Album Description

The Place You're In, Kenny Wayne Shepherd's long-awaited fourth album, marks a stunning stylistic shift for an artist who almost single-handedly introduced blues-rock to a new audience. One of the most acclaimed guitarists of his generation not only leans more heavily toward rock, but also releases his first album featuring his vocals. Says Shepherd, whose first three albums went gold or platinum and who has earned seven Top 10 Mainstream Rock cuts and three Grammy® nominations: "We're all growing and changing....We might as well get behind it and enjoy the ride." And enjoy The Place You're In.

5 out of 5 stars Not his style but great.......2007-06-13

If you buys this cd expecting the blues style on Kenny you will not be pleased, but if you also like pure rock you will be pleased. People are rateing this cd based on the fact that it is not a blues rock cd rather than rating the quality of the songs. It rocks!! If you like rock you will like it, if you will only except his origianl blues rock style don't buy it.

1 out of 5 stars RICK SHAQ GOLDSTEIN SAYS: "THE PLACE THIS BELONGS IN, IS THE TRASH!".......2007-05-26

Your Mother told you to never talk to strangers, and your Father told you to heed good advice! Well, other than "Shaq's, The King Of The World Blues Reviewer's" loyal fans, I may be a stranger to you, but if you value your time and money, and love the blues, you better take my advice! This CD stinks. Before you tune me out, you'd be smart to listen to me. I own Kenny's previous 3 CD's "Ledbetter Heights", "Trouble Is", and "Live On". Those were all really good, blues/rock, and Kenny was so young, that I thought wow! There is someone on the very close horizon, who had the "potential", (potential is the key word here!) to fill the large electric blues void left by Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc. (As the legendary Buddy Guy and a few others get older.) Well, we all come to a crossroads in our life, and if this CD was Kenny's crossroad, he surely took the wrong turn. Some people may not like this review, because the truth hurts! If you like the blues, don't buy this CD, it's awful. For the sake of the future of electric blues, I can only pray, that Kenny asks for directions on how to get back on the road to the electric blues. You, yes you! The person reading this review, can help by not buying this CD, or Kenny may falsely believe he isn't on a dead-end street, and that, my friends, would give me the blues!

5 out of 5 stars not blues all rock.......2007-02-27

this is a great powerful roc album with great vocals....if you want blues dont buy this, as a blues album it would suck, but as a rnr album....yahooooo its hot ... now i like all of kws cd's and this one is my favorite by far. noah only sings 2 songs he has a gr8 blues voice, the rest is kenny and kid rock i think helps out on a song. i think this is more along the lines of old aerosmith with a touch of skynyrd...what ever it is i love it as a rock album.

4 out of 5 stars Give the guy a break!.......2007-02-23

Grant it, this is a departure from the blues, BUT how can you not like this recording (assuming you like RnR) Give him credit, he always has made leaps (not always as big) but be honest, he has been going in this direction since the first release.
As far as copying Lenny, again, give the guy a break, his voice is what it is. It's not his fault he sounds a little like Lenny. BUT CLEARLY, Kenny's out put on this recording is a TON better than what Lenny can crank out.
Come on, all the good ones make changes and move on. Be thankful he is a "good one"

2 out of 5 stars Horribly Disappointing.......2006-10-14

Like many others I had eagerly awaited the release of this album. KWS's first three albums were so fantastic and I expected this one to be at least as good, if not better. Unfortunately, it falls far short of my expectations.

There are only two songs on this album that aren't absolute disasters - the two featuring vocals by Noah Hunt. Kenny's vocal talent is mediocre at best and is totally unsuited for the type of music he is trying out on this album. It seems that KWS is searching for himself with this effort. Unfortunately, it seems he has lost himself in the process.

3 out of 5 stars Not Bad, But Far From Their Best.......2007-01-25

Gone are Whitford and Perry, in are Crespo and Dufay. This is not a bad album, but not really anything that stands out either. The songs are all ok, but much of it sounds haphazard and thrown together. "Joanie's Butterfly" is a bit different, but most of the album is kind of going through the numbers blues rock. Certainly not an essential album, but for fans of the band it is not a throwaway either.

5 out of 5 stars AEROSMITH IN BLUE.......2006-10-10

This is a fine Aerosmith release. If you like Aerosmith when they were still into putting out rock and roll on the sleazy edge then you will surely dig this album. This came out in 1982, and finds the band at a broken point, with two of it's original members gone, and two replacements in, it has a different feel to it than pretty much anything else... but not too different. LIGHTNING STRIKES is one of the most rockin songs the band ever put out, on a metal tip, and JOANIES BUTTERFLY gives us a clue of where Steven Tyler was going with his muse (you will notice some cool psychedelic touches in both.) The booziest soaked blues number CRY ME A RIVER becomes a real jammer, a little hep cat b-b-b-blues on numbers like JAILBAIT and PUSH COMES TO SHOVE... and one of my personal favorites BITCHS BREW (whatchoo doin' in that Bryar patch?)...
Everybody says that this album suffered from the bands condition at the time, but I can't agree. The production is top notch, and I find that song for song this is a quality A-smith release. I think at the time Steven Tyler and Joe Perry needed to take a little space, because they were definately suffocating each other in the late seventies... this album may not have been a success, but it definately shows that the band never lost their talents... its in my top five, or at least six... Check it out!

5 out of 5 stars Bravo Jimmy Crespo!!! Best Pinch Hitter!!!!.......2006-09-18

OK, let's face it, this NOT your typical Aero album.
Hell, it's WAY better than DWMirrors, though...
Yes, VERY underappreciated, but LISTEN TO IT!!!
If I hadn't known it wasn't Perry & Whitford I wouldn't have noticed!!!(And I've always had a great ear!)
Jimmy Crespo & Rick Dufay did an awesome job. Maybe guitar playin' a-la-Aero is not that special after all, or they were really good.
All of the songs are top-notch (maybe a little lower is Joanie's , but that was just Joe's abscence-he would have told Steven off and to stick it up his , you know...)
I especially like "Push comes to Shove"...
Wonderful production (Hey, a million bucks in '81!!!WITH "gardening supplies" included)
I myself, poo-pooed this when it came out since it wasn't the "real" thing, but I got it a few months ago and enjoyed it inmensely. It was a revelation!
Here's the thing -there are 2 different Aeros-the ones on "gardening supplies" and the "clean" ones after 1986 (clean , my a**, they are SMOKERS!!!! at least I saw Joe puffin' away- come on guys, give me a break , either all or nothing, OK?)
So, you're gonna LOVE this if you are into the 1st Aero, NOT a lot if you like all the post-1986 stuff...
Yes, their "grittiness" and "rawness" was very much exposed in this LP(along with their best production until then-even better than DWM), but that's the charm , babes...playin' what you feel like playin' with NOBODY from your Record/We own your life(image-output...et al)Company to tell you what to do!!!
I rate this only second to "Draw the line", my all time favorite.

5 out of 5 stars Early Aerosmith!.......2006-06-25

Solid early work. I got the cd for "Lightning", but the rest of the cd is solid rock'n roll.

4 out of 5 stars Even without Joe Perry, still a great album!.......2006-04-16

I think this album is very underrated. I'm a long time Aerosmith fan and JailBate and Lightning Strikes are 2 of my favorite songs. The album starts out strong. It rocks to the end. This entourage gets it done in the absence of Joe, though glad he came back!

5 out of 5 stars GREAT ROCK ALBUM!.......2001-03-06

This is probably my favorite Bloodgood album. Features the great songs "The Presence", She's Gone", "The World(keeps movin' around)", "What have I done?", and the classic "Seven". The sonics on this album are the only problem but are easily overlooked here as this album is full of inspiration for everyone. Wish this band was back together again but I am greatful for the songs they have given us. Thanks Mike,Les, and all the rest of the band!

5 out of 5 stars Incredible Christian rock!.......2000-05-25

I remember when these two cd's came out originally. RIAHP was a milestone in Christian rock, and still sounds great ten years later! OOTD was another great one, with the incredible drum solo that starts it to the last note on the last song, it's an all-in-all great cd. Combine the two, and you have a can't-miss deal that is sure to stay in your player for a long time to come!

5 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING!.......2000-03-22

Two of the best Christian rock albums ever recorded. It would be great to see the band stage a reunion with the original members.
