Tim McGraw's second greatest-hits collection in six years is also his ninth consecutive debut at #1 on the Billboard country charts. That means he must be doing something right. But what, precisely, aside from keeping up his hunk factor, and maturing his voice? Well--choosing dynamic songs that resonate at the very core of most folks' emotional center, for starters. So it's no surprise that this 16-song package kicks off with "Live Like You Were Dying," his ten-week #1 crossover hit. In addition to chart-toppers dating from 1995 ("Not a Moment Too Soon"), McGraw fills the track list with two smashes that never appeared on his own albums: his Grammy-winning duet with wife Faith Hill, "Like We Never Loved At All," and "Over and Over," the soulful Nelly confession in which McGraw, his voice technically altered, essentially serves as the rapper's tortured psyche. Of the four new songs, a cover of Ryan Adams's "When the Stars Go Blue" emerges as a stellar example of the pained loner ballads McGraw does so well, and brings to mind the faint desperation inherent in his interpretation of Elton John's "Tiny Dancer." And "My Little Girl," one of two rare McGraw co-writes here (joining "I've Got Friends Who Do"), draws on his experience as a parent and promises to flatten any father who's ever tucked in his daughter. Through the years, McGraw's on-record persona has evolved from the wimpish underdog ("Don't Take the Girl") to the strong, sensitive alpha male, both in his take-charge delivery and his sometimes edgy repertoire ("Red Ragtop"). All in all, this lengthy, hooky offering isn't just a "value pack" for McGraw fans--it's reason to hire a skywriter. --Alanna Nash

Album Description

Tim McGraw Reflected: Hits Vol 2, his second collection of greatest hits. Showcasing a body of work bookended by 1994's "Not A Moment Too Soon" and 2006's "My Old Friend," it is a reminder of the consistency and depth that have made him such an icon. Several of the songs are drawn from two albums he recorded in a mountaintop retreat with his touring band, 2002's Tim McGraw & the Dancehall Doctors, and 2004's Live Like You Were Dying. Together, they sold seven million copies, and between them they produced hits like "Watch The Wind Blow By," "Red Ragtop," "She's My Kind of Rain," "Real Good Man," and the ten-week #1, "Live Like You Were Dying," all of which are included here. The project also includes "Everywhere," from the CD of the same name, and "Grown Men Don't Cry" and "The Cowboy In Me," from 2001's "Set This Circus Down."

4 out of 5 stars good music.......2007-05-14

My daughter is getting married and wanted a song from this cd to use I was delighted that I liked the other music just as well

1 out of 5 stars Butchery.......2007-04-06

A decent collection overall of his "good" songs (I don't really like him anyways), but he completely manages to butcher "When the Stars Go Blue." The original is WAY better, and The Corrs covered it with Andrea and Bono (from U2) MUCH better. The country twang just totally kills the mood of the song. I am a professional audio engineer, and heard him do this song live and it just made me cringe. Skip this CD.

2 out of 5 stars not the best.......2007-03-28

Not Tim's best work. I only liked 1 of the tracks. Spend your money on his most recent albums. I don't think these were his greatest hits.

5 out of 5 stars Great songs on this CD.......2007-03-26

I love this entire CD. This one is worth it. Sometimes I have bought a CD for 1 or 2 songs. This one is full of great songs.

1 out of 5 stars He's Horrible.......2007-03-04

McGraw is a pretentious, talentless slimeball who exploits the ignorance and poor taste of his fans. His songs are mediocre at best and generally unlistenable to anyone who appreciates good music. Basically, he is a talentless slob who ranks among all the other bubble-gum pop/country performers as forgettable and pretentious.

And if that wasn't enough, he absolutely butchers Ryan Adams' beautiful song "When The Stars Go Blue." It's tough to hear McGraw hack such a lovely song, but at least Adams (who is one of the better singer/songwriters around in any genre) is making some money for it.

If you like good music or real artists, you should look elsewhere - perhaps check out Ryan Adam's original version of "When The Stars Go Blue". Regardless, McGraw is a classless act and a mockery to the country music establishment.

Amazon.com essential recording

It's one of the cruel ironies of music today that Billy Joel has been relegated to a kind of adult-contemporary hell, where his legacy is measured by soft-rock staples such as "Just the Way You Are," "Piano Man," and "New York State of Mind." To be sure, well-crafted ballads are a part of his legacy, but they're hardly the whole story, as this collection of his early and mid-period hits amply demonstrates. From the unbridled biographical boasting of "The Entertainer" and the ambitious storytelling of "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" to the careening abandon of "Only the Good Die Young" and the thoughtful social commentary of "Allentown," Joel was as complete an artist as the last three decades have produced. --Daniel Durchholz

4 out of 5 stars Billy Joel - A Decent Compilation.......2007-06-11

These days Billy Joel is often lumped in with Elton John as being remembered only for his top 40 radio hits and mushy ballads from the past several decades. Many people forget that like Elton, Joel put out some really strong albums in his early and mid-career. The guy was a songwriter's songwriter and not only could play a hell of a piano, but could be a very clever lyricist as well. Like Elton, Joel's output could be very inconsistent. For every "Goodnight Saigon" or "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant" he wrote more throwaway stuff like "Uptown Girl" or "Tell Her About It". This two disc compilation captures all of his singles and some of his album tracks up to 1985. For the most part the material here is good, as you hear him move from an album oriented artist to a more commercial singles oriented one over the course of a little over a decade. The first disc is the best and starts out with some of the best cuts from his pre-superstar days. "Piano Man", "Captain Jack", "The Entertainer", and "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant" are all great tracks and show a much different side of Joel than much of his later output. "The Stranger" is also included here. Although I was never crazy about the music or the chorus to this one, the lyrics are some of Joel's all time best. The rest of disc one starts dipping into Joel's big hit territory with the mush ballads "Just The Way You Are", and "She's Always A Woman" (written for his 1st wife who he would divorce not too many years later). The big hits "Only The Good Die Young" and "Moving Out" are also included. Disc two is not quite as strong. Three strong songs open the disc "My Life", "Big Shot" and "You May Be Right" all decent songs that got played to death on radio. Then it is back to mediocrity land with "It's Still Rock n Roll To Me" (I always think of the Weird Al Yankovic parody "It's Still Billy Joel To Me"), "Don't Ask Me Why", and "She's Got A Way". The best part of this disc is the three tracks from what is in my opinion Joel's strongest album "The Nylon Curtain". For this one Joel took a serious turn and came up with some really great songs. The 3 singles from the album are all represented here and they are all good ones. "Allentown" is a portrait of the Pennsylvania steel town after the industry pretty much pulled out. "Pressure" is another good one about the pressure of modern day life. "Goodnight Saigon" may be Joel's best all time work, and is a striking portrait of the Vietnam War. The last half of the CD covers Joel's Do Wop period with "Uptown Girl", "The Longest Time", and "Tell Her About It" (songs about his second wife whom he would eventually divorce). I am not much of a Do Wop fan so these don't do a lot for me. Two new (at the time) songs close the disc out and are pretty much both throw aways in my opinion. In the end this is a nice compilation of early Joel material. If you are looking for an overview this would be a good pick up.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits.......2007-05-11

Many "Greatest Hits..." albums and sets are lacking or down right suck. This set is great. The songs you want to hear the way you expect to hear them.

1 out of 5 stars WARNING: Not the Complete Versions.......2007-03-31

I don't often get "greatest hits" collections, preferring instead to buy original albums, but in this case I did, because there are a handful of Billy Joel songs I wanted in my collection, but I didn't want to invest enough to purchase all of his albums. Unfortunately, they don't tell you that what you get here, at least in some instances, are the "single" versions of these songs, not the full-length versions from the original albums. Case in point: One of my favorite Billy Joel songs is "Just the Way You Are," but the version on this set cuts an entire verse. I haven't done comparisons on all of the other songs, but if they'd pull that on this song, they probably did so on others as well. It's incomprehensible to me; if someone wants Billy Joel songs, the odds are that they want the complete songs, not truncated re-edits.

5 out of 5 stars I love it.......2007-01-11

I was familiar with a few of Billy Joel's songs, but I thought my disc collection would not be complete if I did not own a good sample of his material.
This product proposes a chronological approach and that suited me just fine. The two discs are loaded with all the classics. All of them wonderfully digitalized. I was able to appreciate the enormous range of Billy Joel. Great songwriter, great singer, great piano player. Although I am drummer, I do understand why people like him, or Sting, or Stevie Wonder, or Elton John, are on top of the music industry food chain. It is truly difficult to be able to master so many areas of music. And I am not talking about the performing, the band leading chores, the musical direction, production, publicity, all these extra skills to own in order to arrive where they are.
Getting one hit out is already a rare feat, but 35 or 40 like the ones presented in this compilation, require a truly great mind (something many one hit wonders wish to have).
I love this compilation. A great buy!

Anyone who is still clueless about what a great singer Ronnie Dunn is need only grab this second greatest-hits package from Brooks & Dunn, a 17-song compilation that skims the commercial high points from the duo's 1998-2004 period. Dunn, the quintessential balladeer, soars on honky-tonk laments and reminiscences like "Red Dirt Road" and "How Long Gone," and on full-throated romantic plaints like "That's What She Gets for Loving Me" and "It's Getting Better All the Time." His sidekick, the underrated guitarist, utility singer, and all-around dynamo Kix Brooks, also gets his moment to shine on a marvelous '60s-style, 18-wheeler ditty called "Independent Trucker," one of three new cuts included here. --Bob Allen

It's amazing to think they have more than enough for another greatest hits compilation! Full of originals that will always be greatest hits.

2 out of 5 stars something missing .......2007-02-16

Ok, you see two stars up there and you start thinking to yourself "what

could possibly be wrong with this album" Well, there is something wrong

with this album. If you do not believe me then look it up for yourself.

This does have great songs on here and all of their hits to mention that.

But I just noticed something, and I have had this album for a year or

two. There is three songs that is not on here that was hits on the radio.

They might not have been big hits, but they did get air play. (missing

you) from their "tight rope" album (you'll always be loved by me) from

their "tight rope" album and (I am that man) from the "boarderline" album.

5 out of 5 stars Brooks And Dunn - always Great!.......2007-01-09

I love this cd and all the songs on it! There is a great variety of their style music for all to enjoy. I would be hardpressed to find a favorite! I have other cd's of theirs and they are all good - including the Christmas cd. If you are a fan of theirs you will really enjoy this cd!

4 out of 5 stars impressive/holds its own.......2006-11-04

While this collection doesn't quite hold up to the duo's first greatest hits compilation, it is still good. Hits like "How Long Gone," "The Long Goodbye," and "South of Santa Fe" are good choices for this album, which pretty much holds its own. If you are a fan of Brooks & Dunn, odds are you will like this album. The duo is still good after all these years, and I hope whey will continue for many more.

This time selected and programmed by the man himself, the two-disc second installment in Dylan's Greatest Hits series comes off as much more idiosyncratic than its brother, famed songs ("Lay Lady Lay," "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall") notwithstanding. An even richer cut-by-cut listen than the earlier best-of, this 1971 set masterfully casts the classics into new light and adds previously non-LP singles (the smashing "Watching the River Flow," with the Amazon.com fave line "People disagreein' just about everywhere you look / Makes you wanna stop and read a book; let's have lunch, Bob"), a then-unheard live 1963 "Tomorrow Is a Long Time," and new, stunning, off-the-cuff takes of "I Shall Be Released," "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere," and "Down in the Flood." --Rickey Wright

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Should have been on a single disc.......2007-04-08

Only complaint I have is this should have been on 1 disc. Disc 1 is 36 minutes flat & disc 2 is 42:23. All 21 tracks could have easily fit on one space-saving 78 minute disc. Only way to justify this being on 2 discs would be to include at least 1 bonus track, which Columbia has done on some other artists' reissues. Other labels have reissued 2 LP sets on 1 CD, such as Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland, The Who's Tommy & Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, so they should have done that with this album.

5 out of 5 stars Dylan Fans.......2007-02-22

Bob Dylan is always at his best, but this time he may be more on top than usual. The music is fresh, concise, and delivered with enthusiasm. It reminds me of a time when the music and the story were the most important issues.

5 out of 5 stars Staying Alive with Bob .......2007-01-04

My husband gave away our old stereo equipment, including the Thorens record changer. What is a girl to do? I bought my favorite tunes from Amazon! Can't live without Bob. I got his 2006 album as well. Yah! Good!

5 out of 5 stars The Best Dylan Hits Collection.......2006-11-04

The first Dylan hits collection has all the famous stuff from the mid-Sixties: Blowing in the Wing, Mr. Tambourine Man, Like a Rolling Stone, The Times They Are A-Changin' etc. Those songs are indispensable to any rock collection.

But I think I like volume two better. This collection has twice as many songs as the first hits album, and the songs are mesmerizingly beautiful and skillfully written.

Another reason why I like this collection better than volume one is because the songs on volume one have been played to death on the radio. I love the melodious pop folk sounds of "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue, "My Back Pages," and "I Shall Be Released."

I also like the hard rocking "Maggie's Farm," the soft rocking "All Along the Watchtower," the country melody of "If Not For You,' aw heck, I like them all.

It should also go without saying that every single Dylan album from the 1960s is absolutely 5 star material, and some of his later albums are vastly unappreciated (Slow Train Coming, Infidels).

I highly recommend Greatest Hits Volume two as a great place to experience the diverse and beautiful sounds of Bob Dylan.

5 out of 5 stars a really great collection.......2006-08-29

the funniest thing ,i think, about this album is that it came out in the 90s.his 1st greatest hits album came out in 73.that was supposed to cover 73 and back.this new one sgould have picked up in 74 and went till its realease.however all the songs are oldies from the 60s,hinting maybe the 70s and 80s werent nearly as good.anyhow, theres "dont think twice its alright"-catchy."lay lady lay"-a beautiful love song."stuck inside mobile with the memphis blues again"-upbeat and catchy."ill be your baby tonight"-a sort of love dovey song abour a one night stand.only dylan!!!!!!!!!!"all i really want to do"-lyrical genius!"my back pages" is a song about reversing the aging process."maggies farm" is the dylan equivelant of "take this job and shove it!"."tonight ill be staying here with you" is good just like all the rest.ok disc 1 is down .now disc 2."she belongs to me" still sounds fine."all along the watchtower" is classic!then theres "mighty quinn the eskimo"-wtf???????????and "just like tom thumb blues".i guess they canr all be winners.then "a hard rain is gonna fall" a jim morrison like song but full of love like john lennon."if not for you"is singable."its all over now baby blue" is very pretty.then a few extras for space i think.this album kicks butt!

This second collection of hits features a hardening of sorts for these laid back southern California rockers. The emphasis shifts away from the lazy, rolling rhythms of the first collection to the tighter and harder-edged material contained herein. Part of the blame may be the inclusion of James Gang veteran Joe Walsh who adds noticeable lead guitar work and galvanizes Don Henley and Glenn Frey into taking greater chances. "Hotel California" is the obvious potboiler, but "Heartache Tonight," "Life in the Fast Lane," and "The Long Run" are close runners-up. Timothy B. Schmit's vocals on "I Can't Tell You Why" return the band full circle to their mellow, country-rock roots. --Rob O'Connor

5 out of 5 stars good album.......2007-07-05

"Seven Bridges Road" is my favorite Eagles song, yet I never had a copy of it. I had a few copies of the early Eagles albums on vinyl and later on cassette, but this was the first Eagles CD I added to my collection. I purchased this CD mainly because I couldn't find any other way to get a copy of "Seven Bridges Road". I listen to the whole album often. Turns out, I like the later day Eagles hits even more now than when they were on the radio all the time.

2 out of 5 stars Not so great !.......2007-04-18

I am not a fan of the band, I have listen to this cd a couple of time and I am not very pleased with it. There is just a couple of good tracks, not enough for me to keep this cd. I will use it as a gift for somebody who will listen to it, because I won't if I keep it.

5 out of 5 stars The title says it all!.......2006-12-18

As I said in my review for the first compilation, this album can afford to be out of print now that there's the surpassing THE VERY BEST OF THE EAGLES. There are ten chart-risers on this set(on hit parade between 1976 and '80) like the first set has. SEVEN BRIDGES ROAD is a live track derived from a 1980 concert(the band was still promoting THE LONG RUN). It could have used PLEASE COME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS which many radio stations played every Christmas season since 1978. HOTEL CALIFORNIA tracks include the title track,NEW KID IN TOWN,LIFE IN THE FAST LANE and VICTIM OF LOVE. Tracks from TLR are the title track,I CAN'T TELL YOU WHY and HEARTACHE TONIGHT(co-written by Bob Seger,a longtime friend of the band's lead guitarist/vocalist Glenn Frey's and drummer/vocalist Don Henley's). This set was released in 1982 when Frey and Henley were just experiencing success as solo artists(the Eagles disbanded the previous year). Frey put out NO FUN ALOUD on the MCA label and Henley remained with Asylum putting out I CAN'T STAND STILL. Henley signed with Geffen thereafter and still records on that label today.

4 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits not as great as they could be..........2006-10-14

First off, I love the Eagles. If you're just getting into the Eagles, I think this and the first Greatest Hits are a good way to start. However, for people like myself, who know the band in and out, this isn't so 'great'. "After the Thrill is Gone" shouldn't be on here. The addition of "Those Shoes" would have been much better. I am also not fond of the inclusion of "Seven Bridges Road". I know they play the song at a lot of their shows, but it's not their song. I think "Wasted Time" would have been a great choice. Sadly though, the two Greatest Hits CDs have been rendered almost-useless by the 2003 The Very Best Of. This is still worth the money.

4 out of 5 stars The hits, take two........2005-10-10

Obviously this goes well with the previous hits collection, but Volume 2 stands on its own also. It's just another ten songs that everybody knows well. The biggie here of course is "Hotel California", but tracks like "Seven Bridges Road" and "Life In The Fast Lane" are classics too. Again, they're all great. I miss many songs from this era, specifically "In The City", but a ten track album was typical for the time this was released. Now that we have the 33 track "Very Best Of The Eagles" this isn't so essential, but it's still a sweet 45 minutes.

After the frequently dark themes of his Warner Bros. years, James Taylor lightened his approach in the '80s and '90s with gentle affirmations such as "That's Why I'm Here" and "Shed a Little Light." Greatest Hits Volume 2, a sequel to the 1976 disc that has sold 11 million copies, covers this material with a generous 16 cuts. Unfortunately, thanks to the often too-polite production and a couple too many oldies covers ("Handy Man" is exquisite, "Up on the Roof" and "Everyday" somnolent), the work here is uneven and blurred together. A handful of gems do prevail, though; especially notable are "Secret o' Life"--perhaps Taylor's truly wisest song ever--and "(I've Got to) Stop Thinkin' 'Bout That." --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars A Great Follow to Greatest Hits 1.......2007-06-30

Greatest Hits 1 has been a best seller since the mid 1970s. It is a truly amazing artist who can have a greatest hits album so early in his career anyway. Greatest Hits 1 is a must-have. Greatest Hits 2, along with "Very Best of James Taylor," is another great album. It gives you some of the best songs from albums introduced after Greatest Hits 1 was released, but I do not know how they managed to narrow down this list of songs. Mr. Taylor really needs a Greatest Hits 3 and 4. Good buy.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD- .......2007-01-12

This CD contains most of my favorite songs. It's what you would expect from his greatest hits. If you like James Taylor, it is a must have in my opinion.....

5 out of 5 stars Sweet Baby James..........2006-09-03

Ahhhh, who doesn't like James Taylor...hey! Put your hand down...if you're not a JT fan, get outta here...now...I'll ask you again, who doesn't like James Taylor? That's better because James Taylor has got to be one of the best musicians around. His voice is clear, his guitar playing is flawless, he just seems to make music that makes you feel. JT can make you feel happy, sad, mixed up, alone, open, free, etc. Not too many musicians can run the gambit of emotions that taylor can produce in one album.

Let's take for instance his cover "Up On the Roof"...oh, man...I get tears thinking about this song. It makes me remember when I was thirteen and I just felt like I needed a place to go all by myself; a place where nobody else could go. I did, as a matter of fact, start going up on the roof of my dad's house much to his chagrin. But it was a funny thing sittin' up on that roof, lookin' out on everything below, I got a "higher" perspective on things; that maybe I couldn't have gotten if I were "down below" in the midst of the situation.

And then there is "Her Town Too". Who hasn't gone through a breakup? Remember how right after a split, you wouldn't know what to do? Her friends became yours and yours became hers and so there was this odd feeling of not knowing where to go or who to turn to. It's a sad song, a very sad song, but it's almost healing the way James Taylor sings it.

This is a great record and Warner Brothers should just release this as a Double Set but because they are shrewd at making money , they probably never will. That's okay. JT fans will still end up buying both.

Peace and Blessings, everyone...

4 out of 5 stars A Voice For The Ages.......2005-09-18

I went to see James Taylor on Aug. 13 and bought this CD the next day. His voice in concert sounds as crystal clear and smooth as it did 30-odd years ago. If you have not seen him live, he puts on an outstanding show! The best part of it is that at his concerts you will find people of all ages-from teenagers to 60-somethings and everyone in between! Anyway, my wife and I already have "Volume One" and play it constantly! You must have Volume Two to complete your set or get the other compilation that came out later. The first two thirds of the album are great up through "Got To Stop Thinkin' 'Bout That". The newer tracks were good, but not classics. Highlights - "Secret 'O Life and "Your Smiling Face". Put "Your Smiling Face" in your car's CD player, roll down the windows and enjoy the perfect summer song!!!

5 out of 5 stars LOVE JT !!.......2005-09-09

I am the biggest James Tyalor fan ever! HAHA.. I love this CD. I play it all the time.
My favorite song..."Your Smiling Face" and I also love "Another Day"

Only one title on the second volume of the three-volume Good Vibrations best-of series cracked the U.S. top 10, 1964's "When I Grow Up to Be a Man." (Five of the selections here made the U.K. charts--"Do It Again," "I Can Hear Music," "Break Away," "Darlin'," and "Cottonfields.") In contrast to its loaded-with-hits predecessor, Greatest Hits Volume 1: 20 Good Vibrations, Volume 2 serves up songs that stand as second-tier Beach Boys--but only in commercial terms. The likes of "In My Room," "Don't Worry, Baby," "Caroline, No," and "Heroes and Villains" stand well above Volume One's "409," "Little Deuce Coupe," and "Sloop John B" in their contribution to the group's incredible legacy. Those hungry for hits will want to stick with the earlier volume, but burgeoning Beach Boys boosters will find this 20-song set every bit the match--and arguably the subjugator--of its all-hits forerunner. --Steven Stolder

5 out of 5 stars Makes You Feel as if It Can Be Summer All Year Long.......2007-04-02

This album brings together all the all time favorites from the infamous Beach Boys. In My Room, Don't Worry, Baby, and Friends are all included in this CD that is guaranteed to get your blood pumping. Its hard to resist getting up and dancing to these wonderful tracks. If you like the Beach boys, you are sure to love this album. Its got all the right tunes and grooves. It makes you feel as it can be summer all year long. I highly recommend this album to any person of any age, its safe for kids, another perk of these amazing tracks.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection...But You Have To Buy The Other 2 Volumes!.......2004-05-19

As the album title indicates, this collection picks up where Volume 1 ends. Although some of the songs barely cracked the Top 40, I feel these songs are just as important and do more than just "supplement" Volume 1. Like Volume 1, these songs are short radio versions.

The liner notes are enjoyable along with the colorful pictures, song credits and chart positions. As stated in my title, you can't just buy this without getting the other two volumes. Plus, this three volume set may save you from buying their more expensive box set which contains over 100 songs. With this three volume, three CD set, you get 60 songs you will want. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars + 1/2 stars...The Rest of the Capitol Hits (and Near Misses).......2004-03-14

In many ways the Beach Boys GREATEST HITS VOL. 2 (along with Vol. 1 and 3) is a better choice than the 2003 single disc SOUNDS OF SUMMER. You not only still get all of their Top 40 singles (which SOUNDS OF SUMMER can't claim), you get some key album tracks and singles that charted outside the Top 40. So Vol. 2 not only gives you the big hits like "When I Grow Up (To Be a Man)" (1964, #9) and "Heroes and Villains" (1967, #12), you get Beach Boy favorites like "Wendy" (1964, #44) and "Friends" (1968, #47), along with b-sides like "Please Let Me Wonder" and the U.K.-only single release of "Cottonfields" from 1970--where it was one of their biggest hits at #3!

Even at 20 tracks the album is still a bit skimpy (running time - 51:12), but it helps provide a solid overview of the Beach Boys first decade. Like Vol. 1, the 12-page foldout booklet is awkward, but the essay by Beach Boy author Brad Elliot offers some terrific insight, the photos are wonderful and the track-by-track studio info is informative. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

5 out of 5 stars Great Material Unknown To Much Fans.......2004-01-30

Volume 2 in the "Good Vibrations" series tends give a more intriguing look at The Beach Boys. There is little, if any, inklings of the classic surf numbers. This disc seems to focus more on Brian Wilson's studio wizardry and their unique harmonies.

The first 11 tracks are from when the band was still hot and tearing up the charts. Here is where you'll find the eloquent "In My Room", the gloomy but optimistic "The Warmth Of The Sun" (great Brian falsetto on this one), the "faster, faster" vocal riff on "Little Honda", and the heartshattering "Don't Worry Baby", to name a few. Other gems include the one "Pet Sounds" track, "Caroline, No", the heartwrenching "Please Let Me Wonder", and the upbeat grooves on "You're So Good To Me".

The rest of the disc is from when the band started to become passe. Here we get tracks that are relative unknowns, with the exception of the infamous "Heroes And Villains". There's there two top 20 hits from this period, the pretty "Darlin'" and the nostalgic "Do It Again". There's also the sweet "Friends", a rock reworking of the country standard "Bluebirds Over The Mountain", and Carl's heavenly high on "I Can Hear Music". Closing this album is "Breakaway", featuring ebullient harmonies, and another reworked country standard, a marvelous Al Jardine - produced "Cottonfields".

I heavily suggest you purchase this album. It not only is full of great music but exposes the casual listener to a whole new world of Beach Boys music that they never heard before.

3 out of 5 stars Not Bad, But Greatest Hits Volume One is Better.......2004-01-16

This is a must for the absolute, die-hard Beach Boys fan. However, on the other hand, if you are a more casual Beach Boys fan (nothing wrong with that either), skip this CD and get the Greatest Hits of the Beach Boys, Volume One.

The first greatest hits CD has their BEST songs, their all-time, absolute GREATEST HITS. This CD picks up where volume one leaves off and focuses on their lesser known, and less popular songs.

Some of the selections contained in this CD are "I Can Hear Music," "In My Room," "All Summer Long," and "You're So Good To Me."

These songs are a study of how the Beach Boys' material matured and evolved from car, girl, and surfing songs to more intricate songs. It was at this point in their history that Brian Wilson wanted to progress from their surfing and car material to other types of songs, but the other members of the band still wanted to play surfing and car songs.

This volume is an study in that evolution. It is certainly not a bad CD, but if you prefer the car and surfing material, stick with volume one.

As the late 1980s gradually segued into the early 1990s, the choices of material and the production values Reba McEntire brought to her recordings often seemed to be guided as much by right-brained market savvy as by true left-brain inspiration. This "hits" compilation skims the cream of her commercial achievements during this prolific period in her career. Though there are only 10 tracks, these include landmark No. 1 singles like "You Lie," "Fancy," "Is There Life out There," and "Does He Love You," a heartfelt duet with Linda Davis. --Bob Allen

Excellent collection, from teh standpoint of the country music fan, of hits from one of country's greatest female singers. The songs here are all of top-notch quality, enjoyable by even non-country fans.

3 out of 5 stars Reba McEntire Greatest Hits Vol. 2.......2007-05-20

This cd is very good. All Reba songs on this album are not what expected to hear there even better.

4 out of 5 stars Cool tracks, expansive style........2007-03-27

During this time period Reba started to stretch out in new directions and this CD captures it well. The Amazon review makes it seem a bit like Reba was "selling out" by trying new musical styles, but I think she believed in what she was doing, gang, and that's reflected by her choice of a song off this CD--Fancy--to sing at her CMT Giants: REBA special. Sincere smackdowns to Dixie Chicks fan The Expert for using an earlier review of this CD to launch a massive mound of misguided moronities at one of the most decent and gracious performers to ever grace the stage. The Chicks tried the clever liberal marginalization trick right after the 2007 Gore-Chick Grammies when one of them said, "We don't want fans who put us in their CD player along with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith." I have news for the Chicks: no one has ever thought of them as being in the same major league as the other two or ever will. They're being used as part of the ongoing news & entertainment media (NEM) FU to George W. Bush, and when his term ends so will the relentless, sickening free PR campaign the Chicks have enjoyed on MSN.com and a myriad of other media outlets ever since they verbally spit on the president in London. Thus a career ballooned out of proportion by media hot air will come crashing back to earth where it belongs, next to other media-smoke-and-mirrors "stars" like Marilyn Manson and Sinead O'Connor.

5 out of 5 stars Love Reba!.......2007-03-20

I'm not a huge country fan but Reba McEntire is great! She's an amazing musician! This album has a great collection of songs on it! My favorites are "You Lie," "For My Broken Heart," and "Is There Life Out There." Super album...highly recommended!!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best..........2007-02-12

The below reviewer who said Reba took a shot at "real musicians" is crazy!
Reba is AMAZING. I don't bash the Dixie Chicks, I own one album- but I would hardly even put them in the same category as reba. She is a legend in an over produced music industry. Listen to her VOICE. She is amazing and sings with passion. How could you even say she belongs in a convienience store behind the counter? She clearly belongs in the music industry. She knows real country and she knows how to rock an audience. Stupid review.

"Lets hang on" has great hook and is one of my favorites. I got the CD coz I'd heard "December 1963" in the past, liked it but didn't know who performed it. One of the better purchases I've made in 2006.
