Album Description

The legendary Fishbone is back in full-effect! With a brand-new studio album coming out in the U.S. in April, the revolutionary ska/punk/reggae/metal rockers are blanketing the globe with their monstrous live presence. Going strong for more than 20 years, Fishbone has continually brought the house down at every live performance. This long awaited studio release is already buzzing around in Europe and has fans throughout the U.S. back in "FISHBONE IS RED HOT" mode.

Combining equal parts of deep funk, high-energy punk, and frantic ska, the Los Angeles-based Fishbone were one of the most distinctive and eclectic alternative rock bands of the late '80s and were spawned from the same circle of bands as Jane's Addiction and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. With their hyperactive, self-conscious diversity, goofy sense of humour, and sharp social commentary, the group have gained a sizeable cult following and have sold out shows across the world. Led by vocalist/saxophonist Angelo Moore, the group formed in 1979 while the band was still in junior high; the original lineup comprised Moore, Chris Dowd, Kendall Jones, Walter Kibby II, and John Norwood Fisher. After performing in local clubs during the early '80s, the group signed with Columbia Records in the mid-'80s, releasing a self-titled EP in 1985. The following year, Fishbone released their first full-length album, In Your Face. From here the band have had a prolific output - with over ten albums since their genesis. They've worked with the likes of Primus and Suicidal Tendencies, showing an eclecticism not seen in the independent scene since Bad Brains. Upbeat and surging with energy, "Still Stuck In Your Throat" crackles with the life of a band possessed. Now reaching over 25 years in the business, Fishbone still sound nothing less than fresh. With an experimental edge to the new recordings, the band have become anything but tired and predictable. And with a sound authentic enough to appeal to fans of The Specials and Sublime (of which, the classic track Date Rape is covered here) but creative and eccentric enough (Party With Saddam?!) to satisfy followers of DC-punk, post-hardcore and jazz, it seems that Fishbone have yet again transcended genre in the name of digression.

4 out of 5 stars Fishbone are back on track!.......2007-07-17

This latest incarnation of Fishbone is amazing, and this is a great 4.5 star album. I was blessed to see the band twice in April this year, and they are still the best live band on the planet! Let the shopping mall record buying public think it's the Peppers.

5 out of 5 stars BEST LIVE BAND IN AMERICAN HISTORY.......2007-05-13

Just when you think that FISHBONE has sailed off into musical oblivion, they hit you in the face with a gem. This albumn represents Fishbone's finest body of work in almost a decade. Production failures prevent this albumn from reaching it's full potential, but the songs cannot be denied by bad mixing. Angelo Moore is at the top of his game as witnessed by an audience that was fortunate enought to catch his performance at the Pearl Room in Mokena IL, on May 11th 2007. The horn section sounded better than it has in a long time and Rocky played ax like a young prodigy with what appeared to be a cast on his picking hand. Norwood (actually seemed sober) kept the bottom heavy and frantic all night. The young guy (dre) is really finding his identity on the keys and bit part voacls. The albumn is good, but if you really want to capture FISHBONE, do yourself a favor and go take in one of America's last authentic treasures. FISHBONE LIVEON STAGE.

5 out of 5 stars Fishbone is BACK!!!.......2007-05-06

If you thought Fishbone was dead, think again! This album is just insane!!! More horns, more craziness than ever! And most of all, the energy is back! This album really captures the band's sound, as if in a live setting. As a long time 'bone fan, I have been waiting a long time for a new studio LP. I figured I'd be disappointed. My expectations were somewhat low. The result: I was just blown away. This album serves as a better follow up to Reality, than Monkey did. go buy it. and go see them live.

3 out of 5 stars Some Songs Shine But The Production Is Inconsistant.......2007-05-05

'Still Stuck In Your Throat'is as musically diverse as any classic Fishbone album however, only a handful of tracks could be considered classic tunes. One gets the feeling that the band were still adjusting and familiarising themselves to the recent personel that is now Fishbone.

It is an album with at least one song for everyone, whether you like the fratic punk metal, soul driven funk or the upbeat happy ska, Fishbone still know how to mix it up like the masters they are. The standout tracks are: 'Behind Closed Doors', 'We Just Lose Our Minds', 'Party With Saddam'and 'Forever Moore' with each and everyone of these pearlers ranking with the best Fishbone songs of the past. Apart from the quality of the songwriting on these tunes, it is the production that makes them shine. A tight and precise clearity within the mix allows all the members to stand out but it is the superb vocals of Angelo Moore and the new supersized horn section that also rates them up with classic tunes from the vast Fishbone back catalogue.

Unfortunately the production of the album is extremely inconsistant and nothing is more obvious to outline this fact when the beautiful rich production of 'Behind Closed Doors' is followed by a limp and mirky 'Premadawnutt'. The latter sounds like a cheap live bootleg demo when it really should have deserved more attention from the engineer. Unlike previous Fishbone albums, the balance of the guitar has been reduced making it one of the weaker Fishbone axe albums. It's a shame because Rocky George is cutting some fine work on the disk it's just the mix makes you have to really work hard to hear his skill. Another downer is the almost after-thought drum sound on about a third of the material on the album. The snare is buried and drummer John Steward is proficent enough behind the kit to also deserve more.

Some of the tracks such as the ragga metal dancehall punk song 'Let Dem Hoes Fight'display a band that hasn't softened or lost potencey in their latter years of playing. Their pursuit of energy and heavy power is still very much present. It's just that the production again takes away from such fine moments.

'Skank 'N Go Nuttz'is an older track revisited, as is 'Premadawnutt' but the energy of past demos or live recordings isn't captured and the guitars lack the bite it did with previous guitarist Spacey.T, mainly because of the lower guitar mix.

Something that Fishbone have never really achieved in the studio through out their 25 year career is their extra explosive live energy that makes them still one of the most exciting and visually stimulating bands to see on stage. This was reinforced after witnessing the band over Easter 2007 and can I tell you the talent and tightness of this current line up just isn't captured on 'Still Still Stuck In Your Throat'. All the songs that sound "alright" on the record came to life on stage. If only they had caught that energy when recording this album!!

Sadly Fishbone's latest album is not the record to bring Fishbone back into the consciousness of a mainstream rock audience like they were back in the late 1980's and early 90's with masterpieces such as 'The Reality Of My Surroundings' however, there is some pure Fishbone magic in and amoungst the songs of 'Still Stuck In Your Throat'.

Q: Does it rate with 'The Reality Of My Surroundings' or 'Give A Monkey A Brain'?

A: No, not really but it would take something absolutely divine to compete with those jems.

Q: Is Fishbone still relevent?

A: Hell yeah! See these brothers live any opportunity you can because the the band hasn't been this tight for more than a decade.

With the positive vibes of the current line up and the way they are gelling together personally and musically, the next release should be spectacular.

5 out of 5 stars Believe it or not...Fishbone's back.......2007-04-26

I just bought the U.S. release of Fishbone's "Still Stuck In Your Throat" a little over two weeks ago. Technically, I've been listening to the album itself for longer than that because I got the import version when it came out (It's exactly the same as the domestic version except for the cover, which I think has been improved). And I still can't believe it - they're back. I mean, they're good like they haven't been since "The Reality of My Surroundings." I've been a fan since "Truth & Soul," and I have bought almost all of their CDs at one point or another, but I've eventually sold back most of the post-"T.R.o.M.S." albums. And for the last several years, each time I buy a new Fishbone disc, I think to myself, "Maybe this one will be a return to form." [...].

So you can say I was skeptical of the hype this album was getting when it was released overseas. I still don't know why it's only just now being released here, but old-school die-hards who were frustrated with "Give a Monkey a Brain and He'll Swear He's the Center of the Universe" and pretty much tuned out after "Chim-Chim's Badass Revenge" are going to be truly shocked by this album. It may not be as good as "T.R.o.M.S.," but it's easily the best thing they've done since. If you're already a die-hard, then you know what to expect. Hard Rock, Punk, Funk, Metal, Ska, Soul, Hip-Hop, Dub-Reggae, Pop, Jazz...you name it, it's here. This is classic Fishbone. And if you've never heard Fishbone before, this is a good place to start. If you like Sublime, No Doubt, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, or bands from way back in the ska-core days (like the Mighty Mighty Bosstones), here's a chance to hear where they all came from. They were all fans and friends of Fishbone, and it's obvious in their music.

[...].[...]. Also, this is one of those albums you have to spend some time with before it gels (kind of like Radiohead's "Kid A," Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland," the Beastie Boys' "Paul's Boutique," or Fishbone's own "T.R.o.M.S."). But once you do, it all falls into place. I've read some critics who even said that parts of the album sounded "groundbreaking," referring in particular to the song "We Just Lose Our Minds," but if you're a long-time fan, you won't be shocked. "W.J.L.O.M." sounds like an Earth Wind & Fire track slowed down, like a record at the wrong speed, until there's a tension underneath the smooth soul (kind of a distant cousin to "Slow Bus Movin'"). For "G.a.M.a.B..." fans, there are metal workouts like "...Nerve Endings," (which sounds like they picked up a trick or two from System of a Down). [...]. And if you've never seen them live, do yourself a favor and go see them as soon as they come to your town. I just caught them on the tour for this album, and this is the best they've been in years. I never thought I'd be able to say this again, but it's a good time to be a Fishbone soldier.

Cheap Trick's second album (and second of '77!) doesn't exactly pick up where its classic, hard-edged debut left off; it was the "Power" and this is the "Pop." Their workaholic gigs as an unsigned Midwest bar band in the mid-'70s left them with an impressive backlog of original material, another batch of which forms the core of In Color. Though the band disdained producer Tom Werman's bubblegum-flavored touches, it was indeed the kinder, gentler Cheap Trick that Japanese audiences first took to their hearts at Budokan, with the rest of the world soon to follow. That approach is best exemplified by the evergreen "I Want You to Want Me" (which didn't become a hit until Live at Budokan), here dolled up with a Fats Domino-flavored piano break. While Werman's poppy approach dilutes the band's wall-of-noise live bent, it also underscores their impressive individual musical talents: Rick Nielsen's manic riffing on "Big Eyes" and the album's other retro-burner, "Clock Strikes Ten"; Robin Zander's vocal multiple-personalities that range from the suicidal angst of "Downed" (surely a favorite of Trick admirer Kurt Cobain) through the sweet anticipation of "I Want You" to the world-weariness of "So Good to See You"; and the rhythm section of Tom Petersson and Bun E. Carlos anchoring everything (especially the delicious "Southern Girls") with a flawless wallop. This expanded edition features significantly upgraded audio quality, new notes and photos, and five bonus tracks: the unpredictable instrumental B-Side "Oh Boy"; 1975 demos of "Southern Girls" and the anthemic "Come On, Come On" that ably display just the "before" side of the producer argument; and live versions of "You're All Talk" and longtime show closer "Goodnight" recorded at L.A.'s Whiskey in 1977. No sophomore jinx here. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars If You're A New Cheap Trick Fan, And You Want To Start Off With A Studio Album, Buy In Color.......2007-05-28

If you're new to Cheap Trick, buy In Color after you purchase At Budokan. The songs are melodic and hard-driving from start to finish. I Want You To Want Me actually sounds weaker here than it does on At Budokan. It sounds more like a country song than a hard-driving rocker as performed on At Budokan. This release got the ball rolling on their way to superstardom which would come to fruition on At Budokan.

5 out of 5 stars Their Best.......2006-05-11

What can anyone say about this album that hasn't already been said. It's CT's best. I can't offer any further insight to the greatness of this album that hasn't been said a thousand times before.
The original is brilliant from start to finish. Having said that though, it perhaps is a bit poppy. Doesn't have the rock of their other albums from that era, but it's a nice change.
The bonus songs here are nice additions.
Southern Girls is ranks in their best top 3 songs.
The weakest track for me has always been Clock Strikes Ten - it only scores 4/5!! Even on Budokan it's always been a lesser track for me.

I can't wait to hear the re-recorded version the boys did recently. It's sure to have the rock element this sometimes lacks. Hopefully they release it soon.

As mentioned, ranks up the very top of their albums. Next Position Please follows.

5 out of 5 stars Pure POWER POP!.......2006-02-13

Juxtapose this with dreck that was around in 70's (REO/STYX/Boston), 'In Color' is a pure power pop masterpiece.

It avoids the lunk-headed 'hard rock' cliches of the 70's.

"Come On, Come On" is one of their best tunes.

5 out of 5 stars Worth it for the bonus "unreleased" b side insturmental all by itself!.......2006-01-16

If you are reading this you are probably over 40 and heard some of Cheap Trick's stuff in your carousing youthful prime heyday. The disc is a great combo of power pop and AOR metal. I re-bought it after hearing "Big Eyes" on Sirius Sat. radio's "The Vault" channel. (Had the vinyl way back when) I loved the insturmental track, (and the other bonus tracks are cool also.) My faves: "so good to see you", "clock strikes ten", and of course ..."hello there"
Another major selling point to me as a kid at the department store was the back side of the cover. On the front you have Robin & Tom, all pretty boys with the "rock star life" pose etc., but what sold me was the back cover (for those who have not seen it) called "and in black & white" with a B&W pic of Rick and Bun on mo-peds (I think they are mo-peds!) that picture is the one that made this teenaged pimple hormone nerd IDENTIFY with these guys. And a fan from then on!

2 out of 5 stars No such thing as a bad Cheap Trick album is stretched by this wimpy LP, Busted , and Woke Up With A Monster.......2005-12-22

Cheap Trick's second album is very disappointing to me after
the good, but raw, "Live In The Studio", 1977-76 recorded
Cheap Trick. Almost all of the material here is so watered
down that it REALLY COMES OFF WAY BETTER on the later many
Live disks they did.

After a good start w/ "Hello There", a concert favorite for
many years, is the only thing here to write home about when
one considers how great all the tunes from this overproduced album sounded on the Budokan and other Live recordings later.

Tom Werman and Rick Niesen were on a show in 1991 that I had
recorded on a tape once and Werman, noce a friend of Tom Petersson's said, quote: "My three albums with Cheap Trick
got better and better...", to which the ever sarcastic Rick
Nielsen said, "Selling, maybe." Not realizing that brother
Rick was slamming him, Werman then continued, "Exactly"...

Oh boy. We now see why producing Cheap Trick albums through
the years has become like playing Russian Roulette. It's not
hard to get better than this and five months later the solid,
but somewhat oeverrated 'Heaven Tonight' came out...(And the
guys EVEN bought Werman back for Dream Police. Things turned
out better when Pete Comita, then later Jon Brant joined the
band. Yep - the best was yet to come - in the '80's

5 out of 5 stars The Tower Does It Best On Stage.......2003-09-18

The first Tower Of Power recording this reveiwer ever
listened to is still the best! One of the tightest Soul bands
to ever hit the stage proved their virtuoso chops with a fan-
tastic concert.
TOP was always known for having the "best horn section in
the business (to quote Paul Shaffer of Letterman fame)", but
the rhythm section has to get its props, too.
Arranger/trumpeter Greg Adams has a great solo on "What Is
Hip?", using his microphone as a mute, and lead trumpeter Mic
Gillette shows off his steely trumpet sound on the intro to
"You're Still a Young Man". Guitarist Bruce Conte thrills con-
stantly and his vocal on "Sparkling in the Sand" makes one won-
der why he wasn't featured more often as a singer.
The 23-plus minute "Knock Yourself Out" features a very
long but very inventive Lenny Pickett tenor solo, plus shorter
solos by the rest of the horns, including guest trumpeter Bill
Lamb. Organist Chester Thompson essays a funky solo using his
Clavinet and the ARP string synthesizer, backed by Conte, bassist extraordinaire Francis Rocco Prestia and one of the
best funk drummers, David Garibaldi.
This CD is a fine introduction to the sound of Tower Of
Power.

5 out of 5 stars THE Best "Live" album........Period!.......2003-09-14

I first heard this album in 1977...lemme tell you, finding good funk and soul up in Maine at that time wasn't easy! But as soon as I heard the band tear into "Down to the Nightclub", my ears opened like a parachute. I then proceeded to wear that album out playing it for my friends, who then demanded multiple listenings. We were all music majors in college by the way. This recording stands only with 1 other "live" album...that being "Waiting For Colombus" by Little Feat (that features the TOP Horns BTW).....as THE best live album you will hear, and the best representation of TOP you can get. Almost all of their albums stand out on the frontline of funk and soul, but this is the one to get if'n you can get only one. Monster horns, a rhythm section that locks it up tight, and Hubert Tubbs cooks it all down to a bubbling pot of steaming funk-gumbo that if you aren't stomping your feet by the 3rd cut....you're six-by-six brother!! And this features THE definitive cut of "What Is Hip" BTW........

5 out of 5 stars Simply put, THE GREATEST LIVE ALBUM EVER!!!!!.......2003-08-21

When I first heard this cd in 1991, I was on a road trip with a bunch of my college friends. It quickly became a staple of my traveling cd collection for the car and continues to be there even today. I would tend to disagree with the gentleman from St. Louis that said this was the 2nd best TOP lineup ever, putting the lineup from "Tower Of Power" to "Urban Renewal" at the top. I would reverse those since this particular cd and "In the Slot" are my #1 and #2 favorite TOP discs (the Lenny Williams-led discs being 3, 4, and 5 respectively.) This reminds me a lot of Billy Joel's "Songs In The Attic" in that it is material that while sounding adequate in the studio(What Is Hip being the exception), just ABSOLUTELY BURNS live. From the opening sounds of "Down To The Nightclub" to the raw force of the AMAZING TOP horn section in their greatest lineup ever in "You're Still A Young Man." The version of "What Is Hip" is faster and every bit as fantastic as the studio version on the aforementioned "Tower of Power." While I do enjoy the version of "Sparkling In The Sand" with the fabulous trumpet work of Mic Gillete, I almost wish they would've put something different on this album, maybe "Soul Vaccination" or "On The Serious Side." I'm not complaining though. They definately save the best for last with the 23:07 version of "Knock Yourself Out." Lenny Pickett comes in with an amazing sax solo that makes you feel as if you've gone 15 rounds with the heavyweight champ of the world only to have the organ/bass pedal solo by Chester Thompson say "Uh uh, you got one more round to go." The key to the whole band are the anchors: Rocco Prestia on bass, and David Garibaldi on drums. Its great to see that these two are back in good health (Prestia) and in the band (Garibaldi) If you only buy one TOP cd....buy this one first and you'll be hooked forever.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars What have they done to you, Carl Kolchak???.......2006-02-28

The "Kolchak - The Night Stalker" theme is also a re-recording and a pale imitation at that. The guy didn't even whistle the right tune. Where - where, I ask - is the love for Carl Kolchak?

The "Night Gallery" theme is pretty kickin' though.

3 out of 5 stars WARNING: Be sure you get the volume with 65 songs,.......2005-05-03

Although most of the songs on this CD are worth the purchase price, and great memories, the version I received only has 59 songs, not the 65 listed on Amazon.com
For the record the missing "Tunes" (Bar code 6 10535-68032 7) are, Stingray, Thunderbirds,Chico and the Man, Tom Jones Show, (Its not unusual) and Happening 68. Not enough to return it, but certainly somthing you should know.

I had purchased the CD for such themes as Emergency, High Chaparral, Night Gallery and Felony squad. I cannot tell after the all the years if these are originals or copies, but they are good enough to bring back memories.

If you are purchasing the CD for liner notes which tell you about the music, forget it. It does list artist for some, Author for some, but the scant notes are a one paragraph note about the show. A bit dissapointing.

1 out of 5 stars Where is the disclaimer that these are NOT originals?.......2005-01-09

Most of these are re-renditions of the originals. Many people upon hearing these recordings are going to be very disappointed if they remember the original theme.

This CD deserves zero stars. OR, at least a disclaimer somewhere that these are not original pieces.

4 out of 5 stars Fan-rific!.......2004-11-24

This CD features 65 more theme songs from old TV shows. Most of the best known shows were already featured on previous volumes, so there are many shows here that aren't that well known. So, since there are several themes here for shows I have never seen, it doesn't have as much nostalgia value for me as the older volumes have. However, unlike the earlier albums, which featured rerecordings of most of the themes, almost all of the themes here are the original versions. (The only rerecordings here are "Family Affair", "Let's Make a Deal", "Gentle Ben", "The High Chaparral", "The Big Valley" and "Masterpiece Theatre".) Fans of old TV shows should enjoy this CD.

5 out of 5 stars "The Men from Shiloh"? Now, that's a rarity!.......2002-07-29

For those that don't know, the last year of NBC's long-running western was reworked becoming "The Men from Shiloh", new ranch owner, a few new faces, and a dynamic theme by Ennio Morricone that replaced the more familiar one by Percy Faith.

If you know that little bit of fluff, as well as remember "This is Tom Jones" or "Judd for the Defense" or "Superchicken", then this is the disc for you.

If you don't, then give it to your 40-something uncle!

5 out of 5 stars Great albums at a great price.......2007-07-19

If your exposure to Cheap Trick began with "at Budokan," please buy these albums. Each has its own charm and the price is just unbeatable.

5 out of 5 stars Cheap Trick at its Best........2007-05-15

For those of you who think that "Live at Budokan" is the best Cheap Trick album out there, you'll love these, their first three albums, which have been re-released in one box set at under 20 dollars. Back in the 70s, CT personified good old American power pop at it's best. Fueled by Rick Nielson's sometimes astonishing guitar work, the steady drumming of Bunezuela (Bun E.) Carlos, and Robin Zander's soaring vocals, the endlessly touring Trick established itself as one of the hardest working bands in the country. Original versions of "Budokan" classics "Surrender", "Clock Strikes Ten" and "Come On Come On" are here, along with a lot of great stuff that shows them growing as a band and rocking the house in the process. Highly recommended--one of the best deals on Amazon!

3 out of 5 stars Three stars +...Basically even with all previously unreleased tracks, three LPs worth of tunes from CT's..........2006-06-15

First three studio LPs. This is when
Tom Petersson was real good. I am
still not a big fan of the 12-string
Bass, but they actaully started reco-
rding in the studio in 1975 with Sou-
thern Girls (Elvis was there that day
in Memphis, according to the liner
notes in Sex, America, Cheap Trick,
which I much prefer since it has all
these tunes and so much more. Get it
if you like Cheap Trick when they were
young, fresh, but hadn't peaked yet. I
first saw them in 1977 and have seen
them 30 or more times since. They
were better 1981-87 though. No offence,

This GB woman is incredible. her music has made me a fan of what i would normally not listen to. i bought the ablum for its beutiful cover (Spacek), but when i heard the music, i fell in love. The mezmarizing sounds of Black Monolith made me realiize what the essence of GB is. the overall composition of the album is amazing, the diersity between songs keeps the listener captivated. There are no dull moments in this album. Truly a dancefloor heater from begining to end.

It's no criticism of Karl Shiflett and his band to say they're living in the past. Recording around a set of vintage RCA Ribbon microphones, orchestrating each fiddle and mandolin break and each passionately harmonized chorus as if in homage to the sound and style of early Flatt & Scruggs and the original Blue Grass Boys, Shiflett positively nails the primordial dynamics of classic bluegrass. More impressively, he does so with a set dominated by original material. One of the best songs, banjo picker Jake Jenkins's mournful "Another Day," mirrors spare Carter Family ballads and perfectly suits Shiflett's homespun, twangy tenor. In Full Color is old-school bluegrass, and what it lacks in adventure and invention, it more than makes up for in heart, skill, and charm. --Roy Kasten

4 out of 5 stars I stumbled across it and really enjoy it ..........2002-06-28

... and, no, it's not just because we have the same last name!

I purchased this CD last year and took it with me when I went on deployment to the Arabian Gulf. On Sept. 11th, my ship went on high alert, and we went several weeks of long days with no port calls (or even plans for them). I must have listened to the CD 200 times in three months. One particular track, entitled "Another Day", about patience and faith, helped me to get through that long, hard period keeping (most of) my wits about me. Thanks.

5 out of 5 stars Great old-fashioned, country-tinged bluegrass... :-).......2001-12-15

Wow! What a stunner...!! These Texas fellas have the old-style bluegrass sound down so well that when this disc starts belting out your speakers, you might do a double-take wondering if you bought an old Flatt & Scruggs album or some old Bill Monroe by accident. No fooling -- they're really that good, and they have that old-time sound. Recording through vintage equipment explains part if it, but how *anyone* in this day and age can sound so durn authentic is still pretty impressive! If you like the traditional, driving classic sound of late-'40s bluegrass, then you owe it to yourself to check these guys out!

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have.........2001-03-18

Some things just can't be described in words, they have to experienced and this is very true regarding this CD. Listening to this CD was a joy, to say the least. The only thing better than this CD, is seeing them perform in person. They have captured the spirit of all the many past great legends in bluegrass and rolled them up into one fantastic package, then sprinkled it with their own spirit. This is not a CD you just listen to, you actually experience it. Don't miss it. ST

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Heavenly music - amazing authentic Renaissance recipes!.......2005-06-08

This is an absolutely superb CD in every respect. The excellent selection of songs encompasses some of the finest composers of the Late Middle Ages-Renaissance including earlier masters such as Machaut, Binchois, Dufay as well as some exceptional composers of the Prima Prattica such as Isaac and his pupil Senfl. Compositions from France, England, Spain/Portugal, Germany, Italy and Burgandy are all represented too. The Isaac chanson 'Donna di dentro' may well be my favorite of this whole CD.

Equally exciting is the fantastic recipe book that comes with the lavish booklet. I have many a cook book and I can tell you this is as good as any of them and an absolute must if you are a Renaissance music enthusiast. Just as many a great score has laid in museums gathering dust for centuries, so too have many cook books been forgotten and their recipes lost to time. The efforts of many reknown contemporary chefs have been employed to resurrect some of these gems. The food tastes like nothing I have ever tried before - like listening to Renaissance music for the first time. If feels like you have stuck your spoon and knife (forks were a later invention and no self-respecting HIP music lover would eat this food with one!) into a Renaissance still life picture of a lavish meal and started eating.

One suggestion: definitely try the 'orange omelette for pimps and harlots'. Only thing routinely use one whole orange (peeled and put through a blender) AND a couple of tablespoons of a light non-bitter orange marmalade. Skip the extra added sugar and instead add some Cointreau to the mixture. Then serve hot with ice cream as a desert (desert omelettes are a sadly lost art), unless you feel that you HAVE to keep these strictly HIP because they didn't have ice cream in those days - make sure your favourite song from this CD is playing. You will think you have died and gone to heaven.

Hearing the spirit of the Renaissance is one thing but to also see it, taste it, smell it - now that's something else!!! I strongly suggest buying now as these sort of releases then to dissappear and if it does reappear the wonderful CD booklet with its recipes will likely be missing.

5 out of 5 stars An irresistible combination of great food and music........2001-12-04

Food, Wine and Song is an irresistible combination of great food and music. I've even tried one of the recipes - the bread, almond and saffron pudding with a fig crust. It was delicious and preparing it while the CD played was inspiring. It was a perfect way to start this winter cooking season. The packaging is elegant!
