One suspects that Paul Simon cringes a bit when he listens to Simon & Garfunkel's 1966 breakthrough release. Lines from "I Am a Rock" ("For a rock feels no pain / And an island never cries") and the title track ("Fools, said I, you do not know / Silence like a cancer grows") are the essence of sophomoric poetry. And who but a couple of self-serious young men would sequence the suicide odes "Richard Cory" and "A Most Peculiar Man" back to back? That said, every callow couplet found here is counterbalanced by words that are disarmingly guileless. The unabashed romanticism of "Kathy's Song" is truly poignant; it ranks with "For Emily" and "The Only Living Boy in New York" among the duo's most resplendent performances. "April Come She Will" has a similar innocent appeal, while the title track, despite its overwrought moments and Tom Wilson's tacked-on production, is a folk-rock landmark. It's not hard to find fault with The Sounds of Silence, but it's easier still to bask in its inchoate splendor. (The 2001 reissue adds the bonus track "The Blues Run the Game" plus three unreleased 1970 demos.) --Steven Stolder

Richard Cory.......2007-07-18
ts it, if it doesnt work, thats as good as it gets.I rated it in stars, I entered a title for the review, and I typed a review. So whats this OOPS???? I hate when this happens.
The Pinnacle of Folk Pop/Rock.......2007-05-09
This album lacked the self-aggrandazing bombast of 'Bridge Over Trouble Water' (which I hold was a little too comfortable with its brilliance, although with a touch more humility than the Beatles Sgt. Pepper), but more importantly, I don't see it as a rawer sketch of Bridge Over Troubled Water of the work Simon and Garfunkel produced in between, but I believe this IS their definitive statement, their magnum opus. What I like most is Simon's atatention to melody and music AS well as the lyrics. It did not revel in its own lyrical cleverness like Dylan, yet the lyric messages were poignant and well developed and despite the simplicity never lacked thematic depth. So redolent of the times, this was a coherently brilliantly album that shoots through the mush of drab 'folk rock' clones like a flashlight in the dark.
Perfect!.......2007-01-15
This is an absolutely perfect CD. You cant help but envision scenes from the "Graduate" while listening to it!
Don't you know?.......2007-01-14
This is a classic. S&G influenced everyone. If you like rock music, and don't have this album, and Bridge over Troubled Waters and Bookends, you should buy them. Now.
Simply a work of brilliance.......2007-01-09
This was the first S&G album I ever heard and I think it's probably their best work. Simon's lyrics have rarely been more crisp, and the haunting refrain of loneliness touches every song on this album. The bonus tracks are largely filler compared with the rest of the album, but this is quintessential folk rock at its apex.

From yoga instructor.......2007-04-05
I use this CD to teach a high school yoga class. It is very soothing and relaxing. When listening to it, I feel that I am surrounded by nature. Even my high school students love it. I also use another CD by Marina and love it just as much.
Relaxing.......2007-02-05
I love this CD for reading and falling asleep. Actually I like all of her music and own about 7-8 CD's.
feminine serenity.......2006-03-21
this is a wonderfully relaxing CD of music! I kind of relate it to a feminine sound version of Carlos Naki music. I use it in my complementary care practice and the clients love it! It adds to the atmosphere of calm, soothing, relaxing energy!
Silence Falling On My Storm.......2005-09-06
I listen to Marina Raye's Snow Falling on Silence every day during my commute to and from work. The soothing energy of this music both relaxes as well as energizes me. It is as if the peaceful, blissful energy of this music speaks to my very soul. This CD is one I won't be without. It is more than simply music, it is a healing touch.

Product Description
These are REAL intrauterine audio recordings, using a patent-pending process to match EXACTLY what the baby hears inside the womb. Combined with a unique low-frequency ambient audiotrack, the Baby Sleep System is THE MOST EFFECTIVE AUDIO CD YOU WILL FIND for getting your newborn, infant, baby or toddler to sleep FAST! Hear what the leading experts have to say: Dr. Harvey Karp, M.D. (popular pediatrician and author) suggests that many babies cry because they miss the womb. Elizabeth Pantley (author/parent educator) says, "Once your baby is familiar with his calming noise/music, you can use it to help your baby fall back to sleep when he wakes up in the middle of the night. Simply sooth him by playing the music (very quietly) during the calming and falling-asleep time. If he wakes and cries, repeat this process."
Customer Reviews:
Life Saver!.......2007-06-26
I set this on replay in the CD player and my 7 month old finally sleeps through the night... and so do my husband and I :)
Very soothing, but..........2006-12-19
I am not sure if this product is more for me or for my son. It is very soothing and relaxing, but it is no miracle cd. If your baby is in the throes of a fit, this is not going to make him stop crying, but it works well to help calm him, along with your own soothing methods (recommended: Happiest Baby on the Block book). It is great for ambient noise in the background while the baby sleeps, or for a nice relaxing night time feeding session. We have this cd and a mother's heartbeat cd set to lullabies. We play one or the other (along with his humidifier which has a loud fan) every night. I like the product and I am glad that I own it, but could I have done without it? Yes, it is not necessary. It is not some baby sleep thru the night break-through. Baby will eventually sleep thru the night, but not because of this cd.
Disappointed.......2006-02-02
I wasn't able to play this CD. Unlike most CDs, it is not a stamped copy, it is a burned copy which makes it unplayable in my older CD player. For $20 I expected it to work like any other CD.
I was able to listen to it in my computer and I really like the CD. Too bad I can't drag the computer into baby's room because I've heard so many good things about the sleeping magic of this CD.
WOW! This CD works on my daugher's colic.......2004-07-09
This is really different from all the other CD's we tried - this really works- the music is very organic and immediatly effective - put us to sleep also - we might have some relief from my daugther's colic finally! (don't play this while driving!)
This CD is Amazing!.......2004-07-05
My sister gave us a copy and we were shocked to find that something out there really does work.

Customer Reviews:
Poetry in Motion.......2007-03-10
Simon and Garfunkel were not just singers - they were incredibly talented poets who wrote words which touched your heart. Think of Shakespeare or Robert Frost put to music. You get not only the power of the words, but also the beauty fo the music.
With Sounds of Silence, you get numerous classics - The Sounds of Silence, I Am a Rock, Kathy's Song for three. You also get a collection of less well known but just as intricate tunes - Leaves that are Green, Blessed, Somewhere they Can't Find Me, Anji, Richard Cory, A Most Peculiar Man, April Come She Will, We've got a Groovey Thing Goin'.
Each song here has its own meaningful message. In I Am A Rock, they sing "I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died. If I never loved, I never would have cried." Quite a different view from 'Tis better to have loved and lost'!
In The Sounds of Silence, they rail against people complacently accepting what they are told. "The people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made." Written back in 1965, the words are just as meaningful in modern times.
Well recommended!
Some Dynamic Acoustic Touches.......2002-10-18
Simon and Garfunkel contribute great songs and harmonies to this Sunds of Silence release. The title track is oh so haunting. The instrumental support is quite captivating in an understated way. Anji is dynamic guitar workout and spunky rhythms of We've Got A Groovy Thing Going are surely pleasing to the ear.
Some people may settle on a compilation but Simon and Garfunkel bring too much to the table to bypass this release as well as several of their other original releases.
prefer this sounds of silence..........2001-01-09
I prefer the version of sounds of silence here to the one on 3am. they are both good, but in my opinion this one is much more dramatic and moving. they sound a tiny bit off on the 3am one. this cd is a must have for everyone who likes truly great music.
Pleasant variation rooted in their humble beginnings.......2000-10-20
Most fanatics will direct you towards "Bookends" or "Bridge Over Troubled Water", but the comfortable variances among "Sounds Of Silence" deserve recognition too. Sure, songs like "Leaves That Are Green" and "We've Got A Groovy Thing Goin'" don't carry the musical or emotional weight of their more ambitious later work, and the morbid lyrics of "Richard Cory" deserve a more somber interpretation, as they do on "April Come She Will", but hey, it's only their second album! The Beatles never cited these two as an influence, but hearing this makes you wonder if they cued up this album while passing the peace pipe during the recording of "Rubber Soul". Simon & Garfunkel easily shift themselves into a Byrds-ian jangle stomp on "Blessed", "I Am A Rock" and the title track. If Dylan went electric, why can't they?
There are hints though, of the more complex music they would produce later. An echoing trumpet trails throughout "Somewhere They Can't Find Me" and "Leaves That Are Green" gets its playfulness from a sprinkling harpsichord. It's a noticeable stir for a duo whose first album was loaded heavy with Christian spirituals; now they're singing about robbery, Soho and suicide. Highly recommended for eclectic folk taste.

Album Description
In 1970, Kingsley formed the pioneering First Moog Quartet, a four-synthesizer ensemble that attempted to prove that the electronic music could be played 'live' on stage, even in classical musical venues like Carnegie Hall (where the group gave the first live performance of synthesized music ever on January 30, 1970). Kingsley said, 'People were kind of confused about the concert, I understand, because it was just so new.' In order to get the Moog Quartet going, Kingsley had to convince Robert Moog to build the three other synthesizers he needed. Then hire & train four musicians to play them. Not an easy task. But Kingsley's First Moog Quartet (originally released in 1970 on Audio Fidelity) is the astonishing result. Original artwork. Features 8 tracks & 8-page booklet. Dagored. 2003.
