cut "Earth Omen","Lazy Day"(good guitar work)and "Rainbow Rider". Comes with two added bonus tracks. Alright!
Typical 70's cd........2005-05-16
Not horrible, but nothing like there first album. Almost completely different lineup. If you like a band such as sugarloaf you may like this one. Very similiar.
The Facts.......2002-08-08
This work was recorded at Eastern Sound in Toronto under the worst of creative conditions, produced by Vinnie Testa who's only claim to fame was supposedly being aquainted with Shadow Morton who produced the Fudge. The album was released on MGM Lion and followed the release of the single Lost Son which was a London Parrot single. Now the facts:Earth Omen,New Horizon and Lost Son were in truth composed as a trilogy by Jon Wearing who had been working with another Michigan artist and associate Dick Wagner after the demise of the Frost.Wagner went on to form Ursa Major and Wearing who had been working in the Detroit music scene since 1966 with the Tidalwaves and had a hit Farmer John signed with Pink with the agreement for the first work 20% of his writing would be distributed equally among the other members of the band who were totally lost and down and out. Testa and Wearing could never see eye to eye, the management had no idea what they were doing, IRS and legal issues and the entire project was a wash and Wearing left to form a very good R&B influenced rock band called Deluxe. Deluxe toured with Joe Walsh, James Cotton, Atlanta Rhythm Section, opened for Seger and many others.Dallas Hodge,Ray Craig,KimballLee,Greg Caulder and Wearing comprised the band that had been targeted by Epic to sign. Leo Fenn part of the Alice Cooper business organization and Wearing pal was the manager until heads got out of control in part do to Johnny Winter's medling and then John Sinclair became the manager and demise of this fine act. Hodge continues to work with Canned Heat overseas and Wearing still provides moments with the Detroit based Ghostband.Wearing attempted to provide some quality to Pink however was stiffled by the mis-management of Clyde Stevers and Marv Wilson. Enough for now, The Truth.
My favorite Frijid Pink recording.......2001-07-21
I am a big fan of this group and this is my favorite recording of theirs. Actually 2 original members were on this recording, Rick Stevers and Tom Harris, who was never credited on the first two albums. The title song "Earth Omen" was a timely song about pollution concerns and respect for the planet. "Lazy Day" is a wonderful song about being home with the folks you love. "Sailor" is also a great tune. It is a shame this album wasn't more commercially successful at the time it was released. The musicans on this CD were obviously very talented. It may be a bit of a departure for those we are big fans of the "Frijid Pink" and "Defrosted" albums, but it is surely a worthwhile effort.
These are the seventies ... pure!.......1999-02-24
Although not recorded by the original line up (only drummer Stevers remained on this one) it's a typical 70's record, with all there has to be. I especially like "Lazy Day" and "Mr. Blood" although the latter has a rather sudden end. I assume the lyrics are quite pretentious, but who cares as long as the music rocks! Cool stuff worth checking out!

Customer Reviews:
Forget the stupid title and pick this one up!.......2005-05-09
Looking at the title tracks, the program makes no sense. I mean does "The Sound Of Music" and "Star Wars" belong on the same disc? This is one of those slap it together compilations featuring archives from the DG, Phillips, Decca labels, or any combo of the three. What makes this attractive is the generally good(John Mauceri/Hollywood Bowl Orch.) performances of some things you might of missed out on. You know things that you don't want buy a complete soundtrack of. We get music from "The Omen" and "Dracula", both worth a listen. Theres the original Alex North, Fanfare from "2001" that was never used in the final cut of the film; one wonders how it would of been with his complete score rather than classics. I enjoyed "The March of the Kligons" and for once we get the glorious "Star Wars" Throne Room and Finale, rather than the overplayed Main Title. Cuts from "Altered States", "Body Heat", "The Day The Earth Stood Still" and yeah, "Cinema Paradiso are all worth having! So thank goodness for the DRUNK that put this all together, I guess he turned out to be a genius!
