As the follow-up to their unusually experimental Destroyer (nonetheless one of Kiss's best albums ever), Rock and Roll Over, released the same year, contains more conventional three-chord material. That's not a bad thing, since Kiss at their peak arguably did three-chord arena-rock better than anyone else. "Calling Dr. Love" was a hit single, as was the surprisingly bittersweet (for Kiss) "Hard Luck Woman." "I Want You" is an unnerving mix of tenderness and tension, while "Take Me" is understandably urgent. Although this was material that would become conventional over the years--thanks to legions of copycat bands--it still sounds good today, probably because whether they're being sleazy or sweet, Kiss sound like they mean it. -- Genevieve Williams --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great sound.......2007-06-26

Great in-your-face production job on this album. Peter's drumming never sounded heavier than on this one.

5 out of 5 stars One of their Best!.......2007-05-30

Hands down, one of their best records. How can you not like these ferocious riffs, pounding drums and Ace's fretwork? The songwriting was good here as well. "Mr. Speed" "I Want You" and "Makin' Love" are the best of any Paul songs in the 70s. "Dr. Love" "Ladies Room" and "Love'em and Leave'em" are Gene's gems from the disc, and you gotta love Peter's "Baby Driver" and "Hard Luck Woman" vocals. The only way this record could have been any better is if they had Ace sing a song. The sound goes back to the "Dressed to Kill" sound after the intricately produced "Destroyer" masterpiece. But it rocks all the harder because I think Kiss enjoyed working with Eddie Kramer...and it shows on this album.

5 out of 5 stars My First KISS album.......2007-02-26

I received this album when I was 3 years old in 1976, and to this day it is still one of my favorite albums. Sure, the lyrics may be kind of cheesy, but this is still one of the greatest rock bands of all time. If you are a true KISS fan, you will appreciate the evolution of the group from album to album.

5 out of 5 stars This album started it all For Me.........2006-12-30

My Mom bought this Record for me on My 12th birthday . And too this Day I listen to it still .. My 16 year old Daughtewr also listens to it !!! Kiss Rock and Roll Over & Over & Over.. for Ever

3 out of 5 stars Compare a Rolls Royce to a Yugo.......2006-11-22

This is the comparison I use for the old Kiss,pre-'77 to new Kiss. This cd was an entertainment in the absurdly funny and hillariously childish antics of poorly constructed songs. Ezrin left and too bad because the songs got overly simplistic. The lyrics dealt with nothing but female anatomy and left nothing for the imagination. I will admit this to be a very low point in Kisstory. Love Gun was somewhat better and Dynasty and Unmasked even better even though there was fighting amongst themselves and Criss was even a part of those recordings. The stage show and women took favoritism while good songs would have to wait.

Included was an array of fun things to complete the circus ,including stickers, a cartoon like look, an anti-rock theme and an empty feeling for the real fans of Kiss.
