Customer Reviews:
A Great Introduction to Opera.......2004-11-28
This CD serves as a great beginner's guide to opera. there is plenty to choose from on this CD. Placido Domingo starts off the CD with his trademark "Celeste Aida." Next, Alfredo Kraus and Giuseppe Taddei sing "Au fond du temple saint," in Italian instead of French. Renata Tebaldi follows in "Ebben? ne andro lontana." You can't have a opera CD without Luciano Pavarotti, and you get him in "Io son sol...Ah dispar, vision!" from Manon. A great trio from La fille du regiment, "Il faut partir" follows, starring Beverly Sills, Fernando Corena, and Grayson Hirst. Jose Carreras and Renata Scotto follow in the Brindisi from La Traviata. Montserrat Caballe graces the #7 spot in "Oh nube! che lieve" from Maria Stuarda. Franco Corelli is excellent is "Nessun dorma" from Turandot. Alfredo Kraus returns again in "Dalla sua pace" from Don Giovanni. This is one of my favorite arias on the CD. Carlo Bergonzi follows in "Die campi, dai prati" from Mefistofele. Franco Corelli follows in the role he was made for: Manrico's "Di quella pira" from Il Trovatore. Montserrat Caballe and Siegmund Nimsgern sing in one of the only German arias on the CD: "Und du wurst mein..." from Arabella. Gundula Janowitz sings in "Dich teure Halle," the other German aria on this CD. I can't believe Nicolai Gedda isn't on this CD more than once. He sings "Merci, doux crepuscule" from La damnation de Faust. Mirella Freni comes next in "Si. Mi chiamano Mimi" from La Boheme. My favorite tenor, Giuseppe di Stefano comes in the next two clips: "E lucevan la stelle" from Tosca, and, with Maria Callas, "E il sol dell'anima" from Rigoletto. How can this great recording end? With Pavarotti in "Tu che a Dio" from Lucia di Lammermoor of course.
Excellent Potpourri.......2004-09-12
Do not be misled by the incredibly low price on this album; the recording quality is quite good. I would have liked more information in the liner notes (especially the year of the performance), but that is a minor quibble when compared to hearing some of the best opera stars of the last century for less than a matinee movie ticket.
So, indulge and enjoy!

Inspirational!.......2004-10-08
Majestic hymns sung with British accents. A great combination! I haven't noticed any objectionable sounds on my copy.
hymns we sang in church.......2003-02-16
i grew up in a traditional presbyterian church that had a pipe organ. i wanted a cd of many of the hymns that we sang in church sung by a choir and accompanied by a pipe organ. this cd fulfilled my wishes perfectly. the hymns are performed in a very straight-forward fashion with no show-boating or excess flourishes which is exactly what i wanted. this is not gospel music but what i refer to as liturgical music to indicate that it is religious music but not gospel music. i would give it 5 stars but there is a slight hiss. other than that the recording quality is very good.

Album Description
De/Vision continues to polish and perfect their own sound, with emotional lyricism, top-notch electronic production, and memorable melodies. Though "6 Feet Underground" may not be the band's most club-friendly album (songs like "I'm Not Dreaming of You" or "Turn Me On" certainly have dance-floor potential) the album still stands out as one of the band's best, focusing on the emotional roller-coaster of love and relationships.
Customer Reviews:
Not as great as I thought..........2006-09-22
I expected more from them this time around but it seemed that they mellowed a bit too much on this album. It's more on the slower/softer side of De/Vision.
The title track was boring as dripping molasses. The rest of the songs faired a bit better. Nothing grabs you from the onset. Get to listen to it a few more times to appreciate some of the tracks here.
Good De/Vision album overall though.
Definitely not for casual listeners.
It sticks with you.......2006-02-21
I recently discovered De/Vision, and I am slowly buying all the old stuff. This one is by far the best, even better then the latest release.
best album.......2005-11-23
i first heard devision a few months back, their devolution album. i wasn't really impressed. it sounded too much like club mix music lacking in creative lyrics. the only exception for me was the song "drifting sideways" which,to me, was excellent. it combined the electronic sound with real lyrics, and a solidified composition.
i have to compare it with trent reznor in that you really need to pair interesting background with an equally interesting lyrics/singing to make a *whole* song, which he does. (though his style is more industrial).
6 feet underground
i LOVE this album. they took the strengths that were developing in songs like "drifting sideways" and made an entire album with that quality. music you'd actually want to listen to, even outside of the club, where you can actually really *hear* it.
for me, this is definately their strongest album. after listening to it excessively, i went back to devolution, and some of it was able to grow on me then.
6 ft is also a somewhat darker album than the others. more emotional/ more somber/ introspective. but not lacking in good beats.
6 Feet Underground.......2005-11-10
Not their finest work to date, De/Vision's "6 Feet Underground" is still a very worthy effort and a good CD for the seasoned fan. Overall, the album has several solid tracks, but very little in the way of a sure-fire, over-the-top hit.
The two singles on the album, 'I'm Not Dreaming of You' and 'Turn Me On' are excellent tunes, and are certainly worthy of being released as singles, but they are relatively slow and not even the best tracks on the album. If you're looking for the more 'danceable' side of the band, then 6FU may ultimately disappoint you.
However, released on both singles discs are several incredible, club-worthy remixes, that I feel are actually better than the original tunes.
My personal favorites on 6FU are the opening track, 'I'm Not Enough' which is in a similar vein to the two previously mentioned tracks, but a little livelier, and 'Take Me Over', which begins with a nice little melody, then kicks you in the head with a hard-driving, Ministry/Industrial-style rift. Sublime.
'Take Me to Heaven', the disc's closing track is a haunting, Depeche Mode, a la "Songs of Faith and Devotion"- type song, which lead-singer Steffen pulls off extremely well. The song's sultry lyrics blend nicely with the dark, desolate composition. Picture a cross between DM's 'Clean' and 'I Feel You.' However, the references to DM and the aforementioned Ministry, are just that, references for the uninitiated. De/Vision very much stand on their own merit.
'Beside You' and 'Right On Time', contrary to most of the rest of 6FU, make you want to move. The former is pretty catchy, while the latter is mostly instrumental, and falls just short of being a club hit.
'Unputdownable' reminds me of early Camouflage, but with much better English, and 'Aimee' is a nice little tune as well. Both songs have been released as b-sides and really aren't any better than that.
The title track is very dark and waaaay too long. I truly enjoy its brooding sensitivities, but it simply seems like they couldn't figure out how to end it. Too bad, because its not a bad song.
'Beside You' is OK, but it is yet another slow-ish track. In general, 6FU has a fistful of very good tunes, but ultimately fails to deliver as a whole. Perhaps if all the slow-ish songs were divided up and put onto several different discs, they would sound even better. But a lack of variation on the CD is really the only thing that prevents this from being one of the band's best.
Sounds like depeche.......2005-10-21
I love de/vision their music is incredible. If you like depeche mode than you'll love these guys. This album is not their best but it is a 10 for me. I cant wait for the next from them.

Album Description
De/Vision has been one of the most important synthpop bands from German, forging the way for the contemporary scene and showing how this genre is ready to push back into the mainstream alternative pop market. This album features De/Vision's most popular songs from their first 10 years together as a band.
Customer Reviews:
A mix.......2004-09-07
I'm new to De/vision. The sound is like listening Depeche Mode, New Order and Camouflage, all in a mix.
Excellent Collection.......2003-08-24
De/Vision are a very very impressive group, closely reminiscent of Depeche Mode but often faster paced than that English group.
This release is a compilation of their best tracks from 8 years or so of albums. Although it obviously lacks the context which each of the earlier albums would give one (the only reason why it has only been given 4 stars), it is nonetheless a compelling audio experience with almost no weak songs and several excellent ones. The coldly-eyed atheistic "Dinner Without Grace" and intensely romantic "Dress Me when I Bleed" are better than excellent and nothing short of outstanding. It is even more remarkable that the former is quite fast-paced while the latter is morbidly slow, for it shows that De/Vision are able to create superb songs which differ significantly in conception.
All the earlier albums are available on www.amazon.de. For those who are skeptical, philistine or impecunious this is simply an album which one is aesthetically poorer having not heard - it must be purchased.
Classic De/Vision.......2003-04-25
This is the album that started my love affair with this groups music and I have been hooked ever since. This album is perfect for the synthpop fan who is not familiar with De/Vision. It will get you caught up on their history and prepare you for what comes next, which is even better! A must have for any Depeche Mode or Erasure Fan and worth every penny.
Synthpop it is.......2002-12-08
I recently purchased this CD based on a a song I of theirs I found on a compilation. But all I can say is that this CD was a let down.
The music is good, and a few tracks spark my interest but on the whole the lyrics are less then engaging, and most of the tracks are mediocre. They really just sound average.
Not Depeche, not any the less for it........2002-06-25
If Depeche Mode are a favourite band.....prepare to have another. Not that these guys are a carbon copy, in fact they sound like no-one but themselves. Nonetheless, the influences they have in common are apparent, and they share elements like the infectious beats coupled with honest and true lyrical composition, the landscape of sound and evocative arrangements which are so characteristic of Depeche Mode, and so draw these comparisons. Quality weighed against quality, De/Vision come off ok, for they are no pretenders to the throne but have plenty to say, and their own delicately constructed harmonies with which to say it. Steering well clear of the worst excesses of electronica's sometime tendency to indulge in navel-gazing and equally far from the meaningless banality of the dance-ruled new electric, these guys carefully punctuate the finer points of what electronica truly has to offer. In fact, that is really what they do: the finer points.

Among the best.......2005-05-11
I first caught wind of One King Down when I was in college, and went to a hardcore show at a local frat house. They were replacing a local band, 607, and boy did they do the job! I went out and bought Bloodlust Revenge. While at first, I was not used to the screaming at first(I had still affiliated most screaming with bad death metal), the riffs were there, and I remembered how Rob & the rest of the band tore it up. Intense. Where did today's metalcore grow out of? Bands like One King Down is your answer. Buy this album!
Ahhhh.....Memories.......2003-12-16
Wow......havent heard this in a LONG time......as in since it first came out. Im an old HC fan from the QE2 days and this is where i first saw OKD. Although im not sXe, I still thought the band rocked and this CD was killer. I say buy it or be brutalized.
There is no equal.......2003-07-16
One King Down may have been on Equal Vision Records, but in the hardcore world, there is no other album that is Equal to Bloodlust Revenge. Nothing equals its musicianship, its perfectly recorded sound, or its vocalist's abilities. No hardcore band compares to One King Down. Their perfection in musical arrangement is unique and unrivaled and will remain so for a long time. If you are a hardcore fan and do not have this album, you have been wasting the last 6 years of your life.
If you are vsxe buy this and love it.......2001-12-08
Took me a little bit to get used to. Now that I have, its one of my favorites. Lyrics like poetic earth crisis and heavy, metal-core music. You'll fingerpoint and spout vsxe philosophy every time you hear it. Which is good.
This is the best version ,of hardcore.......2001-05-27

The inimitable Tauber sings lieder.......2003-02-13
In Volume 1 of this series, Tauber sang from Viennese operetta primarily, the repertoire for which he was best known. In this issue he sings standard lieder recital fare, an area where he was just as talented. But his career as a purveyor of Viennese charm often co-opted his ability to sing 'serious' music, much as being an 'Irish tenor' took over the career of John McCormack. Here, though, he makes up for that, and in wonderful style. Just listen to Schumann's 'Im wunderschönen Monat Mai' or 'Ich grolle nicht' and you'll see what I mean. Or 'Träume' from Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder. I almost forget to breathe when he sings Richard Strauss's 'Morgen.' The only small quibble I'd have is that Tauber's strong Viennese accent sometimes intrudes in literature we generally hear with more standard hochdeutsch pronunciation.
These performances were originally published on the German Odeon label and had a great deal of surface noise. Wizard recording producer Ward Marston has cleaned up and burnished their sound inobtrusively. The performances themselves are, of course, self-recommending, and particularly at this bargain price.

Album Description
This is the second single from the popular "6 Feet Underground" album, providing some nice alternative club mixes of the catchy song "Turn Me On". Though the original doesn't sound like an obvious club track, this single does a wonderful job of presenting an ultra-danceable approach with remixes by Delobbo, Wave In Head, and Rename.
Customer Reviews:
Turned Me On.......2006-12-05
I love this song, with its brooding beat and production. But I love it even more after Rename got a hold of it and turned it into one of the best remixes I have ever heard. Who knew?
While "Turn Me On" is a relatively slow and melancholy song (while being utterly beautiful as well), Rename sped up the bpm well above 120 and created a club hit!
I also enjoyed Wave In Head's remix. While not the floor-killer of the Rename version, it has some really cool blips and whirs which make for an enjoyable experience with repeated listenings.
The two Delobbo mixes are strong as well, but change the lyrical structure a bit too much for my taste.
Finally, "Unputdownable" is a nice mid-tempo song which offers a change-up to all the excellent remixes around it.
Just didn't 'turn me on' the way I had hoped........2005-02-25
"Turn me on" is one of my favorites of "6 Feet Underground" for it's superb lyrical pessimism and infectious mid-tempo beat. I chose this single over "I'm not dreaming of you" before hearing either song and I was very happy and excited to have done so when I did receive 6 feet in the mail a few days later, especially when checking out who would be doing the remixes( Wave in Head is a very respectable German synth band similar to DV ). While the mixes arent too bad and the Wave in Head remix did turn out to be a very nice, upbeat, dance-oriented confection, it was the presence of the original album version as the first track that definitely hurt this single the most because it blows all the others away.
Even though I am always game for a nice clubfriendly reworking, all the melancholy emotion of the original is missing and that really takes away from the song in this case because that emotion really was(is) the strength of the song itself. Although I am not completely disappointed I also secretly wish that there was some alternate version of the single featuring remixes by Icon of Coil and/or VNV Nation, bands that know how stretch the boundaries without destroying the formula.
great remixes!!.......2005-01-14
"TURN ME ON" WAS AND IS MY FAVE SONG FROM THE 6FT UNDERGROUND ALBUM. AND QUITE HONESTLY I DIDN'T EXPECT IT TO BE A SINGLE. ESPECIALLY WITH ALL THE BUZZ SURROUNDING "AIMEE". ANYWAY... THE RENAME REMIX IS THE BEST VERSION HERE AND COMPLETELY CHANGES THIS SONG INTO A CLUB CLASSIC AND RANKS IT AMONG ONE OF DE/VISIONS BEST SONGS. IF YOU MISS THE UPTEMPO SONGS OF THEIR PAST ALBUMS, THE RENAME REMIX WILL BRING IT ALL BACK FOR YOU.PICK THIS UP NOW!!!!

Album Description
Founded in 1971 by video artists Woody and Steina Vasulka, The Kitchen is internationally known as a leading center for video, music, dance, performance, new media and literature. The first institution to focus exclusively on cutting-edge, multidisciplinary works, it has been a powerful force in shaping the cultural landscape of this country. Over the last thirty years The Kitchen has documented every one of its performances with video and/or audiotape. However, in recent years much of this documentation, primarily recorded on what are now obsolete formats, began deteriorating. In 1999, under the leadership of Executive Director Elise Bernhardt, and with the dedication of The Kitchen9s Board of Directors and the help of numerous donors, The Kitchen began an initiative to catalog and re-master its extensive collection of 3600 videotapes. In the fall of 2001, an additional trove of audio recordings from the 1970s was discovered. While these tapes promised rare and exciting music by such artists as John Cage, Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, and David Tudor (in the first box alone!), none of this material could be accessed without proper cleaning and re-formatting and the funds and facilities to do so. A recent collaborative partnership with The Looking Glass Studios and Philip Glass9 label, Orange Mountain Music, has allowed for the restoration of a number of audio reels. This work has been done with the goal of producing a series of CDs, From The Kitchen Archives, with New Music, New York 1979 as the first release. This 2-disc set offers re-mastered recordings from the landmark New Music, New York: A Festival of Composers and their Music, held at the Kitchen9s 484 Broome Street space in SoHo from June 8-16, 1979. The festival, which set a standard for new and contemporary music, paved the way for New Music America, the annual event that emerged the following year in Minneapolis and ran in various cities until 1990. Now 25 years later, these recordings are an invaluable time-capsule, a privileged view/listen into a historic event, initially heard by only a few hundred people. Beyond their historic value they offer brilliant and exciting music by composers now considered masters of the genre, as well as remarkable performances by figures nearly forgotten. While many recordings from the festival could be restored, several gaps remain: concerts that were either not recorded or whose tapes vanished into the ether of the last 25 years. That said, we feel extremely fortunate to be able to release New Music, New York 1979 as our first CD in a series that promises to make available more lost treasures from The Kitchen Archives, uncovering the origins of new music today.

MUST HAVE for Elton fans!.......2007-06-06
The box says there are several bonus videos, but the DVD only has 1 (the one with Robert Downey Jr.) But the rest is missing! I noticed the box says "dolby digital 5.1" but the DVD in the boxset I bought also has the DTS mix (great sound BTW). Does this mean they eliminated the rest of the bonus videos in order to make room for the DTS mix? Anyone else got the same boxset than me?
