The buzz for Nelly Furtado's Loose began before the music was even recorded, with the announcement that legendary hip-hop knob-twirler Timbaland (Missy Elliott, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake) would act as co-producer. The question on fans' minds: what would it sound like when a hip-hop kingpin collaborated with an artist who culls inspiration not just from pop music, but also her own Portuguese roots?
As it turns out, Loose incorporates a number of different styles along its journey, but is--surprisingly--primarily divided between '80s-influenced electronica and latin-infused pop. This disc is very different from Furtado's previous CDs, a fact immediately evident from track one, the new wave-affected "Afraid." A strong opener, the song is the beginning of a 1-2-3 punch of uptempo, infectious dance floor beats. The second cut, "Maneater," also proves to be incredibly catchy, but the verses and keyboard sound too much like they were plucked from electroclash artist Peaches' tree, and originality is lost. The perfect summer pop song follows, the massive hit "Promiscuous," which features clever interplay between Furtado and Timbaland on their sassy duet. From that point, Loose oscillates between the Miami-affected sounds of R&B, Latino pop, and reggaeton ("Showtime," "Te Busque," and "No Hay Igual" respectively) and the aforementioned '80s vibe ("Glow," "Do It"). Fans will hear Furtado at her vocal best on "Say It Right" and "In God's Hands"--two of the most lyrically compelling tracks on the disc. --Denise Sheppard
Album Description
In preparation for her new album, Loose, NELLY FURTADO tried out collaborations with a who's who of producers, and she tried to create a music more of the body than the mind. A prime example of the latter is first single "PROMISCUOUS," a duet with Loose producer TIMBALAND, known far and wide for his groundbreaking work with, among others, MISSY ELLIOTT, JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE and AALIYAH.
It stands to reason that gold and multiplatinum certifications (for 2003's Folklore and 2000's Whoa, Nelly!, respectively), a pair of Top 10 singles ("I'm Like a Bird" and "Turn Off the Light"), and a Grammy Award (for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance), to name just a few accomplishments, would afford a certain level of confidence. But nothing has inspired Furtado to throw caution to the wind more than motherhood. "Motherhood makes you fearless," she says. "The album is very youthful-sounding," Furtado continues, "and I think that's partly due to the presence of this two-year-old in my life. I was with her all day every day and then I'd go to the studio at night, and I think that translated into a playful energy I feel onstage but that hasn't really been heard on my records."
Starting with her longtime production team of Track & Field, she also knew she wanted to check out a variety of producers. "Working with new producers," she hazards, "is like trying on new clothes - you never know what you look good in until you try it on. And sometimes they will see something in you that neither you nor anyone else could see." So she traveled with her daughter from Toronto to London to work with NELLEE HOOPER; to Los Angeles to work with LESTER MENDEZ (who produced, "Te Busque," her moving duet with JUANES) and RICK NOWELS (co-writer and producer of the gorgeous ballad "In God's Hands"); and to Miami to work with PHARRELL WILLIAMS and SCOTT STORCH and finally, TIMBALAND.
Indeed, the raw, lighting-in-a-bottle spontaneity of the collaborative process is at the heart of Loose. "This record shows who I am in a jam-type environment, where I really feel the excitement of the creativity flowing," Furtado reveals. "It's who I am at my most artistic. I live for that, and I'm very grateful to be able to share it."

All around Fun.......2007-07-17
This cd is perfect to let loose to. Put this on when you're getting ready for a night of fun and partying, or when you're looking to make a boring household chore like washing the dishes a little more bearable.
dissapointing.......2007-07-12
The cd cover of mine came broke. I'm a tad upset about it but it's not bad enough to ask for a refund.
good cd though
Very Happy with my Purchase.......2007-06-27
I really have enjoy this cd thank you for getting it to me so quickly
I really like it........2007-06-20
I have a couple of friends I frequently ride around with, and unfortunately for me they are big into R&B, rap, and hip-hop which I'm not particularly fond of personally. But they like to crank their music in the car and I'm forced to grin and bear it.
Then one day "Promiscuous" started up and I realized I actually quite liked it. I'm big into 80s music, and the chorus has that 80s synth sound to it which caught my attention.
I own Nelly's first CD, and I enjoy it still, but I, like some other reviewers, had kind of lost interest in her with her change in "image" and turn toward hip-hop. So when I realized I liked one of her new songs I blindly went out and bought the new CD. I popped it in the car player and listened to it all the way home. It has remained in my player since.
I've come to the realization that if I keep turning my nose up at things, I'm gonna miss out on some good music. This CD is very good. Obvious favorites are the singles "Promiscuous" and "Say It Right", but the real jewels for me are "Te Busque" "Afraid" "In God's Hands" and "All Good Things". They are Lyrically beautiful as well as just being plain good.
I seriously recommend anyone with reservations to give it a listen all the way through before rushing to judge.

I'm rather new to Nelly Furtado music. I've heard songs on the radio, but this is the first CD. Other than a couple songs that aren't my type, little too hip hop, it's a really nice CD. She has a fantastic voice!

Album Description
Import only compilation from one of the top British Urban/dance acts of the early '80s. This trio (Carl McIntosh, Jane Eugene and Steve Nichol) began life as Loose End, but changed their name to Loose Ends right before fame came knocking on their door when they hit paydirt with the 'Hangin' On A String' single in 1985. Their hit streak continued up through the end of the decade with tracks like 'Golden Years', 'Slow Down', 'Watching You' and others. The group did continue in the early '90s, but only after Eugene and Nichol had been replaced and the magic had all but disappeared. 15 tracks. EMI.

Customer Reviews:
I loved this group........2007-01-04
Loose Ends was a group that is easily likened to Incognito, The Brand New Heavies and Soul II Soul. If you like any of those UK Funk bands, you will definitely enjoy the best of what Loose Ends had to offer.
Dont be a fool.......2006-10-22
Back in the day I use to love Loose Ends. This album has everything that a fan could want in a best of album. Its enhanced sound quality alone makes this album a must have for any fan of loose ends.
Forget Soul II Soul, these are the ORIGINAL innovators of UK Soul.......2006-08-08
Loose Ends are the most underrated band on the planet- point blank. Those of you who think that Soul II Soul were innovators of UK Soul, think again- they popularised it. Loose Ends opened the door for them and unfortunately are seldom given the respect for it. Carl McIntosh paved the way for the likes of Jazzie B in terms of production, producing a sound that would become distinctive. The other members, Jane Eugene and Steve Nichol would be the final jigsaw of the piece. This greatest hits gives an honest and ideal overview of their career. From the classic 'Hangin' On A String (Contemplating)' to the brilliant 'Stay A Little While, Child' to the simple but enjoyable 'Slow Down'. From the Prince-like 'Tell Me What You Want' to the trip-hoppping 'Don't Be A Fool.' From their excellent and innovative take of the David Bowie classic 'Golden Years' to the James Brown 'Funky Drummer' breakbeat sampling 'Love's Got Me' this collection is an essential purchase for, either, anyone who is getting into this talented band or those who miss the wonderful music they gave us for 7 years.
This Is What I'm Talking About!!!.......2006-06-16
"Loose Ends" has to be one of my favorite groups from the 1980s. Some of their songs were formulaic, but it worked thanks to good production and clever instrument arrangements. The only negative about this greatest hits CD is that "You Can't Stop The Rain" isn't on it. I would download the song and buy this CD.
Blast from the 80's Past.......2006-03-08
I have a cassette from Loose Ends - the girl in the group had a beautiful voice if you listen to the tracks where she did lead vocal. This is another UK band, like Five Starr, that worked the U.S. music scene, but, never made it to superstar status. This band must have "disbanded" around the late 80's, early 90's, cause I never heard of them again after the early 90's - about the time "gangsta rap" started to take over the music scene.

Live Bonus Disc Creates Hype! Does It Live Up To It?.......2007-04-08
This 2 disc Tour Edition comes in a cardboard cover with the same artwork as the regular album version. The songs in the first disc have an added track titled "Somebody To Love" (International Bonus Track) while the bonus disc has an array of non-album tracks and live versions very enjoyable and worthwhile. Since many who are viewing this page are interested in the bonus disc I will gear my review on that. All in all, the album accompanied by the mellow sounding bonus disc is refreshing. Not quite dance oriented yet pleasant to just sit back and take pleasure in.
Let My Hair Down is a mellow pop sounding song with Nelly singing in a very deep pitch along some bass, chorus, and vast instrumentation. The song repeatedly mentions, "I'm going to let my hair down.... Tell me something that will make me want to jump around." Overall, this is a song with sensual over tones vs. dance or highly energetic beats like her other hits.
Undercover is a non-album track that has a similar tempo as the previous song yet a few notches faster. The beats carry a very agreeable style with much mystery in lyrical quality, as the object of affection is somewhat unattainable.
Runaway has a mellow type sound with the melody taking slower guitar chords, and fewer pounds and little if any bass. This does not sound like any of her popular hits or non-album tracks. "In God's Hands" has some similarity in the depth with much meaning yet not uplifting to dance to or feel revitalized. Some lyrics, "You're an angel that sings to me." Her voice has a deep sound like her first album at some points.
Te Busque (Spanish Version) featuring Juanes is quite pleasing to hear for die-hard fans. This is nearly the same song found on the album so I don't see why it was added. Not a huge fan of Juanes I find myself skipping this track.
No Hay Igual featuring Calle 13 has phenomenal rhythm and fast paced beats that if would have been toned down a few notches could have been a much better track. The lyrics are not your typical moral standards as they reflect much loose talk and some profanity.
All Good Things (Come To An And) featuring Rea Garvey from Raemonn sounds very good like her single and album version. The difference is not considerably notable enough. Overall, I found it mellow, pleasant in sound, and very good.
Crazy (Live From Radio 1 Lounge Session) is the cover song of Gnarls Barkley. This is heard on some of her singles. Her vocals are very nice along the guitar and other background singer. The live sound makes her singing and instruments sound much distinct bringing the message behind the song much stronger and much more expressive. This was excellent and highly recommendable for those who have not bought the singles.
Maneater (Live from Sprint Music Series) is unlike any version of Maneater I've ever heard. The melody is unquestionably heard nicely along Nelly's singing. Although, she sounds a bit out of breath occasionally her overall performance is extraordinary to say the least. She is never off key. This is one of my favorite Nelly songs so I can say it was a good track vastly different from the original, album, and singles. It has a more "out there" raw type sounds!
Promiscuous (Live @ The Orange Lounge) featuring Saukrates is slightly different in sound from the ones on the singles and album. The male accompaniments in the background make this sticky, infectious, and even sensual. Although, Timbaland is not heard like the other version Saukrates does a great job in giving it his own unique spin.
Overall, Nelly die-hard fans will find this to their satisfaction. Casual listeners may want to check out the regular album version first or hear some samples. To many, a dance mix bonus CD would have been much more appealing but the live versions were definitely worthwhile and pleasurable.
Best Album Of 2006.......2007-03-31
Wow, how ironoic. Like the other reviewer, i also bought my album at Zellers. I had no idea that it was selling for over $30 on here. I don't plan on opening the album yet. Thanks for letting me know what it looks like! Nelly will be in Toronto for her concert on April 4th, and i'm gonna try and get it autographed. I'll open it up when i get there. Just a quick note, all of the "bonus" tracks have been leaked onto the internet for a long time. Probably since her album first leaked. I heard all of these songs and loved them, but i still decided to buy the album. Honestly, this is the best album of 2006. The lyrics in the songs, the production, and even the way she controls her voice. Nelly has significantly grown as an artist. She teamed up with THE best hip hop producer, Timbaland, and together they made some of the best "alternative" music. Seriously, i don't know exactly which genre to put the album in. Some songs are hip hop, others folk, some pop, and there's even some spanish. You can put the album on and play it track by track. If you are tempted to skip a song, wait, stop, give it a chance, listen to the whole song. When i first heard some of the songs on the album, i hated them right from the start. Then one day i decided to just listen to them all, and guess what, i like 'em all. Say it right is my favourite song on the album, as is All Good Things, and Showtime. Those songs are all very different. I hope (I really, really, really, really, really hope) that Nelly releases Showtime as a single. I really want to see a video for that. I don't know when it happened, but sometime after her last album, Nelly developed an incredible fashion sense. Along with that, she has hired AMAZING directors who capture the essence of each of her songs. The video for All Good Things Come To An End completely fits with the songs. Yes, i know the video makes no sense, but neither does the song! Come on now, dogs whisteling?! lol. But the video was beautifully shot and created a serene vibe. As with the video for Say it Right. It was a very simple video. It had a simple concept. Few sets. Like 3 extras. A bunch of closeup shots. Light synchronized with the lyrics. The video was still very beautiful. I recommend everyone buy this album. The price of $30 is a little steep, but if you can find it cheaper, definetly grab it. It was a fluke i saw it. I was buying dog food and walked buy the cd racks. I had no idea the album came out yet. The second i saw it, i knew i had to support this great artist.

Great.......2007-03-27
First off im not a kid, I just dont have an account.
Second off I did not pay 33.99 for this cd, I got it for 13.99 at zellers.
Yes, the special edition at zellers for 13.99.
And the cd is not in a blue case, the cd is in a slip in case, which is the blue one. But when you slip the cd out of the cover its the normal red one.
Ok well heres my review.
I was never to fond of Nelly until I heard Maneater. Even though I own both of her past disks. I never really liked her first cd 2 much, and I really disliked the 2nd. But then something happend to our Nelly. She came back with this never before heard sound. I bought Loose the same day I heard Maneater. I loved the cd alot.
Anyways I was walking through the cd section at Zellers when I saw this disk. I looked at the price. 13.99. I really didn't even think about it for a second. I tokk 1 look at the back, and next thing I knew I was at the checkout. This re-made version of Loose contains 4 new songs.
-Let my hair donw
-Somebody to love
-Undercover
-Runaway
And 2 remixes
-All good things
-No Hay Igual
And 3 live songs.
-Crazy (a slower version, but does it better then Knarles Barkley)
-Maneater
-Promiscuous
Overall Im very glad to have bought this disk. I wouldn't pay 33 bucks for it, but if you ever come across it in a store for cheaper. Pick it up. Cause its Limited Edition.
Anyways, I love the disk, Love the bonus songs and remixes.
Live songs are great. So my review is 4.5/5.
And it deserves it!

A great album - if only for side two.......2007-03-30
This is a very unusual album in that the first half is run-of-the-mill rock'n'roll from the mid-70s, while the second side may be the single best album side ever recorded. Passing lightly over the first side we note that the Top 40 hits "Hot Legs" and "Born Loose", while decent tunes aren't anything different from much that was being turned out by other artists during this time.
The second side, though, seems to have been done by another person and band entirely. One is tempted to ask, "OK, where is the real the Rod Stewart", but maybe this is the "real" Rod Stewart. In tunes that, lyrically, harken back to the days of "Gasoline Alley" and "Maggie May" Rod pulls the emotional stops out to the limit. He covers two great Motown hits, "You Keep Me Hanging On" and "(if loving you is wrong) I Don't Want to be Right". The third song, "You Got a Nerve" delves into his relationship, which was breaking up at the time, with the actress Britt Ecklund and shows a very private side of a man who was notorious for his sexual antics (actual and rumored) and gives us a hint of how much this particular love affair mattered to him.
It's on the fourth and last tune that everything gets left on the stage. "I Was Only Joking" talks about a young man who, though he tries to hide behind a facade of devil-may-care worldliness, is, at heart a romantic. One of the things that really brings this song to life is the incredible guitar solo that constitutes about a minute and a half of the six minute song. It is, hands down, in my opinion, the single best guitar solo ever put on record. The guitarist, whose name I don't know, runs the gamut from an acoustic-like introduction played with a light touch and definite grace, to a blistering intricate heavy electric sound, to a quiet ending that blends back into Rod's vocals that end the tune. I find myself listening to this song at least three or four times every time I listen to this album and almost always I find something that I hadn't noticed before somewhere in the mix.
In truth, I tend to listen to the second side of this album repeatedly. The instrumentation and musicianship of the backup band is worthy of admiration and emulation. It's the sort of thing that one hears very little of in this age of electronica, rap, and hip-hop. I'm afraid that sampling other's works and mixing them into short pieces, while perhaps technically challenging, can't begin to match the nearly supernatural things that can go on between living musicians either in the studio, as here, or live as, say, on Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young's "4 Way Street". More's the pity as we've raised a generation of children who are musically illiterate as a result of the emphasis that has been placed on hip-hop and rap over the past twenty or so years. While there are still some very talented new musicians and bands, such as Wilco, out there even those are made up of people in their late-twenties to early thirties who have spent their lives learning to play music, not just speak in iambic pentameter. I'm concerned that this type of music, which requires real artistry and skill to play and compose, will go the way of classical music and become a niche market. Will we someday see bands who devote themselves to note-for-note interpretations of the music of the late-60s to mid-70s, playing before concert halls of hushed patrons who will then discuss the nuances of the guitarist's rendition of Robby Krieger's solo from The Doors "Light My Fire"? I hope not, but then, at least the music would survive long enough to perhaps speak to subsequent generations with the eloquence that it spoke to mine.
Classic late 70s Rod.......2006-11-28
Blondes Have More Fun sold better but this is a much more thoughtful album. Rod fans pretty much agree (and we don't agree much anymore) that this one is one CD that the critics really missed. The three hit singles are part of the Rod legend (Your in My heart, Hot legs, I was Only Joking) and it was this 3 milliion seller that introduced Rod's music to a lot of his longtime fans. Born Loose is a blistering album track that proves Rod still rocked as hard as he did in the early part of the 70s. "You're Insane" is lyrically weak but has a great groove, and You Got a Nerve is a great Rod written ballad that doesn; t really sound like anything he's done before or since. I would recommend this CD to anyone who is even remotely interested in Rod Stewart.
Film Focus (The non score music edition).......2006-08-21
This is not the typical Rod Stewart album. Sure Hot Legs and You're in my Heart are but for the most part a deeper Rod lies beneath the lyrics of this cd. From the haunting intro of You Keep Me Hangin On, to the parting line of I was only Joking, there seems to be a message of loss and betrayal. Maybe others don't see that bur I sure felt it the first time I heard You've Got a Nerve. Sure it may have hit home because I was coming out of a relationship but I believe that a message was being sent here. Whether it was aimed at an individual or at relationships in general, well you would have to ask rod himself. But I think it is a great album to listen to after a break-up or remembering one.
One of Rod's top 3 albums.......2006-06-05
I discovered this album in my brother's record collection when I was five and its been one of my favorites ever since. "Hot Legs" is a great song with an infectious groove, "I Was Only Joking" is the perfect song when you turn 30 (or 40, etc.) and you reflect on where you've been and where you're going. Have you ever been head over heels for someone who completely broke your heart then tried to come back into your life once you had found happiness with someone else? Then you absolutely must hear "You've Got A Nerve". And I don't care what anyone else says on other reviews, but "You Keep Me Hanging On" is the way the song is supposed to be sung. Granted it was the first version I heard of the song, but when I heard the original version it seemed too happy for the song's subject matter. I really feel that it's the best version I've heard. I highly recommend this album, spend the $9.98 - you won't be disappointed.
No Joking,This Is A Great Album!.......2005-04-14
Honestly this is the only Rod Stewart album I've ever heard so other then his other radio hits I have nothing else to go by here. But from what I heard 'Foot Loose & Fancy Free' has to be one of Stewart's better albums, especially from a guy I hear made so many lousy ones.I've known of "Hot Legs" for years-a rauncy Stone-ish rocker that's great classic rock.My favorite song on the album is "Your Insane" a deeply grooving funk number that proves,if disco never emmerged Rod Stewart could've made a terrific funk album like the Rolling Stones did."Your In My Heart" and "(If Love Is Wrong) I Don't Want To Be Right" are nice folky ballads with great gentle vocalising by Rod.Nothing on this album is okay or fair even but the most compelling cut by far is Stewart's mesmerizing version of "You Keep Me Hanging On"-he utterly removes any cuetsy qualities the original may have had and focuses on the passion of the lyric and making the music back it up-it's the albums best song and a brilliant addition to Rod Stewart's catolog.Rod Stewart has always made musically diverse albums but he tended to have a certain formula too.On this one it's clear he's still locked into his best period as a solo artist that started at the beginning of the 70's and that he would loose in th next decade. But here Rod was fireing on all cylinders!'Foot Loose & Fancy Free' is the kind of CD you'd play in your car stereo, preferabely a convertible on a hot summer drive with the wind going through your hair-it's upbeat, clever rock and pop balladry that actually I found a great introduction to Stewarts music and maybe you will too.

The second album by this Wilco side project has a nicely resilient band quality to it. Originally seen as Jeff Tweedy's noisier outlet, it's arguably as tuneful as his main band's most recent releases. A trio with Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche and producer/utility player/solo artist Jim O'Rourke, most of the songs are clearly the result of group interplay. However, it's the finishing touches, from arrangement flourishes to lyrics, that make them rise about hipster jamming. And just when you thought every cool guitar riff has already been discovered, the set starts off with a bang as "Hey Chicken" lets loose with a dazzler. There follows everything from an easy country groove ("The Ruling Class") to power pop ("Stupid As the Sun") and beautifully fragile balladry ("Answers to Your Questions"), to plenty more smart and mammoth guitar sounds. --David Greenberger
Customer Reviews:
I Liked It Better than the Most Recent Wilco CD.......2007-06-12
I hate to say it, but I was disappointed in the last Wilco CD, "Sky Blue Sky." I found it much too laid back for the band that did "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot." Thankfully, an amazon reviewer turned me on to Loose Fur, which is fronted by Wilco lead singer and songwriter Jeff Tweedy. I was hoping "Sky Blue Sky" would be what this album is: 37 minutes of sometimes loud, always thoughtful rock music. That's not to say that all the tracks on "Born Again in the USA" (which is a loose concept album on American religion) is, like the first track "Hey Chicken," full of distorted guitars. Jim O'Rourke's tunes are mostly acoustic and soft-spoken, but they complement Tweedy's louder tracks. The first song, Tweedy's energetic "Hey Chicken" (with the line, "I'm living rent free, in the back of your head") knocked me out in a way good rock should. Tweedy might be getting a bit tired with Wilco, which has been putting out albums for 12 years now. But if he keeps making albums like "Born Again" with Loose Fur, that's not such a bad thing. The band is a tight, crack unit, and they also have a sense of humor (most prominently featured on O'Rourke's "Thou Shalt Wilt"). Now that I've found out about them, I look forward to buying their 2003 album.
Great pop.......2007-05-17
***1/2 - I really hesitated picking this up after being so disappointed in A Ghost is Born, but I'm glad I did. Most of the songs come in at around 3 minutes, which is part of their charm. This is good, fun, breezy pop rock. And given the material, I don't even mind O'Rourke's voice all that much. Somehow it fits on "Answers to Your Questions", which offers a nice slower tempo song amidst the lighter tunes around it.
The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is because of "Wreckroom", which features great 70s style guitar work but is eventually marred by the irritating wall of noise guitar style that, for me, ruined much of Ghost. Take that out and lop off the last 4 minutes of the song, and it would be my favorite song on the CD.
Get your Tweedy fix.......2006-10-08
I've been a Wilco fan for years, and love everything Wilco related. But no side projection/incarnation has captivated me the way the Loose Fur project has. The Tweedy/O'Rourke combination is unmatched in indy rock today, in my opinion. In a time when any yahoo can make a record in their bedroom with plug-ins and the like, the Loose Fur records are minimal-production marvels that allow the songs to speak for themselves. And they are amazing songs. In many ways (and I expect a ton of flack for this), better than some of the recent Wilco stuff.
Good at First, But Fades Over Time.......2006-08-17
I've been listening to this album since it leaked onto the internet several months prior to its release. At first, I thought it was incredible. As times passed, however, I found myself listening less and less. Now I still come back to the standouts (mostly Tweedy's tracks) but I don't find myself desiring to hear the full album when I sit down to listen. It's still good and songs like "Hey Chicken" and "Thou Shalt Wilt" will knock your socks off.
Good follow up.......2006-08-15
Songs like "Hey Chicken" deserve to be released as singles. If you are a Wilco fan from Ghost is Born, you will find this an interesting listenable CD. I wish they would cut out a minute of noise here and there, but this overall is a very enjoyable CD for anyone jonsing for some new Tweedy/O'Rourke stuff.

Excelent Performance.......2007-01-10
What can I say about Bach played by LAGQ but The Perfect Combination. The only thing reprochable is that some tracks like the "Loose" Cannon by Pachelbel ends in fade out instead of a real ending. I wish this was a two CD set.
For Thy Pleasure: Yeap, It is Very Enjoyable .......2006-10-25
For the first time, I listened to LAGQ from Vermont Public Radio while I came back home. After listening to "Little Fugue In G Minor", I could not get it out of my mind. I like the original version of Bach's organ music but the LAGQ version gave me a different feeling of music: True melancholy.
Buying the cd gave me a lot of joyful time. All the music in the cd were excellent. I believe there are a lot of musicians who are techically perfect but only a few of them can give me this kind of pleasure. All the music are beautiful and graceful. On top of that all of them are absolutely enjoyable.
Please try the last track, "Canon In D: The Pachelbel 'Loose' Cannon" when you are blue.
Amazing Guitars...And Then Some!.......2006-10-17
As a guitarist(mostly metal, neo-classical, rock, and blues), I have always been seeking that one 'classical' album that is just guitars working out entire orchestrations; no violins, cellos, etc(nothing personal, mind you...). This is that album. From the subtle to the intense, these 4 players work effortlessly together, putting together some faithful and authentic renditions of some familiar(some not so familiar)classical pieces. I was amazed at first just by the blinding technique, but began to appreciate the much more hidden aspects of this CD on multiple listenings. It has inspired me to look into a whole new style of playing. This is a really good starter CD for someone like myself who is just looking for some nice classical guitar ensembles.
Pleasure For Your Musical Soul .......2006-02-22
I listened to this CD three times straight to make sure I heard every outstanding note. The arrangements were superb, and the talent....
This CD is a must for anyone who loves guitar and arrangments that will have you humming in your sleep!!
Just amazing playing!.......2005-05-17
This cd is great, the repertoire isn't played very much, and these four gentlemen play it so well! My personal favorite track on the disc is the "loose" cannon! Just a fun arrangement of one of the most popular classical songs of all time, and it's virtuosic in every way! Another great CD. Enjoy!

Kevin Fowler is the REAL Deal...........2007-03-30
If you enjoy "Real" Country music, look no further...Kevin deserves any success that comes his way....Something a lot of country fans don't know is that Kevin used to be a long haired rocker! He played guitar for a hard rock band from Austin,TX. called Dangerous Toys in the early 90's...I got to see them live Halloween night 1993 at Austin's legendary (now defunct) Back Room. After Dangerous Toys, Kevin formed his own Southern Hard Rock band called Hellhounds, which later changed to Thunderfoot. They released 1 cd called Southern Discomfort (if you like Southern rock, look for it, it's out of print and hard to find, but worth the trouble!).

Real McCoy honky tonk . . ........2005-01-01
If you like country that's grittier than what comes out of Nashville, you'll get a big kick out of singer and songwriter Kevin Fowler. He sings about hard work, hard drinking, and hard luck with women, and makes no apologies for being politically incorrect about everything else. The opening song, "Loose, Loud & Crazy," is a Friday night, tear-it-up anthem and sets the tone for the whole CD.
"Get Along" declares the end of a bad romance; then "Hard Man to Love" turns around and professes soulful gratitude for a long-suffering woman. A heart-on-the-sleeve tearjerker, "I'll Try Anything Twice," confesses a hopeless obsession for a long-gone sweetheart. There's also a series of drinking songs celebrating long necks and good times. And the two themes of love and drink converge in "Triple Crown" where it's belly up to the bar again for a broken heart.
The rough, good-ole-boy sensibility in these songs ends the CD with a sly crowd-pleaser, "Don't Touch My Willie," recorded live at Coupland Dancehall in Coupland, Texas. Its allusions to Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, and George Jones show this singer squarely in the country tradition. If you like honky tonk, this is the real thing. (Also recommended: Ed Burleson, Aaron Watson, and Moot Davis.)
Good, old-fashioned Texas drinking music.......2004-12-31
Rough-edged and fully steeped in the independent spirit of Texas outlaw country, songwriter Kevin Fowler (whose "Beer, Bait & Ammo" has become a modern day comedic country anthem) makes the leap from microscopic Lone Star labels to a maverick would-be major. Kudos to Clint Black for signing Fowler up on his newly-launched Equity label, and for giving raw-boned, goofball novelty honkytonk a new place in today's super-sanitized Country charts... Having heard Fowler's last couple of albums, I was psyched and more than a little surprised to see him popping up on the Billboard Top 40... But imagine how much more surprised I was to get the album and hear that Fowler hadn't changed a thing about his sound... No slick keyboards or chessy power ballads here, just a fine, fun set of dopey drinking songs and love-a-loser lyrics. If anything, he might be trying a little too hard to be hard-country and "outlaw," but hey, I ain't complaining. I'm just glad to hear some real twang coming out of Nashville. If you like George Strait, Waylon Jennings or Ed Burleson, you're gonna love Kevin Fowler.
Honk Tonk Lives.......2004-11-20
Kevin never lets me down and his new cd Loose, Loud & Crazy is right on the money His song are stright to the point with no sappy, sweet or gooey lyrics. With this cd you get a good mix of Honky Tonkin, Drinking etc.
The tounge in cheek humor of "Don't Touch My Willie" (as in Willie Nelson) should make you grin. Other cuts that shine are his duet with Mark Chesnutt who lends his vocals to "Political Incorrectness" To bad Nashville is more intrested just selling hugh numbers with their cookie cutters. Instead of an artist of this calaber.

NOW THIS IS THE LOOSE ENDS I WAS WAITING TO HEAR!!!!.......2007-02-02
i agree with the reviwer who said this was their funkiest album. i had to listen to it a second time because the first time i was half sleep. when i listened to it again, my two left feet were moving like i knew how to dance. it is a bit long, but hey, i enjoyed every extracaricular moment of it. i love the other albums too, but when i think of them, i think about the HANGING ON A STRINGs and the SLOW DOWNs, which makes me wanna hear an album such as this one, so there!!!!
Outstanding .......2006-07-10
The Real Chuckeeboo is an outstanding album. Loose Ends did a tremendous job with their last album as a trio. The Real Chuckeeboo has a sound that is unique to this very day. I recently had a musical debate with a friend of mine about the contributions of Loose Ends. She felt they were not that important. I strongly disagree! No group had such a distinct sound and also have a sound evolve from album to album. The song "Mr. Bachelor" has a sound that is unmatched. It is very unique long with "Watching You" which are both banging! The entire album is outstanding. People have a bad habit to equate commercial success with musical talent. That is not always true. Loose Ends was not a big commercial smash but they were very talented and had an underground following that is faithful to the end. I have a question to all the Loose Ends fans out there. Why did the group split up? What happened to Jane and Steve? I heard a rumor that Loose Ends is going to tour the US again. I hope that rumor is true. I would love to see them live! It would be great to see
Soul II Soul, The Brand New Heavies and Loose Ends on tour together! What a show! The Real Chuckeeboo is one of my favorite albums of all time and without a doubt Loose Ends is my favorite group. I give this album my highest possible grade! A+! Get it while you can! I searched for over ten years trying to find the album in CD format. I am very grateful it has been re released! Too all the die hard Loose Ends fans. " Everybody Get Righteous!"
Thanks For Making This Classic Available...........2006-05-11
...But Virgin Records forgot to include the song 'Magic Eyes', which was track #10 on the original CD from 1988. As for the music, I agree with all of the previous reviews, but this version of 'The Real Chuckeeboo' claims to have included 3 Bonus Tracks, and I only found 2...'Too Much' & 'Johnny Broadhead (pt.2)'. Failure to include 'Magic Eyes', and a 3rd Bonus Track (as claimed!) cost this CD a star!! Other than the mistake(s) by Virgin Records, I recommend this CD to fans of Loose Ends, and everyone is urged to buy it asap before it becomes out of print AGAIN!
For the COMPLETE 'Real Chuckeeboo' CD (now over 78 Minutes!), I decided to remaster the disc & add 'Magic Eyes' PLUS a Remix of 'Watching You' (from the 'Tighten Up, Vol.1' Collection). As for Loose Ends, I hope that Steve, Jane, and Carl can reunite in the future....they are missed BIG TIME!
Peace, SD
(of 'Chaka's World')
At this point I'd get a greatest hits collection.......2005-12-05
This is fantastic Brit-Soul. My favorite songs on this album ar "Watching you" and "Mr. Bachelor". However I was dissapoitned how "Mr. Bachelor" isn't an individual cut on the album, but rather a part of a medley.
At the same time, unless you are a die-hard Loose Ends fan, I say go for a greatest hits compilation instead of this album. There's nothing on this CD that you can't get in a greatest hits collection. I recommend "The Best of Loose Ends" import CD as it includes all of Loose Ends most notable material.
Their funkiest album!!!! .......2005-03-29
I thought that Loose Ends really topped themselves with this album! Their funkiest one to date, as Watching You just kicks the album off with a bang with its heavy beats! There's No Gratitude continues the funk vibe, before the three song The Real Chuckeeboo suite that includes the funky Mr. Bachelor in the middle! One other song I like is Life, which has such a driving groove within it. This was the last album with the original lineup, but they definitely showed their best on this album and kicked up the funk a notch! Carl McIntosh just had the funk in him on this album, before continuing with other members on the next album in '90. This album was just as funky as Bobby Brown's album in the same year of 1988! Musical, melodic, beat heavy and funky at the same time too!

As supergroups go, this one--featuring Jeff Tweedy, Jim O'Rourke, and Glenn Kotche--is almost as good as Rockpile, on par with Blind Faith, and a whole lot better than Ciccone Youth. It's also a project that makes sonic sense, in a twain-shall-meet way. Wunderkind experimental guitarist-producer O'Rourke has been creating warped Americana since the late '90s, while on 2002's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Tweedy and company finely deconstructed the alt-country rock they'd worked so hard to create in the first place. The two major problems that afflict projects of this sort--overindulgent twaddle and ill-suited explorations--surface here, but they only hold sway over a third of the album. The tunes that work the best are the Tweedy-fronted ones, especially "Laminated Cat" and "Chinese Apple," both of which are seven-plus minutes of gorgeously subtle guitar, weird background noises, poly-limbed percussion, and oblique lyrics delivered by a melodic-minded mumble mouth. --Mike McGonigal

okay..im a fussy bugger..most so called great bands of the last 30 years, simply bore me stupid...but wilco are the one exception,i love all their albums in a major way..the same way i love dylan and neil young..i also highy recommend most of the jim orourke albums..insignificence and eureka and bad timing are lost masterpeices..but The LOOSE FUR album is simply a total masterpeice..in 20 years it will be one of those BURIED TREASURES, that magazines like mojo will be writing about..as great as yankee foxtrot..and some of tweedy,s best songs...buy this reocrd
Ghost is Born came from this.......2006-08-09
Ghost is Born would not have happened if Loose Fur didn't exist. Bottom Line. And that makes it a must-have!
If you love Wilco..........2006-03-22
AND you love the Thrill Jockey bands AND you dig noise experimentation a la the Velvet Underground via Sonic Youth,,,you shall be enthralled with this record. It is YHF's wake-n-bake weekend cousin...all strummy and percussion everywhere. Jim O'rourke adds a fine tune and some good vocals, but Tweedy's songs are great and the instrumental passages weave like a snake and seem to never end. The whole thing is very chill, with all of the best elements of a great Tweedy or Wilco or Sea & Cake record rolled up and smoked.....
The lost Wilco album.......2005-10-06
The vocals, songwriting, and guitar of Jeff Tweedy. The drums and percussion of Glen Kotche. And the vocals, guitar, and songwriting of Jim O'Rourke.
That should be review enough. That should tell you: buy this!
If it's not, let me just tell you that if you're a Wilco fan, you've heard Loose Fur before. On "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot." On that Wilco album there's a moment in--I believe it's the song "Poor Places," where Wilco becomes Loose Fur. Jeff Tweedy and Glen Kotche are in both bands, and Jim O'Rourke has produced (and contributed to) two Wilco albums, and it just happened that way.
And, not to insult any other members of Wilco (John, you rock!), but sometimes that three's all you need.
This is a stripped down, more experimental Wilco, with a hearty dose of Jim O'Rourke thrown in. Its jams are about as good as "Spiders (Kidsmoke)" on Wilco's "A Ghost is Born" album, its lyrics are heartfelt and unique ("You were wrong to believe...in me," "If I said I loved you, I was talking to myself.), and it is always interesting and fun to listen to.
The songs include a word-sample from Wilco's "Heavy Metal Drummer," a long shambling chain of lalalalala's reminscent of Bob Dylan's "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid" soundtrack, wild mercury drums that sound as if Kotche just threw his sticks into a clothesdryer and recorded them, and some excellent experimental noise rock.
I highly recommend this to any Wilco fans that were with it enough to make the transition with Wilco from "Summerteeth" to "Yankee Hotel" and from "Yankee Hotel" to "A Ghost is Born." This may take a few listens to get used to, but you may discover it's a classic.
I know I did.
What Would Loose Fur Do?.......2005-08-24
For the record, this is not like Pink Floyd's Meddle, neither sonically nor in quality.
This short album of 6 songs has its moments. There are some very good jams here. Yet there is present a deconstruction of music that has become part of the reorganized Wilco. This record feels like a it's a blood relative to "A Ghost is Born."
"Chinese Apple" and "You Were Wrong" are very good songs. "Laminated Cat" and the instrumental "Liquidation Totale" are challenging songs that grow on you with repeated listening. The former has no real chorus and the latter's percusion-challenged rhythm does a musical freefall towards the end that is taxing to listen to.
The Jim O'Rourke sung "Elegant Transaction" has yet to grow on me and "So Long" is a Tweedy/O'Rourke experiment that has some appeal despite the drop-the-silverware percussion. "Chinese Apple" is also noteworthy because it contains some of the same lyrics as "Heavy Metal Drumer" (from YHF.)
Listen to this one before you buy. I give it three stars because it is too short and too experimental to pay the asking price new.

Any similarities that Queens of the Stone Age may have to Kyuss are probably inevitable--all three members of this group were in Kyuss at one time or another. The intention of this band, however, is not to create Kyuss 2, but to make its own brand of noise. Falling somewhere between Can and Canned Heat, the trio brings an occasional electronic aura to the guitar-based chug of stoner rock. While not as brash and earsplitting as their previous band (singer-guitarist Josh Homme--a Jack Bruce sound-alike--lays back where Kyuss frontman John Garcia would have yelped), these guys have made a debut album that is nevertheless an intriguing, aggressive, trippy aural journey that bows down to no trend. --Janiss Garza
Album Description
Instead of trying to recreate the sound of his former band Kyuss, Josh Homme took a new approach to music. He crafted tight hard rock songs that were heavy on melody & light on vocals. While there is still a lot of fuzz coming from the amplifiers. 1998 debut. Loose Groove Records.

Great Album.......2007-03-31
This is a great album, and it is in fact my favorite Queens of the Stone age album. A great record to listen to when on a roadtrip as all the soungs are great. Super heavy, and a great sound.
Super!
yes yes.......2007-03-04
the debut. rocking. weird. even though nick oliveri is on the back cover he does not play on this album. instead, at the end of the very last track, behind the annoying beeping, is a recorded phone message from oliveri stating his decision to join the band. what a unique idea.
Middle Ground Between QOTSA & Kyuss.......2007-02-08
I am a massive fan of Kyuss, and I want to make it clear that I prefer their best works ("Welcome To Sky Valley" and "And The Circus Leaves Town") to QOTSA's best stuff (and anyone that doesn't know Josh Homme was Kyuss' guitarist and main songwriter should find out about that for their own sake, and this review's sake). That is not to say I don't enjoy QOTSA, they are pretty much single-handedly carrying the stoner rock torch into the realms of popular music. Releases such as "Rated R" and "Songs For The Deaf" are eclectic and sometimes simply outstanding outings into modern rock music. However, the bouncy and poppy aspect of QOTSA, compared to the epic groove jamming of Kyuss, doesn't quite work as well for me. The band doesn't send me to that other place, where I'm engulfed and lost in the music. This was the case until I came across this...
This is the band's debut LP (they started out life with a split EP with Kyuss, the first division of the original members), and it strikes me as the band's best to date. Yes, "Songs For The Deaf" sprawled across genres, sounds and atmospheres. Yes, "Rated R" had some catchy-as-f*%k lush melodies. But I always wanted more from the band. They lacked the groove of Kyuss, lacked that desert vibe, the driving and pummelling riffs...the overwhelming aural trip those albums created. But here, with this underrated and seemingly pushed aside release, the band hit the balance for me, combining elements of Kyuss at their peak, and the best of the QOTSA style.
This is evident with songs such as "Regular John", "If Only" and "Mexicola", my three favourite rocking tracks on the album. These songs encompass both the groove and fuzzy tones of Kyuss with the vocal melodies and catchy hooks of QOTSA. Also, special mention should go to "You Cant Quit Me Baby" which is a masterful ballad with a very eerie and melancholy atmosphere, and one of my favourite QOTSA songs to date.
If you're a fan of QOTSA and don't have this release, it really is worth hunting down. For those Kyuss fans, this is the most logical evolution from the Kyuss sound and will certainly please.
Its those discs that are just a little "ugly" that have the longest playability..........2006-08-11
...and this is one of them. With each disc Queens get better and better culminating with Songs and then they start going down the other side of the mountain. While Rated and Songs are much more polished and really showcase the songwriting and the desert rock vocals, this debut is just "dirty" enough that it maintains a repeated playabilty that the others eventually wear out. With each play this one builds new synapses and maintains an edge and a freshness that the others don't have. In the long run this is the one that will get the most plays.
OH MAN!!!..........2006-07-17
