This C.D. like Volume I before it is a very high quality, wonderfully diverse album. The pair compliment eachother beautifully, and stand alone strong. I would recomend it to anyone who already loves Opera, and to any new innitiate. I bought Vol. I and Vol. II on a whim and have not been sorry. The piece by Wagner at the end is worth the purchase price alone for this one.

Overlaid with a New Aura ..?.......2005-10-24

I agree with the first reviewer, with some elaboration: These songs are by the original artists. If nothing else, you can hear it in the familiar voices of the singers. BUT, the vocals have all been overlaid somehow with a kind of echo that changes them. The instrumentation also is subject to this echo, I think. My guess is the songs were all re-mixed as well as remastered, and this effect was done on purpose, for some reason.

The weird thing is, for those who are young now and want an "oldies" compilation, this type of remixing actually UNIFIES these songs so they all sound much more like they belong together on the same CD. (Instead of the bane of most compilations, where people think "Ugh! why did they put this song in here with that song?") In THIS sence, what they did could be seen as an advantage.

But for those of us who were teens in the 70's and KNOW these songs, --Come on, K-tel !! (and every other compilation company that has done similar stuff) Don't you know that the real fans of classic tunes DON'T want you to mess with them?!

Just know what you're getting.

Only one of these songs is the original recording. The rest are all "new stereo recordings". Though faithfull to the original, they just don't sound right.

Really good collection of songs, there are Aussie hits on this CD as well that non-Aussies might find interesting...

I think this is an excellent set and cheap!!!!

Do not waste your money on this collection. It's absolutely AWFUL! All of the songs are by the original artists, but they are horrible renditions! I'm returning it!

I bought these two CD's a couple of years ago, and they still remain among my favorites. It contains songs that are well-known and are played often on the radio. It also introduces you to less well-known artists such as Lou Reed and Argent. I highly reccomend them!

Very Good Assortment of 70's music.......1999-12-17

This is a 5 cd collection. The selections are by the original artists and not some unknown group or cascade of impersonators. I believe the songs are the shorter single versions which played on the radio as opposed to the longer versions from the LPs. Thankfully, they don't appear to be the extremely abreviated selections I've heard on some of these "collection" cds where each song has been cut to the bone and lasts about a minute and a half. "Instant Replay", for example lasts over 5 minutes and "Best Disco in Town" plays for over 6 minutes. The sound quality is good to excellent depending on the song and your own personal expectations. The mix of songs cover a surprising range; including Mac Davis, Patrick Hernandez, Meatloaf, The Emotions, Dan Hartman, and Tom Jones. Disco is probably the best represented. Each cd had its high and low points, but this will depend on your taste. For me, I greatly enjoyed the first cd and felt the fifth was probably the weakest. At a little more than six bucks a cd, it's a good value.
