5 out of 5 stars GREAT ITEM.......2007-06-27

I ORDERED THIS ITEM FOR MY SON WHO LOVES DISNEY MUSIC. IT CAME IN GREAT CONDITION AND QUICKLY. LISTENING TO THE CD,S BRINGS BACK MEMORIES OF MY YOUNGER DAYS.

3 out of 5 stars Slow shipping & Minor Damage.......2007-05-14

My kids (2 & 3 yrs.) like the music that they have heard before. There are many songs included that are less popular. If your kids are like mine, you will be hitting the "next" button frequently. I ended up burning a cd of the songs that they liked. This worked out well.

The Shipping was fairly slow. It took about two weeks (10 business days) to arrive through standard mail. This probably wouldn't have been so bad, but most of the other orders that I have placed through Amazon have arrived in 5 business days or less.

The product itself seemed to be damaged during manufacture. All of the CDs were lose in the cases. It appears that they didn't seat properly, and during the seating process the tines in the center of the case that hold the CDs in place were broken. None of the discs were damaged or scratched.

5 out of 5 stars Grrrrrreat!.......2007-05-03

This is the best product for every Disney junkie, i LOVE it! It has just about every classic song ever made. I love it, and the price is VERY reasonable for 125 songs... it's a MUCH better deal than buying the other disney classic cd's individualy...so BUY IT!! like tigger says: ITS "GRRRRREEEAAAT!!!"

5 out of 5 stars This CD is Awesome.......2007-04-12

It has all the good disney songs sung like in the movies with the original singers. My daughter loves it.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great CD!!!!.......2006-07-22

I have all 5 CD's and it is an awesome collection! All of my favorite songs are on the 5 CD's and every Disney fan like I am should have this collection!

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed with these CD series..........2005-10-02

There isn't one single song from the 1977 classic "The Rescuers" included in this collection, I don't see why Disney chose not to include any of those songs which are all gorgeous, when they did include unmemorable and weak songs instead, I've seen these CD's with songs that aren't half as good as "Tomorrow is Another Day," "The Journey," "Someone's Waiting for You" or "Rescue Aid Society."

Very disappointing, The Rescuers is a fine Disney classic and it should be included with all of the others.

5 out of 5 stars Great Idea and a Wonderful CD.......2002-02-01

The idea of issuing musical selections from Disney films, features and other areas of their world of entertainment is really quite pleasing. If you love the world that Walt Disney created and has continued on to this day, this CD gives you little musical vignettes across that span of time that are very nostalgic and uplifting. I really love Track 13: THE MONKEY'S UNCLE sung by Annette Funicello and The Beach Boys. Track 4: "Under the Sea" from THE LITTLE MERMAID is just wonderful. This is a great CD.

5 out of 5 stars This is an awesome album!.......2001-12-20

This album is great because it has many songs that everyone in the family can agree upon. Like most teens, my parents aren't too thrilled with what i usually listen to, but with Classic Disney we all sing along while i remember movies from when I was younger, like The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, and my parents remember some of their old favorites, like The Parent Trap and originally seeing Peter Pan. This is a must-have for anyone who loves Disney movies and wants to share the songs with their kids or little brothers and sisters.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Irresistable.......2001-11-24

I think that Disney music captures our emotions and what a better way to get them then through a cullmination of the best Disney songs! Volume 1 contains all the newest hits as well as the greatest classics. I urge anyone to buy this cd...it will only open your heart and bring you back to your childhood!

5 out of 5 stars More Classic Music from Disney.......2002-02-27

This third CD of Disney music is a good mixture of the old with the new. Track 1: "Colors of the Wind" from POCAHONTAS is one of the best songs composed to date for a motion picture. Track 18: "Bella Notte" from LADY AND THE TRAMP brings back many memories as does Track 21: "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" from television show and movies. Going back even further is Track 24: "Little April Shower" from BAMBI, which is an interesting composition representing nature's beauty, fury and return to tranquility. Track 6: "Les Poissons" is a great number from THE LITTLE MERMAID that is well composed musically but also is used to advance the story of the film. This is yet another great CD in this series.

4 out of 5 stars NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS.......2001-03-18

Burton movies are great. Burton movies with Elfman's music... well, they're out of this world. Nightmare before Christmas is my favorite movie of all times, and someone who hasn't seen it, doesn't have to make those comments. It's a movie full of great feelings; plus the music is great. Someone who hasn't seen the movie wouldn't understand "Jack's Lament"... I invite Caroline to see it and THEN critize it. BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIMES.

4 out of 5 stars GRREAT!.......2000-09-21

These Disney CD's are so great. People of all ages can enjoy them. My favorite is volume 2. My 3 year old LOVES it but so does my 22 year old friend!

4 out of 5 stars Nightmare Before Christmas Rocks!.......2000-08-25

Anyone who would suggest that Jack's Lament and Nightmare Before Christmas was not good, without even seeing the movie should not be allowed to make reviews on websites. It's a great movie and Danny Elfman is a brilliant composer. Hey let's hear it for the lady who can't handle anything more complex than, "M.I.C.K.E..." you know what I mean...I get a little upset thats all...

4 out of 5 stars A great collection of songs.......2000-04-01

I loved the first two cds of this series, and I love this one as well, but I can honestly give it only four stars. I loved 'Mine, Mine, Mine" because David Ogden Stiers sings a part in it, and "Les Poissons" was great because Rene Auberjonois sings it (he played the Changling in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), and does a wonderful job. I also loved "Are We Dancing" from The Happiest Millionaire, one of my favorite Disney movies. But the one thing I disliked was the song from "Nightmare Before Christmas". That was one movie that didn't need to be made. I'll admit, I never saw it, but I don't have to to know that it wasn't something I'd enjoy. Just listening to "Jack's Lament" tells me enough. This cd didn't need that song, and that is why I can only give this one four stars.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars An excellent garage rock sampler.......2007-07-22

This is one of several albums (LPs, CDs, and Box Sets alike) to bear the title of "Nuggets." Specifically, it's the first entry in a three part series, originally released by Rhino Records in the mid-80s. The series was intended to be a companion to Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968, a double LP released by Elektra Records in 1972. Rhino would go on to release a four-disc box set of the same title (which is probably the most famous member of the Nuggets family) in the mid 90s. The box set included all of the tracks from the 1972 LP.

The purpose of Nuggets (the LP, the series, and the box set) was to reissue undeservedly little-known, forgotten, or just plain obscure rock 'n' roll tunes from the mid '60s, and this is achieved with remarkable success. In fact, the box set (especially the 27 tracks that made up the original LP) is pretty much essential listening for anyone who even remotely cares about rock music. The kind of music found on a Nuggets album is wild, exuberant, and (usually) brilliant, a pocket-sized summation of just why rock 'n' roll is so great. Although not as stunnignly good as the box set, this disc is also an excellent listen for several reasons.

For one thing, it has 12 tracks in common with the box set (and 6 with the original LP), making it an excellent introduction to the Nuggets sound for someone who doesn't want to shell out the cash for a four disc set. They're also stunning songs in their own right: The Standells' "Dirty Water" is a strutting slice of bluesy proto-punk with a mean little guitar lick and some snarling vocals, while The Chocolate Watchband's "Let's Talk About Girls" threatens to outdo the bloody mindedness and raw sexuality of the 'Stones. The Count Five's "Psychotic Reaction" is a ridiculously catchy two-chord smasher that brilliantly apes the Yardbirds (and sets the template for hundreds of other garage bands to follow), while the Seeds sound brilliantly bizarre on "Pushin' Too Hard" and "Can't Seem To Make You Mine." The Amboy Dukes bridge the gap between psychedelia and hard rock on "Journey To the Center of the Mind" (which features a young Ted Nugent slaughtering his guitar!), and the Knickerbockers craft the ultimate Beatles soundalike with "Lies." Of the six tracks that aren't on the box set, the Easybeats' "Friday On My Mind" and the Troggs' ubiquitous classic "Wild Thing" are strong highlights.

Still, this isn't a perfect disc. Since you really should have the box set in your collection, twelve of these tracks are redundant. Also, the inclusion of two songs by the Monkees ("Valleri" and "Pleasant Valley Sunday") is a little odd, as those songs are widely available elsewhere. They're not bad songs, though. A lot of these songs don't really measure up to the standards set by the box set- the 6 songs that don't overlap with the set (yes, even "Wild Thing" and "Friday On My Mind") pale in comparison to the other 12, and drag down the pleasure factor by a bit. They're not terrible songs, of course, just not quite as good as the others.

Still, for someone just getting accquainted with the world of Nuggets, this is an excellent first purchase. Just remember to come back for more!

5 out of 5 stars Great late-60s music!.......2007-07-05

One hit wonders? Sure (for the most part). Great music? You bet!

I have always been drawn to the music of the 1960s, particularly the late-1960s, and the three "Nuggets" CDs really whetted my appetite for more of the same.

While The Beatles, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, and others ruled the charts with hit after hit, the groups featured here were majority one-hit wonders, "garage bands," call it whatever you want, but it's those one-hit wonders that people love and fondly associate with this time period (I know I do with stuff from the 1990s, so I can relate to the nostalgic feelings from "dinosaurs" here).

As one listens to the tracks, you can feel the youthful energy of the times, the protest against all the so-called norms, and of young people wanting to find their own way in life as opposed to having it predetermined for them. Other songs are about drugs (oh me, oh my!) and so what? That doesn't make them any less enjoyable.

I listen to this CD from start to finish everytime and enjoy every song, but "Open My Eyes" by The Nazz and "Journey to the Center of the Mind" by The Amboy Dukes are two great tunes that keep me jamming. I find that the more I listen to it, the more I appreciate some tunes I didn't pay enough attention to the first six hundred times around.

It's wise to buy all three "Nuggets" CDs as opposed to buying just the compilation. You'd be cheating yourself out of some great music if you did. - Donna Di Giacomo

4 out of 5 stars A prize for boomers... and maybe their kids........2006-06-30

Psychadelic? I don't think I'd call most of the tunes on this album psychdelic, save perhaps the great Nazz "Open My Eyes" and the Dukes' "Journey to the Center of Your Mind.". But almost every tune here brings back great memories of my childhood, listening to amazing the new music that was coming in the wake of the great British invasion bands.

When we think of 60s music, we tend to think of the real monsters of that time, like The Beatles, Cream, Hendrix, the Doors, and so forth, but most of what we listened to was more like what you'd find on this album- great pop tunes recoded by bands with just one or two hits. Listening to this collection will bring back great memories for the over 50 crowd, and show the kids today just how much the current wave of pop owes to those who were performing back when grampa and grandma were tooling around in a VW Microbus.

4 out of 5 stars Bright Fringe of the British Invasion.......2006-02-06

-You don't have to believe that any of the songs on this well-chosen collection is "a pop classic easily surpassing anything by the Beatles" (as the feverish CD notes by Greg Shaw state) to enjoy the energy and, at times, quirkiness of the music. The comparison to the Beatles is apt because many of the groups here were touted as either "the next Beatles" (The Easybeats) or "the American answer to the Beatles" (The Beau Brummels, The Monkees). The rest of the groups were "the next Rolling Stones" or "the American answer to The Rolling Stones." The rush to get through the door that those two bands blew open resulted in music that was by turns imitative of, suggestive of, or hinting-at-while-trying-something-a-bit-different-than what the forerunners did. It hardly mattered that the forerunners had moved on to more adventurous music. This CD captures the optimism of young musicians who saw that some guitars and a drum set when applied enthusiastically backing tight (and not-so-tight) harmonies might just conquer the world, or at least that month's Billboard charts. When listening to the sometimes raw and awkward expressions of these groups (the proto-slick Monkees excepted) it helps to have been too young to vote when this music was first released, but is apparently not a requirement. Cue up this CD and don't sit back to enjoy it -- get up and move.

4 out of 5 stars Fun Disney songs from yesteryear to share.........2007-07-09

We bought this CD to practice my daughter's dance recital number to the "MICKY MOUSE CLUB MARCH"...however after listening to the whole thing over and over and over we are totally in love with classics like "THe Bear Neccessities" and "Supercalifragilistic (SP?)....we love the songs from all our favorite Disney movies, and this CD showcases a lot of them! :) A total bargain for variety music that is appropriate for children and families alike.

5 out of 5 stars Fantasmically Disney!.......2003-03-28

This compillation of many of the best Disney songs such as "Ev'ry body's got a laughin' place" in Song of the South, "When you wish upon a star" in Pinocchio, "Supercalifragelisticexpialodocious" in Julie Andrew's Mary Poppins, "Mickey Mouse Club March" from the Mickey Mouse Club are just a few of the amazing songs mixed into this CD. A few weeks ago, my favourite CD of the first 4 was number three, now, it is number 2! So as you can see...they are excellent. I'd also like to point out that if you don't know some songs on the CD's...give them a chance. For example: "ON The Front Porch" is a very good song, even if I had never heard it before as well as "Ev'ry body's got a laughin' place"! Just listen to it and you'll drift away Part of another world or One Jump Ahead of Reality!!!

5 out of 5 stars A Second Compilation from Disney.......2002-02-27

The concept of issuing musical selections from Disney's movies, features and other areas of their world of entertainment continues to be quite satisfying. If you love the world that Walt Disney created and has continued on to this day, this is another CD that continues to give you little musical vignettes across that span of time that are very nostalgic and uplifting as they did with the first one. Track 1: "Be Our Guest" from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is really well written in the grand style of the old Hollywood musicals. Track 8: "Candle on the Water" from PETE'S DRAGON is beautifully written and performed. Track 15: "It's a Small World (After All)" is now a timeless classic and a musical icon very representative of Walt Disney's vision for societies of the future. This is one of the best volumes of the set.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of the Best.......2001-01-31

This is quite possibly the best of all of the Disney Classic Cds. Beleive me, I own each and every one. I fall asleep to them, eat to them, dace to them, sing to them. I love all of the song so much I can sing each of them without the cd or the words in the order they are on the cd. Definatly a must have and perfect for anyone who needs a little Disney in their life.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best...........2000-08-03

Disney's masterpieces have always relied on music, so the music has to be memorable and magical. This collection of various Disney tunes (including everything from "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" to "Mickey Mouse Club March") is a true gem. If you remember Disney by the early films, your music is here. If you remember the Golden Age ("The Little Mermaid" through "Aladdin"), your music is here. If your Disney is the later years ("Pocahantas" through "Tarzan"), your music is here. It's all here--even the Main Street Electrical Parade theeme! This album has something for the whole family, and is critical to any Disney music collection! Also reccomended are the other volumes in this series. (So far there have been five editions--this one is the second.) But I especially reccomend this one. ;o) Do yourself a favor and add it to your collection! If you're a Disney fan, you'll never forget this album. (SURE HIT!)

5 out of 5 stars "Cold as a frozen waffle"? .......2005-11-30

Hardly, Amy. She claims in "Why Do I?" to have a cold heart, hence the frozen waffle reference. That line alone is enough (it's a simile, right? Help me, creative writing majors), by my lights, to earn five stars....But anyway, this woman is far from cold hearted - in fact, she probably has a little too much heart, if that's possible. And the great thing about her stuff is that it's expressed in an extremely witty, self-aware way - there's nothing sappy about it. She doesn't bleed her broken heart all over you, like many lesser female singer-songwriters (do I have to name names? OK. Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, Alanis M., Dido, etc. I could go on and on...). Folks, we're talkin' some extremely wry, sharp, literate stuff...Randy Newman, Loudon Wainwright, Elvis Costello territory...And this one ranks up there in her canon. It's possibly her best and would make a great starting place for someone interested in checking the amazingly talented Ms. Rigby out.

4 out of 5 stars Late nights with NPR.......2004-12-04

I first heard of Amy Rigby when she was interviewed by NPR; I was driving along I-80. Her album seemed like the perfect soundtrack to driving alone, at night. She so impressed me with the candor of her songs. I bought this album and have not regretted it in the least. 'Don't Ever Change,' 'Break Up Boots,' and 'Even the Weak Survive' continue to be favorites that I'll listen to on repeat, over and over. Her lyrics are smart, snappy, and insightful. I've always been a sucker for lyrics. Rigby's voice sometimes waxes thin and reedy, but her lyrics more than make up for what might be musically lacking.

4 out of 5 stars Eclectic, whimsical, soulful folksy, entertaining collection.......2004-05-21

In Til the Wheels Fall Off Amy Rigby provides an eclectic collection of mainly folksy songs that will definitely hit home with the more mature crowd. These are songs of introspection, retrospection and, occasionally, frustration with the complications and pace of life for the middle aged.

Rigby's voice has limited musical range but tremendous emotive range. Her voice stands as an excellent barometer for the emotional pressure that builds up in some of these songs, such as Don't ever Change, O'Hare and Even the Weak Survive, as well as an effective emotional counterpoint to her more whimsical entries, such as Are we Ever Gonna Have Sex again.

The sequencing and arrangement of some material on the album gives it a somewhat scattered feeling, creating a sort of rollercoaster emotional feel to the album which I think distracts from its overall effect. That's not a major complaint but it's enough to bump this one down a star in my ratings.

All in all, a very solid little gem of an album, one you will find as incredibly engaging as your teens will find totally boring!

4 out of 5 stars Great for grownups.......2004-02-11

As another New Yorker transplanted to Nashville, I have a special little place in my musical heart for Amy Rigby. I can't compare this CD to her other recordings, as it's the only one I've heard, but it's a good listen. There are a couple of great songs, and the rest is, well, just fine. It's too good to be called filler, but it a little lackluster half the time.

The first track uses wordplay seemingly for its own sake. Maybe that's the influence of being around southern songwriters, who do delight in words, as do I. But the protagonist who likes to pull wings off butterflies is unsympathetic. The title track is lyrically uninteresting, and I can't imagine why it's been singled out, but "Shopping Around" is a good relationship song. "Don't Ever Change", on the other hand, is absolutely breathtaking - I can't imagine anyone with a heart being able to listen to it without eyes getting a little moist. "Are We Ever Gonna Have Sex Again" is hilarious and right on target, but I think the reviewer who said it was hard to write a funny song that isn't just a novelty had it right - this song is a (fun) novelty. I'm going to go out on a limb and make an allusion to another semi-obscure middle-aged Nashville songwriter who may be familiar to some Amy Rigby fans. I'd compare this song to Marshall Chapman's "Alabama Bad", not to her "Call the Lamas". It makes you laugh, but doesn't get to the heart of the matter.

"The Deal" is a nice enough whimsical song about the notion of having a relationship without having to compromise, "O'Hare" is a decent song, and "How People Are" is a low point on the CD. But "Even The Weak Survive" is, to me, a brilliant song, and one of a few reasons to buy this CD. The rest of the songs are fine, some, like "Last Request", are better than others, and some sound tailormade for some country star to re-record them.

Overall, I recommend the CD as a chance to hear a good songwriter with a mature viewpoint, a delightful wry sense of humor, and a sometimes-waifish voice that can express the most profound emotions with pure unadorned achiness. I love her voice. There is some truly great songwriting here, the recording is professional, and the instrumentation tasteful. The only drawback is the uneven quality in the songwriting. It never dips below mediocre, and rarely below pretty good, but several, if not half of these songs could easily have been omitted.

5 out of 5 stars A mature, funny album for.......2004-02-07

A longtime fixture on the New York indie-altie/power-pop scene, songwriter Amy Rigby has given the world another little gem with this fine, episodic album. It's not an entirely cohesive work, as she shifts from somewhat dense, introspective rock songs to folkie acoustic numbers and back again... Not that I have a problem with artists who won't limit themselves to one style of music, it's just that the the transitions aren't always that smooth. Nonetheless, in this case the parts are more than the sum of the whole, and a handful of songs on here made this one of my favorite records of 2003. The blisteringly hilarious novelty song, "Are We Ever Gonna Have Sex Again?" made me laugh out loud when I first heard it: it's the all-too-familiar tale of the modern-day couple whose erotic life has been curtailed both by busy schedules and everyday routine; the tart, too-true lyrics and Rigby's dead-on delivery make this an instant classic. Other favorites include the opening track, "Why Do I," a power-pop exploration of the neurotic impulse towards self-sabotage, and "Don't Ever Change," a touching embrace of normalcy and imperfection in those we love, and in acceptance of the quirky flaws of the world at large. As with the other two songs, it's Rigby's wry, gentle, deft slice-of life observations that make this tune such a winner. Overall, this album shows its greatest appeal in its sense of maturity and un-corny wisdom; it's nice to see that as Baby Boom indie-rockers age and mellow out that they can still make such great music.

5 out of 5 stars wonderful jazz compilation.......2006-03-02

If you are new to jazz or an old time jazz lover this mix will definitely make you happy for hours and hours. It's beautiful.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding introduction to Jazz.......2005-02-22

I highly recommend this set. As a (reasonably) young person that didn't really know much about Jazz, I purchased this set on a whim. I am very glad I did! If you are interested in learning about a wide range of good, listenable music, this is a great set. Has a wide range of Jazz artists and styles on it and every song is great. I cannot vouch for the other volumes of this series, but Volume 1 is outstanding.

It's a great place for an all around introduction, or to listen to find out artists/groups that you want to find out more about.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Shining Addition to Any Collection.......2004-03-12

The consolidation of record companies is generally bad, but this 3-CD box set was only possible because MCA acquired the rights to some outstanding early "race" record labels (Vocalion, Decca) and classy early R&B (e.g. Chess). The result is an intelligent, sequenced collection that is much more than a jarring, random assortment of songs by blues masters. Starting with the Delta blues, the mix seems subtly slanted in favor of bawdy, roadhouse-style blues performances--why it's the devil's music and you can't stay away from it. Whether it's Peetie Wheatstraw, Louis Jordan, John Lee Hooker or Etta James, these performances will seduce you. Good quality sound throughout (even the old stuff), with a handsome booklet.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent blues collection.......2003-07-10

I own tons of blues CD's and records but I find myself going back to this collection over and over again. The songs represent some of the strongest recordings by the masters of the blues. Whether your interest is delta blues, piano blues, jump blues, Chicago blues or smooth urban blues; you'll find plenty to peak your ear. If you're lucky as I was, you'll find some unfamiliar and great artists to lead you down new musical roads. Some of my personal favorites are: That's No Way to Get Along - Robert Wilkins, What's the Matter with the Mill? - Kansas Joe McCoy, Floating Bridge - Sleepy John Estes, Mother Earth - Memphis Slim, It Serves You Right to Suffer - John Lee Hooker- just to name a few. Since I've got a 1,000 word limit in this review it prevents me from listing every great track on the collection and all the reasons you should purchase it. Suffice to say, buy it now and you won't be sorry!

5 out of 5 stars Best Collection of Classic Blues!.......1999-04-11

I have purchased a lot of Blues recordings recently, but for a single purchase, this collection would be the best. It has the one or two most recognized songs from the most prominent Blues artists from 1927 to 1969, without the "scratches" of the old '78's!!!
