Customer Reviews:
Great album...but get Razor & Tie instead.......2007-03-13
If you are a fan of these great early Partridge Family albums, then you owe it to yourself to buy the 1993 Razor & Tie versions instead. Why? Razor & Tie did not tamper with the sound quality, as a result, Razor & Tie discs sound just like the records you remember. I made the mistake of buying the re-masters thinking they would sound even greater; NOT!
I've heard both versions using top of the line monitor speakers, and these Buddha discs have too much bass added for their own good. They also sound flat, because too much noise reduction was used, thus taking away the sparkle which sounded so good on the Razor & Tie versions. You can still find these Partridge Family albums on Razor & Tie right here on Amazon.
The Partridge Family albums on Razor & Tie were the debut album, Up To Date, Sound Magazine, Shopping Bag and The Christmas album.
I LOVE BUBBLEGUM!!!.......2006-06-26
This is my favorite Partridge Family album. I play it over and over again. Every song on it is so well crafted (even the ones without David Cassidy are wonderful too) that you can't help but singing. God, that sounds so damn corny, but what can I do? I can never get enough of bubblegum music (or baroque pop, as I like to call it). Singing My Song (with its great chorus), I Can Feel Your Heartbeat (with a fantastic rhythm guitar track), and the powerful Point Me in the Direction of Albequerque are highlights. I never really cared for the TV show, but I adore the music....
Still a star.......2006-02-25
I am gradually re-collecting all the Partridge Family albums, the sound is just as appealing as 30 years ago and David Cassidy's voice still makes me go weak at the knees. This is not one of the best albums but has a number of classic tracks and is a must for all fans.
So nice..........2006-02-08
I heard all these songs when they first came out from my sister's record player in the next room. Didn't think much of 'em.
Fast forward 30 years; I now have a master's degree in music. Something makes me buy this CD. And you know what? These are GREAT SONGS! (Of course, let's recognize that they were written by some of the top songwriters of the day, and sung and performed by top studio people, including the Love Generation.)
But it's a shame, in a way, that these songs don't reach a wider audience simply because people think that if it's a Partridge Family song, it's got to be stupid. No way. These are great examples of the songwriter's craft.
I adore Only a Moment Ago (a poignant story about the end of the 1960s); I'm on the Road (tremendous cruising tune); and To Be Lovers (an absolutely stunning background vocal arrangement). But the best for me is I Really Want to Know You; it has a sweet, sweet melody and performance, with some of the most romantic lyrics I've ever heard: "I want to look behind the mirror of your eyes... and see the secret world your words disguise... the birthplace of your sighs."
wish the songs were longer.......2005-12-22
I enjoyed Sound Magazine more, maybe because I owned it as a kid. I remember hearing many of these songs on the TV show and like the ones that are fast paced. My favorite is I Can Feel Your Heartbeat but I wish it were longer! Brand New Me, Bandala, and Somebody Wants to Love You are all good to dance to (or dust the furniture) and I go around with Singing My Song stuck in my head all day after hearing it. I don't like I Really Want to Know You, Only a Moment Ago and To Be Lovers; all seem sappy to me. I realize the show was supposed to sound like a family singing and didn't start out to be a vehicle for David Cassidy but when I hear a song without his voice I am picturing the family and thinking, now who is this supposed to be singing? The redhaired kid? It sounds like a small male chorus; must be the redhaired kid AND the little kid on the drums. The CD is too short, but still gets 4 stars as I enjoy the fast songs so much.

Stevie Ray Vaughan died in a helicopter crash on August 27, 1990, just as the first single from this CD, the beautiful Motown/soul-inspired workout "Tick Tock," was about to climb the charts and make the blues-rock hero an international superstar. Thankfully, he was able to make this delightful and laid-back album with his brother. For Jimmie and Stevie Ray, it was a kind of spiritual reunion. Jimmie had followed Stevie down the path to sobriety. These New York City sessions were a spirited celebration intended to mark the beginning of their musical partnership. While some tunes sound like the result of mere jamming, "Telephone Song" is one of Stevie's best numbers: an elegant blues shout with screaming guitar breaks. And Jimmie's B-3 organ-like textures on steel guitar astound. --Ted Drozdowski
Customer Reviews:
Not Your Typical SRV .......2007-07-12
As a SRV fan, I was a bit disappointed with this CD, partly because I expected to hear a little more of his incendiary guitar playing and soulful vocals. While it's apparent the Vaughan Brothers are having fun collaborating on songs that range in style from Texas Swing, R&B, Country (and yes, even a little Funk), I can't help but feel that SRV underplayed in this one.
I did love the prophetic and beautiful "Tick-Tock" and the R&B-infused "Telephone Song," two songs that give you a glimpse of what might have been in SRV's musical future. In addition, Jimmie and Stevie's work on the instrumental D/FW (a hometown tribute) is exceptional and is a great "car tune."
While I don't regret purchasing this CD--the aforementioned songs are well worth the price of admission--I was a bit surprised by the corny voiceovers and sound effects sprinkled throughout. Nevertheless, if you love SRV and Jimmie, you will forgive them and add this to your collection.
Brothers Rock the House.......2007-05-26
It doesn't get any better than Jimmie & Stevie Ray Vaughn on the same cd. Both, Austin, Texas legends performing their unique brand of blues, rock music. A fine tribute to the Vaughn brothers. Excellent choice.
Duet CD A Sad But Pleasant End to Stevie's Career.......2007-04-06
It still hurts to listen to some music. Hurts because you know that the person that made it is gone, won't make any more music on this side of the veil, and definitely left too soon.
Stevie Ray Vaughan was just beginning to garner the widespread
acclaim that he so richly deserved before his death in a helicopter crash in 1990. Family Style was his last studio release before his death, and he probably would have been pleased that on his last release that he was joined by his brother Jimmie Ray, at the time lead guitarist for the Fabulous Thunderbirds.
From Hard To Be to Baboom/Mama Said, this is just a fun, whimsical record that allows the brothers to play and have fun without taking too much too seriously, except for Tick Tock, the only serious song on the record and a very good message song.
Family Style is a great CD and a poignant reminder of talent lost to us much too soon.
FAMILY STYLE - VAUGHAN BROTHERS.......2006-07-06
This is one of the last of Stevie Ray Vaughan's' albums. It is very fitting that he made it a family affair. This album is exceptional and would be a great addition to anyone's collection.
The Brothers At Their Best.......2004-05-09
Family Style is perhaps Stevie Ray Vaughan's last record before his tragic death in 1990. I love Family Style for so many reason's mainly due to Stevie Ray Vaughan who was expanding his guitar vocabulary further than he had the previous year. Jimmie Vaughan was also at the peek of his career both of the brothers were a good mix between texas blues. I think for the most part the musicians were all different it added a new flavor to Stevie Ray's style. My very favorite song is Long Way From Home, and Brothers. Family Style would reach 7 on the charts becoming Stevie Ray Vaughan's most succesful album. I personally think this is a must have album for any die hard fans of the guitar. Buy this!

Trout Fishing in America has wide appeal.......2007-04-12
After hearing Trout Fishing in America at a concert in my home town, I decided to buy a CD for my husband and me and one for my 7-year-old granddaughter. When we got together, we played (her) "Big Trouble" and (our) "My Best Day". I don't know who enjoyed it more--the children, the parents, or the grandparents. My granddaughter was soon singing along with "When I Was a Dinosaur" and other favorites on the CD which is not surprising when you consider how many times she listened to it during the weekend. Ezra Idlet and Keith Grimwood are wonderful musicians, clever song-writers, and just all-around great entertainers. Here's to many more years of their audience-pleasing CD's and personal appearances.
Big Trouble is great.......2006-08-09
My favorite is still Family Party, but that's probably because I've had it for years--I bought it even before my son was born. We enjoy Big Trouble, we just have to listen to it more often to really get to know the songs. We especially like the title song--that poor kid, in such big trouble because the monsters have wrecked his house!
Great, Upbeat Music for the whole Family!.......2006-07-02
I used to work at a toy store and believe me we had to play some really bad music, but when this cd was on, the time just flew by. Now I listen to this music with my son. It is really upbeat and is something I would recommend when you need to pass the time like when you're in the car or cleaning up. The songs are creative, not the same old sing alongs you get on all the other kids' music cds.
this is so funny!.......2006-03-10
I HAVE THREE CHILDREN WHEN I PUT THIS CD ON WE LAUGH AND IT'S EVEN FUN FOR ADULTS! I THREW HER OUT THE WINDOW! MY SON WHO WE GOT THIS FOR HIS BIRTHDAY LOVED HEARING THIS ON HIS SCHOOL BUS!HE TOLD ME THAT HE WANTED THIS FOR HIS BIRTHDAY.WELL THANK GOODNESS AMAZON HAD IT AND FOR CHEAP! I NEVER KNEW THAT ORDERING COULD BE SO FUN AND FAST!
The Reason I rarely buy stupid popular character kids music.......2006-01-07
Popular fad kids music willl never be able to compare to the perfection that is Trout fishing in America. Fresh, funny, lively addictive music the whole family will want to listen to together.
I was introduced to Trout fisning in America long before I had kids. My husband had 2 CDs fromhis college days.
Every single son on this tape is memerable. YOu will find yourself singing, or trying to sing along in the case of Proper Cup of Coffee!
There are way too many laugh out loud lyrics, the music is contagious and makes you want to move.
Lastly Lullaby is actually a sweet beautiful piece.
NOt only are they fun songs but these 2 men have great voices!

The Sexiest Soundtrack of 2003 and 2004!.......2006-07-30
Great score, for it has the French charm score in it. The score and the music makes you think of France and it makes you wonder how it is like (if you have never been there) and I haven't been to France, but this soundtrack boosted my idea of wanting to go to France. Richard Robbins made a clear and focused score that reflects Paris, France. This is great music to listen to if you're just strolling the cobblestone streets of a village and simply to just relax to. This is recommended!

Okay, I have a cd of French music and it has the song that they play in the trailer! I didn't know how to respond to the question so hopefully you'll find it here. The cd is from Williams-Sonoma and is called La Mer. Its track number nine titled C'est Magnifique. And if you liked this soundtrack it's probably worthwhile to buy this cd! Hope its still available and that this helped, oh, if not, the song is by L'Accordéoniste if that helps!

Customer Reviews:
move over, elmo.......2007-04-22
I was first introduced to this CD at storytime in the library. The songs are so mellow and refreshing. I also recommend 'catch the moon' by Lisa Loeb and Elizabeth Mitchell. Until we got wiggleworms, this is the only kids/parents CD that I could tolerate. My mother-in-law bought an Elmo CD for my son, and I want to poke something sharp in my eye 2 minutes into listening to it. This CD, however, is so much fun to sing along with and easy to play over and over again. Thanks, wiggleworms!
A very good substitute for the class.......2005-07-09
My son and I attended Wiggleworms from when he was 6 months to 1 year old. These songs by the Old Town teachers are terrific for kids - my son who is now 18 months loves the energy and folkiness of these songs! It's almost as if we were still there in Old Town enjoying Lisa D. live. This is a must have CD - especially for the Old Town fun twist on Itsy Bitsy Spider and Old MacDonald. Music is now one of the only things that will calm my toddler during one of the infamous toddler meltdowns - in other words this is highly recommended!
great for any age!.......2005-01-02
we have a 7 week old and we found out it's not too early to start singing these songs to him. my husband and i have a blast listening and singing along. we like the fact that they have a couple of different versions in spanish and french on the cd! we wish there was more for the little wiggleworms!
THE BEST!.......2004-10-26
We saw the other reviews, and thought it could be pretty good. we were wrong, IT'S GREAT. We listen to it with our 2 year old everyday. He's learned a lot of the words in the songs and created his own dances to some. The music is not overly syrupy like a lot of music for toddlers. We love the acoustic guitars. We just ahve one question- when are they going to make another one???!!!???
Most Tolerable Kid's CD Available.......2003-11-22
An instant hit for both the parents and the child in our household. I'll be giving this to all my friends for Christmas. The songs actually make me want to participate in song with my child. Good for the inner child!

Wonderful, Simply Marvelous Kelly.......2003-11-26
This is a CD that I feel will be worth playing for more Christmases to come. Every song is touching and very moving. The soul stirring Silent Night all the way to Ave Maria. Wonderful Kelly keep singing and you will always get my money.
3 1/2 stars, one of the better Xmas albums.......2002-07-05
Kelly Price, with this Christmas album, showed once again that she can sing over any track given to her. Unfortunately, the same CANNOT be said for her guest stars. Though Mary Mary and Winona Judd turn in great performances on "Mary's Song" and "In Love At Christmas" respectively, her family on the title track show that they aren't the best singers in the world. This is especially true when Kelly's kids sing on "If I Lose Christmas", which made me lose my appetite. A rule of thumb: If your kids can't really sing, don't put them on the album!
But I still can't front on the great performances that Kelly turns in, and as with most R&B singers, she sounds better singing gospel like on "Christmas Medley", "Go Tell It on the Mountain" and "Ave Maria". If you love Kelly's voice and can't stand her singing about people not accepting her weight size or about heartache, then this album is a good escape from her usual fare.
What a disapointment!.......2002-03-11
Clearly the worse she has ever came out with! Only one good song on entire CD....
Disappointing.......2001-12-30
Let me start by saying that I love Kelly Price's voice and music. Unfortunately, this CD was full of one lackluster performance after another. I'm sure that she enjoyed putting these works together. The CD lacks the professional polish that it should have, however. The thing that really put it over the top as a CD that I will not keep was her performance of "Ave Maria". I simply cannot overlook the repeated and overtly mispronounced words in the song. I also don't feel that there are many songs on the CD that use all of the great qualities of her voice to it's best advantage. If you're a big Kelly Price fan, buy it used and keep it on the shelf.
Kelly Price --One Family.......2001-12-19
This was the first time that I purchased a Kelly Price CD. Kelly has a lovely voice and the CD is out of this world. I listen to it 8 hrs a day. A lot of the Xmas songs bring about real life meaning . Kelly is truly a blessing to the music industry. Keep of the good work.

I don't need another compilation.......2002-10-08
While I don't have anything bad to say about Roy himself, I do have qualms with the second complilation/"greatest hits" album that Phil & Brent have released.
Sure, I bought the album. No question! And the 4 new tracks? Loved 'em! But the rest? Why? A few of them were even from the most recent "Roy vs. Yankees" album. Now, I do understand the premise of the "family album" theme, grouping calls into categories based on their subject. Fine. But I just really hate compilation albums. It all seems so regurgutated; it's the same reason I turn off the Simpsons when a clip show comes on. And if anyone ever turns to the Lifetime channel and sees "The Golden Girls" (my girlfriend watches it constantly, so I have no choice), you'll know that every other friggin' episode has the girls sitting around their kitchen table reminiscing about previous episodes. What it smacks of is laziness. No new material? Just package up the old stuff and slap a new label on it. I love Roy, and the 4 new tracks were great, but come on...give us some new material here. I've heard all those other tracks before!
dissapointing overall.......2002-08-09
this "new" rdm disc is merely a collection of past calls with four new episodes tacked on for good measure. unfortunately the new calls do NOT measure up. as a long time fan i must say that the new material lacks the punch and depth that the OLD calls on the disc demonstrate so well. this is basically "greatest fits pt. 2" with a clever but distracting title. this is NOT a NEW album with all new material, which up until i read the titles i thought it was. this disc does include some of the funniest calls ever and would be a prime place for a new fan to start. let's just hope the four new calls are not indicative of the future roy d. mercer.

If you loved the hit TV show The Osbournes, you'll absolutely eat up this unorthodox soundtrack album, which sucks you right back into this 2002 version of The Beverly Hillbillies, with snippets of the best bons mots from the show-and minus all those annoying bleeps! It's instantly clear that the Osbournes' taste in music is much better than their taste in furniture. But why be surprised, as Sharon Osbourne, wife and manager of the timeless metallurgist, has been the intelligence behind all the Ozzfests, one of the few moneymaking tour packages in recent memory. She has certainly done her homework once again, offering sensational tracks by snarling Chicago-based trio Chevelle and the equally heavy Dillusion Mirror Image (clear inheritors of Ozzy's thorny crown). There is also a rousing cover of Black Sabbath's "Snowblind" by Armenian rockers System of a Down. This album isn't all about head banging; also included is a live track from third wave Britpoppers Starsailor, who'd be ostracized if they even came within spitting distance of the second stage at Ozzfest. And there's also Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight," a song Ozzy used to play while Sharon would get ready for a night out, and the Kinks' "You Really Got Me," a tune that turned the young Ozzmeister on to rock & roll. Ozzy also turns down the din on his own contributions with the John Lennon-esque "Dreamer" and the lush and revelatory power ballad "Mamma I'm Coming Home." He thankfully gets things moving with his signature thrash anthem "Crazy Train," which is also reprised by his former next-door neighbor, God Squad balladeer Pat Boone. The surprising standout is daughter Kelly's full-throated version of Madonna's recalcitrant 1986 hit "Papa Don't Preach." Thankfully the impish, fuchsia-tressed teen inherited her father's genes, belting out the rebellious hit with a subversive defiance and roguish edge. Produced by brother Jack and with Ozzfest alums Incubus playing on the track, this cut rocks much harder than the original. --Jaan Uhelszki

It has its moments . . . 'nuff said........2006-06-22
First off - where is the song "Paranoid?" I noticed other reviews indicating thatsong is absent from this CD.
We've got a few 70's gems here. The Eric Clapton and John Lennon tracks are must have's from that era. And "Drive", a ballad recorded by the CARS is one that anyone who grew in the 80's knows.
PAT BOONE'S version of "Crazy Train" is interesting - and the theme for "The Osbourne's" reality show as you know. If you've watched the show, you already know if you'd like that son or not.
In between all the songs are snippets from the show - in their uncensored form. This album is therefore not for children or sensitive listeners.
Ozzy's version of "Crazy Train" is the "new" version with the Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake rhythm section re-recorded. Ugh - go get the '95 release of Blizzard Of Ozz CD with the blue borders for that song.
This album is a novelty for fans of the Osbournes - and another cash grab for Ozzy and Sharon. Get it used for the Pat Boone song song - the rest of it is readily available on the web and other sources.
I love this album!!!.......2003-02-23
This album is so f*@%ing awesome as Ozzy might say!! I think thst this is one of the best albums I've picked up in long time!! It has great music and I love the uncensored dialog from the show between the songs, it's so funny!!! My Favorite songs are:
Pat Boone Crazy Train-I think his version of this song is outstanding!
Ozzy Osbourne Dreamer-I like this ballad he does I think he has a great voice on this song and I would have to agree that it sounds sort of like a John Lennon song, who the song is a tribute to!!
Kelly Osbourne Papa Don't Preach-I think this version of this song is much better than the original and she has a great voice too!!
The Kinks You Really Got Me-It's a classic what more can you say!!
John Lennon Imagine-I love this song by him, I think it's his best!!
The Cars Drive-Great song, love the melody!!
Eric clapton Wounderful Tonight-One his best songs!!
Ozzy Osbourne Mama, I'm Coming Home-Another great ballad by the Ozzman, love the melody alot in this one!!
Ozzy Osbourne Crazy Train-Of course who could forget the original version of this song by the master himself, his best song I think!!
Chevelle Family System-I think they added this because this song represents their family, but that's just my guess!!
I would highly recommend this for Osbourne fans everywhere you will enjoy it very much!!!
Paranoid???.......2002-10-05
Hey, my copy doesn't include Paranoid either. What the hell ?????
Cheers,
Philippe
Commercial as heck, but has some novelty value.......2002-09-27
You wonder what the point of this CD is, first this, then Ozzy's BUDOKAN CD, is the guy just after more money? Don't get me wrong, I loved the show but what makes the "soundtrack" worth buying are the dialogue clips in between tracks. My favourite is Ozzy and Sharon discussing their experiences with viagra. I nearly wet myself laughing, my Mum thought it was sick; but then again, she would. Also hilarious is Ozzy going mental after his dogs urinate on his carpet. Most of the music is just filler, Pat Boone's version of CRAZY TRAIN is laughable, Ozzy's mediocre song DREAMER is included as is The Cars DRIVE which I don't like. However there is some good stuff: SOAD's awesome cover of Sabbath's SNOWBLIND as well as the obligatory Ozzy tracks MAMA I'M COMING HOME, and (of course) CRAZY TRAIN which is a vast improvement on Pat Boone's version. What next? Harry Connick Jr covering TOMORROW'S DREAM? God help us.
This album is awesome!.......2002-09-23
It doesn't matter if you hate the show, you'll still like this album! I love the show and bought the album the first day it was out and I love it. My friends who don't even like the show are loving this album! It's got a great variety of music ranging from Ozzy to Pat Boone, and Kelly to John Lennon. This CD has been in my stereo 24/7 and I absolutely love it. Definitely one of the best CDs I own, and by far the best soundtrack. I recommend this to everyone! :)

KING OF MODERN ROCK-A-BILLY.......2001-04-03
ROBERT GORDON SOUNDS BETTER (I THINK) THAN MOST ORIGINAL ROCK-A-BILLY ARTISTS. THIS CD IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE. I DON'T KNOW HOW THE BEAR FAMILY GOT THEIR HANDS ON IT, BUT GOD BLESS THEM. THIS CD ALONG WITH THE PREVIOUS THREE FROM BEAR FAMILY WILL GIVE YOU EVERYTHING HE EVER RECORDED. IF YOU LIKE OLD OR NEW ROCK-A-BILLY THEN YOU DEFINITELY HAVE TO OWN ALL FOUR VOLUMES.

Christmas Fun from Damian and Family.......2003-12-07
This album makes me wish I were from a big family. Of course, not all large clans have the talent and connections that this group does: this is a really FUN album, featuring lots of great performances, not only by family members, but also by some of the top session musicians around, guys that have played with Chicago, the Stones, etc. As you would expect, the horn parts are great (very Chicago-esque), but so are the strings (especially the cello), and there's an amazing vocal duet by a couple of Michael's nieces who sound like a female version of Simon and Garfunkel. The thing I like best is that the there's a lot of variety in the production, the classics sound great, and the originals are nice too, like the excellent "Christmas Time Without You", and one which sounds like it could have been a newly discovered track from a "Christmas with Elvis" session. Pretty cool stuff.
