Customer Reviews:
Guitar Gods Playing the Blues.......2007-07-10
The previous reviewer said it all. The line up of talent got my attention immediately when I opened the case up. I found this "jewel" of a CD in a used CD store. One man's stupidity of letting this one go, was a diamond treasure found in the rough for me. Every song is played with guitar talent that just grabs you with all their soul and passion. Paul Rodgers matches the guitar talent with his own brand of raw blues power.
One thing the previous reviewer left off were some of my favorites, like the great Neal Schon (buy any of his solo stuff, ie Pirana Blues) Richie Sambora, and Steve Miller (did you mention Buddy Guy?) The Hammond organ is led by David Paich, Paul Shaffer, and there is some outstanding harmonica riffs in several songs.
My advice is buy this CD. The talent matches the music...Blues just the way it was meant to be played.

Best of the Best of the Best of the Blues.......2004-06-01
Even though fewer than half the songs on the CD are Muddy Waters tunes, they are all done so well Paul Rodgers is to be forgiven for naming this CD after Muddy and calling it a tribute album. I could go off into mounds of hyperbole about how fantastic the blues guitar on this CD is, but it wouldn't do it justice. Jeff Beck rips his way through 3 or 4 of the tracks, and that right there is enough reason to buy this CD. You also get the likes of David Gilmour, Trevor Rabin, Bryan May, Slash, and yes, Jeff Beck, stretching out and having the time of their lives just playing the juiciest blues guitar licks this side of the swamp. The only one missing is Rick Derringer, but you can't have everything. (Where would you put it?) You can practically hear them grinning ear-to-ear with the delight of being able to play like this. Don't let those rock 'n roll names fool you--this is definitely an electric BLUES album. The solos are so tasty, you don't need to eat. This CD has been in my changer for literally MONTHS. That is saying something. Paul Rodgers' vocals are right on target throughout, and his original title track is an instant blues classic. The musicianship, the song choice, the solos, the production, mixing, everything about this CD just absolutely ROCKS. I gave it five stars--I'd give it ten if the software could handle it.
Did I mention Jeff Beck? GOD that guitar smokes

Blues done right.......2006-06-18
Man I like blues that make your hair stand on edge and Beck is the undisputed ruler of the guitar. He blows everybody away.
This cd is extremely good for hard rock and blues fans alike it's a balls- blowing blues album. I have the original cd at a cutout price and love it. Rodgers is good too and I am sure glad he didn't invite Clapton 'cause he would have been torn to shreds by Beck. Although he should have invited Johhny Winter,Leslie West and Trower to participate. Oh well, it's good anyhow.
I would give this one a pass.......2004-09-04
My humble opinion but I can't get past the plodding drums on this disc, it is too bad because there is some great guitar work on here with Jeff Beck being the standout. Instead of swinging, the drums seem to bog it down.
Muddy Water Blues.......2004-07-27
Excellent remake of classic blues songs with the vocals provided by Paul Rodgers who has been called "the best rock and blues singer" by Rod Stewart. The guitar work is also strong with work by Slash, Steve Miller, and Jeff Beck. An alltogether great collection.
Jeff Beck and David Gilmour...'nuff said??.......2003-02-14
This 1993 tribute to Muddy Waters concocted by Paul Rodgers does more than just honor the legacy of one of our founding fathers of American music - it also manages to kick up a whole boatload of fun. Teaming up the voice of Bad Company with an impressive lineup of axe wielders sure was a good idea! This record rocks and swaggers through most of it's 65:52 running time. However, blues purists beware: This is NOT a collection of note-for-note covers of some of Muddy's greatest tunes. And therein lies the beauty. Instead of a sterile reading of old blues classics, the boys on this disk inject their own styles and personalities into each song, sometimes with stunning results. Jeff Beck takes top honors here with his three incredible cuts, bending, twisting and stretching these classics as only he can. David Gilmour takes a very close second with a searing version of the slow blues, Standing Around Crying. Here's how things measure up:
Muddy Water Blues acoustic (Buddy Guy) - Buddy Guy fans might be a bit disappointed due to Buddy's low key approach. Known for his manic and dynamic playing, this mostly acoustic tune is just lightly adorned with Guy's very bare-boned electric tone. There's no mistaking that scattered phrasing of his, but as you're waiting for things to take off, the song ends.
Louisiana Blues (Trevor Rabin) - This is full on rock with Rabin's heavily processed sound and finger taps making it quite clear that this is NOT going to be a blues album.
I Can't Be Satisfied (Brian Setzer) - Great rockabilly style intro (and outro) as only Brian can deliver. The solo is full of his trademark Gretsch bar dips and slippery single note lines. Good stuff.
Rollin' Stone (Jeff Beck) - Rodger's impassioned voice mixing with Jeff's unbelievable guitar playing is just a jaw dropping delight. It leaves you wondering "how the heck did he do that??". Because this is Jeff Beck, stupid.
Good Morning Little School Girl Part I (Jeff Beck) - After these sessions Beck remarked how much it reminded him of his Truth days with Rod Stewart. I can definitely see why Jeff wanted to do the whole album! His enthusiasm jumps from your speakers.
I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man (Steve Miller) - My apologies to Steve Miller fans out there, but this cut is rather luke warm. Jimmie Woods' harmonica seems more featured than Steve's playing.
She's Alright (Trevor Rabin) - Another rocker very much in the same vein as Rabin's last cut. Certainly energetic and enthusiastic (Is there a pedal this guy DOESN'T own??).
Standing Around Crying (David Gilmour) - Scorching slow blues by the man in Pink. A stratocaster with a nice touch of gain and some delay makes for a raw and nasty tone...at least in Gilmour's hands. Squealing bends, singing vibrato, subtle feedback....noone makes a guitar cry like David Gilmour.
The Hunter (Slash) - This is a great rocking vehicle for Slash's down-n-dirty guitar style. He and Rodgers were clearly having a blast.
She Moves Me (Gary Moore) - There isn't a Les Paul tone on earth like Gary Moore's. I swear that guitar was made just for him. This cut is just a tiny taste of what can be found on Moore's Still Got The Blues, After Hours, or the ultimate tribute album Blues For Greeny.
I'm Ready (Brian May) - A bouncy tune that features some of Brian's wall-of-guitars sound as well as Jimmie Woods' harmonica. Unfortunately just a mediocre cut.
I Just Want To Make Love To You (Jeff Beck) - Holy Bajeezus this guy has tone. This is the heaviest version of this tune I've ever heard. No other even comes close.
Born Under A Bad Sign (Neal Schon) - Another heavily processed guitar sound that fits this updated version well. Schon chops his way through the solo nicely.
Good Morning Little School Girl Part II (Richie Sambora) - He may not be Jeff Beck but he can rock. Great tone and a great energetic reading of this tune.
Muddy Water Blues electric (Neal Schon) - Basically the opening song extended with Schon soloing this time.
If you're considering this CD, it's important to understand what kind of tribute album this is. I think Paul's intent was to show Muddy's influence by featuring his music in more contemporary settings. Rockers and guitar geeks (such as myself) will love this, while blues purists will cut their own throats with the disk. This is a fun album and should be taken in that spirit.
a great collection of blues covers.......2002-11-07
When it comes to rock vocalists, there aren't many that can top Paul Rodgers. His voice is one of the most recognizable around, and despite the number of years he's been in the business, he still sounds great. Back in 1993, he released a collection of blues covers, entitled Muddy Water Blues, featuring an all-star cast of rock and blues guitarists. David Gilmour, Buddy Guy and several others all appeared on various cuts. The title track went on to earn Rodgers a Grammy nomination.
Unfortunately, the CD's original label, Victory Records, went belly-up shortly after its release and the CD was sadly out of print for years. Finally, after all these years, this stellar disc is available once again. These songs are some of the best known blues classic around. "Hoochie Coochie Man" (featuring Steve Miller), "Born Under a Bad Sign" (featuring Neal Schon), and "I Just Want to Make Love to You" (featuring Jeff Beck) are just a few of the tracks you'll find here. Whether you're a Rodgers fan, or you just like good rock and blues, this CD is a must-have addition to your collection. There's not a bad track in the bunch.

Hard Rocking Blues!.......2002-08-03
The sound of this CD is a little reminiscent of Gov't Mule both in the vocals of John Jaworowicz and in the guitar solo's. The Co-Op itself features a host of guests including, Gov't Mule's Warren Haynes on guitar, Jimmy Nalls and Jack Pearson both from the Gregg Allman Band on guitar, Willie Howse from the Greg Allman band on harp, Willie Dixon's drummer, Chucki Bruke and Billy Earheart from the Amazing Rhythm Aces on organ. All of the songs on the CD, except Willie Dixon's "Back Door Man", were written or cowritten by Jaworowicz. Unfortunately, Jaworowitcz passed away shortly after the CD was released and Jimmy Nalls is currently battling Parkinson's disease. Therefore, a follow up CD reuniting this talent will not occur. Overall, the songs represented here are good rockin' blues from the land of Muscle Shoals. Highlights are "Muddy Water Fever" and "Shake You Down". No slow dancing allowed.

Bluz Man (Trope Records 995014), only Big Sam's second solo recording in a musical career that stretches back almost half a century, is a compact disc crying for national recognition. It is Taylor's very good fortune to have included in his crisp and proficient backing band an incredibly versatile solo instrumentalist, the classically-trained electric violinist Heather Hardy. She sensitively rips, at times quite effectively recalling both David LaFlamme and Papa John Creach. This 10-cut, 58-minute recording is all Taylor-made material, presenting to great effect his superb soul/blues vocals and gritty, paper-cut guitar leads. Hey, big labels, I'll loan you the pocket-change. A blues man in Tucson is worthy of your call.

Tribute to Muddy Waters.
Customer Reviews:
one of the great vocalists of our time.......2001-10-31
I have owned this cd for some time and have never tired of
listening to it.Mr Rodgers is in fine form throughout and his backing band just rocks.Add to that some of the finest rock guitarists in the world today showing their blues roots and you have a winning tribute to one of the blues greats. My fav track would have to be"born under a bad sign" with Neal Schon.I play in a band myself and have often played this cd between sets and have never failed to get someone come up and say "this is fantastic....who is this band?"...and yet another person is introduced to the blues, what more could you want?
As Good as it Gets!.......2001-04-27
Could well be one of the best albums,(sorry, showing my age!),that I have ever heard. Every musician in the right place at the right time.
zero stars for this one.......2001-04-04
I am a big Muddy Waters fan and this one completely missed the mark.
I love a lot of the guitarists on this disc but only the Jeff Beck stuff kind of works.
The drumming just out and out stinks, no swing whatsoever.
I would order up "Hard Again" or one of the Chess compilations and plug into the real deal.
Rodgers Is Back.......2000-11-02
While not necessarily a great guide to the music of Paul Rodgers, this album brings the master storming back with a collection of great blues songs. The star-studded guest list makes this a must-have album for any blues or Paul Rodgers fan. Listen in particular to the tearing rendition of "I Just Wanna Make Love To You", with Paul's voice beautifully complimented by Jeff Beck's screaming guitar. The bonus CD is a definite bonus, with new recordings of three Free and three Bad Company standards. Listen with open ears if you are a Free or Bad Company fan, you will be surprised!!
Can't Get Enough !.......2000-08-10
If your a Blues fan and appreciate the distinctive voice of Paul Rodgers then you are bound to enjoy this album.
Whilst not producing the depth of feeling that a Muddy Waters original might, one cannot but appreciate listening to a great voice singing great songs backed by the best guitarists around.
If the only thing this album does is to introduce a wider audience of guitar fans to the brilliance of Muddy Waters blues classics, then the making of the album was time well spent!!
