I am attempting to consolidate my CD collection of classical music by obtaining collections, especially of chamber music, and particularly piano trios. This collection of Beethoven's piano trios more than met my expections; it is wonderful music and bueatifully played.

I don't play violin, and I can't even read music, but as a classical music amateur I find this CD outstanding. Even an incompetent like myself can easily understand why Perlman is regarded as one of the greates violinists ever. This is a marvellous collection of pieces. The rendition of "Chanson Russe" by itself is, in my opinion, worth more than the price of the CD. If you listen to the audio samples on Amazon's pages and you like violin you will surely understand why I like this CD so much. I am grateful to People like Perlman, who make this world a better place to live in.

All I can say to this CD is it's the best I've ever heard. In this CD, Itzhak Perlman truly demonstrates his best performances of the past years. I have always been a great admirer of Perlman, but since I own this CD, it's all I've listened to for the past three months. I myself play the violin and Perlman has become an inspiration to me, almost a musical idol. For any of those violinists out there, especially young musicians, who don't feel any excitement about playing the violin, listen to this CD and I promise you, you will strive to being able to play like this man does. He is truly the best musician I've ever known.

The most consistently enticing disc in the Rock Instrumental Classics series, this is both a great party and driving record and a window on the rhythms that powered soul music in the '60s (and early '70s, in two cases). In addition to some obvious choices (the four Booker T. & the MG's tracks, the Mar-Keys' "Last Night"), it also offers some left-field picks, such as the varied approaches to Latin music offered by Ray Barretto, Mongo Santamaria, and El Chicano. The stock of virtuoso performances here is all but endless: the bass-and-drums breakdown on Cliff Nobles and Co.'s "The Horse," the glinting guitar solo on the Bar-Kays' "Soul Finger," Hugh Masekela's questing trumpet on "Grazing in the Grass." --Rickey Wright

This cd has all my favorite instrumentals from the 60's. The sound quality is good. There are also some songs I don't remember, but all the tracks are good to listen to. I will check out other cd's in this collection and would buy others. They were not remakes but original artists.

I love this cd. The songs in it such as "The Horse" by Cliff Nobles, are a nice addition to the cds I already have. Instrumentals are a nice get away from the regular kind of music. Instrumentals bring music happiness to people like me. They go along perfectly with the vocals. God bless you Amazon for having this cd in stock and thank you. You are my absolute favorite of all department stores when it comes to shopping. Thank you.

I am extremely happy with this CD. I recognized only half of the 18 tracks by their titles before ordering, but the ones I did recognize were good enough to sell me on the CD.

It turned out when I first played this CD that all of the songs that I had failed to recognize by title were very familiar tunes and very good ones. This was a very pleasant surprise.

This is a great CD! I remind everyone that I intend to save the "five star" rating for CDs that just absolutely blow me out of the water, so the four star that I gave this CD means that I really, really like it and heartily recommend it. I have just started buying and reviewing classic rock CDs, so I have not as yet given a five star rating to any CDs.

Go ahead and order this one!

This is a great collection of soul instrumentals. Every single track here made the Pop Top 40. There is not a single bad track here. The CD begins and ends with Booker T. & The M.G's, and rightly so, since they were the most dominant soul instrumental group of all time. In between, you get one great instrumental after another. Highly recommended.

Wow! A friend recommended this CD to me (as I am beginning to play), and what a treat this was. Terrific variety in style, and superb playing all around. Especially helpful were the extensive liner notes to the CD, listing each artist and going into their background as well as details about the songs. Really enjoyable reading. I just can't say enough about it if you are looking for a good sampling of harp songs. :)

Rhino's "Blues Masters" series is the best of its kind, and while this one disc obviously only scratches the surface of blues harmonica playing, it does feature a lot of good music.

Most longtime blues fans will own the lion's share of this material already, but "Harmonica Classics" also features several lesser-known songs like Jerry McCain's "Steady", Lazy Lester's superbly groovy "Sugar Coated Love", "Boogie Twist" by Snooky Pryor, and "Easy" by the greatest blues harmonica player of them all, the great Walter Horton (that's the song credited to "Jimmy and Walter").

Howlin' Wolf is here as well, Billy Boy Arnold is here, Little Walter Jacobs is here with his instrumental classic "Juke", and Jimmy Reed is here, doing the loping "Ends And Odds" in his lazy, minimalistic style. Other highlights include Junior Wells' tough "Messin' With The Kid" and Sonny Boy Williamson (II)'s "Help Me".

These songs don't necessarily rank among the artists' very best, since they were chosen primarily for the harp playing, and that may be seen as a little bit of a drawback. But that's not to say that these songs are generally below par, however, and this collection does focus on blues harmonica after all.
And there is some impressive instrumental prowess on display here, including the Fabulous Thunderbirds' lyrical "Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White", "Last Night" by George "Harmonica" Smith, and the one-armed John Wrencher's rendition "Take A Little Walk With Me".

As I said, this is not excactly the defintive word on blues harmonica, or on the artists represented here, but "Harmonica Classics" and its companion volume (excitingly titled "More Harmonica Classics") are still a fine purchase for casual and "mid-level" blues listeners.
Lots of great music here.

This CD features 65 Television theme songs from the late '40s to the early '60s. Most of the more famous shows from this era appeared on Volumes 1 and 2 of this series, so there are some pretty obscure shows on this one. Who remembers "Karen" or "The Everglades"? Of course, there are also some fondly remembered shows, like "Tennessee Tuxedo", "Make Room For Daddy" and "The Untouchables". But there isn't quite as much nostalgia value for me this time around, since many of the themes are from shows I never saw.

A few years ago when I was in a TV theme phase I got all the Television's Greatest Hits CD's and most of the collection is good but I was disappointed with Vol 4, probably because I have never heard the majority of these themes and I was bored with The CD, the only themes I have ever heard are Lassie, Make Room For Daddy, Father Knows Best, Ozzie and Harriet, Davy Crocket, Gunsmoke, The Fugitive, The Untouchables, and Candid Camera, the rest are TV shows that I have never seen syndicated reruns of so I don't know their themes. I guess a person should just stick with the Television's Greatest Hits CD's that have themes of TV shows that they actually grew up watching or saw on Nick at Nite or TVland.

Lots of fun, and I'm glad to have it, but can you really claim any artistic merit for the Roger Ramjet song?

Two other minor points: It's kind of silly to have The Wonderful World of Color on an album called Black and White Classics. Also, I was extremely disappointed in the Fugitive cut without the voiceover. Come on -- is your most vivid memory the music, or William Conrad's voice, " Dr. Richard Kimble, an innocent victim of blind justice..."?

Still, I'm glad I have it. Where else are you going to find Beany & Cecil, Captain Midnight, Soupy Sales, etc. A lot of old friends are here.

The words of Bob Hope's theme song say it best -- "Thanks for the memories."

I was looking for a recording of Londonderry Air performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra/Eugene Ormandandy. After listening to several sample clips on this CD, I ordered it. The entire CD is beautiful and relaxing. It's become one of my favorites.

This CD is worth it's weight in gold. The mix is outstanding. One of the few CD's that you'll enjoy playing straight through time and time again. The songs take us back to a more simple time. Some of the best songs ever written are here. Simple, infectious melodies that will never go out of style. This CD is worth twice it's price. Buy it, you won't be sorry.

First you have to like Bartok. Not everyone enjoys the 20th century extention of classical music. If you do like Bartok and want to hear his violin compositions - then buy this CD and hear a true master at work.
